To whom it may concern, I am writing to you mostly out of selfishness. I need to get this off of my chest, as it has genuinely put a damper on what I expect from not only my wedding plans, but the "elite" in the business. Marriage is a beautiful thing. Two people give themselves up to be with one another as a promise for eternity. My fiance and I went into this extremely hopeful. As new residents to Charlottesville, and plenty of money in the bank, we decided to begin our venue hunt with Keswick. Your reputation, as well as your marketing materials, precede you. Disappointed could not be more ill equipped of a term for our experience with your contact Adam. Upon arrival we were greeted graciously by everyone around us- great start, right? The land was gorgeous, the people were stellar. We were informed that Mr. Adam was on a conference call as we entered, and that he should be with us shortly. "Shortly" turned to twenty minutes. Twenty turned to thirty. Thirty turned to forty five. A great start for a couple preparing to spend upwards of $40,000 with your establishment. He finally arrives, with barely fifty words to say, and has the nerve to leave for a more important matter in less than ten minutes. Awesome. I genuinely don't have more of a complaint. He was gone. We came in prepared to spend a Mercedes, and left before we were able to ask a single question..... after we were made to wait for nearly an hour in the middle of a Saturday. It's without saying that you will not entertain our business, and I apologize that this letter could not be more upbeat. But you hurt us, and our commitment to each other. We were enthusiastic to learn from the best and pretty hopeful that we had found our place. Thanks for setting the tone- I really hope the rest of the industry is less like you. This is a beautiful hotel. We were in Charlottesville for a funeral, and since I was overseas during Valentine's Day, decided to make a date out of it and stay here. Our hotel suite was gorgeous, very classy, I felt like I was in a fancy magazine room. Huge bed with beautiful decor, large bathroom with large bathtub and very nice complimentary bath products. Very high quality. In addition to our room, the grounds in general were gorgeous, the giant house we were in we took maybe around an hour exploring it was so huge. Lots of rooms with pool tables and lounge areas and really just a gorgeous space to explore. Just down the hill from the giant main building was a smaller one with a pool and a nice bar. One downside to our stay here involved the bathtub. Don't want to go into too much detail, but the water was SCALDING, literally you could not turn the temperature down to a reasonable human level. We tried. We thought about complaining but we were only there one night and didn't want to get into it. Attempting to use the bathtub was absolute misery. In all, the boiling water coming from the bathtub faucet doesn't ruin the general beautiful atmosphere and general amazingness of staying here. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again. Very classy. read more

I'd recommend coming Spring - early Fall to take advantage of their pool and walking the grounds. The rooms are on the smaller side which is to be expected since it was originally a private home. The hotel has that cozy feel to it as do the rooms. The downstairs is open and encourages people to roam and mingle. The night time turn down service is lovely and overall everyone is extremely friendly here. I'd recommend this hotel for people out of the area who are looking for a beautiful place to stay while exploring the area. While everything was pretty, I just don't know if I'd personally stay again considering I'm somewhat in the area. There could be updating of some small things: Hairdryers - very out dated White noise machine (would be a great option to help with the noise from downstairs as you can hear the chatter if you're in a room close to the stairs) read more

It was a HOLIDAY WEEKEND [rainy 3 days, to add to the fun] Oh, and, my 46 TH birthday weekend. This is a wonderful property; the employees are amazing, and well versed The below is only the view I gave the management team. Their response is why I give them a 5, oh yea, and, the birthday present they sent to my room. You can clearly see how many couples were there for the weekend, many were having massages. There are ways to create interaction, and a fun experience. Minnie 9 hole tournament for couples, round robin tennis, even create winery outings. If you have similar events, we were never informed. It seemed that guests could not play in the member golf outing; there should be a slight inclusion in this process. Just because we don't have a membership, guess what? This would help sell those memberships. That inclusion might have swayed us to move our Farmington Membership to Keswick. Finally, your event team needs to work harder with managing the wedding guests; keep them away from the other patrons which are repeat. They might be a one hit wonder, and may never come again. (the younger wild kids, of course) Calling customers and upgrading them or enticing them with special incentives, especially if they have been coming for years and have a special room, treat them as such. Here are my final thoughts; Sales, Golf, Tennis, Spa, Dining, and Event Planning do not work together to create a cohesive experience. While the property is a nice throw back in time, and Mr. Goodwin is working to create change, there needs to be teamwork. This does not mean that the employees aren't pleasant, they are amazing. However, your guest's "BRAND" experience needs to be your number 1 priority. Trying to sell me on other properties at the end of a survey email is an after thought. The front-desk should include this in a nice piece of informative collateral from the beginning, guests have downtime and it's the perfect space for soft selling. All of Bill Goodwin's properties have tasteful elegance, remember that, because The Greenbrier is losing it and The Homestead is falling apart. read more

The rooms are small but well appointed...I supposed 'cozy' could be a more apt description. Our room had a small balcony with table which we had breakfast on. The views are wonderful and the various rooms in the 'villa' are interesting to meader through. The bathroom was small but did have a loverly big tub that I felt compelled to sit down in, even as I showered! Children that I saw there seemed very well behaved in comparison to other resorts similar to this, and there was a refreshing naturalness of other guests. read more

We spent an entire weekend here and I was continuously underwhelmed at best and disappointed at worst. This is a sister hotel of the Jefferson in Richmond, which is one of my favorite hotels in the world, so I was expecting great things. The primary issue seems to be that no one who works here is in the hospitality industry -- the staff is mainly comprised of college-aged students who clearly have not been given proper training. A few examples: No one ever offered to help us with our bags. We ordered room service for breakfast one morning and the woman forgot the cream and went back to the kitchen, taking 15 minutes to come back so by the time she arrived our coffee was cold, but never offered to bring us new coffee. That wouldn't have been so egregious but the exact same thing happened the next day! We had brunch and dinner in the restaurant and both times I was constantly asking someone to fill my water glass or coffee -- no one ever did it without asking which I think is a bit careless for such an expensive restaurant. I will say that the sommelier was excellent and one of the only people we encountered all weekend that represented Keswick well! We also had massages at the spa, which were pretty mediocre. The most annoying thing that I am still very mad about though is the fact that we left two chargers in the room -- a cell phone charger plugged in by the desk, and a macbook charger plugged in under the coffee maker. It was not a question of whether or not we left them, I knew exactly where I left them when I got home and called the next day with their location and our room number. I was told that they were "never turned in" and never got them back. So basically, the staff took them. It cost me $80 to replace the macbook charger, and it was just so frustrating and so unexpected for what is supposed to be a "nice" hotel. I would definitely recommend anyone thinking about staying here stay at the Boars Head instead -- I have stayed there once before and it definitely had a much more professional and welcoming atmosphere. read more

The setting of this hotel is beautiful and elegant. Originally built as a home at the turn of the century, it is not your typical hotel setting. Our room was fairly basic, but was comfortable and clean. Multiple sitting areas with roaring fireplaces offer a mulitude of cozy spots to settle in with a cocktail. The restaurant is outragously good, and offers the same menu in their more casual bar. We were lucky enough to enjoy a meal by the fire. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we returned to the same table the next evening - never made it to the actual restaurant! Close proximity to local wineries and the array of amenities offered (spa, golf, etc.) makes Keswick an easy choice. read more

A really special and stunning resort. We loved the adults-only, salt water infinity pool with the edge looking over the spectacular Pete Dye designed golf course. Our room was lovely, comfortable and large. The service was outstanding, as one would expect from a place such as this. This is destined to be one of my local go-to resorts. My partner and I were able to stay in one of Keswick Halls king rooms; we were the first guests during their grand reopening. The king room is advertised as the lowest tier room at the property during booking, but the size of the room is HUGE, and offers nothing but premium amenities. Our bedroom view was central to the golf course and morning sunrises were mesmerizing as the fog that slowly crept up and evaporated. The staff was extremely attentive to all of our needs during the stay, hand over foot (maybe because of the grand opening). The new infinity pool was huge and refreshing it offered a full bar, and complementary buckets of premium alkaline water. We dined at Marigold's the on-property restaurant (and only restaurant within 15 minutes). Both Danny (US Director of Operations for the Restaurant Group) and Katrina (General Manager of the site) were extremely attentive and welcomed our feedback, quickly correcting any issues with EACH of our meals. Danny even took time out of his day to teach me how to play the on-site French game Pétanque. The course is great and staff are extremely friendly, the range and range balls are complementary for guests. The only con's I can think of are: the lack of Spa, the construction of additional wings (housing the last ~46 rooms), new gym, and golf pro shop. I was told the entire Keswick project would be complete Fall 2022, which is when I would most likely return to attain the full experience. read more

been here for a couple days with my boyfriend. The grounds are beautiful and the people are kind but the service is not good. It seems as if they just hired a bunch of new people. Every restaurant takes forever to bring you food. Employees don't know the answers to simple questions (example: how far away is the Univ of Virginia) Tonight we we ordered a drink and cheese plate from the bar. An hour later they informed us that they didn't have cheese. Every restaurant you go to in the hotel takes about an hour and fifteen minutes until you get your food. Another gorgeously maintained Orient-Express property, Keswick Hall was once owned by Laura Ashley and has now been turned into an elegant hotel. The grounds are stunning. A beautiful golf course and two heated pools surround the property, while the Blue Ridge Mountains rise in the distance. We spent the evening taking dips in the hot tub and having drinks on the back patio taking in the amber sunset and rolling hills, and in the morning we took a dip in the infinity-edged and heated pool, followed by breakfast at Fossett's, the restaurant in the hotel named after Jefferson's cook. Absolutely a wonderful and relaxing place. read more

This was an amazing treat! We did not know much about the hotel when we made reservations and what a pleasant surprise. As soon as we walked in the door they offered us a glass of fresh squeezed lemon aid. They welcomed our dog with a goodie bag and the chef cooked dinner for him. The room was spacious and very comfortable. This is very unique and luxurious experience. We sat by the pool with our dog and snacked on a cheese board in the afternoon, took walks around the grounds and played a round of golf. It is everything you want in a vacation if you are looking to have top service and peace. read more

My fiance and I attended a beautiful wedding at Keswick Hall in Charlottesville, VA in August. We had a fantastic time sipping on drinks, dining in the grand courtyard, and overlooking the magnificent pool and large golf course. It's truly a classy place. Both its indoor and outdoor space is grand and intricately designed. There was a large outdoor space for a tented area for the meal and the indoor area had enough space for multiple levels and a large dance floor. The bride and groom also had fireworks over the golf course during their reception and it was a beautiful sight to behold! I'd definitely recommend Keswick Hall as a great venue space in Charlottesville, VA. The wedding we attended was charming and had a lot of Southern elegance. Keswick is located about 15 minutes from downtown Charlottesville, an easy drive (and the bride and groom provided shuttle transportation, which was much appreciated). read more

I just returned from my two-night stay at Keswick Hall. I have stayed at Keswick Hall when Orient Express owned the property and now under the new ownership. The property is still beautiful (except for the golf course renovation), but there were a few aspects that showed an inattention to detail. This review is really 2.5 stars--- the 2.5 stars are for the beauty of the hotel and grounds (the furniture that was bought during the Orient Express and earlier days) 1) After our first night, we went out all day and returned at 3:30pm to find that our room had not been serviced yet and I had to find housekeeping to service the room. 2) The resort fee that is added onto the nightly fee didn't seem to cover much--- For instance, the Horizon Pool had no attendant and there were dirty towels littered around the pool deck. 3) The second morning we were there, we were woken up at 7:30am by the sound of a woman screaming on a megaphone and wild cheering. The crowd was so close that I could hear every word the woman was saying. Apparently Keswick sponsors a race/walk and they assembled right outside our hotel window. I am for the cause, but that is a totally amateur mistake. The property is HUGE-- there are hundreds of acres where the runners could assemble. The management should have informed me of this race and given me the option to trade rooms if I wanted to. They gave me a fifty dollar credit, but I am happy to pay full price for peace and quiet. That said, we will spend our future weekend getaways elsewhere. It's a shame because we used to love going to Keswick. read more

This is a review for the tea. $22/person. The setting was totally stunning, and we were almost alone in a huge room with stunning windows looking out over the beautiful grounds of Keswick. We were visiting for my grandmother's 80th birthday, because she loves high tea. We were all wearing tea hats and felt a little goofy, but were treated with the utmost respect and great service. The atmosphere was excellent for tea. For the price, this is a solid high tea. I'm rating it a 3 on yelps 3-means-"A-ok" because I'm not quite a fan-for-a-four, but if you do tea this one is worth your time. They had a nice but not overly expansive selection of herbal, green, and black teas; I had the vanilla bean tea which I highly recommend -- it got better the longer it steeped (which was a problem with some of the other teas, where the second cup was pretty disgusting and bitter), and cream and sugar accentuated its flavors. The food was enough for a mid-afternoon snack, which is appropriate, and all were well-made. So, if the rave review, why a 3-star and not higher? A few things: 1. I know that traditional high teas don't do this, but I drink a LOT of tea, and a bottomless pot of hot water on even one set of tea leaves would have been much appreciated. As it were I wanted more and wasn't really satisfied by the amount of tea in the pot. 2. The other teas were literally DISGUSTING after steeping for a while. The tea really should have been steeped in the kitchen and then brought out, so that we didn't get the gross bitter tea. (I mean, really, it was undrinkable. I guess we were sitting around a while, but this shouldn't be impossible.) 3. It would have been great to have tea to share, not just personal pots. I wanted to try the other teas, but they weren't set up to do that well. 4. The savory selection was really lacking. Just a couple more savory bites -- or making the savory bites larger! -- would have drastically improved the whole experience. 5. The automatic 20% gratuity was offensive. This was not a full service dinner, and they did not bring us extra pots of hot water. The servers brought us our tea, two trays, and left, occasionally coming back to refill water. Which was perfect. Then they added an automatic 20% gratuity. 6. We had to ask for cream, they didn't bring it out. If the tea had been more expensive, I would have marked it down further for its deficiencies. But trust me, at $22 per person, this tea is a steal. Dress up and grab a friend, put on your best fake accent and a sun hat, and come here maybe once. read more

We went for brunch on Sunday. Keswick Hall is wonderfully charming... A step back in time to a slower pace. Antiques and the country setting make this place sing. While we waited for our table, we sat next to the roaring fire with club fender in the foyer. We ate in Fossett's and were seated by the windows overlooking the golf course and rolling hills in the background. Keswick Hall's brunch is a la carte ...off the menu... No buffet. We both had "Eggs Keswick" .....delicious but the "Kite's Ham" was so salty we could not eat it. Very nice place to languish and enjoy your food, conversation and the view. read more

This is an update. We usually don't get to come here over the holidays but this year was an exception. Talk about a beautiful environment. It's like having a really rich friend to invite you to stay for a few days but your friend isn't there and you have the run of the house and all of his staff. It's amazing. The holiday decorations are a joy to look at. The staff is excellent special mention needs to go to the front desk staff of Kathleen, and Lisa Decker. I also want to point out that the wait staff of Michael, Rachel and Brittany were really quite excellent as well. The food at Fossetts restaurant was its usual incredible scrumptiousness and the lunch buffet in the Villa Crawford was amazing as well. One thing to note the lunch buffet has gotten quite popular so make lunch reservations every day if you want to get in.The one really cool thing about keswick hall is that dogs are allowed and there are few things better than hanging around a giant roaring fireplace with your hound at your feet. read more

I "met" Keswick Hall in challenging circumstances--leading a trip for 30 mostly-senior citizens from southern California. And Keswick Hall more than rose to the occasion. Of course, the hotel and setting was beautiful--it floored my guests who have traveled all over the world. And the food was amazing, both in the restaurant that sports the most magnificent windows over the golf course, and as part of our catered event. But it was the people who not only helped make our tour a success but let me relax and enjoy. Olivia dealt with dithering dining arrangements with humor and gracious patience. The concierge--I THINK her name was Celia (please excuse)--was invaluable in moving us to and from various locations. She was not only the picture of hospitality but a creative problem solver as well! Would I return? In a flash! But next time, by myself and I'll let the wonderful staff take good care of me! read more

I have stayed at Keswick Hall two or three times a year for almost a decade. I have reservations for this summer. I hope they won't be my last. Keswick was stunning. Each guest room was a superbly-decorated retreat; no two were alike. Although service was not reliable, the hotel was so beautiful, so calming, we returned year after year with anticipation and joy. Then last year the local ladies in the club house exercise class shared that there were plans to build an addition and make all rooms the same in order to attract more conferences and golf enthusiasts. Even the ladies were concerned. When I went online to make a reservation, I saw that it was true. The antiques are gone. Every room has the same standard issue hotel furniture found in every high-end chain hotel. When I called to find if any unchanged rooms were available, the receptionist clearly had heard it all before. She extolled the "refreshed" rooms telling me about the beds made in Kentucky, the such and such brand bed throws, and the new white tile in the bathrooms. I cannot tell you how sad I am that Keswick has been "refreshed." I have traveled all over the world and have stayed in incredible boutique hotels but I have never been in love with the beauty and tranquility of a hotel like I have with Keswick. It would be hard to change the bones of this beautiful place; the building is gorgeous and the pool is wonderful. But now, anyone who travels will instantly recognize the generic beige rooms, white tile bathrooms, and bed throws; they are found at thousands of hotels. But that is not why I returned to Keswick year after year. A boutique hotel gem has been homogenized into a pleasant hotel. Conference planners take note. read more

We live in DC and stayed at Keswick Hall for 3 nights during our honeymoon in June. Not only are grounds and hotel so serene and beautiful but the service is unparalleled. Everyone was kind and attentive. Also, the food was spectacular. We ate almost every meal on their terrace and everything we ordered was top-notch. Lastly, we took advantage of the pool, spa, and bicycles. All were equally enjoyable. We look forward to returning for our anniversary. read more

I came here for my honeymoon in late october. Beautiful! I travel a lot, all over the world and would have never expected to find this place in Virginia. Never thought I would vacation in Virginia, but The Keswick Hall is a 5 star place. The service here is superb. I was referred to by name by the staff, our room was made up multiple times per day, we always had everything we needed. Special request were fulfilled in a timely manor. Everything they did exceeded my expectations. The spa is amazing, the bar cocktails so refreshing, every meal where ever you eat is top notch. We also did the wine cellar dinner which is pricey but well worth it. You are treated like Kings and Queens. Eating, especially fine dinning is one of my hobbies and this experience once again was over the top. We will be back! Keswick Hall, see you soon. If you go I would recommend getting a rental car and flying in and out of CHO airport. Both are very reasonable. The vineyard tasting are great and Charlottesville was very quant. read more

Stayed here for the first night of our honeymoon. BEAUTIFUL accommodations and a big bath tub, and the tasting menu paired with wine was sumptuous! They even gave us some recommendations for places to stop on our trip. I've been there for my grandma's birthday lunch, and they're helpful and generous, and they even grow a lot of their produce on the premises! Recently stayed here for 1 night to celebrate my husband's birthday. Even though we went during the off season, we were ready for a fun splurge! Summary: this is a beautiful hotel, but it was slightly lacking in quality of service. I'd give the overall experience 3.5 stars. Location: beautiful hotel, peaceful location! Lots of rooms to poke around in, a fun place to explore. Room: We had the smallest kind of room (Superior) but I loved it! It was beautiful, comfy bed, huge tub, lots of snacks, great turn down service. TV in Room: terrible! We didn't get HBO, even though it was advertised. And several basic channels were dark & blurry, and no amount of adjusting the TV changed that. Location of Room: Not great. I was prepared for that, because again we were staying in the smallest room. But we were on the 2nd floor, right near the stairs, and we could hear every single person talking in the billiards room downstairs. I was awakened before 8:00am by people playing pool. Not awesome. Bar: Really cozy, fireplace, with a superb bartender. He was friendly and helpful, even when we ordered off-menu, non-standard drinks. Restaurant: We ate dinner at Fossetts, which was pretty good but not amazing (I wrote a separate review on Fossett's yelp page). Service: Everyone was polite and friendly, but I was disappointed. I had written to the staff weeks prior to our visit to inform them it was my husband's birthday, and I even ordered lots of extras for the room. But in our entire stay none of the staff said anything about his birthday, there was no note of it in our hand-written welcome card, and I had to remind the waiters at the restaurant that it was his birthday. I mean, this is a small detail overall. But if I'm paying $600 plus for a hotel stay (including room, drinks, and meals), I expect a little more attention to detail from the staff. Overall it was a relaxing, nice weekend. But not quite the quality I was expecting given the high price. read more

Service a little slow due to new staff but patience allows a great experience

8 of us ventured down from No.Va. To play 18 on the hottest day of the year so far. Great customer service. Even had someone other than the beverage cart lady out offering you cold bottled water. Nice touch on such a hot humid day. As to golf, the Pete Dye redo is fantastic. The greens were tricky bit rolled well and in wonderful shape for a year old. Can't say the same for the fairways. Although not horrible their just "new" and about a year away from being perfect I am sure. Loved what Pete Dye I'd here. His minimalist approach and layout blend so well with the lovely hunt country setting you can almost imagine your in England or Scotland. Can't wait to come back in the fall and try this beauty again. read more

How the Keswick ever got a five-star Forbes rating is a complete bewilderment. First time in our world travels of many years staying at fine hotels, we ever had to check out early and cut short our vacation. To begin, you start your check-in process with the "hotel game." Despite requesting a room without slanted walls or asystemical ceilings, the "managing" desk lady looks me straight in the eyes with a smirk, and tells me to take a look at the beautiful "deluxe superior" room they reserved for us. Guess what the room is they take us to: AN ATTIC ROOM WITH CURVED CEILINGS-small with a little window. Next step is back to the desk where the smrky manager has left for the evening and we are greeted/confronted by the next smart-alec lady who robotically tells us the hotel is full, but if we give her some time she will see what see can do. (SOUND FAMILIAR?) TWO HOURS LATER, she says she has found a triple upgrade with a balcony. We go and take a look at what is a small room (for a five star) with a view of the...PARKING LOT!! The second in command, Patricia, the historian instructs us to let our eyes bypass the parking lot and look at the gardens in the hinter. And, while lecturing us about the "triple upgrade" of this room, that if we stay here one night, we can pack up and they will find us a better room tomr. We arrived at 2, this is 5:30pm.So we exhaustively agree. Let me tell you about this 'SUPERIOR" room w. a balcony. It is small, dark and dingy. There is NO closet, but an old armoire with a struggling key, no radio, an old alarm dusty and not settable, no mini refrig., worst of all is the filthy balcony and moldy shower. If you think of even going to the Keswick for one night with the cost of $525 for this room (479 plus taxes, 40 resort fee plus more taxes), you really should think it over!! On the positive side, the breakfast staff was excellent as were the bell gentlemen who were extremely kind, knowledgeable, respectful and efficient. The infinity pool was nice, but to get there you have to prance through a bar/restaurant! And the indoor pool is not located in the main building, but in the golf house - a walk away. On a personal side note, the LEADING HOTELS seem to be far superior in every way than this PREFERRED hotel and yes, I will question Forbes on their judgement. This review only concerns the dining establishment. My wife made reservations for Christmas Eve in the restaurant, and we were very excited, but we left extremely disappointed. First, my wife was told over the phone that our 4yo daughter could eat free during the buffet style holiday meal (she eats very little to begin with.) When we arrived, it was difficult to get anyone to seat us. We never really knew who our server was. Getting drinks was random at best, and service was slothful to say the least. The food was average at best, with a rather limited selection. The staff was pleasant, but not very responsive to requests. After 30 minutes waiting after we had obviously finished our meal, I had to query the few visible staff to get our check. When we got the bill, we were shocked to find out they charged us full price for our 4yo. Of course, when I asked to speak with a manager, none could be found. Just to be done with the water torture that was trying to get some help from the staff, we just paid the bill and left, with no intention to ever return. Next time our holiday meal out will be at the Boar's Head. read more

I live in Keswick and often eat at Fossett's bar. Last night I was served one of the worst meals I've ever had. I ordered the mussels after I asked the bartender how they were prepared and he did not know. I was served what tasted like gritty mussels drowned in a jar of pickled jalapenos. The quality of the mussels was what a chain restaurant would serve, and the preparation made then inedible. I sent them back and ordered a cobb salad, which fortunately the new chef has not changed, but was then also billed for both. They corrected the bill after pointing it out to them. read more

The location and grounds are unbelievably beautiful, peaceful, relaxing - truly lovely. We loved sitting by the Horizon Pool, reading and having lunch. All around, the food and variety of food available was wonderful. No complaints about the room, which was a nice size and well appointed. Because of the convenience and beauty, we will return, but they are just shy of being a true luxury destination because of the lack of attention to detail. If the very friendly service had just been more attentive, I would have given another star. For a resort this expensive, they miss a lot of details. Before our stay I received an online survey asking me if I we were celebrating anything (we were - an anniversary) and if I would like any additional amenities waiting (yes, chocolate covered strawberries). The strawberries never came (thankfully we were not charged) and the anniversary was never acknowledged. Our first night we were dining outdoors and the sprinklers came on, getting all of the diners wet. It took them 20 minutes to turn off the water, but there was no offer to move anyone indoors, or any attempt to make amends for the fact that we were all sprayed while we ate. We enjoyed some wine in our room, and while the room was cleaned the next morning the glasses were not - they were just returned to their original spot on the table, lipstick and all still there. At the evening turn down, used glasses and cups were just left out on the table, no attempt to clean whatsoever. Water glasses and coffee cups stayed empty for long periods during the meals, and the free amenities - like coffee and lemonade in the lobby - were often empty or missing cups. The other thing you should know is that it is very dog friendly, and there are people with dogs everywhere. Small dogs, and for the most part quiet dogs, but again, for the price we were paying, I was surprised to be sitting next to a beagle at the pool (which, interestingly forbade children but allowed dogs!) and at the bar when we went down for a night cap. read more

I will start with the positives: the person doing my message did a really good job. If she was located somewhere else, I would go back. Negatives, booked for a party of five and we had to have varied appointments from 830 to 11:00, but there is not much to do in the meantime because the Spa is located away from the main building. The grill is not open on Monday and the pool is not available to non-hotel guests. They add the tip at the beginning prior to your treatment. So what is your recourse if you don't like your treatment? I am an overtipped, but when you add it up front...thats all you get. Lastly, there was a dog in the spa area that one of the guests brought with them. Gross. I love dogs, but they do not belong in the spa. Overall, poor experience. read more

A group of family and friends went for evening drinks at Villa Crawford a few nights ago and the service was awful. Extremely slow and uncoordinated- there was only one waiter for the entire bar area, including the pool. After waiting for an hour, our $15 cocktails were not very good at all. Keswick used to be a beautiful spot for dinner and a drink, but it's just not worth it any more. read more

We were very eager to try Keswick, but are about to cancel the reservation based on my lousy experience with two reservations agents. The first assured me that none of their rooms had couches -- even though all but the smallest configuration show couches in the photos She quoted a price of $50 for rollaways. An hour later, a different agent quoted a price of $75 for rollaways ... plus a resort fee. When asked what the resort fee covered, she listed the amenities on the website ... plus "historical tours" -- but did not know what the historical tours were. Half the conversation consisted of "we cannot guarantee." After making the reservation, I hung up exhausted--and realized that I did not need the aggravation. The front desk staffer last night seemed both more friendly and better informed. I hope they invest in training the reservations staff. read more

Keswick Hall is incredible for a girlfriend getaway or romantic weekend. My sister and I stayed in historic Suite 9, formerly the master suite in the original Villa Crawford. We sat out on our private balcony with a cocktail and watched the sun set while listening to the birds, the nearby hunting hounds, and the romantic rumbles and whistles of a train going by. It was so lovely out that we dined on the balcony of Fosset's Bar. Anyone can stop by and visit for events like the annual Christmas tree lighting or make a reservation to dine at Fosset's, and there are some great combo deals with the Jefferson Hotel (owned by the same group). The new Pete Dye golf course will be ready in the spring and there's a full service spa on the property for the girls. This would be a great destination wedding venue with the gorgeous grounds and gardens and fabulous food and you can rent the entire hotel if money is no object! Well worth the money and the location is perfect for exploring some of the best wineries in Virginia. read more

My husband and I stayed at Keswick for two nights during a recent trip down to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Monticello, Charlottsville and surrounding areas. The grounds were lush and green and the view out in back overlooking the golf course is amazing. We knew nothing about the place other than the fact that it looked serene and beautiful on line; so, we took a chance! We were so glad that we did. The room was spacious, clean, quiet and well-decorated. The king size bed was HUGE and extremely comfy. We did not have time to take advantage of the many activities on the grounds like golf, croquet, swimming and many others, but, we truly enjoyed our stay. We played a round of pool in the large sitting/billiard room, dined in the exquisite dining room overlooking the grounds (for breakfast only) and visited the pro shop. The rest of the time, we were out exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway from Waynesboro to Natural Bridge and Monticello/Charlottsville. I was surprised to see some 3 star reviews here as our visit was quite fantastic. Coming from the NY/NJ area, I was shocked to see how reasonable the price was for such a fine establishment. I would highly recommend Keswick Hall. We will definitely be back, hopefully for a round of golf, a dip in the amazing pool(s) and a little more R&R!!! read more
