Curtis and his team came over and installed the AC unit fairly quickly. They were very professional and courteous. Fast forward to a few days ago, my kid decided to throw pieces of chalk down the pipes. I called Herchenbach Mechanical to schedule a time and date that works for me. They will email and text you to confirm your appointment. On the day of your appointment, they will also send you a photo of the technician that will be over. Adam, the technician, was very friendly, knowledgeable, respectful and on time. I told him what happened and he explained what he would need to do to get the chalk out from the pipes. I also scheduled them to clean my AC as well. After Adam finished using the hose from the backyard, everything was neatly put back the way it was. He didn't leave anything out or left a mess. When he was inside the house, he would immediately put on those disposable shoe covers without me having to ask. Herchenbach Mechanical has always provided great, friendly service when I needed them. We have worked with Herchenbach in Gurnee for heating and air conditoning for quite a while with no problems. We called in June to make an appointment for a check of our air conditioning. The wait time was two months! As the system was working, we did not have a problem waiting. On the day of the appointment, the company wanted to come earlier than scheduled. We did not want to change the appointment. When the technician came, he pulled up onto our driveway almost on top of my car. I told him he needed to move it off the driveway. He argued with me but finally did move it. He came up to the house without a mask, even though Hershenbach told us to wear masks ourselves. As he came in, he barked the price of the service call. When we showed him the furnace, this arrogant technician said, "This old filter is black....are you smoking in here?"I had enough of his rudeness and bad attitude and called the office in Gurnee and said we do not want the man sent to our house again. They were apologetic and did offer $10 off the cost of the air check. But they need to handle this employee. He is bad for business. read more

Used them twice, once for servicing the furnace and once for diagnostics. I prefer my business goes to someone local when possible, and that's the reason I used them. Five stars for scheduling, and for transparent pricing ($89 for servicing, and $89 for diagnostics). For servicing, it was a routing call (annual maintenance). However, they do not change filters while servicing a furnace (slight bummer since I was used to getting the filters changed during annual cleaning with my earlier servicer at my previous address). I was willing to overlook that. For diagnostics, I called in because my room was colder (5 degrees) than other rooms in the house. They came in and said that's not unusual because the room is over the garage. I wish they had told me that over the phone instead of coming in and charging $89 for that. That's a very expensive diagnostics. That wasted time, and money. I hope they have better processes in the future. read more

I lost my heater over thanksgiving and had a competitor come look at it. Instead of fixing the $45 part the tech spent an hour trying to sell me $5500 in a new furnace. When I wasn't biting, he started to look for reasons why I needed a new furnace. He than preceded to point out my heat exchanger was cracked and we were all going to die tonight if I didn't buy the new furnace. After asking if I could just replace the heat exchanger, he finally relented and said it was still under warranty. But, wanted $1600 to replace it. Reason for failure on thanksgiving was a simple pressure switch. I called Herchenbach and they came out the next morning and took care of everything for a fraction of the cost. They said my furnace was fine were in and out within 90 minutes. 5 star service and I was impressed enough to sign up for their yearly maintenance plan for both my AC and my Furnace. Nobody tried to upsell me on anything and they were very prompt and professional. I shall recommend them to all my friends in the area. read more

I can't tell you what wonderful service I received today from Herchenbach Mechanical today. I had major surgery a week ago and my husband had not gotten around to looking at the furnace that was quitting about once an hour. The person who answered the phone (very nice) asked if I could wait until Monday (it was now Friday afternoon) and I said yes, but she asked how often it was going off and she found someone who was out in 45 minutes. We have been on their annual maintenance plan and enjoyed excellent service, especially on weekends and winter nights when the furnace circuitry indicated an error code and failed to heat. They also improved the efficiency of the furnace they inherited from another contractor, with clever and cost effective improvements in ductwork and intake/ exhaust pipes. After a quick call, with Matt, I texted a video of the noise/smell my heater was causing an initial analysis (only had to call back since i was putting my 2 year old to bed). We re-connected and his diagnosis was 100% accurate, purely from watching a :15 video. I was able to personally remove the filter (apparently filters can get sucked in - check motor for filter if there's a burning smell / bad noise / vibration occurring with your heater) and fix the problem without needing a professional (savings probably $300). On top of the savings, he saved us a headache! It was 7pm, took only 15 min (clock started from first call), AND the inconvenience of staying with a family friend for the night since it was 10 degrees (2 kids + dog)!
