I had a laminate floor installed in 2020. They did not offer a moisture barrier although I have a cement floor and live I. a damp area. the laminate floor is now buckling on both the first floor and the second floor. it was misinstalled as they did not leave a 1/4 gap along the wall causing it to buckle. They claim it was moisture where an inspector says it was misinstalled. it is throughout the house. I would not recommend Empire flooring as they do not stand behind their workmanship and the material was very cheap. Once I got moisture readings for upstairs and down, they would not back down. It should have not happened upstairs. read more

I've had a great experience here. We used this company to replace the carpets in our townhome before we sold it and they were very professional and stayed within budget and timeline. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to enjoy the rugs we put in! I'm now going back again to install laminate in my current house. I love their no pressure approach. I had someone come out who took all the safety precautions to make me feel comfortable about letting that representative come into my house. Quick measurements were taken and then I set up a follow up appointment that was respectful to my work schedule. I was shown all my options and allowed to take floor samples home to see how they look in my home environment. I appreciated being able to see how the light fell on my sample tiles as well as visualize how each style of laminate would work with my color scheme. After I returned the tiles, I set up delivery and installation dates. Pretty simple, which I appreciated. The materials came pretty quickly and the installation followed a few days later. The workers that came to install the laminate were also respectful and efficient. By the time they left after a week's time, I had beautiful, durable floors my home. I'm very thankful to give my house the small renovation. read more

In May I hired empire carpet to lay carpet and tile in my mom's kitchen den and bathroom. On the installation date a man showed up at her door who could not speak English very well and no identification stating he was coming to lay her floor luckily I was there. I explained to him he had to have proper ID to enter her home. I called the office and explained that the gentleman they sent out had a language barrier and I needed to be able to communicate. The next day two gentleman came out and only one could speak English. I let them enter and they laid the carpet and was done. The one gentleman ask me for a thousand dollars cash and I explained it was financed. But he still demanded money. So he called the office and cleared it up. But at the time they were their the the unexperienced towel layers came in. Only one could speak English and the other two not but because it was such a large area to be covered I wanted them in and out one room was completed fine. They covered the Asbestos, tile the kitchen and the den when I went into my office they were scooping up the green Asbestos, tile. If you want a price, that's not based on square footage or actual labor cost call empire floors, the price is not based on anything other the what you would pay, price was double the other three estimates that i received, and by the time the estimater left its almost half what he quoted. But they were still the highest of the other three estimates, I want to business with any company that uses gimmicks to sell products. read more

We used Empire Floors 7 or 8 yrs. ago for our laminate floors and they did a fantastic job. We used them again this year (2021) for carpeting our upstairs and again they did a good job on the installation. The 3 star rating is because Jeanette, the manager, never followed up to see if everything was satisfactory, but was very quick to charge our credit card the balance of the project within 30 minutes of the installers leaving. And the installers didn't put the sliding closet doors back on one of the closets saying it didn't fit. When we called Jeanette she said they don't do any trimming and we would have to get a contractor. Her customer service skills are greatly lacking. read more

Empire Floors in Novato is amazing. I worked with Jeannette who is certainly an expert and made the entire process seamless - as well as providing a bid which was less than any of the competition. Jeanette worked with me for the timeline, the process, telling me exactly what to expect - and that is what happened. She finally had the workers put down 4 stains so that I could choose one in my home and how it would look on the underlying floor. To upgrade our old carpet to hardwood, Empire Floors in Novato was recommended by our designer as a business that has the "most satisfied" customers, and we now are among them. Our salesperson was Janette and she made the process easy. She visited our house several times and answered our questions, and provided an estimate that was lower than the competition. We decided on 3" natural red oak and arranged with her to install the floor while we were out of town on vacation, which worked out very well. We resolved the minor issues that came up on the phone, and we came home to a sparkling new hardwood floor. We were particularly relieved that every aspect that we worried about (e.g. corners, joinings with other rooms) was handled to our satisfaction, to Janette's credit. The house was dust-free and clean, and they even attached the felt pads to the furniture legs. After a terrible tile installation experience previously by the Floor Store we were very cautious as to whom to select for this job, but Janette and Novato Empire have restored our faith. I have to warn the next person that is considering using Jack from Empire Floors. I am a designer and asked him to bid on a job. We discussed it by phone and email and set up the appointment with the large commercial client. Jack was a no show to the meeting. I called to confirm the day of, called at the end of the day wondering what happened to him, and called the next day. He never pick up the phone or returned my calls or email. If he couldn't make it or didn't want the job, all he had to do was let me know. This lack of professionalism is worth posting on the internet. read more

Several years ago, Empire Floors installed hardwood floors in our entry, kitchen and family room. At that time, they used a finish called Bona Traffic. It was wonderful. It held up extremely well for 11 years with only a few minor scratches. A few months ago, we had Empire Floors add hardwood to our living room, dining room and re-finish our entry, kitchen and family room. They used a totally different product called Pall-X-96. It is nothing compared to the Bona Traffic finish. It has only been down for 8 months and the scratches are horrible. If you are considering Empire Floors, be sure to inquire about the finish they are using. I have been told that they have been using that finish for sometime but no one is having the issues I am having. I find that hard to believe as I have furniture protection and am very careful about what is on my floor. I spoke to a gentleman at Pallmann about the product that was used on our floor. He advised that it is not the most durable product and that they have another product that is much more durable and scratch resistant. Unfortunately, we were not given that option or we would have chose to go that route. Jeanette is wonderful; however, I have tried to get them to come back for the past 7 months to fix some defects and they have yet to come. read more

Terrible customer service. I mean, entirely unacceptable/disappointing. Contacted Jeanette on a Thursday, told her that we wanted to replace the carpet in our master bedroom as soon as possible. She said she was available on Tuesday - great, we set a time. My wife and I moved all sorts of work obligations around to both be home on Tuesday morning. The time for our visit comes. Jeanette's not there. I text to ask about her ETA and she lets me know that she "had us down for next Tuesday." I told her that was super frustrating since we both stayed home from work and asked if she had availability for a few others times that week. She said she'd get back to me. Never did (surprise). Then, Monday night of the NEXT week rolls around and I think there might actually be a chance she's still planning to come out on Tuesday morning (since this is what she had us down for originally). So I call and leave a voicemail, asking her to call me back and let me know if she's coming on Tuesday morning. No response (surprise). Then, I text on Tuesday morning, asking if she's coming that morning (because it's still totally unclear). No response (surprise). If you don't want our business, just say so. But this kind of customer service is just unacceptable and gets you this kind of Yelp review (surprise). read more

We just had new hardwood floors installed in three rooms and the existing hardwood floors refinished in two rooms in our residence. Jeannette did the estimate and contract and Jorge and Manuel did the work. We could not be happier. All three people were very professional and friendly. The work was performed as scheduled. I knew that I wanted to work with Jeanette at the Novato location of Empire floors when I first met her. It took me a year to find the laminate and carpet that I wanted but it was worth the wait. I can't believe that Jeanette is not the owner because the service she provides could not be more professional, if the business were her own. The installers were professional and did an excellent job. When the flooring was taking longer than expected, the installer offered to return on Sunday to complete the job which he did. It could not have been possible to get better service and the flooring is gorgeous. Pretty hard to find a business that is run so well. read more

I used Empire Floors a few years ago and was very pleased with their work and with Jeanette's efficiency and customer service. I went back to them a few weeks ago for a small job to re-carpet a bedroom. The work itself was good but the customer service was quite disappointing. I had to go into the shop several times to get samples and to get the job scheduled. I was finally given a date, but the crew did not show up, and I was not told they would not be coming because the carpet had not arrived yet. In the meantime I had completely emptied the bedroom so it could not be used. They came the next day instead. This created great home confusion for me for the whole week. When I asked for a discount because of all the trouble, it was denied. In the end this customer experience was probably worse than hiring a large outfit which would have also been cheaper!! The work was good, and I know Jeanette was not feeling well, but it was a relatively expensive job with great inconvenience, and I am not sure that I would hire this business again. read more

I hired Jack and Empire Floors 13 years ago on another home I owned and hired them again to replace the carpeting in our home with engineered wood flooring and carpeting on our stairs. The wood flooring crew worked very hard and did a great job. There were a few minor issues and we approached Jack with them and they were handled begrudgingly which left a bad taste. The carpet was not installed correctly and had poor seams. Again, begrudgingly they replaced it and it was reinstalled in a tucked fashion that looked way better but exposed my freshly painted stair trim so I had to have our painter come back to repaint. Again they begrudgingly credited me for that after my insistence that I didn't incorrectly install the carpet and it was on them. I wavered between 2 and 3 stars but since they ultimately made it right they get 3 but they had an opportunity for a 5 star review but the customer service was lacking and after all it's all about the service and customer experience isn't it? read more
