Definitely worth the 26min drive:) This place brings back all the "feels" from my childhood as I had a Schoops near my home growing up. The restaurant on the inside, still that old hamburger joint look from the 50's. And the smell, that hits you in the nose as soon as you open the door-DELICIOUSNESS! I ordered 2 Special E's: These are double cheese burgers with one piece of cheese. A double cheese: a double cheese burger with double cheese slices. 2 orders of Irish nachos(loaded cheese fries with bacon bite, fresh green onion, and ranch sauce on the side). An order of regular fries with a cheese cup. A large strawberry shake A large Coke no ice And a small Green River Shake (mine). My order was packed up nicely in a box (including the drinks). The transporting of the food and drinks home was secured by my trucks selt belt. I was determined to get the grub home with out issues. To my surprise, the food was still piping hot when we sat down to eat. The shakes were still shaking, and the fries we as yummy as I had remembered. Everything tasted great. The burgers were so huge, I couldn't take more than 3 bites. Can someone say "LEFTOVERS!!" Score! The only thing that wasn't amazing, was that my well anticipated "Green River Shake" didn't taste like Green River,nor did it look all that green. It was a nice shake, but it just tasted like vanilla. I am glad I took the drive to this location. The staff was kind, they listened to me ramble about working one summer at a Schoops near my home, and one nice employee gave me a quarter for the jukebox! So cool! The employee who took my order was very cheerful, and I didn't wait long for my food. It's great that delicious orange sherbet is served with a meal. Onion rings are the best! Potato soup was better than homemade. My food was so good that I want to return until I try everything on the menu. We ordered the Black Bullet party pack which comes with two pounds of brisket and two large sides. We went with fries and beans, and also added ribs, mac and cheese, and buns to the order. The brisket is still the star of the show. The spice rub on it is perfect, and it's so tender that it's unreal. The fries are exactly the kind of battered fries I like which was a pleasant surprise because I feel like not many places do them that way. The beans were okay... a little sweeter than I personally prefer, but they had huge chunks of pork in them that I definitely appreciated. We also added two slabs of ribs, and they fell right off the bone. I'm usually not a huge ribs person, but these were well cooked and flavorful. Mom loved them, and that's what really matters. We did have a few small issues with the order. We realized that our mac and cheese was unfortunately missing when we got home. They also ran out of pretzel buns midway through packing things up, so we ended up with a mix of pretzel and brioche buns instead. Honestly, we didn't mind that one too much because it gave us a chance to try both (I'd pick pretzel if I were you). When we picked up the order the place was absolutely packed, so it was hard to be upset over an honest mistake. They were clearly incredibly busy. I still don't really care for the sweeter sauce that tastes heavily like peppers to me, but their vinegar-based sauce (which I think is their original?) was much better than I remember. On more than one occasion we have been served the skin of the spick of gyro meat which, when new meat is placed on the stick to cut off, it is the really really tough outside and barely edible. Instead of the generous slices of meat, they cut the narrowest slices like strips of torn cloth. This is not the gyro meat i ate as a child. Next the pita bread was beyond stale; no doubt it is expired. It was extremely tough to chew. Most upsetting was the watery tzatziki sauce obviously given in that way to save money; the sauce is tasteless. Finally there was oil in the bottom of my container NEVER seen that before. So after returning the inedible meat for some meat that wasn't from the outside of the Spick, we attempted to eat this food and it made us sick. I had the worst indigestion. I don't know what was in that mystery tzatziki sauce, but it gave me a very bad upset stomach. My husband Ended up throwing out his food as did I. Unfortunately, after eating their on and off for the past 16 years that we've been married and living here, we will not be eating there any longer. I know that being a business owner is tough. I know that they have to be creative and fine ways to cut cost. However, they have to ask them sales will it ultimately cause them to lose business Because not only am I no longer eating there, I used to DoorDash from there when I had company, we won't be doing that any longer or referring people. Our health is the most important thing that we can take care of next to our children and of course, even more so our relationship with Christ. 3 Floyd's Brewing is well known in the Midwest, with their flagship American Pale Ale (Zombie Dust)…read moremaintaining a large following for beer enthusiasts, especially those that love hoppy beer. Their most popular beers (ZD and Gumballhead) were available in Wisconsin, so I've tried both when I lived there. The brewery began in 1996, and moved to its current location (Munster, IN) in 2000. They opened a brewpub in 2005, and this was the destination my wife and I were heading for, as we were seeing a relative that night but had arrived early. Unfortunately, I didn't get the memo, as the brewpub has been closed since 2020 (that's six years ago), which is now blindingly obvious as I read more information about the brewery on my computer while researching for this review. Luckily, the folks working there were exceedingly kind, appreciating that we had come a ways to visit. Their small retail store is open, and we were able to pick up some merch (mostly stickers), a pack of playing cards ($12) as well as a six pack (in bottles) of their Robert the Bruce Scotch Ale (I knew about this beer but never had a chance to try it...quite good, especially for $11 for a six pack). I had also picked up some Scotch Ale earlier in the trip (Warped Speed from Lake Louie Brewing) so this trip was becoming beneficial to add to my beer collection at home...now need to find Founders Dirty Bastard (which is sold in my area) as well to have 3 of the Scotch Ale variety that I've tried and enjoyed. It was clear to the employees that we talked to, that they like the brewpub to reopen but don't know of any plans to move forward. 3 Floyds is doing quite well, expanding their distribution business, so sounds like that's the focus. There were many stories I found about plans to double the size of the brewpub and open a biergarten adjacent...but they were from 2023. As of now, couldn't find any other stories explaining the lack of movement since then.
