I was told at that time that I didn't have an actual appointment, I was on standby. Standby? What the heck is standby? Standby means that if they have a cancellation, they would work through their standby list. After some discussion I found out I was 10th on the list. That probably means I would have Service sometime in July or August. I can't believe that they run a company that wouldn't tell me about standby when I booked the appointment. Why would they ask morning or afternoon if they weren't even sure whether they were going to be here. I am a very dissatisfied customer and found another heating and air conditioning service that will be out here tomorrow.

I decided to go with Herchenbach Mechanical after comparing a couple other places in the area. Scheduling an appointment was easy. Curtis and his team came over and installed the AC unit fairly quickly. They were very professional and courteous. Fast forward to a few days ago, my kid decided to throw pieces of chalk down the pipes. I called Herchenbach Mechanical to schedule a time and date that works for me. They will email and text you to confirm your appointment. On the day of your appointment, they will also send you a photo of the technician that will be over. Adam, the technician, was very friendly, knowledgeable, respectful and on time. I told him what happened and he explained what he would need to do to get the chalk out from the pipes. I also scheduled them to clean my AC as well. After Adam finished using the hose from the backyard, everything was neatly put back the way it was. He didn't leave anything out or left a mess. When he was inside the house, he would immediately put on those disposable shoe covers without me having to ask. Herchenbach Mechanical has always provided great, friendly service when I needed them. We thought it might be the thermostat so we bought a Nest thermostat and thought the service man would install it. When he came he checked furnace and thermostat and agreed it was the thermostat that needed replacing. I mentioned we had purchased a Nest and asked if he could install it. He didn't seem to think the Nest was compatible. He said he had thermostats in his truck and brought one in, it was a simple Honeywell thermostat. I asked how much it was going to cost, he said $600.00 for thermostat and install. We said no, too expensive. He charged $173.00 for approx 20-30 minutes of his time. I wrote a check. I called another company and had another serviceman come to give me a quote. He took a quick look at the furnace and thermostat and said "there is nothing wrong with your thermostat, it has not been set up correctly." He made a slight adjustment and lo and behold the thermostat is working perfectly! Nice to know there are still some honest people making an honest living. I will call this company any time and trust what they tell me. One thing I didn't mention earlier was that the furnace and thermostat was working last winter. However this past summer I did have another serviceman from Unique come to check if it would be possible to have a humidifier connected to the furnace. I can't say for sure that he touched the thermostat. He may have changed the setup and left without changing it back? Can't say for sure, but mighty suspicious Since we never mess with the setup. Either way, the serviceman from Unique was either totally incompetent or dishonest and just trying to sell me a thermostat for $600.00. I called the company several times, but they never respond. I will never use them again or refer anyone to them. SM

Since it is too big for my duct work, plus I get to hear loud popping EVERY time it comes on and goes off. I asked Dave to refund me part of my costs since I am having problems. The central air in my condo failed in mid -June, diagnosed as attributable to a leak of the old refrigerant (R-22) at an unknown location between my rooftop compressor and my unit. Two other air conditioning companies tried to sell me a new compressor and other components, with bids of about $10,000 each. Only Beck's did not try to sell me new, expensive equipment. They conducted a thorough investigation and isolated the refrigerant leak on the roof. They repaired the leak, replaced one component that was rusted, flushed out all of the old R-22 refrigerant the length of the line, and replaced it with new refrigerant. Of course, they performed a rigorous performance check to make sure everything was working properly. Total cost about $1,600, less than 1/6 of what Beck's competition wanted to charge me. I have lived in my condo for nearly 5 years, and the air conditioning works better and brings the temperature to my desired setting quicker than ever before. The company is run by two brothers, Alex and Nico Ugolini, who took over the business from their father. He obviously did a great job, because they are great at what they do, always punctual, respectful, and HONEST. (I am not a family member or friend, and never heard of this company until my problem a month ago.)
