I have been going here for metal shows for decades. Typical south side Irish bar with a decent stage and sound production. Beer and spirits selection is also decent. Fair amount of free parking as well. I hear the food is good but I've never eaten there myself. It does always look and smell good and they sell plenty of it, so I believe this is true. There is a cheap hotel next door of you need a place to spend the night. Would return, would recommend. read more

I went to JJ Kellys in Lansing Illinois with a friend and the Food was out standing? Ordered a Pork Chop Dinner with a extra Chop on the side. The chops were 1 inch thick Seasoned well. Very very surprised at how much I enjoyed this restaurant. Came here on a Friday night while passing through town with my parents. The place looked unassuming from the outside, but the parking lot was full. There was a full salad bar (almost all homemade salads, soups, and dressings). All of it was delicious, especially the soups. Cream of garlic and mushroom and butternut squash. Got the fish fry. The fries were underwhelming and the perch (though high quality fish) needed a more flavorful breading, but nonetheless quite good! My dad had a pasta dish that was very flavorful, but not obnoxiously spicy. The meal was accompanied by garlic bread, which was a nice change of pace. Seems to be frequented by plenty of locals, which is always a good sign! read more

They NEVER have toilet paper in the woman's can. I knew to bring a wad of napkins in with me because the previous time we went to see a band and eat there was no toilet paper either. I was going to spray the seat down before anything and this person comes into my stall. For a second I thought I was being robbed but then she was looking for toilet paper. There was none of course but the nerve of just walking into an occupied stall is just extremely rude and uncivilized. I wasn't going to share any napkins with her. Hell no. Not after that. I was trying to tell my boyfriend what happened. It was super loud and the waitress thought we were fighting and was asked to leave. Seriously? We paid and didn't stay for the other band. The incident would not have happened if they kept their bathrooms stocked with toilet paper. Oh the food was just ok. The chicken fingers were just ok. They only filled the ranch cups less than half way. And the fries needed to be cooked more. Just not a good place to be comfortable. JJ Kelley's is a local Bar/restaurant that's been in the community forever. While I can't say that I have frequented the raucous nightlife they are known to offer, I do respect and appreciate their commitment to the community. Whether it's sponsoring Little League teams, or hosting a fundraiser, they are a vital member of the Village. During COVID they have been offering takeout to try and stay afloat. I have been trying to support local businesses during all of this, so we have hade takeout multiple times. I must say, I have not had a bad bite yet. Everything from Prime Rib to Perch to sliders, wings, deep fried sides, nachos, all better than expected. A few issues as is to be expected with any takeout order - sometimes the steam ruins the crispiness. But a welcomed treat in these awful times. During non COVID days, they often have live music with a focus on rock/hard rock. But we'll update the review to include late night fun once everything is open at 100% again. I've been coming to this place for at least 3 years now and up until yesterday my experiences have always left some desired things , however because the wings was always great I ignored the obvious racism shown towards minorities. I served 21 years and Retired from the Navy and they have a wall full of pictures of past service members with not one minority on it.. the waitresss focus and serve their white customers with great care and prompt service. My waitress only had 4 blacks and she barely checked on us. We asked hot sauce 2, she forgot both times. Asking a 3rd time she sent someone else to bring it and he delivered it to the black couple next to us. Very sadd and racist here... all minorities need to think twice about spending their money in this establishment. read more

We went to this establishment on Tues., July 28. The special were Wings. We placed an order for Hot wings and Buffalo Hot Shrimp, let me say this.. They were phenomenal! We ordered the Calamari as an appetizer it too was excellent and I am very particular when it comes to Calamari. The staff was friendly and the service was great. I went with my EX-fiancé to hear Sin After Sin and the opening bands on 11/23/13. We arrived about 8:15pm and seated ourselves at the only table near the side stage door. As the evening progressed, uninvited individuals converged on our table. These individuals became quite intoxicated and after the last song by Sin they confronted me. I was accused of causing ludicrous disturbances! I was not drinking alcohol and had been nearly knocked off my stool numerous times during the evening by the uninvited, intoxicated I've learned the bully patrons are "regulars" and vaguely acquainted with my fiancé. I, however, do not know them personally or professionally. After Sin's last encore, they surrounded me and verbally threatened us. They were each well over the legal alcohol limit; this was obvious. Neither of us had been drinking alcohol. The drunk. unruly patrons threatened to "kick my a$$". I was called a bit¢h repeatedly. No employee from the venue immediately interceded and forced the drunken would-be assailants to leave. A man did stand behind the three and witness the continued assault. EVENTUALLY, he removed two of the inebriated assailants, however, he permitted one to continue threatening me. As an attorney and officer of the court I was alarmed by JJ Kelley's lack of concern for the safety and comfort of their patrons. I have multiple sclerosis and was unable to hastily escape the assault. I was fearful the drunken assailants would carry out their threats and harm me in the parking area. I understand that alcohol causes individuals to act out of character, however, JJ Kelley's has legal, moral and ethical responsibilities that were not performed efficiently. I would not recommend this venue to my friends, family, clients or business associates.I CERTAINLY would NEVER suggest bringing a child here! The website insists this is a family friendly restaurant/pub/bar. Don't be fooled! This is a dive bar with all the dirty restroom, stale beer smelly air, draughty interior and filthy floors you'd expect in a dive bar!! I can only imagine what the kitchen must be like. When you first walk in everyone turn to look & kept looking for a while (lol), I was standing at the bar the guy behind the bar totally ignored me. Finally, a person walked out the kitchen/back, I walked over to where she was & she was very friendly and took good care of me, even though I was only there to pick up food, that I had order. The wing dings were delicious, but some were very small. I also tried the fried chicken dinner it was bland which was a surprise because the wing dings was seasoned great. Upon leaving there was another waitress who I guess was serving the sitting area she was very friendly spoke & even said goodbye when I was leaving with a very nice tone. Overall, I can see why the reviews are what they are because I experienced most of them the short time I was there. I would patronize them again, it's a bar that serve food & when you walk into any establishment if you are by the door people are going to look to see who walking in especially if it's a neighborhood place & kind of watch you for a while, you almost always will have that person that's going to act like they don't see you to avoid work, and sometime food is a hit or miss. read more

Went there for a few drinks with my girlfriend & her friend, the bartender was young and friendly, the regulars are very friendly and let us play music while football game was on, you can tell the owners are very good to the community by the decor. The food was great!!!! I had the taco burger that came with soup & side, I chose pasta salad which was delicious but really small portion, burger was cooked perfectly and was DELICIOUS!!! This place is disgusting! The bathroom is disgusting! The bar is disgusting! The glasses for my drinks were disgusting! The bartender lacks customer service and doesn't wipe the bar down in between servings. I asked for an Apple Martini and it was disgusting. I exchanged it for a glass of Merlot (fool proof so I thought), only to be served Cabinet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, or a red blend. The fried avocados were disgusting. They never check on their patrons to refill water. We actually had to ask for water. The waitresses, bartender, and owner all sat in a corner conversing the entire time we were seated at the bar and not attentive to customers. Great bar, good food. Have hit this place for live music, fantasy drafts and they supported our softball team for a few years. Clean and usually a good mix of people. They have a big projection screen on the stage for big games. They even have a smaller private bar room for banquets and occasions. I come here for lunch on occasion if I'm in the area. It's a nice little bar and grill, food is average drinks are decently priced and they've some good specials. The bar is very military friendly and has definitely got lots of pictures and military swag on the wall. Tuesdays are Sloppy Joe's for $2 and they are pretty damn tasty. Lots of meat on this sandwich for sure. The burgers are pretty good but ,nothing special really. Just a good old fashioned burger that satisfies your hunger. Fries are good too - crispy and not too greasy. I've had the turkey sandwich there also, not bad but, it's just your standard sandwich. The Chili is not bad, little bland but it's nothing that a few drops of Louisiana Hot Sauce & some salt can't fix. I did not like the "Macaroni and Cheese" soup - basically it's Mac 'n Cheese with an abundance of cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was a bit gritty too - probably used flour as a thickener or powered cheese. The bartenders are always nice (at least during lunch time) and seem to be relaxed and calm behind the bar. Service is swift and they let you eat in peace by not constantly asking you if you want another beer or beverage. As soon as you raise an empty bottle or glass though... boom there they are, ready to give you a reload. All things considered and taken into account, I'm coming back. Not for some fantastic meal or super cheap drinks but, because the atmosphere is relaxed and the bartenders and staff is great. read more

I am super upset with JJ Kelleys right now! Their portions are absolutely nonsense! The taste has changed also... In a bad way. I used to get the Hot Chick all the time. It was huge, beautiful, fried and delicious. Now it's an appetizer that is grilled and bland. Not to mention they used to use slices of real tomatoes. Now, they use slices of cherry tomatoes. Do not expect to fill up on just one order. Btw, the chicken wings are garbage! Smaller than my pinky. Their homemade chips are bland and awful. Most of the people that work there are awesome, on the other hand. It is the only plus at this point. To add the cherry on top, their chicken noodle soup, which also was awesome, now tastes sour and awkward. I am uber disappointed in this place. I came here with my boyfriend when we were snowed in due to one of the worst snowstorms in decades and were forced to hole up at the Howard Johnson down the street during our cross-country drive. We came to this place on the hotel manager's recommendation and were so glad we did. Firstly, it is a casual bar that you can tell is frequented mostly by local regulars. Our bartender (Jeanie) was pretty awesome and had great service. Secondly but most importantly: THE FOOD. I can say, honest to god, that this was THE BEST pub food I've ever had in my entire life. The special of the night was a BBQ pulled pork sandwich and for THREE FREAKIN' DOLLARS you got a legit pork sandwich (the GOOD homemade BBQ pork) on a toasted bun, homemade potato chips, and an awesome side of from-scratch pasta salad. You cannot beat that food for $3. Also, pitchers of Miller and Coors Light were only $4 at the time, so you and a friend could get a great meal and some beers for under $20 - pretty awesome. That being said, with the great service, great food, and cheap beer, my boyfriend and I got a little trashed here and ended up ordering more food that did not disappoint (REAL fried chicken with chicken noodle soup for $9). If you're staying at one of the local hotels and don't feel like walking far because you're feeling lazy or scared of the area but want to chill out and enjoy a beer and watch some sports (they also have live bands weekly), this is a chill little place and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. read more

Awesome food, beef Sandwich and wings are my personal favs. Facility is family owned so they don't get frozen entrees and defrost them for you right off the truck, they home cook probably 90% of their own food and ingredients. The building itself is probably 40 to 50 years old. They keep up fairly well but have a pretty rowdy crowd on late Friday's and Saturdays, after 10 pm or so, they tend to tear it up a little. JJ KELLYS has a 30 year reputation for being one of the most open attitudes to the nw Indiana and southeast il music scene. They also provide excellent catering services at reasonable prices. TUESDAY WING SPECIAL!!!! Is simply a scam to get you to come here. I came here expecting to pay $10-12, $15 total with the 20% tip since we were ordering the special. First off you must know you absolutely have to buy two drinks to get the special, even if you only plan on only getting a measly 5 wings. The 4 beers me & my friend had ended up being $20 alone without our food and we honestly weren't planning on drinking so this not ruined the whole purpose of coming to get a good deal on a meal but made us drink when we really just wanted waters. I also must mention that their "will automatically include gratuity for partys of 3 of more" rule also includes a party of two. But what essentially made me upset is that I paid the same price I would at any other regular restaurant without a special but with a lot nastier food. So unless you plan on getting nothing but the special here(which is pretty nasty), order the two cheapest drinks on the menu & coming by yourself so you don't HAVE to pay a high tip, I would absolutely recommend coming going anywhere else but here.
