We had an absolutely amazing experience with Kevel, from beginning to end. They gave us a home energy audit, and we moved forward with a project incorporating some modifications to our system. I give them my highest recommendation! 1) Every person we interfaced with was professional, and helpful, and just nice. 2) Project was timely, and everything worked out as expected and promised. The only minor drawback is that they are good at what they do, and popular, so there was a bit of time waiting to initially get our project in their queue. We recently moved to our new home and had to replace a super old antique furnace. We hired Kevel to completely redo all our ducting and install a new high efficiency furnace. Brian, Jeff, and Eric are a fantastic team! They installed the furnace, installed all the ducts, put in a brand new smart thermostat, sealed our registers, and adjusted all of the air flow for each room of our house. They also took care to seal some old asbestos tape that we had inside our very old floor registers, ensuring that our new system was safe to use. On top of that, they took care of all the work needed to get us a nice California Energy Upgrade rebate for our new system. They finished all of this in under one week! All the 5-star reviews are right. Jeff, Brian and John are amazing. They are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, prompt, detail-oriented and professional. We had sky-high energy bills, and parts of the house were colder than others. From the very first phone call with Brian, I was impressed by Kevel. Brian asked very detailed questions, ranging from the temperature in different parts of the house to the humidity levels to the type of HVAC and kitchen ventilation systems we had. From that 45-minute call alone, he already gave preliminary, cost-free recommendations we could implement to help our situation. I scheduled the energy audit, and Brian and Jeff came over exactly on time and spent the day meticulously measuring and inspecting every aspect of our house. When they were finished, they gave me a quick overview of what they'd found, including some more pointers for ways I could drastically increase energy efficiency in our house at no cost (they also gave me a quick tutorial on my air filter/HVAC system, which I hadn't fully understood). A few days later, they emailed me a detailed report of their energy audit findings, and a list of proposed solutions. I had known from the get-go that I was going to hire Kevel to upgrade our home, so I was happy to see what they had pinpointed. Brian set up another call to go through their report, and we agreed to have them start work. The work on the house took a week. Jeff and John were both extremely smart, hard-working, and trustworthy. They even helped us fix our Nest thermostat (which hadn't been getting enough electricity from the existing wiring) and install the Nest smoke detectors we'd bought but hadn't gotten around to putting up. When they finished the project, they ran more tests, making sure to balance the air flow to parts of the house that needed it more. They did another energy audit test, too, and the house passed with flying colors. We noticed a difference in our comfort levels and energy bills immediately. Jeff followed up several times to make sure everything was working well. He also wrote up a detailed Improvement Summary. Kevel also took care of all the rebate paperwork that we were eligible for due to the energy upgrades. Jeff even checked up with the agency to make sure our rebate was being processed swiftly. This past fall we moved into a victorian flat on a busy street... We had no idea how loud it could be on a daily basis! You are not going to find a better, more meticulous and professional team than Jeff and the gang at Kevel. We had bad energy leakage and balance issues in our house which led to huge energy bills in the winter. Right from the beginning, Jeff and Brian were communicative and thorough, first doing a full audit of the home to determine where the improvements could be made effectively, and then presenting a very well put together proposal with different price points for us to consider. The information given covers every aspect you'd want to know about, from estimated energy savings, to safety issues (in our case we had some asbestos removal), to recommended courses of action for maximum rebates from the government. They were also very open and responsive to the few significant concerns we had along the way. We were concerned about a few details in the asbestos removal portion of the project. Jeff did an excellent job listening to our concerns and acting to change the proposal in a way that really made us feel better about it. Pricing also I thought was very fair. And, the results in the end speak for themselves. Our energy bill plummeted compared to the same time period in previous years, and we can feel the difference in warmth in our 2 year old's room. I was such a skeptic but the guys at Kevel took extra time to walk me through the findings of our house evaluation and their recommendations. We had a super drafty house with colder rooms (one room being our nursery) and a relic of a furnace! Kevel performed an energy audit and then installed a new HVAC system at our home, including sealing the ducts, and making our old house much more comfortable with stable temperatures. Before their work, in the winter the inside temperatures would drop as soon as the heater turned off. Now we don't have the temperature swings. Also, as others have said their service is also top notch. They clearly explained everything along the way. We casually mentioned we were interested in registers and grilles that matched our late 1930's home and they sourced the perfect products. After an initial review of our drafty Victorian, they provided a menu of options to improve the comfort and air quality in the home. They were responsive, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. In September, we moved into an apartment on a busy/loud street in San Francisco. While it's very convenient, the noise level through the old single-paned windows have caused the last few tenants to vacate the property after only a year. For awhile, we were sure we wouldn't last more then the minimum required by our lease either. Then, came Kevel Home Performance. The Indow Windows they installed for us dramatically reduced the noise level by at least 70%. While we can still hear some of the hum of the MUNI, it no longer keeps us up at night. Whereas we used to hear it every 5-7 minutes, now we only seldom notice the sound. While we are really happy with the final product, what makes me give Kevel Home the 5th star is the service. We spent most of our time talking with John, who was fantastic. He is quick, reliable, and communicated with us throughout the entire process. Since I work pretty long hours, he and the team were more then willing to work around my schedule and even come after dinner to do the final installation. This is such an amazing benefit in a world where you often have to take a half day off and wait for a vendor to show up sometime in a 4-5 hour window. Best contractors I've ever worked with, hands-down. In addition to the energy audit, we had these guys install a whole-house fan for us, and then re-do our furnace and duct work as well as do shell-sealing and insulation. At every step of the way, they were clear about their schedule and kept all their appointments. They were always easy to reach by email and phone, and promptly answered questions and handled any changes we requested. They provided reasonable estimates and timelines and completed all their work on time. Over the course of our project, we worked with both Brian and Jeff as well as their associate Erik (their other partner had relocated to a different part of the country) -- they were all equally friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Everything they do, they do well and thoroughly. Even when doing something small like replacing the weatherstripping on the front door, Brian took the time to scrape off a lot of old crud around the jamb so our door actually opens much more smoothly and quietly than it did before! Our home is now not only heated more efficiently, but also much more evenly, so our kids' room is now easy to keep at the same temperature as the rest of the house. Also, the whole-house fan is an absolute dream on the mid-peninsula, and is keeping our house much more comfortable in the evenings, now that the weather is heating up again. These guys were so great to work with that I've tried to think of other projects our house could use that they could handle. Unfortunately until we decide to replace our hot water heater, I think we've taken advantage of pretty much all their services. read more

TL;DR: These are some of the best in San Francisco. I even hit them up for other types of contractor recommendations. I can't believe the quality of work that they did for me, and am incredibly relieved to have chosen them to do the work. I got a 95% efficient furnace and heated a 1350 sqft 1916 condo at 70 deg F through December for ~$150 total with no added insulation. I am amazed! These guys are exceptional! I had been putting off installing forced air heating for a few years because every time the top 3 companies came to give quotes, they acted like it wasn't a big deal and gave me boilerplate responses. I had an uneasy feeling about their plans and didn't trust them. A coworker brought up Kevel and I decided to give them a try. The initial walkthrough took 3x longer than the other companies. This is because they are extremely thorough. They figured out different ways to accommodate our building and did some rough planning to make sure it would all work out. We discussed needs and locations. They didn't feel hurried at all and were very interested in the quality of their work. They're familiar with modern technology, so when there were questions about unexpected things in the building (100 year old building with strange history), they were quick to contact and text me pictures to get my opinion. They did a full Infrared leak detection for me as well and pointed out areas of the house that were leaking cold air which would end up costing me extra for no reason, and sent that along with detailed photos in a PDF for my future reference. I'd trust these guys to do anything for me. They are intelligent, polite, professional, and are always trying to do the right thing for everyone involved. I couldn't be a happier customer. From start to finish, my experience with Kevel Home Performance could not possibly have been better. All I knew was, my house was unbearably hot. I wasn't sure where to begin, so after reading their positive Yelp reviews, I sent an e-mail to Kevel asking about the price of a home energy audit. Brian responded immediately, and was extremely patient through my many questions over many e-mails. He was also completely understanding of my budgetary restrictions. Ultimately we decided a whole house fan could greatly increase my comfort level. On installation day, Brian and John showed up on time, were very professional, explained every step of the process, and left not a speck of dirt behind. When I got home hours after I had the fan installed, it was 85 in my house. I fired up my new AirScape, felt comfortable within minutes, and by bedtime the indoor temp had dropped to 72. This review is long overdue - sorry guys! Jeff, Eric and Brian were just fabulous from beginning to end: explaining what they would do, how they would do it, the time involved, the process - everything. Their customer service doesn't get much better. These are guys who you want to stick around afterwards and have beers with, perhaps invite to your wedding, really. Did I mention the refund they helped me get? Much more than they initially thought - and in that way that describes how they work: under-promise and over-deliver, although it's not like what they promised fell short of any expectations either, but you get the point. So on to the work: First. I got a full education on home efficiency, no additional question was ever too much They had no problem with me walking around with them and watching what they were doing and asking questions - not out of suspicion but out of sheer curiosity.. It started with the home audit, finding leaks, assessing all HVAC stuff, and figuring out what work would be needed.The goal was to get from where I was (inefficient, lots of leaks and a heater that worked overtime to get my house warm) to near-optimal efficiency. First they did the audit (as many others have said, was really cool), they drew up a work proposal, outlined clearly what the estimated refund would be, and how long it would take to get everything done. And then after work was done, complete another audit to show the before and after effect. This increase in energy efficiency would be the grounds for a refund from PG&E. All the work was done on-time and the communication was great through-out. Jeff really went the extra mile to document what was done, still needed to be done, and when the work would be done. And when the refund would come! In addition to plugging leaks, replacing some duct/removing asbestos, and fine-tuning the airflow, we had insulation blown in to the exterior walls - not exactly a tidy process. BUT, and this was the amazing part, when I cam back later that day, there was not a trace of anything to show that a crew of guys had blown in messy insulation into the walls. Nothing! Gone are the days when work gets done but your house is left looking like a war zone.Everything was meticulous. And so in the end the refund ended up higher than initially anticipated. All told I got back about 50% of the upfront cost, plus a warmer house and lower hearing bills! Don't hesitate - hire these guys, you'll be happy you did! read more

We have a 150 year-old victorian condo and the windows are somewhat newer, but the house was not sealed completely. Brian and his team came in and did a leak test, went above and beyond to seal the building envelope as much as they can, and installed Indows. The energy performance enhanced drastically and the room that has the most leakage problem is now a comfortable room to sleep in.
