Wassup yall. I'm back again to tell yall about this amazing place down in Greenpoint area. Vibe is dope, side doors are open to get that fresh air and release the good smell out of the restaurant. That's what sold me. Service was great. I had my drink given to me immediately and the appetizer came out piping hot and fluffy. I ended up getting the falafel with pita on the side. Very nice and crunchy for the pita bread. So soft and warm. The tahini sauce was immaculate as i poured some onto the bread and falafel. Now the main dish I got was the chicken pita which by far was good. The seasoning was just right and the chicken were nice big pieces and tender that it kept coming out of the sandwich. So good especially paired up with the sauce. Do recommend coming here for something nice, light and filling. read more

The food here is pretty standard Turkish food, but the overall experience wasn't so great if I'm honest. We arrived at lunch time on a weekend, and there was no one inside, only one person behind the counter, who ignored us. We walked up and talked to the person and I believe he's a kitchen staff and wasn't responsible for greeting guests and taking orders, but it's almost noon, so if you're not ready for service, perhaps change the times you're open? When you're open, people expect to be greeted and seated, and given a menu, and have the order taken. We actually had to walk up again to the counter to place order. After more than 15 minutes our food came. A waiter-looking person served our food and he was nice, but we would have loved for him to be there when we arrived. I ordered Mixed Grill: Medium Lamb Gyro, Shepherd Salad, Mushroom Salad. it is good verities of meat. Adana Kebab small size but it is pretty good potion. My friend and I love going out to eat lunch or dinner at local places, and this is the first one we've vowed to return to. The space itself is lovely, filled with small touches of a far away place. The staff is bustling, as the space is a mix of dine-in, takeout, and delivery. We both were drooling at the photos of the juicy kebabs, so we got the mixed platter, filled with well seasoned, tender cuts of lamb & chicken, fragrant rice pilaf, salad and pickled cabbage. Former review was 10 years ago where the guy on the phone was a complete D. Made me hate them while loving the food so much. Fast forward, yes... I've been eating there still over the last ten years in secret. As much as I hated the staff, the food is too good. I don't know what's authentic Turkish food but this place does everything right. Starting with the best soup ever created, the lentil soup. I've searched many places that served lentil soup but not one came close to how delicious Kestane did it. The chicken kebab, the chicken chop, the chicken gyro, the Adana are some of the best skewers and grilled meats out there. Everything is great. The pita bread is the most authentic and delicious bread I've had from any Mediterranean restaurant. It's basically what Jesus ate. I mean, the bread alone is worth the visit alone. So hate them or love them, some ill regarded emotional feelings of the past, can't stop me from coming back. Love hate relationship. read more

Terrible. Been ordering here for years. I ordered through Uber eats for the first time tonight and this restaurant gave me stale pita bread with my baba ganoush. When I called to ask the restaurant if they were no longer making their delish Turkish bread the woman on the phone told me "not when ordering through Uber eats because costs are too high". We're talking about bread so how can I trust the quality of any of their food if they change the type of bread based on the app you order through. She was very unapologetic and rude. Told me she didn't know who I was and didn't care how long I've been coming there. I will never order from here again. Side note, saw someone posted about food poisoning just three months ago. This review is actually going to be very hard to me to write because I've been trying to not think about this experience but I feel like it's my job to warn others so they stay away. In my 31- almost 32 years of being alive, I've never had food poisoning... until I ate at Kestane Kebab. To start off, we had a weird vibe as soon as we walked in. But my boyfriend suggested we ate here and he had been before so I figured maybe they were just short staffed. In hindsight, it's obvious that this place isn't up to health codes. Idk why or how they have an A in the window. Anyway, I ordered the chicken gyro and it was just "okay" tasting. It definitely wasn't good but I didn't realize that it was actually bad. After eating it that afternoon, I didn't experience any symptoms until about 7-8pm. Around 9pm I had the absolute WORST stomach pains I've ever had in my life. Around 11pm I felt like I had to throw up so badly but couldn't. I had cold sweats, a headache and was in the most pain I've experienced in my life. Finally I had to force myself to throw up around 3am and then eventually I was throwing up the rest of the night. The symptoms just kept getting worse and worse and at one point I was on the bathroom floor contemplating if I should call an ambulance. I'm 100% convinced I got Salmonella poisoning from Kestane Kebab. It was the only food I ate that day and the chicken was suspicious. I should've known better. I was sick from Saturday until about Thursday that week. I had to call out of work on Monday. I was bed ridden for days. PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!! This has been a traumatic experience I don't wish on anyone. It's not worth it. read more

A few year ago, my Turkish friend introduced me this restaurant and told me this restaurant is very authentic. It's the same flavor they taste in Turkey. Ever since then whenever I have an urge for Turkish or Mediterranean food, Kestane kebab is my go to place. Their Gyro is so tender and juice. I would say it's the best in town. Lentil soup are superb. Hummus and baba ganoush are top on my list, too. I just learn the other days that they make their own bread. No wonder the breads are always warm and fresh. My orders are always fast and the staffs are friendly. I am very happy they moved to Franklin Street. Now they have more sitting area inside the restaurant and also a beautiful outdoor sitting area decorated with beautiful Turkish pots and flower. So many good restaurants are out of business due to the pandemic. I am very happy to see Kestane survives. Personally I will definitely dine in or take out more to support my favorite restaurant. Had a very awkward dinner where the server basically ignored the two women at the table. The food was fine though again, the men at the table were prioritized and attended to while I had to remind the server of my missing drink and food. The spicy vegetable dip and bread were tasty. We ordered a couple of falafel sandwiches for take-out. When we went to pick them up, there was a worker (maybe the manager) walking around without a mask. The food was bland and the veggies in it were old. You know that weird texture when a tomato has been left out for too long. Our company has been ordering from this restaurant pretty much anytime our business orders "lunch on the house" for the employees. I keep complaining about the lack of quality vs price [because there is a $20 cap for each associate but everything on their menu worth eating is $20 and up. The quality vs price ratio is so incredibly low I can't comprehend how we keep placing these orders, as they literally mess something up every... single... time... ... Either white sauce will be minimal [like a tiny vial for a meal for 5 people] or entire entrees will be left out and not delivered... EVERY.... SINGLE... TIME... .... so basically, if you want to PAY EXORBITANT PRICES for some below-average Middle-Eastern food that will always come with missing entress/items and incorrectly portioned condiments cooked in a way that tastes less pleasing that getting Halal Food at pretty much any Deli in Greenpoint.... well than this is your place... ... I sincerely hope our business stops giving money to this restaurant. I keep complaining and asking to order from literally any other restaurant... any single one [they're almost ALL better than this place around here and the VAST MAJORITY charge prices that ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE and DON'T FORGET ENTIRE ENTREES EVERY SINGLE TIME AN ORDER IS PLACED/DELVERED] and hoping maybe the next time we are ready to do this we just do a random draw or something (WAAAAYYYYY less risky than ordering from this place because they will straight up NOT BRING ALL THE FOOD YOU PAID FOR every single time). 6 orders since I started from this place. Every single order was missing items. Like entire meals (not just sides). For the love of all that is holy stay away from the place and just throw your money in a furnace instead; at least that way it will keep you warm for a little few seconds [which has more objective value that ordering from a place that literally forgets entire entrees everytime a deliery is processed]. I live in the neighborhood and order from here regularly. They have the best lentil soup I've ever tried and their falafel pita is consistently fresh and delicious. Typical Middle Eastern menu with a Turkish spin on things here. I had the Chicken Shawarma in a pita for $7. Having a wrap or a plate is another option. Big portions and good quality with a solid amount of meat. Will be back to try some of the other menu options. read more

Was worried by the lukewarm reviews but had a good experience getting delivery from here. They're open for delivery relatively late which another plus in my books. I got their large sampler platter which is a great deal - comes with your choice of 5 appetizers. I had baba ganoush (good although not particularly smokey), eggplant salad (very yummy, I love this stuff), eggplant with tomato (my favorite side to my surprise, eggplant was very flavorful mixed in with tomato, this dish was actual pieces of eggplant, not a dip/puree like the baba ganoush and eggplant salad), hummus (meh, thicker than ideal), tabouli (good, quite a bit of acidity), mushroom salad (tasty though not standout), beets (far to acidic for me, I could only take a few bites before giving up). I'd stick to their eggplant dishes in general where they shine! read more
