Keoghs Cafe was one of my favorite lunch places in Dublin. The food was so fresh and the service was on point. Their restaurant is pretty small so it felt really crowded but it's definitely worth it. We all ordered sandwiches ...two ham & cheese, one chicken and the last one steak. The steak was open faced on garlic toasted bread. Onion Rings sat on top of the perfectly prepared steak. It was an amazing sandwich and I highly recommend it. I also highly recommend the ham and cheese sandwich. It came on the freshest bread that was so flavorful and wonderfully toasted. The ham and cheese was balanced so that one flavor did not overwhelm the next. Their was a side salad that was very crisp and lightly topped with an oil & vinegar dressing. Of course the French fries were perfect. They seem to be perfect everywhere in Ireland. For dessert we ordered a cream pastry and a fruit scone. The pastry was scrumptious with a fresh cream filled center and the scone had a delicate fruit taste that was amazing. read more

There were four "workers" behind the register chit-chatting to themselves and seemingly not doing anything, while 30+ people were waiting in line to be served. Waited in line for over 20 minutes before being refused service due to capacity issues. The people before me were served. Myself and everyone after me were not told that they were at capacity until we reached the register one by one, group by group. They easily could have advised the line of people waiting that they were at capacity. Overall, the front staff seemed lazy and very much gave off "greedy-we don't care about you" vibes. Our taxi driver recommended Keoghs Cafe to my husband and I, so we figured we'd try it out. This was a very different dining experience than I am accustomed to, so the first time we came here we were a bit confused. Basically this is how it works: - There's usually a line out the door of people waiting to place their order, either for sit-down service or to-go. - Figure out what you want to order while you're on this line and place your order once you get to the register. - You will not be able to order anything additional once you're seated at your table, unless you go back to the register and order it there, so again, figure out your entire order while you're on the line. - You will be given a wooden plank on a stand with a number engraved on it and that is how your server will identify your order while you're seated at a table. The problem was that unbeknownst to us, we were given a different number on the wooden plank than was on the order ticket/receipt. After an hour of waiting and asking a few different people on the wait staff if they could please check on our order, the mistake was finally realized. Our order ticket was #13 while our wooden plank was #21. Once we got our order, we were satisfied and the food was great. We wanted to give this place another chance being that our taxi driver raved about it, so we visited again the next day. This day, things went much smoother for us. Our food was out in about 20 min or so. However, we were still missing several items in our order that were never given to us. Additionally, I overheard a patron talking to the person at the register saying that he had waited an hour and a half for his order to come out and now he had to leave to go to work. He asked if he could get a refund and the person at the register was remorseful and issued him the refund. However, I think this speaks to the inconsistencies with service here. We also noticed the wait staff often looking confused and walking in circles with food trying to find where a table number was seated. While this place is worth a try, I think it's important to note that they haven't quite figured out a working system. read more

Wife and I were told of Keoghs Cafe from one of the nicest gentlemen in the Tourist Office Dublin. Got there and this place had many options for pastries, traditional breakfast, coffees and espresso. Earliest bakery in Dublin. Not sure why all the bakeries don't open until 7:30/8 outside this one which opens at 6:30. This review only focuses on their take out bakery items and coffee. Service was good. I did have to ask a bunch of questions as there were no signs detailing what were items. Had 2 muffins (mixed berry and apple cinnamon) both which were nothing special and akin to grocery store quality. They had a braided chocolate straw and an almond croissant with chocolate drizzle which were both decent. Americano and caramel latte were good. Overall this place works for this early morning hour foodwise and would do their coffee again - but overall I'd probably hit up somewhere else next time. read more

Found this place as it is one of the only breakfast places open before 8:00am and I was exploring the city during a short layover. Didn't read reviews prior to coming but happy with the choice. Very cozy dining area. They had a steady stream of customers during my breakfast there. Ordered the full breakfast. Surprised with how much food came with it, all very delicious. Drink was included, I ordered tea and it was a teapot instead of just a cup of tea. Loved that, enough to last through the entire breakfast. On my way out I stopped to order another tea to go, was prepared to pay but they said not to worry since I had ordered the breakfast and already had a pot of tea. This is open at 6am so it's great. The front staff was a bit serious when we walked in. Did not say good morning so I'm not sure if this is a cultural thing or of he's not a morning person. We had to ask for instructions in terms of where we order as no one guides you. Keoghs is a quaint cubby-hole café tucked away just off Dame Street. It's a popular spot at most times of the day for tea and a cake or a bite to eat. The seating is very limited so you might find it hard to get a table, especially at lunchtime. I find that the staff can be a bit stressed, not that I blame them given the pace at which they have to dish out the coffees and meet the demands of a fairly packed menu. Despite the noise of the street seeping in and the crowds rushing by, the atmosphere is cosy and it's a nice comfortable spot. read more

I visit Keoghs on a regular basis. Its a cute, cosy little space but can get crowded with lots of tables packed into quite a small space. The raspberry scones are to die for! They are literally the best in Dublin. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. I always look at, but never try, their baked potatoes that come with salad - they're huge and look so tasty. Its always busy here- they opened another outlet backing onto this one. The coffee is great and they do lovely homemade muffins and scones. Catherine who is one of the owners is always looking after everyone making sure everyone gets served quickly. I work around the corner and I would say I pop in at least twice a week in the mornings. I've loved and lost a lot of cafes since I first came to Dublin nine years ago - some closed down, and some had renovations that both sucked the life out of them and pushed the prices up. Not so Keogh's - this place has remained consistently good (and consistently packed) since I first stopped by. I keep coming back mainly for the scones and the pear & vanilla muffins, but the quiches and steak sandwich are also really good. The main drawback of Keogh's is that it is so small - there seems to be a constant queue at the counter, so if you're sitting with a coffee and a book you might feel under serious pressure to drink up and get out! However, it does have longer opening hours than many other Dublin cafes, so it is possible to find a quiet moment. And even if you only swing by to pick up one of those pear & vanilla muffins, I think you'll be glad you did! read more

In search for a dessert, and this place only being around the corner we had to give it a shot. I opted for a piece of carrotcake (for a fiver) - it was just okay. The cake itself was kind of dry and the icing strangely sour and/ or cheesy? I couldn't put my finger on it but it just wasn't quite right, and I have had far better. While sitting there and looking around me, I started re-decorating the café inside my head... It's a lovely spot, but they need to get rid of those hideous plastic tables and screaming paintings. They could make really something nice out of it, change the décor please, as it just looks kind of cheap, sad and lacking atmosphere at the moment! Lots to choose from but I went with an Americano and an apple and walnut scone. I asked them to swap the butter with flora (bit of a shame they don't ask preference!) The service seemed a little slow - in that I was left standing waiting to order while one member made coffee with her back to me and another could see me but kept on with clearing dishes away. We came on a Saturday morning and it wasn't that full so it's not like they were under pressure. Was a little disappointed by the size of the jam that came with it so I didn't bother using it. Stopped in for early lunch/brunch today. Order at till, and grab a seat; they bring your food to you. This is not an appropriate place to bring your boatloads of luggage or a big pram! Seating is tight, as is most Euorpean cafes. As for the food: very good! Scones are large with big juicy pieces of fruit. Pastries look tempting. I walk in, wet, weary, not quite ready for a day at work, but present nonetheless.. That was often how I arrived in Keogh's café almost every morning for over two years and every morning I was greeted with my white coffee, without my even having to ask. If only the bus driver could've known my destination or fare without me having to talk my morning would have been perfect. I am not a morning person. However, I love Keogh's. I love their filter coffee, with hot milk. I have it on good authority that their lattes and americanos are also good. I do also love their scones, but I usually pretend to myself that they're for display purposes only, or else I would turn into one. When I do go at the weekend or in the evenings I will allow myself a scone, which are what Keogh's is famous for and rightly so. The selection of a dozen or so, are all good. Raspberry is the most popular, there's also strawberry, mixed berry, raisin, plain, brown, brown raisin? something with almond? I can't remember them all. There's also a good selection of muffins, cakes and later on quiche, baked potatoes, wraps, salads, etc. As well as the menu of hot food on the wall. On my last trip the healthy breakfast, which is a massive bowl of porridge (which could have done with being hotter) and two slices of toast (pay extra for jam). Should've stuck with the scones. Queue moves fast, bit squished inside, for their coffee and scones, always worth it. Also, I've never noticed the service to be anything but friendly. They're not super happy 'have a nice day' friendly, just regular friendly. read more

Not bad place per-se, I mean there's nothing that you would immediately say "no" to.... which is why I ended up sitting in for lunch the other day. but... and there's a few of them.... 1. staff are competent but have all the passion of a cheese sandwich 2. the tables and chairs are crammed in and the customers as a result... not enjoyable 3. crockery was not as clean as I would have liked... now, maybe the dishwasher was having a bad day, I totally understand that can happen in all... I concur with the other reviews: don't expect service with a smile. I think it's really dependent on how busy the place is. The place can get cramped very quickly. I imagine it's a popular tourist spot (it was recommended in my mother's Japanese tourist guide). Yes, the silverware can be a bit, ahem, "cloudy" but you can just get another. Try to stop by on a lazy afternoon. However, the food is excellent. I've had their cappuccino and filtered coffee. They were divine; strong but smooth. You can't have coffee without sweets (or is it cigarettes), so naturally I ate their fruit tarts and cakes. Both were moist and not too sweet. Great. They were served with a dollop of cream that was fluffy and rich. I wouldn't mind swimming in a lake of this stuff and drowning myself in it. A sweet way to die. You can also eat a more substantial meal there. I highly recommend their seafood soup. It was full of different seafood critters (really, if you like seafood, critters are yummy). Served with a side of bread and topped with finely chopped parsley, it was delicious. If I recall correctly, it was a rather rainy day and having a warm, creamy seafood soup just hit the spot. Very busy cafe near grafton street. They have the most delicious muffins and scones. The scones are HUGE! Nearly everyday they sell out if their raspberry scones-that's just how good they are. They have a great breakfast and lunch menu. I've only have breakfast here. It's quite small but I believe people must go just to try their muffins!! Yum yum yum!!!
