    Salad Bar

I'm always searching for that hidden gem -- the kind of place you only hear about through the grapevine. Ken's Steak & Ribs in Amber, OK is exactly that place. From Oklahoma City it's less than an hour drive, and before long you know you've left city life behind. As the old saying goes, never judge a book by its cover -- and the same applies here. From the outside the building is pretty modest, but once you step inside you immediately get that cozy, homey feeling. Another unique feature: the restaurant is only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 4:30-9:00 PM, and there are no menus. Your server simply tells you the options: * 8 oz or 12 oz Sirloin * Prime Rib * Rib Dinner * Chicken * Smoked Sausage * Salad Bar * Baked Potato, Sweet Potato, or Fries In my opinion, this is a classic approach -- keep the menu simple so the food and experience can shine. Based on reviews I had read on Facebook and Yelp, the advice was to arrive early or expect a line. Since this was our 20th anniversary dinner, we arrived about 30 minutes before opening and waited comfortably in the parking lot. Good move -- we were seated right when the doors opened at 4:30. The atmosphere inside is dimly lit and quaint, giving it a relaxed small-town steakhouse vibe. Our server Virginia greeted us quickly, took our drink order, and we both ordered the 12 oz sirloin with baked potatoes. The salad bar is simple but well done. One detail I loved: refrigerated salad plates -- in my opinion that's the only proper way to serve a side salad. The offerings included iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onions, shredded carrots, cucumbers, chives, croutons, and dressings like blue cheese, French/Catalina, and ranch. They also offer fried okra and pinto beans, which adds a nice Oklahoma touch. Instead of rolls, each diner receives a barbecue rib to start the meal -- now that's a unique and delicious idea. Our steaks arrived shortly after. I ordered mine medium rare, my wife went with medium rare plus, and both were excellent. The first bite had that unmistakable mesquite flavor, and the seasoning was spot on. Honestly, we probably didn't need the 12 oz steaks -- neither of us finished them. Could I have? Sure. But why be miserable? The meal was outstanding and exactly what we were hoping for on a special night. The only small disappointment was that there are no dessert options, but that's hardly a deal breaker. Final thoughts: Ken's Steak & Ribs is absolutely worth the trip. It takes a little planning because of their limited hours, but if you're looking for a classic Oklahoma steakhouse experience, this place delivers. We'll definitely be back.

What a find!! We were driving back to Oklahoma City from the watermelon festival and decided to stop here for dinner. We waited 20-30 minutes on a Saturday night. The free appetizer rib was delicious. I got sirloin steak for my entrée, but I should've gotten more ribs because they were that good. The salad bar was nice. The fried okra was always piping hot and crispy. Service was really nice and food came out pretty fast once we were seated.

The moment I pulled into the parking lot, I knew I had found what I wanted all along. A place that was more worried about food, service and atmosphere than all of the modern chic facades. I was not disappointed. Inside I was greeted warmly, seated promptly even though they were packed, and before I blinked complimentary ribs for the table?! Instead of having a long confusing menu handed to me, I was given a list of 5-6 options by the server. I love it! The meals all come with a modest but delicious salad bar that also has some well made baked beans and fried okra?! My steak and baked potato came out perfect and with plenty of butter & sour cream to make it my own. This place is amazing! It's totally worth the out of the way drive if you're on 44 or in OKC. Although be warned you WILL leave full!

Yes, just as good as it was 20 years ago when I came great atmosphere flawless service food was top-notch. It won't be 20 years again. I don't know why I waited so long.

Great food. Service is great but you may have to wait to get in. Very traditional look. Hasn't changed in the 30 years I've been going there.

This was absolutely the best steak I've ever had in my life! I got the 12oz. ribeye & salad bar. It was prepared perfectly as I requested: medium rare and it was the juiciest ever. I did not take a picture because I was too busy being blown away by the tenderness & flavor. Went with a few friends who knew to get there before 5pm. I've heard there a line if you don't!

Still worth the drive from OKC. Great steaks, and my favorite salad bar, with brown beans, fried okra, and a cheese block.

I believe we paid $28.00 for the large steak dinner, which included potato, salad bar and soft drink. It was delicious! Best bargain around for a great steak.

Husband said that for a BBQ place to make it in rural Oklahoma, it has to be good. And he was right. The outside is very welcoming, cute bench and foliage around a nice patio in front. The inside is sparkling clean and simple. They do a good carry out business but we ate in. I deeply regret not bringing some carryout back with us, it was that good. Brisket and pork were juicy, full of good flavor, and delicious, portions were plentiful. Husband also ordered a hot link which was perfectly spiced. Our entrees came with a fresh piece of soft white bread which was perfect with the hot BBQ sauce. Our meals came with regular BBQ sauce but when I requested hot sauce, he brought some spicy BBQ out and it was fantastic. They also threw some sliced fresh onion on our meats. The guy who waited on us was one of the owners and he told us the sides were made from scratch so we had a few: Cole slaw (some of my favorite of all time), potato salad (in Oklahoma, they mash potato salad like mashed potatoes, it was mustardy, mashed, & tasty), pea salad (amazing!), Mac & cheese (yum!), and a baked potato with butter and some sort of house seasoning on it (fresh and delicious). We ate every single bite and loved it! Prices were extremely reasonable, we got a meat with 2 sides and bread for only $9.95 and it was a ton of food. This is a family owned place and you can tell they take a ton of well deserved pride in their food. Carnegie is a good 45 minutes from home but you bet we will be back! If you are in the area, STOP HERE!

Worth the wait to get their Burnt Ends, Pork Ribs, and Apple Pie BBQ Baked Beans!!…read more Butcher BBQ Stand has limited hours (only open Fri/Sat/Sun till 3pm or until sell out!) and when it's open, there is a line of people that want to get food! I ventured out here from Oklahoma City after a couple people recommended me to try this establishment, and I am glad I did! I arrived here at about 10:15am on a Saturday and after it opened at 11am, I was able to order by around 11:45am. While waiting, I enjoyed looking at the interior and was excited for the food! Upon ordering, the person at the desk mentioned to try the pork ribs, and I am glad I did! I had a hefty lunch that included getting Burnt Ends, Pork Ribs, Brisket, Mac & Cheese, and Apple Pie BBQ Baked Beans! The main highlights are below: Burnt Ends - Oh boy this had a lot of flavor and was very moist! This was definitely a delight to have. Pork Ribs - The staff was correct in ensuring I tried to Pork Rib. The pork fell right off the bone and was soooooo flavorful! I honestly could have had only pork ribs for my meal and feel 100% satisfied! Apple Pie BBQ Baked Beans - I was VERY surprised at this side. It had the right amount of sweet flavor to it and the taste was very unique. I sometimes do not finish a side of baked beans at the BBQ spot, but at this one, I ate it all! One comment I have for the brisket is that it is not as moist and more on the lean side, which is not as I typically like it, but the staff did indicate to me ahead of time that it is the style they typically prepare it, where people that are fans of more fat and moistness get the burnt ends. I did want to at least try it though since I traveled all the way there! The food that was recommended to me was really memorable and I enjoyed my time at Butcher BBQ Stand!
