I've been using Clarity Eye Care in the Thornton Costco since 2021 when they fit me into their tight schedule to evaluate a burst blood vessel in one eye. They made a spot for me on short notice and recommended a specialist for treatment. Now that that has stabilized, I've continued using them for basic eye exams and have been impressed with the quality of care at every visit. The staff is always friendly, knowledgable and professional. While there are optometrists closer to home, I'll continue to trust Clarity Eye Care. They are the best I've found! read more

I had a very good experience. I was able to make an appointment on the day I wanted, quick too. Didn't have to wait at all. I made another appointment for a different optometrist last week was cancelled due to the blizzard. I had to have two appointments. One on Wednesday for the exam then return on Thursday for the contact lenses. I was able to do it all during one visit at Dr Gunderson's office. The office is a bit small but Costco isn't going to give up any more precious floor space than they have to. I thought it was weird to make an eye doctor appointment at a Costco but it turned out to be one of the best appointments I've had at an optometrist. Doesn't seem like they are able to bill a lot of insurance plans. My insurance approved them but they can't bill my insurance. No real big deal as the whole appointment for contact lenses including the retinal photo was only $149. I'll submit for reimbursement. Although it was a very quick appointment, I did not feel rushed. Everything was explained to me and was thoroughly impressed. Anyone who has a hesitation, like I did, about not going to a "real doctor office", should feel at ease. read more

Wow. Finally a decent eye exam after thirty-something years. Ok, I'll admit it. I found this place doing a Google search for eye doctors since I recently moved here to Colorado. I was impressed with the website and took a while to read about practice and liked what I read. The kicker was that the doctor's practice is not afraid of technology - you can even make your first appointment online and interface directly with their appointment system. So I arrive for my first appointment (after filling out and completing an Adobe fill-in questionnaire at home and bringing it with me) and I am very impressed with the new facility. Upon checking in I thought I would be seeing Mary Anne since that is what the appointment system stated. It turns out all appointments booked on line have her name but I am told I will be seeing Dr. Gunderson. Okay. I had no more than a 10 minute wait (but as noted on previous reviews for the other doctors in this practice the intake was about 10 minutes behind schedule and no one came out to tell me.) Waiting area is comfortable even if the chairs were a bit too squishy. No TV but plenty of magazines and there was a kids area off to the side with some books. To get to this waiting area (of course) you have to go through the eyewear boutique. There was no hard sell and I was able to browse but I just found that funny and ironic, if not practical. I was greeted by a very friendly assistant and given the pre-exam workups. Tests for peripheral vision and I opted for the up sell detailed eye photo (OptoMap Scan - additional $39 - nice that they have done away with dilations in most cases and now use this). I wish I remembered my assistant's name because she really is what made my visit so great. Friendly, fluent in conversation, and just pleasant to be with. In addition there was a refraction exam which was $30. Finally I was lead into the exam room. Some basic exams to check for near and farsighted-ness from the assistant as well as a check for color blindness (I passed!) and I only had a 10 minute wait for the doctor. Dr. Gunerson is relatively new to Colorado and new to the practice. Overall it was a very pleasant and quick and professional exam. There was a push to get some kind of cornea shaping contact lens so that I would not have to wear glasses during the day. I passed and was never bothered again. The doctor was willing to go over my exam results (which one is better 1 or 2, etc) and was also easy going and easy to speak with. I was very impressed with the doctor and how he provided information and made me a part of my eye care health. The doctor even had his assistant email me some videos on some of my concerns and instead of just leaving the office at the end for an assistant to come in and finish up he actually walked me outside and explained the eyedrops he recommended for my dry eyes and gave me a sample. Even the checkout at the end was quick and painless. For a very thorough eye exam and no vision insurance I paid $169 and felt I got my money's worth. There was no push to buy eyewear other than asking if I was going to purchase some at the end. I initially said no and I was not pushed to buy. Judy, the dispensary person for the optical shop, was another great employee and while she helped me pick some frames she never hard sold me or pressured me to buy glasses. Because she focused on me and my needs first and did not pressure, I ended up picking up some new glasses. Overall, I highly recommend this doctor and this practice. A real eye exam is so much more through than the half-assed exams given at the places in the mall that sell glasses. Go ahead, and treat yourself. I can definitely see myself coming back here again and look forward to making this my regular eye doctor. Thanks for a great experience. read more

After further conversation with the doctor I'd like to say that he is very willing to make things right. He treated me with respect and an understanding of my situation that removed the very bad impression that I had previously. Yes, their method is quick and efficient, but that may be what others are actually looking for. It's not for me, but that doesn't mean that it is not for everyone. I honestly did not want to give a one star review, unfortunately it was the only way to write a review. Dr Gunderson refused to reimburse me for his Optometrist and office personel's errors. I was having ongoing headaches and blurred vision and twice the turned me away saying give it two more weeks. I had to seek medical advice from my physician who sent me for a Brain MRI showing negative results then an Optometrist of his reference. Turned out my RX was completely off. I suggest you seek out a different, or should I say Professional and Reputable Optometrist as Dr Gunderson will not back up his practice or polcy read more

My husband and I went to his office in the Costco today. My husband had an eye appt. and said Dr. Gunderson was very thorough. He went to Berkeley for his OD degree. It is always good to know where your doctor has received his degree. The office is very efficient. It is a small office but quiet considering it was in the Costco. It is $69 for a regular eye exam which includes dilation of your eyes. There is a small waiting area inside the office. read more

Saw Dr Gunderson today for a routine exam. He was very thorough and answered virtually all my questions before I even asked them. I liked him and he went over all my test results in a way that I understood. His equipment was up to date and he has a machine that takes pictures of the inside of your eye so you don't have to have them dilated. That is an extra $30.00 but considering the total for the exam including that option is $99.00 it seems very reasonable to me. I got an appointment within a couple days from my call and his assistant was very accommodating when I needed to change the appointment. She also was very nice and explained everything as she did it. We booked online and received confirmation via text message. When we were at the eye doctor office, we were told that the doctor was not available and also fully booked on that day. A bad day usually starts with this kind of doctor office. Will never go there again. It happens that everybody makes mistake. What really disappointed me is that they let customer take the consequence of their mistake by simply saying "I'm sorry" rather than doing anything to help to mitigate the pain. He gave me a second opinion on a prescription from my long-standing optometrist, and then he demonstrated how the corrections he made would relieve the disorienting feeling I'd been getting from the other doctor's prescription. I had my annual eye exam with Dr. Gunderson today and I found him to be very thorough and knowledgeable, and he also took the time to explain everything (especially the images of the inside of my eyes) very thoroughly. The OptoMap machine was a great alternative to having my eyes dilated (it does cost an additional $30 but well worth it IMO). i would definitely recommend Dr. Gunderson to anyone looking for an optometrist. read more

After seeing this office for 3 years, it is time to find a new eye doctor. Their front office is in total disarray. I have show up to scheduled appointments, only to be told the wait is over 90 minutes. I have made appointments on-line, got an email confirmation, left a voice mail to confirm and then told that our appointment was somehow lost. Hopefully he can pull it together, but it is just a frustrating experience. read more

Dr. Gunderson is fine. His receptionist - terrible. I was there 10 minutes early for a 1:30 appt. At 1:40, I was told by her that it would be longer. I asked how long and she said 15 minutes. I said more like 20? she said yes. I told her I could not wait and that 30 minutes late for an appointment was not ok - exact words- got up to leave. She told me that I didn't need to get upset at her? What??????????? Wrong thing to say. I told her that I was not happy and that my time was important as hers and waiting 30 minutes was not accpetable. She said there was nothinbg she could do about it. I told her fine, but it is still annoying. She again said well you don't need to be upset with me. WHAT???? Upset with her?? Unbeleivable. Hey Ms. Receptionsist -here is a clue - if you are going to be the front desk, and your boss is going to keep people waiting, you had better be prepared for some annoyance. It would be best if you did not scold or lecture the customer. Terrible! UPDATE________________ Dr. G called me and apologized. As I said in original review, he is great. He promised to speak to the receptionist and apologized profusely for running late and for the receptionist. SO, I changed the review from 1 star to 3. read more
