Both Dr. Rohr and Kennedy were amazing to work with. Prompt service, friendly staff and very professional.

I had already sent a child and gone myself to appointments (annual for the child with glasses, my following up on a now long term concussion) and insurance covered those appointments. I had no reason to believe that annual, regular (preventative) exams would not be covered. (I had believed that it would be part of our medical, not having used this under our current insurance before -- our plan with Kaiser included annual optometrist checks -- and Dr. Nunn was listed as an in network medical provider on the insurance page with no notations for how that would be covered despite my being logged in AND we had met our family out of pocket maximum). They have paperwork with a variety of clauses but it was verbally altered to include that the regular exam may not have inclusion of all the tests they use. I figured even $50 for additional testing they believe necessary might be okay since I otherwise should have no liability. In addition, when I walked in for the first set of appointments (2 children each date, one week apart), I was told they couldn't confirm my insurance so I actually called member services, confirmed they were in network and that the standard exam should be covered -- I noted what it was for and my expectations -- and then put the receptionist in touch with the insurance company. (Did I mention I sent the insurance information to them ahead of the appointments?) Fast forward 3 weeks and I get a bill for over $500 for the first 2 appointments. Now, here is the problem: The receptionists did not have the knowledge to answer my insurance coverage questions, and instead just rushed me to add my initials to the several disclaimers on their paperwork. When I asked about the refraction exam disclaimer (which notes that some insurances do not cover it) , they simply said "that might not be covered." (I took that specific risk but the clause that insurance may not cover standard exam seemed extraneous based on the phone call to member services and sending the info along to reception.) As I continued to fill the paperwork, I did everything, and then proceeded with the routine exams. The exams seemed fine, Dr. Nunn seemed mostly good (she had missed something on my exam but a specialist caught it so maybe it was just an unusual catch for low level reading glasses adjustment -- huge for my concussion related migraines but not necessarily super regular need). Now, however, her billing representative told me that since there are so many insurance plans they can't possibly know ahead of time if there is coverage. This ignores that they had previously billed the same insurance for myself and one of my other children (prior to our meeting our deductible and out of pocket max) and they had those accounts to guide at least some knowledge of the plan. They also have an electronic system to connect to my insurer and could have checked before the day of service. I have now paid over $1000 for four appointments. Her biller left me a message that if there were symptoms like headaches, that could change the insurance coverage. First, one of my kids did note that several times so they didn't make proper notes that day and second, this seems to be asking me to note symptoms after the fact to deal with their incompetence with the insurance (and someone less scrupulous may have made something up and participated in insurance fraud). The total bill was over $200 more, by the way, than the private pay cost that I was offered (at the same time I was asked about symptoms in a voicemail that I have retained) which was revoked with no notice.  The office may look fancy but their billing and record keeping practices (in my experience) are a real question.

On the other hand, there is a staff member there that can be very rude and passive aggressively judgmental with any option you choose that is not hers. At first, she comes off helpful, then she starts judging you and your choice of frames. To say the least, I felt belittled and not treated with respect. I normally don't go out of my way to submit bad reviews, but I wanted to share my experience to hopefully brace any future or existence customers that go to Carbon Valley Eye Care. It's unfortunate that that one experience is making me contemplate taking my business elsewhere. My suggestion as someone who has worked in customer service for 12 years, it might be a good idea to have some sort of frequent customer service training (there are plenty of online trainings that don't cost much and would really help staff make customers feel respected and welcomed) it's such a simple skill that unfortunately for some has to be learned.

I do highly recommend them both however I cannot say the same for the office staff or the lab that makes their lenses. The glasses I purchased were loaded with all the extras (anti-glare, anti-scratch, polycarbonate, photo sun, etc.) however within a year I noticed that the lenses seemed cloudy and no amount of cleaning made it better. I took them to the office and they replaced the lenses under a 2 year warranty. Thought everything was good. Unfortunately when I went back to replace them again for the same issue (called crazing) I was told that they couldn't honor the warranty on the replacement lenses as the warranty only covered the first pair! Worse yet, the woman I spoke with insisted that the only way that this would occur is if I left them in extreme heat which I had not. It didn't matter, she insisted that "everybody does this when they take them off and leave them on the dash" (something that I never do!). It didn't matter, she was convinced that the issue was mine and only due to my leaving them in a high temp environment - couldn't be anything else! Interestingly my record showed these lenses being replaced twice for this issue and somehow I don't have any recollection of that. I suspect that it really is a quality issue with the lab that this office uses as I purchased a different set of glasses from an eye doctor in Firestone (scheduling issue trying to get in with CV Eye Care) and haven't had any issues with crazing of the lenses for that pair. My wife recently took her glasses back to CV Eye Care for the same reason (first time) and they replaced the lenses without any issue (she spoke with someone else). The lack of customer service from this woman and the real possibility that they are using an inferior lab for their lenses makes it clear to me that I should take my business elsewhere.

At this facility alone, I've seen three different Opthamologists. Every single one has been brilliantly versed in their eye care knowledge. The front office and glassware staff are equally as great at their roles! We've never had an issue getting an appointment -- even an emergency appointment. I've asked if they're able to compare my current glasses to the new RX to see if I truly need to spend the hundreds of dollars for two new pairs. The person who answers emails - their Lead Patient Coordinator - only answers with "please see attached" and has yet to reply or give any info re: my actual questions, she just keeps sending the RX sheet. I'm not an ophthalmologist, clearly, and don't know how to read those prescriptions and so am kind of stuck. I had a great exam but am not able to move forward to get the glasses that I need - so a total waste of both time and money to go to this practice.
