The food used to be good. But now it arrives cold, and undercooked. The rice used to be intoxicating. But now it's merely adequate. Dessert? The rice pudding is now more like rice pudding soup. The delivery is crap. There's always an excuse... "It took too long to print the order." "It's better if you order from our website, not Seamless." They are less than 1 1/2 miles from my apartment, yet always take MORE than an hour to deliver. Love this place! The food is delicious and I never have to wait long. I always get the baked eggplant which is really yummy, I highly recommend trying it. I also often see people coming out really happy with their gyros and such. The people that work there are also really good guys, I live in the area and they are always sweet to my dog and also helped me out one time when I was being harassed by a stranger, so I can't speak highly enough. Having just returned from Greece I will say the food here is just as fresh and authentic then anything I tasted abroad. While it's Turkish and not Greek they have similar dishes made ever so slightly differently but very tasty. Great quantities, lovely atmosphere and outside seating and a warm family owned and operated staff. Girly recommend. Not one to leave reviews, but I thought my appalling experience here deserved some recognition. I was greeted by the owner saying, "what would you like? We don't serve Chinese food here". His kitchen staff thought it was pretty funny and laughed along. What seemed like some of his regulars chimed in with "asian" inspired pita suggestions and then continued insulting me in their own language (turkish?). The foreign staff adds to the illusion of authenticity to the food, but please keep your old-world, backwards-a$$, racist humor to yourself or GTFO! The sauces they give you are what really makes it, the white sauce and hot sauce are the best. Get extra! I love ordering delivery from here and they stay open pretty late. Kestane Kebab is the only place that delivers Mediterranean food to LIC, and I hope they never stop! They are really a 5-star when it comes to the neighborhood, but I think still a 4-star overall--for delivery. I've never eaten there in person. My hands-down favorite dish is the Stuffed Cabbage. It's filled with a mixture of ground lamb and beef, rice, herbs and smothered in a unique spicy tomato-based sauce. There's so much flavor in this dish, without it being overly salty. The zucchini fritters (Mucver) are also pretty good. The lamb/chicken entrees and gyro dishes are all solid, but nothing to write home about. And in my opinion, the chicken is a little on the dry side. For dessert, I've also tried their rice pudding, which is a little creamier than your typical rice pudding, but still delish. Whoever was answering the phones for delivery tonight needs to get schooled about customer service big time. I understand your place is not quite fine dining but cheap eats does not necessarily mean no quality of service. Especially if you're offering delivery service. Kestane is on seamless. They also have their own website where you can place your order. We noticed the price differences between the two. Red Lentil soup is $4 on their website and $5 on seamless. A significant 25% difference. Why not save a few dollars and order through their site right? Ok. Not ok. Site has some glitch going on and it wasn't letting us pay with a card. Just PayPal (another story saved for another time lol). Bf finally decided to go Jurassic and used the telephone to place our order. Guy on the other end couldn't quite explain the reason for price difference but definitely charges us their seamless prices. We got their lamb and chicken kebab platters and red lentil soup. Platters comes with rice and some grilled vegetables. They also include pita breads in a separate aluminum wrap. Food is at best mediocre and ok for a rainy night in. Having the yogurt sauce would have elevated it to probably a half star, but they forgot to include it in our bag. Delivery guy wasn't quite helpful when we called him a few seconds before he left the building but he really is not the problem. We decided to call again to let the store know we need the yogurt sauce and to maybe get it delivered or at least get a sincere apology for forgetting it. Same guy answered the phone, bf told him that we did not get it in the bag and I wasn't quite sure what he said but bf was on the phone thinking he was put on hold but apparently guy hung up on him. A tad unprofessional but ok, maybe they got cut (yea, ok). Another phone call and the same guy answers with a "how do you know it's not in the bag? I packed it myself!" What? Are you serious? (Insert rant here) One would think that, maybe, just maybe, if a restaurant offered delivery in NYC, they wouldn't act as if you just killed their first born when you take advantage of it. Out of the dozen or so times I've ordered from here over the past few months, I've been screamed at, had my delivery flung at, been argued with, been brought cold food, and generally treated like I was the biggest imposition the world over, simply because I live in an apartment building with no elevator. If you don't want to walk up stairs, either say so on your order page or simply don't offer delivery. Otherwise, stop your bitching, and remember who the customer is and how they should be treated. (End rant) That said, the food is good, although a bit pricey. Finally, Greenpoint has a great Middle Eastern place. Everything I've had here has been really fresh and delicious. I love the red lentil soup and the Adana Kebab. They also make something called a Kestane Salad, which is like a Greek salad but has a different kind of cheese on it. I really, really like it. The falafel is good, too. Also, the guys who work there are super friendly and they seem to appreciate their customers. It's not really a dining-in spot where you'll linger for hours, but that said I've seen people do it and the owners are happy to have the tables occupied. But whether you eat in or take out, everything I've had here has been delicious. read more

Owner was terribly rude, and made numerous belittling and snide comments to me whilst placing my order, and continued to berate me up to the point that I received my order and walked out while he still slung rude remarks. The food was even worse than his attitude; grape leaves were horrible! Sickly-sweet and lacking any flavour or spice. Mushy, cold, gross. The gyro sandwich I ordered was so oily it leaked through the bag AND the foil and got on my rug! The lamb was horrible, bland, oily, and primarily fatty tissue. Paired with a thin, watery, tasteless attempt at tsatziki. Horrible horrible experience.
