I hired this company to do the work on my house that was recommended in a home energy assessment completed last year. Initially Alex Minaboo, the owner, came to look the job over and in that visit recommended replacing all the heating ducts in the house. He tried to sell me a heat pump system which I did not want to do since the existing furnace is only three years old. There was nothing in the home energy assessment report indicating I needed to replace the furnace or the ducts. A few weeks later, the foreman (I think that is his role) came by to assess the job, and said he did not think the ducts needed to be replaced as they were still quite new. I opted to not replace the ducts but to proceed with the air sealing of the heating system that was recommended in the home energy assessment. Alex later said the air sealing could cause a problem for the furnace, which he said was too large for this size house. He suggested that adding an additional heat register might mitigate a potential problem with rapid cycling, and I opted to do this. In the course of All Things Good sealing the heating ducts and adding the new register, the blower on the furnace stopped working. Alex deflected and denied responsibility for his company causing the problem, disparaged another company that had installed the furnace, and argued that his company could not be held responsible for damages when something breaks in an old house while they are working on it, referring me to a clause in their contract. To fix the furnace, All Things Good charged $1200.00 in labor costs (for a job that took no more than 2 hours on site) and the blower was about $700 more). I have always thought "if you break it, you fix it" and I was floored by how this was being handled, but since I do not know HVAC systems and could not in good conscience argue that I was certain the breakdown was caused by their work, I proposed we split the bill for fixing the furnace. My offer was refused. Alex then had the gall to argue he was already giving me a discount on labor costs, and threatened that if I did not pay he would put a lien on my house. I paid the bill because it was not worth my time to fight with All Things Good. I see a number of positive reviews here and at least one that is like mine. My experience was very unsatisfactory and I will certainly never use this company again. read more

I used All Things Good to replace my gas water heater with a heat pump water heater. I highly recommend them. The team was professional and fast and they went above and beyond in explaining the water heater and the app. They even installed a new light in my basement so they could complete the work, which is helpful to me as well. And then they came back and installed some additional insulation to mute the water heater noise. This company told me they could put in a heat pump water heater before the end of the calendar year, so I signed a contract with them in order to get it done before the federal tax credits expired. And then it turned out that they were much busier than they said they were and they encouraged me to just do the project in January and commit tax fraud and say I had done it in December. When I finally got them to agree to an end of December date, it then turned out that they didn't have the permit in time. So then they encouraged me to break the law and let them start to work without a permit. When I said I didn't want to do anything illegal and I didn't want to proceed if it was then going to cost thousands of extra dollars because they couldn't get it done when they said they would, they then terminated the contract and said they were going to send me a bill for $800 and sue me if I didn't pay I did not have a great experience with this company read more

Ricki and his team at all things good did a great job on our house. They worked on insulation removal and installation and air draft sealing in our attic and crawlspace. They also installed a new heat pump and upgraded our ducts. The team was punctual, professional, and skilled. Toward the end of the project we had a couple of unanticipated requests and they were accommodating and so easy to work with. We worked with AllThingsGood to get our furnace replaced with a heat pump and to make other energy improvements, like insulation and new ducts. We love our new heating and air conditioning system. I worked with All Things Good recently and had an excellent experience. I had a wall gas heater removed and an electric heat pump with two mini-splits installed. Things went well from start to finish. First, Casey came out for the initial evaluation and proposal. He was knowledgeable, helpful and his communication afterwards was prompt. He recommended adding in insulation which I have noticed has made a big difference already in maintaining the temperature inside my home. He also informed me that I would be eligible for a GoGreen home loan to help finance the project which was a big help. Next, Ricky, the lead on the installation team was also very communicative. He kept me informed about the timing of the project. The install team was friendly and worked quickly. Ricky also helped me afterwards with the warranty. Alex, the owner of the company, walked me through the GoGreen application and gave the supporting documentation to the loan company for that. He was communicative and very helpful in that regard. Lastly, Stacie who works in the office, drove out to my house today to be sure that the rebate forms are in order to qualify me for the rebate. I was so appreciative that she took the time to do that. All in all, I felt that this was one of those rare companies that treats you like they would treat a family member. The price they gave me was the same as another Bay Area company, but the service, the help with the GoGreen loan and the help with the rebate made them stand out. We chose them because: 1) they take a comprehensive approach to energy, safety and home comfort, and 2) they had a far more sophisticated understanding than other bidders of the evolving state of technology when recommending which equipment and work to do to maximize long term benefits. I recommend them strongly because: 1) our experience working with them was awesome, and 2) I love the system they designed for us. EVERY. DAY. They are a local, specialized outfit with incredibly responsive partners and intelligent, hard-working staff you will get to know personally. They do everything themselves or with a first tier of subs they have long term relationships with. Given the nightmare stories I've heard from friends about other contractors, I felt quite fortunate and relieved at the excellent service we continue to receive. On their advice, we bundled multiple projects including solar, attic insulation, air sealing, and LED lights. We opted for an electric heat pump (ditching an ancient inefficient gas furnace), so we got AC and an excellent filtration system, something we've been **really** appreciating with the recent air quality nightmare!!! I waited to write this review until the evidence started rolling in: Our energy draw from the grid is down to 1/10 of what it used to be, and 64% less than similar "energy efficient" houses. Our November bill is $275 under our last November last year. Our solar panels and space-station like utility room are the envy of every house guest. The team competently navigated a tricky old home while sticking close to their original estimate. I'm thrilled to have a modern heat pump for heating, cooling, and air filtration. The East Bay increasingly suffers from high temperatures and smoky conditions, and All Things Good did an excellent job installing our ducted Mitsubishi system along with new ducts and some air sealing. Compared to others, I felt Alex is significantly more comfortable applying modern building science principles to an older home. That plus an attractive bid made it a no-brainer. My experience with All Things Good was excellent. When researching options and getting quotes, they were the fastest responding, always polite and informative, and flexible. Alex took care of the inspection and testing efficiently, and didn't mind answering my questions throughout. The report was extremely thorough yet easy to understand. Their quote was very reasonable. Although it wasn't the lowest, they are partnered with PG&E, guaranteed a rebate from PG&E, which made their price favorable. On top of this, they took care of the application process for further rebates from the state. While they estimated this rebate to be about $1500 (although it was noted to be a conservative estimate as mileage may vary), it was more than double this. Obviously, this offset the cost greatly, and no paperwork headache for me! The work was done extremely quickly. Gaps were caulked, insulation was blown into the attic, and more added in the crawlspace. Everything was done either on time or ahead of schedule on the two days they promised. The workers were friendly and left no mess behind. If anything it was cleaner after they came than before! read more

We hired All Things Good to insulate our walls and attic and redo the ducting system to make it more efficient. Insulating the attic also meant they had to raise and move our furnace which is in the attic. They did a good job on all these projects. Alex and Moe explained things clearly and answered all our questions patiently and honestly. The crew was very professional and courteous. They always showed up on time and always left the place spotless after each day's work, which is impressive considering how much dust is generated when you start drilling holes in plaster walls. They charged us exactly what they said they would, and reduced the total when they discovered that certain walls were already insulated. Our house has definitely felt warmer and quieter since the work was done. We did the work in the spring so we won't really know the full impact on our heating bills for a while but we had a couple unseasonably rainy, chilly days just recently and we didn't have to turn the heat on like we normally would have, so that's a very good sign. We had only two complaints: 1 - sometimes communications with them were a bit uneven, with emails having to be sent twice and things like that, but nothing major. And 2 - they weren't very helpful when it came to refinishing the walls to get them back to their original state (i.e. mudded, sanded, painted). They didn't seem very interested in quoting or doing that work and suggested we hire a contractor ourselves to do that after they were all done with the insulation work. That's what we did, and it was a pain in the butt. It extended the total duration of the project and the total time that our house was in dissarray. It would have been much better for All Things Good to take on that part of the work and do it at the same time a everything else. So if you use them, I suggest you push for that. But overall we highly recommend these guys, they are a solid team that deals honestly and does good work. read more

Alex from All Things Good was one of the speakers at a city of Richmond event about the BayRen program, a program that offers reimbursements for some of the cost of home energy upgrades. He seemed very knowledgeable, competent, and passionate about making older homes livable and more energy efficient, so we hired All Things Good to do an energy upgrade for our house. They were great! They performed the whole process (assessment, installation, and final paperwork) excellently and quickly. They installed insulation in our attic and under our floors and sealed up all the warm air leaks. The labor only took a few days. We found them to be very flexible. For instance, they were willing to build a small hatch in our pantry to keep our cats out of the newly insulated attic and to bring in a roofer to properly vent our bathroom fan. Also, last week we found that some of our underfloor insulation was sagging (fairly normal, it takes a little while to settle in), and they sent someone by right away to prop it back up. In addition to doing the work, they also take care of all the paperwork you need for your reimbursement. I also liked that they were willing to conduct most of their communication by email, which was very convenient. I would highly recommend All Things Good for your home energy upgrade. read more

From the very beginning, Alex was courteous, knowledgeable and honest with his estimates and timelines providing quality suggestions that were cost-effective AND efficient. My wife and I tasked his team with many upgrades to our small craftsman home including new exterior windows, ceiling and floor insulation, chimney removal, electrical wiring, and wall removal. While the electrical work was subcontracted to a seperate company, everything else was handled by Alex and his crew with precision, care and came in under budget on most of the projects!
