Some of their actions (like not turning the gas back on after servicing the boiler) left me feeling that they were not on the level.

After paying for a repair estimate, the technician told me the best solution for my issue was to keep up with routine maintenance. On that basis, I was sold a Comfort360 support plan at $40/month, which states in the contract: "Provider will provide you with priority service in scheduling your maintenance and emergency repair appointments over non-Comfort 360 customers." Nevertheless, Nicholson informed me that the AC maintenance appointment I'd scheduled in April would remain in August and couldn't be pulled in by even a single day. Unless every appointment booked through August is for a Comfort360 customer, they are clearly not giving Comfort360 customers priority. You can verify this yourself by scheduling maintenance on their website -- whether you indicate you're a member or not, you're given the same service dates. If you're going to sell a premium service plan, you ought to carve out dedicated appointment slots for members rather than sharing a common pool between members and non-members. Repair: I've used Nicholson for both plumbing and HVAC repairs and have always found the technicians to be honest and fair when describing my options. This stands in contrast to some providers that try to sell products and services the customer doesn't need.

UPDATE: A few hours after writing this we LOST ALL HEAT DURING A BLIZZARD. No power interruptions,…read moreit is THE SYSTEM NOT WORKING YET AGAIN. Called only to be told we'd get NO help or support for two days. Our entire house is only around 55 degrees now and we can't safely leave. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I am so unbelievably upset. We called Friday asking for help and now here we are, heatless with two kids home during a blizzard. ----------------------------------- I waited a long time to write this review because we gave SumZero many opportunities to correct ongoing issues that have existed since day one of installation (a few years back). Unfortunately, we continue to have persistent problems with both heating and cooling. We have two young kids and at this point it is unacceptable these issues haven't been resolved. In the summer, our back room with vaulted ceilings is consistently 5+ degrees warmer than the rest of the house. In the winter, that same room is always about 5 degrees colder. The main living areas also had issues for the first few years, struggling to maintain temperature in the summer and leaving the house humid and unable to hold the thermostat setting some days. After extensive back-and-forth, SumZero ultimately replaced the entire outdoor unit, stating we must have received a "lemon." That replacement was installed this past summer, yet the temperature imbalance in our back living room remains unchanged this winter. Separately, we were provided a mini-split for our partial basement living room. That unit is unreliable and often does not work at night. The settings are correct, we have tried power cycling and resetting the breaker, and it still works only intermittently. It has been set to 68°F for days, yet the room is currently 56°F with no warm air blowing, despite the unit being on. My husband and I have contacted SumZero countless times over multiple seasons and years. Even after replacing major equipment, we still do not have a system that can adequately heat and cool our home as promised. The heat pump system installed through MassSave has never performed adequately in the years since installation. I understand that some older heat pumps can struggle in extreme conditions, but high-efficiency systems (like one we should have received via MassSave rebate with SumZero) should be able to handle New England winters and hot, humid summers., from my research. Ours cannot do either consistently. At this point, we are exhausted from having to address these issues every few months. While the customer service representatives and technicians are polite, no one has been able to properly fix the system. I strongly recommend going with another company if you want to avoid a long-term headache. Photos show mini split remote temp set to 68 but room thermostat shows 56, this is a common occurrence. Other photo shows main house ecobee (new thermostat for heat pump unit) set to 70 (has been set to this for months) but it's only at 65 in reality and continues to go down. The back room with vaulted ceilings thermostat currently reads 59 even though it should be at 70.

Great company! Honest people and fair prices…read more If you're anything like me, you hate shoddy work, and in the home remodeling industry, there's a lot of that. I would rather pay a premium to ensure it is done right and the quality is there. SumZero does that and more. We called, and within a day, they sent one of their experts, Raphael G., to quote us for ductless mini-splits to outfit our home. He was very thorough, offering different options that would work for our living room and bedrooms, which are boiling and humid during the summertime. He made the process extremely easy for us to understand and was willing to work directly with our condo association to accommodate their requests. We're still waiting to get them approved by our condo association, as there is a lot of work involved in obtaining approval. However, so far, the experience has been nothing but easy and painless. I'm looking forward to having the mini-splits installed.

The appliance company left us with an actively leaking water line and a broken discharge line into our sink. I called Rodenhiser the next morning at 7:30 and was greeted by a great lady. Rodenhiser had someone at our house within 3 hrs. They explained the issues and cost, we agreed, and they fixed everything. All set by 1:00 in the afternoon. They sent three different people three different times including the service manager (who came on the last visit). Each time, they couldn't figure out what was wrong. The service manager just kept harping on the fact that the furnace was old. Unfortunately, it just seemed that none of them knew what they were doing, and there definitely wasn't any communication between them. Their ultimate diagnosis? The furnace is too old, it's too difficult to find parts for it, so the whole furnace needs to be replaced. That would run us about $15,000 to $20,000 We demanded a second opinion, and the service provider agreed We had a local master plumber come out, who's been in business for decades. He said the furnace is fine. He urged us not to replace it. He said he believed the furnace could easily last another 25 years. He said parts are easy to get for this kind of furnace (even though it is old), which contradicts what the Martel service manager said. And he said the furnace would need to be replaced only if it leaked water (which was not happening). The diagnosis? The gas valve needed to be replaced, and it was easy to find and easy to do. Go figure! To anyone reading, would you want these people working on your furnace? You decide! So Martel accomplished absolutely nothing and charged the service provider for 3 visits (which is likely going to get passed on to us in some way, since the service provider has limits on what it will cover). And then we have to go through the headache of paying the plumber and getting reimbursed from the service provider. Martel, if you had just done the job right from the start, not only would you have gotten paid, you would've gotten credit for a job well-done and you would've likely legitimately made even more money, instead of bringing all these unnecessary headaches on us, not to mention that it has taken about 6 weeks to resolve this, when it all could've been resolved in two days If I could give zero stars, I would.

After we paid the deposit, they notified us that the project would be delayed for one month due to COVID supply issues. I grudgingly accepted this as a consequence of the "interesting times" we live in, until our furnace completely blew out a few weeks before Christmas. I called the other company to come up with some sort of temporary solution. They unapologetically offered nothing. I called Obie and was quickly notified of three important things: 1) they offered Daikin furnaces because of their quality, the best warranty in the business (exceeding Trane), and no supply issues, 2) We would be prioritized as an emergency and would be serviced within days, and 3) the cost would be 30% less than the Trane quote. After doing the necessary research on Daikin, which is a quality, highly rated brand, I asked for my deposit back from the other company and went with Obie. The friendly Obie team expertly installed our two-stage, variable speed blower high-efficiency Daikin furnace and Ecobee smart thermostat. The five inch filter they installed has eliminated the dust generated with the older furnace. The smart thermostat uses sensors you can put on each floor to figure out how to keep your home the most comfortable for the least amount of money. You can also adjust your thermostat from anywhere using the Ecobee app. Are the kids cranking the heat up too high while you are away? No problem, just turn it down! With our new Daikin furnace, we are saving money on natural gas every month while being more comfortable than we've ever been. No drafts, no cold spots. No noisy, clanking furnace. Complete, uniform comfort. Obie will help guide you through the rebate and zero-interest loan process. They will also schedule your appointment with the building inspector. If you are reading this, you are probably looking for a new furnace installer in Metrowest Boston. I understand the analysis paralysis that you are facing. I had been thinking about the same thing for years before I finally took action. I only wish I had acted sooner. That's why I am pleased to recommend Obie Comfort Solutions for your furnace installation needs based on my own, real-life experience.

The owner came out for the sales pitch and did a good job explaining etc. When the techs came, none spoke English and appeared to not know what they were doing - i.e. untrained. It took them 2 days to finish the install. I had an issue within a few weeks with the tank-less water heater and they sent their "best" plumber out. The plumber was not happy either and said that the pipes were not installed well and that it was "a mess." At a maintenance session a few years later, the tech told me I did not need to use filters and then proceeded to close up the filter opening. so I could not access it. Needless to say, within 2 years the system was not working, they sent out a repair tech who told me that the coils were filthy and it would need to be replaced. WHAT! Fortunately, they fixed it for free by cleaning it - not replacing it. I guess if you are paying for the repairs there is a different set of standards than if the company is fixing it. It does work, but am crossing my fingers that it will last through the next 6-7 years before I have to replace it. They appear to hire untrained workers hoping that no one will notice. Run away from them before you have a disaster too.
