I called KET Home Services this week after my furnace went out. I was a first time customer but found them on Nextdoor with raving reviews so I wanted to give them a try. I wasn't looking for a large HVAC company as I know those places tend to charge more and I also wanted to give a small business in the area the opportunity. I called in the middle of the afternoon and explained my situation, and within 1 hour Ken was at my house. His daughter was the call taker and she was very polite and professional and passed along to Ken that she felt my situation was urgent, which I appreciated. Ken assessed my situation and determined my furnace (20+ years old and on borrowed time) needed to be replaced and was dangerous to continue to use. He was nothing but nice and professional the entire time but stressed the issue of replacing sooner than later. He recommended I not use the furnace. After being at my home for approximately 1 hour, he was very kind and didn't charge me for the service call but instead deemed the visit a "quote". Now that is something you would never get from a "Big Box" company. The next day he emailed me a quote for a new HVAC system as my A/C was on borrowed time as well. He said he could even do the install with in 5 days (WOW). His quote was very fair and reasonable, however I didn't use his company but this was no fault of his. Ken was fantastic and we were told by a competitor that we would need to replace our Carrier A/C because it was over X number of years old... We were also told that in order to refill the coolant it could potentially leak and cause additional problems. To make a long story short, Ken made quick work of everything and was able to add the coolant that was extremely low and only charged us a nominal fee for the coolant. Furnace goes out 5 days before Christmas. Call the company who has serviced it. Not KET. They send guys out on 3 separate days, twice in one day and charge me $350. Furnace dies. So we need new one- was told won't be able to replace until after new year! Got a referral to KET. Ken was professional and very understanding of my family not having heat for 5 days. He came out next day and he and his son Kenny replaced our furnace! Very reasonable price and fixed our existing home humidifer which was not functioning. Here's my main point: why support these big companies who have 20+ employees but don't care about you. If you need any HVAC services, call Ken! Support a local guy and his family. I moved into a condo in July of 2020 my air-conditioning was probably about 35 years old . it was an old Singer Air conditioning . I ended up having to replace it so I called about five different companies I happen to call KET . I got his name from seeing his advertising and one of the local websites Neighborhood. I called Ken he came over and he gave me an estimate explained everything to me I told him I think about it I compared the other estimates to the one Ken gave me I thought he was the most fair priced I called him back to get a little bit more information and at that point I made my decision I was going to go with Ken. I told him I work during the week so he'd have to come on a Saturday he was able to install the unit on Saturday. Now it's time to get my first annual cleaning and inspection so I called Ken and his price is $90 at first I thought it was a bit expensive, but It turns out he's actually lower than quite a few other HVAC companies. Ken is very honest very reliable I totally trust him so I will be using him to do my cleaning and inspection I am very happy that I chose Ken - KET install my unit and maintain my unit for me thank you very much Ken I give your name out often to people that I know are looking for service . Ken put in an 80% efficiency furnace at our duplex to replace one of two 25 year old furnaces that wasn't working and not worth fixing. Ken had best price by far! Everybody else's quote was clearly an attempt to finance a trip to Hawaii by gouging the hell out of me. They wanted an extra thousand dollars for the same job - it was just two hours of on site labor. Ken was also looking out for my best interest when he suggested I keep the old furnace for parts when our other identical old furnace would inevitably need parts and repairs. Ken does not stand by his warranty. The quality of his ductwork installation is lacking and has been denigrated by three different HVAC company representatives. Ken would not stand by his warranty, and now I must dispute with him for payment of other contractors to repair his shoddy work. I made a mistake and trusted Ken's advertisements and guarantee of high quality work. I'm now paying others, for my mistaken trust. Please see the photos. Problems with his work include: Excessive number of gaps; Main trunk separating from main supply; No hanging supports installed on ducts; Placed damper in backwards; Continued profane yelling and arguments between him and his assistant; Failure to clean work areas as most contractors do. Ken's company is probably the most honest HVAC company I have ever done business with. My furnace broke when I was out of town and I called my usual company and they came out and gave me an estimate for $3700!! I checked Angie's list, found Ken called him and for the same unit and Ken installed it for over $1000 less! More importantly, he walked me through a quick bypass over the phone to get the blower unit running and my furnace working until he was able to come out and install a new one the next morning. And...All of that with a massive snow storm looming later that day! Charlie was the guy who came and did the job and he was quick, on-time, knowledgeable, clean and efficient. Ken came out this morning to clean/service my furnace and I AM SO HAPPY I FOUND HIM! It's hard to find honest, hard working, good people like him. He not only took care of the furnace without trying to upsell anything, but also got my humidifier working, changed the batteries in my thermostat, and showed me how to adjust the 1st and 2nd floor dampers that were set wrong from the previous owner. I had done some research in the past on Angie's list and Yelp before my furnace had a major breakdown. So a few months ago, my furnace did breakdown and I was given a $650 estimate to fix the furnace. Unfortunately the useful life of the furnace was only about 6 months as a crack in the heat exchanger was also discovered and the furnace was 23 years old. The local Lake Bluff company that serviced the furnace over the past 15 years suggested I buy a new one and gave me an estimate. I called Ken at KET and he gave me an estimate for the same furnace for $1,000 less. He also came the next day (Saturday) to install it. I would recommend him to anyone. I called KET last week about replacing an old furnace and spoke to Ken. I explained what I was looking for and he went through my options. He wasn't pushy and didn't try to steer me toward an overly expensive option. In fact, he recommended I go with something standard. They came out on Monday, removed the old furnace, installed the new one and cleaned up before they left. I was completely satisfied with the work. Ken went out of his way to recommend the most cost-effective solution and was the most affordable, honest and responsive of the 4 companies I received bids from. He even helped trouble shoot some completely unrelated water heater issue I had and provided recommendations to resolve - no additional cost for his time. Ken is probably the most honest HVAC business person I have ever done business with. I had an issue with my AC on the hottest day of the year so far. It just want turning on. Instead of coming out and charging me a service fee or replacing the unit, Ken had me try a couple of simple cheeks over the phone. It now is working great.
