What a great experience. Interior design was warm and welcoming. View of the water front. The meal was very tasty and the cajun broth was really flavorful. The owner interacts with the crowd. I was glad we went. One thing that I did not like was that there were not drink prices at the bar, there were not drink menus at the table, and there are not drink menus online. So you have no idea the prices until you get the bill at the end. The cherry pie was mediocre, I would expect something a little more robust from door county. The restaurant lives up to the hype. The owners were great, very fun and friendly, just great people. The Cajun fish boil was great. It's also an excellent location with a beautiful lakeview, and it was nice to have the opportunity to lounge outside with a beverage as the meal was being prepared. Terrible experience. Our Cajun Boil reservation was for 7:30pm (we were told to arrive and check in by 7:15pm which we did), but we did not receive our food until 8:45pm- an hour and 15 minutes later! Typically with boils, guests sit around the boiling pot and the host explains the boil at the reservation time (7:30pm), and typically the host removes the boiled goods after the explanation (about 15 minutes) and guests get seated at their tables as the food is brought to them. The host/owner had many opportunities to explain the delay but did not do so. Guests patiently waited and waited for 1 hour sitting around the pot. I approached the host around 8:15pm to ask why the boil isn't ready and I received some lame excuse about the 5:30pm reservation having been full and that they are behind schedule. The food did not make up for the poor service- it was salty and not flavorful. It I've had Cajun boils before and it's an embarrassment to Southerners to call this a Cajun boil. The cornbread was good. We all make mistakes, but the fact that the hosts did not once acknowledge the significant delay, provide a status update for when we will be served, or express an apology for the delay was quite frustrating. read more

8 of us had dinner tonight and ordered the Cajun fish boil. We had to order our drinks at a small bar by the front door and if we needed more we had to go and get them ourselves. The food was VERY spicy but the corn bread was great. We were charged an additional $16 for a few more pieces. We asked for butter several times but never got any. We were basically ignored all evening but were still charged a 20% service charge. Very disappointing and even when we asked about bill total and lack of service we were told that that is just how they do things there. read more

We went to the Cajun Shrimp Boil and it was amazing and a lot of fun! Highly recommend! Food was so good and the restaurant is super cute!

First, the staff is very polite and attentive, and location is perfect. Then the time taken to demonstrate the fish boil process was so cool. And lastly, every part of the fish boil dinner was excellent. Fish was done perfectly, as were the corn, onions and potatoes. I'm not a big cornbread person and I ate every crumb! The only place we found that had a Cajun boil. Lots of shrimp, some andouille sausage, onions, corn, mushrooms, potatoes all in the best broth you'll ever have and cornbread. (Dip the cornbread into the broth-you'll thank me!) Warm cherry pie for desert and coffee rounded out a wonderful meal. The food was simply amazing and in perfect serving size, though you'll tell yourself "just one more bite". Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Great atmosphere down to the greenery in the vases on the tables. Beer and wine selections to please any palate as well as soft drinks for those who prefer to abstain. Great place with sensibly priced, incredible meals that will leave your belly and wallet thanking you. Treat yourself and just go! read more

If you are tired of the traditional DC Fish Boil, as I am, I recommend trying their Cajun Boil. They alternate nights for fish boil and Cajun boils. We had the Cajun boil on Thursday. The restaurant only opened 4 weeks ago and we had to check it out. It was a fairly slow weeknight. The staff were friendly and attentive. We watched the boil out back as we sipped beer and chatted with the cook - or boiler(?). We both ordered the Cajun boil which came with potatoes, onion, corn, mushrooms, celery, shrimp and andouille sausage. The Cajun spices were just right and provided enough heat without overwhelming the food. The special sauce provided at the table was delicious. I dipped the potatoes in sauce as well as the shrimp - yum. Forgot to mention the tender corn bread which arrived at the table warm before dinner. Knowing that cherry pie was included, and feeling stuffed, I couldn't finish the large portion of potatoes, onion, and corn. My husband helped me finish the sausage. Not quite there. We did the Cajun Boil. It is not really comparable to other boils (fish boils). Yes, it is meant to be different, and we've had low country boils before. This one was ok, but skimpy on the shrimp and sausage. We also found that we were given less corn than others (everyone else was given two half's we were only given one). Also, the chef was trying out a new sauce for people to try on their shrimp, but it was delivered halfway through the meal and the many patrons couldn't get it out of the squeeze container because the hole was too small. It is a new place (a couple weeks old), but they aren't quite up to snuff, especially to charge a premium price of $36 for the boil which is about $10 more than other fish boils (yes they use more expensive shrimp than white fish, but if you only get a few, that doesn't make up for it. Maybe they will improve with time. read more

This should be a MUST STOP for anyone visiting Door County. We wanted something different than the traditional white fish boil. Their Cajun shrimp boil was to die for. The entire evening was an experience -- watching the boil, letting the kids stir the shrimp, fresh cornbread and butter, a huge helping of fresh shrimp, potatoes, corn, andouille sausage and broth that you'll want to bring home and savor for days to come. It's just absolutely lovely. Flavors are perfect. Not too spicy - just flavorful. My kids even ate most of it! Call ahead because they require a reservation! read more

Stopped in for the 7:30pm fish boil. Everything was very thoughtful. As a fisherman and cook myself, the detailed explain of the cooking process and freshness of the ingredients was well appreciated. Using a separate basket for the fish left it beautifully in tact and everyone received the same two cuts of perfectly done fish. Enjoyed the addition of warm cornbread, Spanish onions, and garlic. Cajun spiced sauce provided at the table was delicious - excellent on the potatoes. Coleslaw was a nice mix of red and green cabbage. Staff was very friendly and the ambiance was relaxing. We thought we would try the new choice in dining in Fish Creek. This is a winner. If you like to spice up your food choice & add some great flavor - you won't be disappointed. You also won't go away hungry. We had the lobster & shrimp boil and took away leftovers. Served in a bowl with great tasting broth the shrimp & lobster are accompanied by corn on the cob, mushrooms, andouille sausage, red potatoes, whole small onions, celery and garlic cloves. Also comes with tasty cornbread. And to top it all off - very good cherry pie that you can also have 'a la Mode. Fun to watch the outdoor cooking process with drink in hand. It was off & on rain so the outdoor area was closed for seating. Would be a great place to dine. The indoor space is very well done & tables arranged without crowding. There is even an upstairs with a great view of the bay & good for a larger group of diners. Service is great - friendly people. This place is a must if you're in the DC area! I've been to multiple fish boils in the Door County area and always like the experience but Kettle Black took it to a different level. This place is classier than any fish boil I've ever been to and with an amazing view of the water. They also offer something different in a Cajun boil. It's slightly more pricy than typical fish boils but it's well worth it. This was a great change of pace and was the most delicious dinner I've had this year. The boil master Paul was great and his attention to detail was apparent in every step of the process. The wait staff was great too and Paul's wife Marcella was a pleasure to chat with.
