I really wanted to like this place and had been going for several years, until... they just weren't…read moreable to help me any further, and I did not want to be left with inadequately corrected vision that was affecting daily life, work, and driving. A couple years ago, they did not quite get the prescription right and it had to be adjusted a few times. Although still a little fuzzy, I decided I could live with it. Fast forward a year and a half, the lack of clarity was becoming more problematic. During my most recent visit, they did not want to make any changes, and actually wanted to send me home with a reduced prescription. I decided to just try to deal with it for a couple weeks, but my uncorrected vision was becoming problematic. When I brought up my concerns, the response was disappointing. They did not answer the question, their response did not make sense, and it was essentially dismissive. Heartbreak. Of course, they have a right to stand by their own professional opinion, and think they have the best intentions. After a month of dealing with inadequate vision after my appt with them, and realizing they did not want to provide any help or timely improvements, I ended up paying out of pocket to go see another eye doctor for a second opinion. In this way, I feel like they "stole" my annual eye exam that I get through vision insurance every year. After this experience, a friend who had gone there because I went there, related that they had some difficulties with this place as well. My friend requires glasses with a slight prescription for occupational reasons. While the doctor was very personable, and found need for slight correction, they were reluctant to do a glasses prescription. (One of the main reasons for going to the eye doctor, right?) After some insistence, my friend finally got set up with glasses, that they even paid good money for to get through this place's optical center. The bad experiences with this place are a shame because they seem personable enough, location is good, beautiful office - but, after giving them several chances, some of the things they do don't make any sense and, at the end of the day, what really matters is lacking.

Our wonderful regular eye doctor saw…read morehim at 8:00 pm that evening, and set up a Saturday morning appointment with Colorado Retina Associates (Denver office) for pre surgery testing. That went well. Everything was well explained. From there he got a Monday morning surgery appointment. Dr. Zhang did a great job. My husband had lots of concerns and questions and Dr. and nurse Chris were very thorough in their explanations. It's been about a month and his vision is pretty much back to normal except for the effects of the oil bubble (vs typical air bubble because we live above 8000') which will be removed in a few months when they're sure eye is completely healed. Our regular eye doctor has looked at Richard's eye and is very impressed with how well it's healing. We're grateful he saw Richard on a Friday night and set him up with Dr Zhang for surgery. Would definitely recommend to anyone with a similar need. They are a very busy practice, but are very well organized, pleasant, professional and caring.

Next day bandage comes off and I can't see. After 1.5 months of repeated test, scans, and imaging at different offices he tells me " you woke during surgery and this is my fault". Two weeks later and more test and images at different office he tells me "he isn't sure what is wrong and can't help", but hey the eye I can't see out of is healthy... If you are reading this and this is your surgeon. I hope you aren't told almost two month later how while you were sedated and in their care you did something that lost you your vision! Good Luck!

Turns out that our insurance was "out of network" and did not cover the exam or eyewear. We were billed $403 for the exam. Not a very ethical business in my opinion.

Questionable/shady billing practices and bad record keeping…read more My family had met the out of pocket maximum on our medical insurance. I had already sent a child and gone myself to appointments (annual for the child with glasses, my following up on a now long term concussion) and insurance covered those appointments. I had no reason to believe that annual, regular (preventative) exams would not be covered. (I had believed that it would be part of our medical, not having used this under our current insurance before -- our plan with Kaiser included annual optometrist checks -- and Dr. Nunn was listed as an in network medical provider on the insurance page with no notations for how that would be covered despite my being logged in AND we had met our family out of pocket maximum). They have paperwork with a variety of clauses but it was verbally altered to include that the regular exam may not have inclusion of all the tests they use. I figured even $50 for additional testing they believe necessary might be okay since I otherwise should have no liability. In addition, when I walked in for the first set of appointments (2 children each date, one week apart), I was told they couldn't confirm my insurance so I actually called member services, confirmed they were in network and that the standard exam should be covered -- I noted what it was for and my expectations -- and then put the receptionist in touch with the insurance company. (Did I mention I sent the insurance information to them ahead of the appointments?) Fast forward 3 weeks and I get a bill for over $500 for the first 2 appointments. Now, here is the problem: The receptionists did not have the knowledge to answer my insurance coverage questions, and instead just rushed me to add my initials to the several disclaimers on their paperwork. When I asked about the refraction exam disclaimer (which notes that some insurances do not cover it) , they simply said "that might not be covered." (I took that specific risk but the clause that insurance may not cover standard exam seemed extraneous based on the phone call to member services and sending the info along to reception.) As I continued to fill the paperwork, I did everything, and then proceeded with the routine exams. The exams seemed fine, Dr. Nunn seemed mostly good (she had missed something on my exam but a specialist caught it so maybe it was just an unusual catch for low level reading glasses adjustment -- huge for my concussion related migraines but not necessarily super regular need). Now, however, her billing representative told me that since there are so many insurance plans they can't possibly know ahead of time if there is coverage. This ignores that they had previously billed the same insurance for myself and one of my other children (prior to our meeting our deductible and out of pocket max) and they had those accounts to guide at least some knowledge of the plan. They also have an electronic system to connect to my insurer and could have checked before the day of service. I have now paid over $1000 for four appointments. Her biller left me a message that if there were symptoms like headaches, that could change the insurance coverage. First, one of my kids did note that several times so they didn't make proper notes that day and second, this seems to be asking me to note symptoms after the fact to deal with their incompetence with the insurance (and someone less scrupulous may have made something up and participated in insurance fraud). The total bill was over $200 more, by the way, than the private pay cost that I was offered (at the same time I was asked about symptoms in a voicemail that I have retained) which was revoked with no notice.  The office may look fancy but their billing and record keeping practices (in my experience) are a real question.
