Update: The owner did respond to my emails and calls. Apparently, it was a system error. I'm glad the issue was resolved. I did have to call and email multiple times to have the issue resolved, but it was resolved. Hopefully others have a more positive experience with this company than we did: They came to our home in May 2024 for AC "tune up" for the season. I was told that the system was in great order by the tech and supervisor with him. They charged me for the service: $169. That very same day the motor on our condenser failed. The part was under warranty, luckily; although they tried to charge me for the part, until I reminded the billing department I looked up the warranty myself. They did charge for the labor (169 again)-- despite the motor failure occurring the day they tuned up the system. November of 2024, we realized the Honeywell control board for our heating system had failed. Our system was about five years old at that point. Schulz techs replaced that part and charged us 455 for the service, which we paid shortly after receiving the bill. We paid using their online payment system on 11/17/2024 and payment processed 11/18/24. Eight months after they replaced the control board and we paid for the service, they sent another invoice for that same part from 11/2024 for 296 dollars. The original bill was for parts and labor. We found a far better company to use. We will not use Schulz again. Luckily my husband has his credit card statement and invoice to show we paid previously. Maybe just an error, but it isn't the first issue with this company. read more

I have used them for almost 10 years for my apartment building with generally good results, but their latest behavior is just disgusting. Their employee apparently quoted me too low a price, for a service I would not want at a higher price. After it was done (badly) they tried to collect 3x the quoted price, and the owner actually accused me of lying about the quote. I don't need to deal with people who treat their good customers so badly. read more

Had my furnace cleaned. A couple of days later on a cold morning, I had no heat. I was not happy because it was working fine prior to the cleaning. Called their "emergency" number and got a recording. Apparently, this number is not monitored since I had to call several times. Finally, a man answered and said the technician would call me right back. After waiting a half hour with no call-back, I called them again and this time a rude woman answered and said I didn't wait long enough. Great customer service, right? I won't be a return customer. read more

It's been a year since the new air conditioner system was installed. Working great! KB Schultz is responsive and always prompt. They just completed the first year complimentary service call, and everything is working well. I love that they did not try to upsell me on product and services I did not need. I highly recommend Kermit B Schulz & Sons for A/C installation. In May 2022, KBS installed a new A/C unit, replacing an old central air system. Initially, I obtained six quotes to replace the system. Four of the six businesses tried to upsell me. KBS provided a thorough and honest evaluation. Their quote was detailed, payment options straightforward, and pricing affordable. KBS showed up on time and completed the job as specified. They even left the job site neater than it was originally. I could hear the men talking as they worked in the attic, and the pride in their work was pleasant to hear. The new A/C works great; quieter and more efficient than the old unit. I would hire KBS again and plan to call them for any future maintenance. read more

Saved the day! We had a terrible experience with another HVAC company. We wound up calling KBS to correct their work. Scott came over, was very polite and responsive. He never bad mouthed the other company either. He even wound up saving us time and money by being able to use the parts that were installed incorrectly the first time. The previous company told us they ordered the wrong parts and we'd have to wait for the new ones to come in. Overall, very happy with KBS. We're going to call them again for another job and we absolutely recommend them!! read more

The first year it wasn't used in master bedroom. As landlord I felt it was incumbent on me to have units tested before the hot season. I paid $328. for inspection and they assured me all was well. When heat came and tenant complained it was not working in upstairs bedroom so they had to sleep downstai She claimed it needed a part. According to her the part was resent a few times but always the wrong part. I finally hired a different company who fixed it in one day by correcting a faulty installation. I got the name A and J 978 590 7620. from other unhappy former customer of Schulz and they fixed it in one day. When I wrote to Kevin Betty answered and said I would not get any money for reimbursement despite the fact I only wanted the money for their incorrect preseason visit and A and J. Horrendous on multiple levels. My wife has mold & dust mite allergies and we have a humid house (...New England...) so we finally decided on central air for humidity and filtering - for health, not convenience. Chip is imposing, presumptuous, pushy (reminds me of Trump). Anyway he sold us on an overpriced over-engineered system (he has the right approach for helth-conscious know-nothings), installed it improperly (see below), and they don't know how to maintain it. They pushed a 2-zone system (upstairs/downstairs) but then said "heat rises" when we complained about problems. After we got the working thermostat (a year later) we found the only way it works is to always set both zones the same! Oops that was a wasted extra $10k that they certainly knew about (unless completely incompetent, a possibility) and decided to fleece us for it. We spent the whole first year complaining about heat settings not working upstairs, and they spent the year telling us how the furnace computer is smarter than we are. After a year we happened to get a service guy with a clue, who saw in 5 minutes "Your upstairs thermostat is no good" and replaced it. (After a year of discomfort and wasted cooling and heating $! Of course we complained about that but no response.) We switched companies after that - it seems Schulz has no interest or expertise in supporting the $y$tem$ that they $ell. After 6 years we discovered it appears the 2nd floor feed also feeds one 1st floor register that is only about 10 feet from the blower in the cellar. So ALMOST ALL the upstairs air BLOWS OUT THERE, freezing our feet and leaving the upstairs sweltering. Thanks for nothing, Schulz. read more

Update 9/9/2014: I got a nice call from them today explaining the bill had been coded incorrectly by a new tech so they're sending me a refund check for $138. That's enough to change my opinion of the price from "outrageous" to "fair." The quality and speed of work were good all along so correcting the price changed the whole experience into a good one. Original review 7/11/2014, one star: Outrageous markup on parts. Charged me $600 to replace a motor I could buy online for $100. read more

I highly recommend the Schulz company. It's a family business that I've been doing business with for over 30 years. They installed the original HVAC system in our home when it was built and eventually a replacement, updated high efficiency system. I have complete confidence in them including Chip Schulz who helped me design the replacement system and his sister Betty who handles the scheduling and logistics for the company. They have also assembled a good team of skilled, customer oriented service technicians. read more

I just had a horrible experience with Kermit B. Schulz (Air conditioning). I called to schedule a routine yearly maintenance. We moved into this house last July, when I had called to renew the previous owners' service contract, and had a routine yearly maintenance service done at the same time. When I called to schedule the yearly maintenance, the person on the phone informed me that the last routine service in July 2013, that I had scheduled right after we had moved in, was not part of a service contract-- and we don't have a service contract at the moment . We paid $248.15 for that routine service, plus a repair one month later for $273.00. So here's the ridiculous part: She said a yearly service contract costs $218 -- ie. $30 LESS than the one time charge of the service maintenance!. And the contract covers not only the yearly maintenance but also 15% off any service repairs! I told her that I had initiated calling last year right after moving in to this house, to renew the previous owner's service with them and went out of my way to give them our business! She kept repeating that this isn't in their computer etc etc. I pointed out the absurdity of charging more for a one time service that would have been covered by by a service contract. She agreed that this was the way it is, and literally told me on the phone that "tons" of their customers just schedule yearly maintenance without wanting to have a contract--even though it would cost them less and get more service! Anyway, at that point I asked to speak to someone else and she put me on the phone with the "owner", Bob, who was even more rude and aggressive. He told me they sent out a service contract renewal application in the mail in May 2013, but since we didn't respond, we don't have a contract. I pointed out to him that we didn't own this house in May of 2013!! And he then "blamed" the previous owners for not renewing. Again, I told him that is why I called them to renew in July 2013, the month we moved into this house, and they came and did the routine service. He became even more aggressive and rude-- if you can believe that. I give a rating of zero stars. I also just learned from my neighbors that the price for the "routine maintenance" that they had initially charged me was way overpriced. read more

I have used KBS twice for my home, recommended them to two friends who used them and saw their extensive work at replacing my church's heating system. In all categories they were excellent, thorough, and offered several levels of choice in their systems and proposed work. There are many choices and a lot of technology in today's HVAC market and KBS has been a reliable and trustworthy guide for me. I want to say thank you to this company who came to our rescue during this excruciating heat wave. We called a lot of companies around and no one was able to help. But Schulz & Sons send Rob right away. He came to our house at 10 pm on Friday night and gave us a diagnosis: the units' motor died. And the next day he came back and replaced it. It was our daughter's birthday that day and we were supposed to have 20 people over. If it wasn't for Rob, she wouldn't be able to have a party. I would highly recommend this company and Rob especially! read more

We needed a new heat pump about 4 years ago and Kermit B. Schulz was recommended to us by a neighbor. The heat pump we bought has used less energy and saved us on average of about $100 per month in electricity costs. Their installation was relatively quick and done so thoroughly. (We had other folks bid on the job and they did not inspect the copper tubing as carefully as Schulz did.) We have had our heat pump serviced twice a year and the technicians who call on us are prompt, courteous and thorough. Whenever I call to make an appointment, Betty already knows who I am and it is like I have known them all for years. We have not had any problems in four years, so I don't know how they would be in an emergency -- which is why I restricted my rating to only 4 stars. But maybe not having any problems is proof enough. read more
