Went here for some Diwali shopping & the customer service was so bad. They were very rude & short -- they immediately asked whether we were there to look or shop. How is one to shop if we don't look first? They never want to open saris and show them. They are really pushy as well. They got upset with me because I did not want to purchase a chain set (all the necklaces were missing rhinestones). I understand Diwali is probably busy season & may cause some burn out amongst the staff but they should always greet their customers and provide at least decent customer service at a minimum. My boyfriend and I visited a family-owned shop in Kent a few times to purchase traditional outfits for a wedding in India. Our first visit was on March 9, 2024, where we were warmly welcomed by Sahil - the son. Despite the busy Ramadan and Eid season, we found a wide variety of traditional wear. As a plus-sized individual, my options were somewhat limited, but I was still presented with numerous sarees and kurtas to choose from. After three hours of deciding, we ordered three men's kurtas and a saree, totaling nearly $500, benefiting from a 15% discount for buying four pieces. We took home one kurta immediately since it required no alterations, and we were told the rest would be ready by April 7th. Our subsequent visits, however, were disappointing. On March 16, I returned with a friend and my boyfriend, who needed his green kurta pants hemmed - took less than 30 min. While waiting, I mentioned my excitement about seeing my blouse but received no response from the staff. My friend bought three sarees for $552, but the overall service was lacking. Petticoat is $45 stitched and $10 unstitched. On April 7th, I called to confirm our order's readiness and was told by the owner that it was best to come on Monday April 8th, although he assured me the order was ready. Due to our tight schedule, I insisted on picking it up on Sunday. We ended the call and I asked my boyfriend to call back for confirmation of the pick up. The owner then informed my boyfriend over the phone that the shop did not have the kurtas and firmly suggested he might have taken them home, which was not possible as we had left them for alterations. We sent pictures of the kurtas to the owner for verification. I am pictured in these with a blue saree draped across my body. But it was the only picture that showed my boyfriend's blue kurta selection. When I arrived at the shop, I was met with worried faces and was informed that the two kurtas were missing. They offered a replacement blue kurta, which would take a week to alter, but we didn't have the time. The gray kurta was also missing. Despite the shop's no-refund policy, Sahil refunded us for the missing kurtas. I was then handed a blue saree perfectly wrapped with my name on it. They tried to convince me that I had chosen blue, showing CCTV footage of Sahil following me around the store carrying blue and written notes, confirmation of the picture my boyfriend had sent the shop owner of both of us in blue, but I was certain about the green saree. After showing text messages to Sahil confirming my order, he reluctantly refunded the saree as well. This experience soured what initially seemed like a pleasant journey. I was particularly disappointed as shopping for plus-sized traditional wear is challenging, and I had hoped for a seamless experience. Kent Selection offers great pieces for various occasions, but our order was not prioritized during their busy season. The owner here is a nasty guy. He was outright rude to me ( Indian) and my fiance ( American). Wouldnt even let us try an outfit, it was a $400+ sherwani. He said he doesnt want the clothes to smell by others trying it. Ironically, the whole store had a bad smell, they were eating food inside the store when we arrived. And the clothes selection was blah. Old dusty stuff that was fashionable 25 years ago in India. No way this establishment has these many legitimate good reviews. Has to be fake. Lots of mixed reviews here. After reading them all, I can understand where some of the negative reviews come from. This isn't a place where English is commonly spoken, and while I was there, on a fairly busy Saturday, my wife and I were the only white couple in the store. That said, we didn't feel unwelcome at any point, moreso just that English isn't the primary language of the owners. Nothing wrong with that - we're there to shop for Indian clothes, not English clothes! What I believe is the husband/wife co-owner duo were helpful. While my wife knew ahead of time what she wanted (I've always worn suits to my Indian friends' weddings, but she has worn Indian garments before), I knew very little. The husband listened to what I needed, and while I was a bit picky, they worked with me and figured everything out in the end! I didn't feel rushed, or disrespected, or anything like that I see in other comments. Just be patient if they're busy, and understanding that this isn't like shopping in a mall department store. Heck, I was even offered tea for my wait - seems like a better experience to me than lots of other shopping experiences I've had! read more

They are dishonest, will overcharge and will not do what you ask them to and then lie about it. Not recommended for someone new to this store. They may be good towards their existing customers but they ripped me off. I went to get my banarasi silk saree blouse stitched earlier this year and they charged $75 for that, added the cheapest lining with cheapest piping on neck they could get, considering it was silk saree I'd expect them to use better materials if charging that much. I know fabrics and stuff very well just made a huge mistake to rely on them to do their job. Moreover they kept half of the border from the blouse and only added border to sleeves and told me it was not enough to add to back so instead they added to sleeves. I had made it very clear that add the border to the back of the blouse and if there's more then add it to sleeves. Mind that, I myself know how to sew so I knew what was possible. I just didn't have enough time to make it myself or find other stores. They take payment in advance of stitching, so there wasn't anything I could do. First time visiting. Very friendly staff . The store had this ability of making me feel like I had stepped into a store right in India. Sights, sounds and smells were wonderful. A strong incense was burning, Indian music was playing and my eyes were bombarded with beautiful clothing in a rainbow of colors. I was looking for a Sarii and they seemed to be reasonably priced. The bench you sat on was very small but the padding was comfortable. The woman who helped me allowed me to inspect the garments and didn't make me feel rushed. She also brought me a petty coat that was my size. I have no idea how she sized me up so fast but the amazingness of it didn't set in until I tried on my new clothes at home. This shop also sells clothing for men. You can find garlands, jewelry, shoes, incense and Hindi inspired statues. Pretty cool shop that took me out of my element, yet made me feel welcome. Unfortunately there is no return policy with or with out a receipt- so make sure you know what you are getting before you leave. read more

After I clearly explained what I liked and did not like, the main lady was very aloof and acted as if I should just purchase whatever she pushed at me. She did not give me options, and just grabbed random suits from my size bracket without much of a regard for what I was looking for. On top of this, she would only communicate in Hindi with my boyfriend, which felt very demeaning. Yes, my boyfriend is Indian and I am not, but I am the customer! It took forever to find something that would even remotely work, and it would have gone a lot faster if there had been direct communication with me. Most of the suits were overpriced and not of very good quality. Yes, this is the only shop in the area, but I would caution others before shopping there. When paying on my own I didn't know the deal was $130.00 said for me to my older sister so I paid while she wasn't near and owner charged me $159.65 for a non brand gown that had good quality fabric and when I didn't question the price of $130.00 to $159.65 I found out about deal after leaving store but what's shocking is I paid $200.00 cash and didn't get my cash back. Than I stood there waiting and he said "your done that the right amount" . I asked to get receipt he seems he didn't want give but did anyhow. I later heard that if I give him good reviews he give discount or $10 back so I did a good review in store got nothing and today 7/6/21 after getting my alternator gown in hand I am posting the truth on Yelp. Be extremely careful if u step foot in this store or better yet go get Indian outfit in Canada in Toronto where it's a lot of Indian store are with very good selection of store and outfit better otherwise any Indian store better than here. In December, I had a couple of saris with unstitched blouses for which I desperately needed a blouse within the next week for a wedding. The folks working got me fitted with a couple of readymade blouse options, helped me snag a couple of petticoats, and hemmed both saris. I think I was in and out in about 20 minutes and much relieved when I left--super helpful! I would have liked to give 0 stars if that was an option. The people that work at this store have no idea how to treat customers with respect. All they care about is how much money they can get from you because they are genuinely greedy. I went in like I always do with my mom and tried to buy something for a lot of weddings we have to go to. Instead of showing us what they had, the guy asked us what our price point is. He doesn't want to show us anything that is $100 or more because he thinks we can't afford that price. Now people tell me one thing, if this doesn't remind you of some sort of caste system I don't know what else will. As an American Indian customer I deserve to be respected and given the appropriate customer service, that is what will make me happy and keep me coming back. But when someone asks me for a price point instead of showing me what they have so I can decide what I want to pay as a customer that's not good customer service. Then if I'm telling my own mother that I don't like a certain piece of clothing they have, they have to butt in and say that I'm a difficult customer. Seriously people how would feel? These people are rude and greedy and only care about money not pleasing people at all.
