Ordered a medium rare steak and it was juicy and tender. It was also a large steak. Meal came with a house salad, baked potato, bread and a roll. I was also going to order Lamb Fries as an appetizer, but the waitress was able to let me try one piece on the house - great service! It would have been way too much food for one person. After being referred to Cattleman's by a neighbor & also a few locals once we arrived in town we figured it was a can't miss especially considering it's the longest continuously operating Steakhouse in all of Oklahoma ( opened in 1910 ) so naturally we gave it a try. We were seated in what was basically an old looking Diner in which we weren't really expecting but it added some charm. We settled on the Blue Ribbon Ribeye & the Cowboy Prime Rib. Both were served in short order & although we wouldn't say they were the best we've ever had they were terrific nonetheless. Our server did a decent job & the prices were quite fair ( 2 Entrees, 3 Cocktails & a Dessert for $ 150.69 ) Next time we find ourselves in Oklahoma city we will certainly stop back in for another great meal, possibly even for breakfast since they open at 8am. read more

When I travel for work, I make a point of seeking out local institutions rather than chains. On a Wednesday evening in June, after wrapping up some work in Norman, I drove up to Oklahoma City's Stockyards City to look around. While standing in a western wear store across the street, I called a friend who had visited Oklahoma a few months earlier. He told me that when he was there, he crossed the street to Cattlemen's and had a pretty good steak. That was all the convincing I needed. I knew Cattlemen's reputation before I walked in. If you're familiar with the friendly rivalry between Fort Worth and Oklahoma City, you've probably heard people argue over whose Stockyards are better. I figured if there was one place that could make Oklahoma City's case, it would be Cattlemen's. I took a seat at the counter rather than waiting for a table. Dining alone and in a bit of a hurry, I assumed it would be the quickest way to get a quality meal before heading back south. The atmosphere felt less like a modern steakhouse and more like an old-school diner crossed with a steakhouse. Honestly, I liked that part. It felt authentic. Unfortunately, the experience never quite matched the reputation. The restaurant was busy for a Wednesday night, and while my waitress was friendly and professional throughout the meal, service felt stretched thin. It took longer than expected to place my order, longer than expected to receive my food, and there was a noticeable sense that the restaurant was operating behind pace. Some employees appeared to be working nonstop while others seemed considerably less occupied. At one point, someone who appeared to be a manager was helping run food. I started with a salad and the house creamy Parmesan dressing. Good enough. What surprised me were the "croutons." Nobody explained them, so I expected actual croutons. Instead, they arrived as thick slices of toasted bread that were buttery, garlicky, crunchy, and absolutely delicious. The portion was generous and, looking back, I probably should have been dipping them into the dressing the entire time. For the main course, I ordered the 16-ounce ribeye special. The waitress first suggested upgrading the beef and then mentioned the larger special. I passed on the beef upgrade but opted for the larger cut because thicker steaks generally hold medium-rare better than thinner ones. To Cattlemen's credit, they nailed the temperature. The steak arrived exactly medium-rare. The problem was everything else. For a steakhouse with this kind of reputation, I expected a memorable steak. Instead, it arrived warm rather than hot, with very little crust, char, seasoning, butter, or flavor. It wasn't bad. It simply wasn't remarkable. Salt and pepper helped, but not enough to elevate it. The fries were equally forgettable and arrived without seasoning. What surprised me most was that the bread and croutons were more memorable than the steak. My bill was around $50 before tip, including nothing more than water to drink. At that price point, I expected to leave impressed. Instead, I left disappointed. Not angry. Not offended. Just disappointed. The strongest emotion I felt walking back to my truck was regret. Regret that I spent the time. Regret that I spent the money. Regret that I chose Cattlemen's over one of several other options I had considered. That's a tough thing to write because I wanted to like this place. I enjoy supporting local institutions. I appreciate history. I appreciate restaurants that have become part of a city's identity. But if I find myself back in Oklahoma City tomorrow and someone offers me a choice between Cattlemen's and a chain steakhouse like Texas Roadhouse, I'm choosing Texas Roadhouse without hesitation. Better value. Better service. Better consistency. Better overall experience. Maybe I caught Cattlemen's on an off night. Based on its reputation, I'd almost like to believe that's the case. But all I can review is the meal I had, and for me, the most memorable part of dinner at one of Oklahoma City's most famous steakhouses was the bread. read more

Cannot believe the volume of people that will come through there at random times to eat. Just up from the stockyards (you can literally smell the cow*** outside), it's in a really cool real working area that is essential to Oklahoma City. No reservations accepted, but our wait wasn't too bad. Inside it smelled like the Sizzler and Rustler chain steak restaurants of yore on the east coast and looked suspiciously exactly as they did decades ago..hmm. Carpeting inside a restaurant makes me cringe. Decent menu with good prices. The filet was cooked perfectly (if you're a steakhouse and you can't do rare, I will fail you right there and they passed perfectly) but I've never had to work to cut my slices of a filet, nor have I had gristle running through a filet so...yeah. Same deal with the chicken fried steak. Meat was mediocre and the crust was almost soggy and the portion was small honestly. Ok, but not where we'd go back to for a real steak experience ever. Salad was a bagged mix with bottled dressing. Baked potato was decent. Many staff available to refill iced teas. We went to experience Cattlemen's, not to have a Peter Luger steak dinner. So it did not disappoint honestly, and we are glad we hit up this OKC classic on our visit. Would def recommend if you are looking for a legit taste of the OKC you've heard of from the past. Went to Cattlemen's Steakhouse for the first time for dinner (Saturday evening) and had a good experience. I was a little bummed that they were out of the yeast rolls and served us Texas Toast instead. The salad is sooo delicious and they have the best tasting salad dressing I've ever eaten. I ordered the small filet cooked medium with a baked potato, steamed veggies, and macaroni and cheese. My husband ordered the same steak with fries. The meat was absolutely delicious, melt in your mouth good. Service was great as well, and ambiance was fun! Located in Oklahoma City's Stockyard's District, this classic steakhouse has pretty warm vibes albeit an outdated place but comfortable. The greeters are well organized in getting guests seated. It closes at 10pm and we arrived late at 9:20pm and had no problem getting seated, served and was not rushed. On a Thursday night (3/12/26) it was busy at 9:20pm but not a zoo. Service is charming and friendly though they might forget your request but will take care of you if you need to remind them a second time. Food wise, it's good. The meats are decent; the yeast roll was nice and soft; but the iceberg salad was pretty lousy. Come on greens need to be green and veggies need to be cooked and prepared with as much love as everything else. The bar is excellent and if you order a shot of well vodka, they are generous here. In the Stockyards, this place has been around for 100+ years. I can almost smell the cattle being driven to the yards. Every type of steak imaginable. We shared the prime ribeye. 14oz and $55. Since we were in OKC, we wanted to try their steak to compare. One steakhouse stood out with its long history (since 1910) and vintage rustic decor. Upon entry , we were shown to our booth. For a Monday night, the place was unexpectedly busy which was a good sign. We started with the charcoal broiled shrimp as a starter. The shrimps were big and delicious. The rice and cocktail sauce complemented the dish well. For our mains, we ordered the Presidential T-Bone steak. The one Pres. Bush Sr. used to order when he visits together with a loaded baked potato and side salad. The steak was delicious... meat was tender and cooked medium rare just the way I ordered it. When brought out to you, they ask you to cut it in front of them to make sure you're happy with how it was cooked. Salad came with a heavy dollop of house ranch. I went with the ribeye for my Blue Ribbon Special, paired with breakfast options like eggs any style (I chose scrambled), and a side of hash browns (though home fries or sliced tomatoes are also on offer, I think--maybe more, but I was too focused on my favorites!). For bread, I opted for those heavenly homemade biscuits with sausage and peppery gravy, and let me tell you, they were the highlight; buttery, flaky, and pure comfort. I always order my steak medium-rare, and historically, Cattlemen's nails it. Today, though, the kitchen hit a rough patch. My first ribeye arrived unevenly cooked--well-done on one side and nowhere near medium-rare on the other. The second attempt came out undercooked, still cold in the center, which broke my heart a bit. After sending it back, they finally got it right with a perfect medium-rare, but the wait felt long while I savored my flawless hash browns and eggs. Had a great meal at this very casual restaurant. The inside on the long bar side, reminds me of the local diner in my hometown, only with some seriously good steaks. It's very, very casual ambience. Wait staff are friendly. The house salad dressing is very thick like mayo, but it's good with garlic and cheddar and paprika. The croutons make it, even if they look like Melba toast. The drinks were tasty, however I have to say my Milky Way Martini was a very short pour--it was about half full. If the glass had been properly full, I would have been impressed with the drink because the flavor was amazing. The steaks were cooked TO PERFECTION. I eat my steak rare. I want a cool red center with a warm outside. I always eat half and take the very center home to eat another day. This was perfect! Nice and red, yet the char grilled marks on the outside were warm. It was tender and delicious. I have to say the star of the show, although the meat was fantastic, was the dinner roll! OMG where has that been all my life? Seriously save room for the rolls! They also have a "unique" special called "lamb fries" which are not fries at all and more like Rocky Mountain Oysters in that they are deep fried lamb testicles. Expectations were high coming in, as this restaurant is highly recommended by hotels downtown. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. My wife ordered Filet Mignon medium, it was slightly undercooked so she changed her order to medium well, still came back red and was very tough to cut into. The opposite you would expect for filet. To be honest my original plan for this stop on my road trip was Ty's Texas Style BBQ in Amarillo but thanks to a navigation mistake I missed it completely and even Cadillac Ranch slipped through my fingers. Its also where the whole restaurant began. Won in a Poker game rolling a hard 6 which is two 3s. It has become a legend. Its rated number 5 or 6 at all times in the TOP 50 Steak Houses in America. This is an old fashioned steakhouse with a good variety of steaks and other menu items. I was alone, but seated at a table for two. Lots of real wood and bronze art surrounded my table. The server was Angelina. She brought me water and took an order for a 22 ounce bottle of their exclusive Double Deuce beer. It was an unfiltered wheat beer, nothing special, but decent. I ordered the ribeye as I think it's the most flavorful cut and 12 ounces was enough for me. I ate every speck. It came with a salad and I chose Italian dressing. It was poured a little heavy. I had steamed veggies on the side. They were bland. I also ordered the fried okra as an appetizer. It was a lot of okra, especially for $5. Nicely done. I ordered my steak medium rare. It came more medium than rare. I was given the opportunity to have it redone, but didn't. It was juicy as heck and very flavorfully seasoned. There was also a roll that I didn't touch and "croutons". I tried soaking up the juices with a crouton, but it added nothing to the meal. No room for dessert. I'd have walked the neighborhood a little after dinner, but we were under a tornado watch. This place was recommended by locals saying it was the "Oklahoma thing to do". The restaurant is huge and good for big groups. The fried okra was crispy and the actual okra still had a little crunch to it too instead of it being soggy. The dinner steak comes with a steak, baked potato, and dinner roll. I got medium rare and it was cooked fine, but the cut was stringy and tough. My coworkers got the chicken fried steak. It did not look too appetizing with the gravy drowning the steak, and it was very tough and overly soggy. This was a bucket list item for me. I can't believe I was staying next to Carttlemen's and had an opportunity to eat here. The history is just amazing. You can just feel it. The meat was the best I've ever had. Period. Service outstanding and fast. read more
