I needed a new carpet for my bedroom and had waited more than 1 year to give my rescue dog a chance to be a good doggy and not cause me any tears with what might happen to a new carpet! Ken was very helpful in helping me pick a lovely wool carpet that fit my budget. Installation was perfect. Back to the dog: of course it wasn't 24 hours Charlie (dog) threw up on my new carpet. For over 17 years, I wanted to have the 100 year old hardwood floors in my house redone. It was only after an unfortunate accident, that I was in a situation where I had to have them done. BTW, Alamedda Hardwood Floors did a fantastic job. The floors are incredible and they take pride in their work! Needless to say, after waiting all this years and seeing the result, I wanted to have them protected. In fact, we want edan area rug 7 1/2 feet by 7 1/2 that was high quality, easy to maintain, and would match the decor of a bedroom. I went to Home Depot, Target, Home Good, and many other places - the quality, designs, and other carpeting places - sizes, quality, and customer service did not work for me. I did a Yelp search and found Ken Carpets in San Rafael, CA. Luke Swan was our sales rep - more like a trusted partner in helping us. To my surprise, they had several, high quality, remnant carpeting styles available at very, very reasonable prices. Moreover, they will cut these down to exactly the size you need, add a edges to create a polished look, and you can even purchase a backing so they will not slide on your floor. Luke was fantastic. No pushy, super helpful in helping with find something that matched our hardwood floors (you can actually place small pieces of the carpeting on similar floors so you can see how they look) as well as the quality - something that we need for durability and easy to clear. Luke was fantastic and better than best - we purchased something that was customized for us in size, with high quality, great look, fantastic durability, and at the right price! We just bought a house, and decided to update the patchy basement mess of carpet, linoleum, other carpet, other linoleum... into one good choice. I initially went to a big orange logo'd corporate place near the bay, but nothing about that process was much fun. My contractor on several other projects on this new-to-us house said to go to Ken's Carpets, and I'm SO glad we did. If you want to do business with someone who you can call, and the people answering the phone will recognize you and your job, and you're not just a number, do yourself a favor and go to Ken's Carpets. Instead of having a 1-888 number and a bunch of automated, on-hold, no idea what's going on frustrations, I got to meet Ken, and Anne, and they are delightful. Ken was able to come out and take measurements of my space right away, and was so flexible about it despite me being in the midst of mold-remediation. When the mold removal took longer than anticipated, Ken did a some heroic calendar juggling, and still kept my installation for the same week we'd aimed for, just starting a few days later. His crew has been professional, friendly, and worked so hard and fast. Marcello, Roberto - great guys, really conversational and gave me updates every day on how it was going. I LOVE the flooring, and they did a beautiful job of making the transition over my half concrete-slab to half joists & plywood basement flooring. It looks SO good. They really did detailed stuff. Not only was the woman who waited on completely clueless to what she was doing, she was incredibly rude. Their selection was awful (from what she showed me) and she left such a bad taste in my mouth that I had to aggressively talk myself down while driving away. Her attitude, not only will prevent them from getting my business, but I will go out of my way to share my experience with my friends in the design business and prevent future business with them as well. I went to Ken's Carpet looking to buy the Korloc premium vinyl planks based on my reviews. Our application was to replace flooring throughout an entire 3 bedroom, living room, and kitchen, about 1250 SQF in Berkeley. First off, his pricing was fair for a self install by my contractor. The problem was that my contractor subcontracted out with a floor man clearly not familiar with the product and there was a language barrier. The product requires a 1/4" gap wherever the floor makes contact with a wall or immovable objects like kitchen cabinets. Ken was very patient with me to work through solutions to compensate for an insufficient gap, deal with flooring under the appliances, and creatively problem solve with trim pieces to cover the inherent gaps between flooring and cabinets, sliding windows, and tile in the bathroom. Knowing what I now know, I should have had Ken install the floors in the first place and avoid being the interface between the contractor's floor man, the contractor and me. Ken knows his product and how to make things work. I would not hesitate to use Ken in future projects. His store also has really nice carpet products too that I would consider as well. read more

Before going into Kens carpets I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of choices, styles and different fabrics I could choose from. I left every other place just as confused as when I walked in which made it really difficult to decide what I wanted. Ken helped clear up all of my questions, explain to me all the different options in a way that was easy to understand. We were able to quickly narrow down what felt like thousands of options into just a couple. He was able to come out and measure the same day, bringing samples of the carpets we wanted to see. We were able to quickly decide and his team came out within 2 weeks to do the install. Everyone we dealt with for this transaction from Marissa, to Ken, to the install team was incredibly professional. Maybe it's because I have a small place with simple, cost-effectiveness needs. Maybe he is too busy all the time, as he complained twice when I stopped in to try to get new floors. Maybe it's heartburn from the food he didn't stop eating when I came in. Maybe he's forgetful, calling to inform me he needed to come measure when he already had, and then when I did come in to choose product he assigned me a fairly simple kind of shy "consultant" who lost my choices. I had to come in again, and hear again how great he is. Since he then had to take a long holiday vacation, I gave up on the project till February. He didn't check back to see if I was still interested until then; a woman called to see if I wanted to come in and pick out flooring? So I returned again,hoping for a fast, easy solution. I was definitely not interested in the flooring he strongly encouraged, letting me know they take very good care of him for selling so much of their rather pukey looking fake wood floor. Finally I chose simple cheap flooring and got the estimate to my landlord, after literally months of trying to get this done. Landlord picked out a couple of redundant charges in the estimate, sent it back to Ken. It was adjusted without apology, but still remained over $5,000 for a one-bedroom. I was bummed to get a NO from landlord. Telling a freind, she mentioned Empire Floors. That same day I got a measurement appointment; a fresh young lady with dozens of samples arrived the next day, measured confidently, wrote me an estimate right there for $3200 total, and assured me it could be done the next week. 4 days later I had beautiful flooring for far less investment and far better customer service. Maybe Ken's is a great choice for the more expansive, expensive-leaning homes of Marin, but for a simple job I'm much more satisfied with the company I went with. read more

When it came time to remodel a townhouse for my mother, we went there for a bid. I'm completely satisfied with the results: the price was good, the installation work was excellent (with a high-quality padding under the carpet), and they followed up to make sure we were happy. They have a very good selection of quality products, including many kinds of flooring and interior fixtures and cabinetry. They know the technical issues for different types of carpeting material, and can explain it clearly. The showroom is attractive, and has a variety of kinds of lighting, so you can see what different materials look like in various environments. More recently (2014) I had a small room that needed carpeting, and called to see if they had a remnant that would fit. Indeed they had a nice wool that was perfect, and are installing it with padding for about $5 per square foot. Note that they are a busy and popular shop, and currently need about three weeks' notice before they can schedule installation. Also note that Ken has a hilarious dry sense of humor, and if you are open to it, you might end up laughing out loud when you visit. They are a fine choice when it comes time to upgrade your floors. read more

We recently went to Ken's Carpets looking to purchase hardwood flooring for our living room and hallway. We were referred by a friend in Marina Bay who raved about the service. Ken himself waited on us, and managed to convince my wife that Kardean flooring would be a better choice for us. He then told us our friends actually had Kardean flooring, not hardwood! We had no idea, as it looks and feels exactly like wood. We were sold. The installation was done about 2 weeks after we placed our order. Ken's installers, who work for his company full time as employees, came right on time and proceeded to assist us in moving all the furniture, doing the installation in the time period promised (2 days for carpet removal, sub-floor install, Kardean install, and new baseboards). They are skilled craftsmen with years of experience installing this product. They are also friendly and conscientious of our belongings, taking great care to protect everything, and to keep the work area clean, both while they worked, and overnight. The nature of the product allowed us to be able to both walk on it and replace the furniture immediately. Needless to say we were thrilled by every aspect of this floor remodel, from the initial contact thru the purchase, installation and satisfaction with the final product. I shopped at Ken's Carpets when I first moved to California over 6 years ago. My experience was very successful and the carpet in several rooms plus two stairways looks as good today as it did then. And that is with 2 cats and a dog and now multiple grandchildren. I since gave had area rugs bound and am also happy with them. We needed a stairwell carpet replacement and my husband said, "We are only going to Ken's Carpets". I wondered why he is so attached to this place when we've never had a strong need to carpeting. "It's the ads. I like the ads". Ok, whatever, let's go see Ken from Ken's Carpets. Well, let me tell you. Ken delivers. He explained the difference between the different fibers in synthetic, natural and blended carpet. Showed us a few styles and colors and we hammered out a deal, just like that. We got carpet from Ken about 8 years ago. The carpet we picked (against his advice) did not last as long as we hoped it would (just as he told us), but everything else about that experience was great. Ken just put in new faux hardwood floors and they look great. Not only was installation smooth and done by obviously super competent guys, but they were friendly and polite and even cleaned up and vacuumed before they left.
