Ive been going to Oh! Nails since I was a kid. Then they moved to Kevin nails, which I had only been to once. I went there today and got a mani, eyebrow, and bikini wax. Everything was actually great. They were still as friendly as i remember and professional. Natasha did an amazing French mani. The waxer, whose name I didn't get sadly, did a very thorough job, and it hurt a lot less then it usually does. I was impressed. I'll definitely be back very soon. read more

I've gone here quite a few times over the past several years and the service has been consistently good. Nothing exceptional, but decent manicures and pedicures. Prices are good - $28 for a mani/pedi combo, which is on the lower end of local prices. The salon itself isn't fancy, but it always looks and smells clean. They do re-use the same tools on everyone, with a soak in disinfectant in-between for everything metal. They have a reasonable range of nail polish colors, though a lot of the brands on the rack are no-name and you have a much more limited selection in OPI, Essie, China Glaze, etc. The mani/pedi that I got today was thorough and comfortable. They've got the usual massaging pedicure chairs, and the "massage" it gave was pretty painful. I turned that right off! Kevin Nail provides college-quality manicures and pedicures at college-student prices with college-student customer service. I have been a customer of Kevin Nails for the last 7 years. Their convenient location has served me well as a UMD student, graduate, and soon to be working professional. However, once you venture out to nicer salons with professional customer service, it's hard to turn back. When you go to Kevin Nail, you are not paying for an "experience." All you will get out of this place is a decent manicure or pedicure (I also do not recommend the waxing services). However, you will never feel like your business and money are appreciated. On my most recent visit, I walked into the lobby and was not greeted by anyone. I suppose this was OK, as all of the women were busy working on other customers. However, I do think that its customary to at least ask someone what service they need and give them a time estimate. So, I sat down with my color choices and proceeded to wait before Li came to get me. Li generally does good work, but she is always rushing through the service, tugging violently at your hands if they aren't at the perfect angle, and generally gets an attitude if you want something corrected. Today was no different. The pedicure was fine but the gel manicure was a different story. For whatever reason, Li is the only woman who does eyebrows in this shop. That means that if Li is doing your nails and someone walks in asking for a wax, she will stop painting your nails to take care of them. Again, today's experience was no different. She got up to wax the girl's eyebrows, which I said was fine. However, I told her that my 2-hour parking meter would be up in 30 minutes and that I would not be extending it. After all, I think that 2 hours is long enough for a mani-pedi. When she was done waxing the girl's eyebrows, she proceeded to rush through the rest of my manicure. I appreciate the fact that she didn't want to make me wait any longer, but at the same time, I did not want her to sacrifice the quality of my manicure. Needless to say, I ended up having to ask her to re-do my french tip more than once. There was also some blood shed along the way as a result of hasty cuticle clipping. Adding that to the questionable cleanliness and the loud speaker-phone conversations that the nail technicians commonly hold with friends while they are doing your nails...I can confidently say that I will only return to this salon if its for a last minute polish change. I would much rather pay an additional $10-15 to go some place else that is relaxing, clean, and professional. read more

I have a couple issues with this place. First, they aren't very friendly. You come in and they almost always lie about the wait time. Then, you sit down and they hardly talk to you except to try to persuade you to get more services (you really need waxing or you should get a gel manicure instead of a regular one). I was particularly disappointed with my last visit. Not only did my technician berate me about the quality of my cuticles but she also had the nail technician next to us come over and look at them. This girl then proceeded to giggle and point at my nails. I have to say, that didn't feel great. Also, one of the technicians behind us was watching netflix on her phone at an obnoxiously loud volume. Another, girl was cursing to her client! Lastly, though, it was the end of the day, they brought out garbage bags and left them sitting close to my chair. It didn't seem very hygienic. My nails look ok. They chipped easily and there is some paint around the edges. The color selection was pretty good. Overall, this is an ok place, just don't expect a high quality of professionalism. read more

Whenever I go here, I always go to Linh. She does an exceptional job everytime! I'm pretty picky when it comes to getting my nails done. I've gone to other nail places that are more expensive and I'm not usually as happy with the job as I am when I go to see Linh here. The service is friendly and they try their best to accommodate (it can get very busy at times). It's not the fanciest looking of places, but the quality of the manicure/pedicure along with the value make this my go-to place for getting my nails done. read more

The Vietnamese woman with a tattoo on her upper right arm was really good. She did my gel mani and my eye brows as well as my friends pedicure and it turned out excellent. First time going there, decided to get a little pick me up after classes. I went for a pedicure and the man who did my feet proceeded to very aggressively use the various tools. Also, the "massage" that comes with the basic pedicure lasted for literally 30 seconds MAYBE, and all he did was slap/basically spank my calves and send me on my way. I used to really like Kevin Nails. The techs did good work and the prices were right for us college kids. It was soooo much better than Oh Nails around the corner. Unfortunately, Oh Nails was recently sold to new owners and it seems that Kevin Nails has adopted the staff from the former salon. They do horrible, horrible work. Sadly, I no longer reside in College Park, but every time I return, I always get my nails done here! I always forget to make an appointment, but not to worry because the wait is never more than 10 minutes. Staff is friendly and efficient. Great prices. Been here once and will def go back. I got gel polish on my natural nails that lasted well over two weeks without even a chip. Kim was so great, she was precise and really took her time even though I went in pretty late and they were about an hour from closing. Do NOT go here for an eyebrow waxing! I specifically asked the lady to not make my eyebrows thin and I feel like she chopped my eyebrows off. AND she burned my face with the wax. I know have two medium-sized red spots where the wax took my skin off. Yikes! Really wanted to like this place. Gave them over 5 chances and every experience has been mediocre. I rarely write reviews but it seems every time I do it's for having issues at nail salons. I went in on Saturday to get my nails done for a special event and vacation, not even 24 hours later my gel polish (with hologram) was peeling off half of my nails. I've gotten gel & holographic nails multiple times and I've never had such an experience. As I'm on vacation I've literally had to go out and buy nail glue to keep the rest from peeling off completely. I'm very very disappointed, but as I'm a cosmetologist myself this experience has actually been a blessing in disguise because I'll be doing my own nails from now on, instead of wasting $60 (way overpriced) for some gel polish and holographic powder that you can literally get at any professional store for less than $3 more than regular polish. read more

Beware of hidden charges. My first two visits I had a full set, a fill, eyebrow wax and underarm wax. The math always seemed a bit off but honestly I figured that I'd spent more than I planned. Until recently... I took my daughter in for a fill with no extras - no French/American, no gel topcoat that takes 30 minutes to complete (yes - just the gel topcoat, on top of the 45 minute fill). Her service was $20. For??? $15 for acrylic fill and $5 for ?? I opted for a fill with the gel topcoat. After waiting for my colored polish to set for 30 minutes I couldn't wait any longer and had to go. I had my daughter pay and we left. The bill came to $45.00 I'm not sure how an advertised price of $15 for a fill routinely comes to $20+ so I called the salon today to inquire about the price of a fill and I was told $15 - plain acrylic, not a gel fill. When I asked why I was charged $20 plus $5 for the topcoat I didn't get I was asked if my nails were cut down. Um...I asked for my nails to be cut but that didn't happen. My tech was either too busy chatting with other tech's or simply didn't care. Either way - a nail cut is advertised as $3 on the board, additionally (I find this to be the most outrageous as a former nail technician myself) who in their right mind charges for what is routine care of a set of nails? Does it seem reasonable that I will ask you to fill my nails without cutting them down? Yes, I want 16" nails, that's the fad now! Why don't you just charge me for the nail polish remover at $1, $2 to rent the chair I'm sitting in and maybe another $3 to blessed with being allowed to enter your esteemed establishment? I'm angry - this is outright deception and I will be notifying state and city authorities regarding not only this dubious practice but also to alert the licensing authorities that services are being performed by unlicensed practitioners. If you want $20-$25 for a fill that includes ALL routine care then change your prices. Their work is good (depending on who you go to, I've only had one fill lift just a bit) and $20 is a fair price but don't nickel and dime me with these hidden charges that I'm not informed of BEFORE you ask for payment. read more

The guy used the electric file (that drill like nail salon tool) and goes to work on my nails and he BURNS me. He was so rough on my nails and hands the entire time, I would never go back there ever again even if I've had good experiences with the ladies that work there but the guy is HORRIBLE. He charged me $40 for the most terrible SNS dip powder ever and it wasn't even a manicure...no cuticle removal or anything. Literally just the powder and burning experience costed me $40 so that's good. I've been to Revo and U-M and honestly those are 1000000x better than the guy here. I had the most uncomfortable experience at Kevin's. I was getting a pedicure and the girl sitting next to me was also getting a pedicure. I noticed that she was done in a significantly short amount of time, as she started after me and was done way before me. I didn't think much of it, until the girl asked to speak to a manager. I'm not sure what was said until I heard the employee start to yell at the girl. She asked me if I thought the girl's feet looked like the receive a pedicure. The manager was present and didn't do anything, when they clearly didn't (the technician didn't even give her the things to separate your toes or put her flip flops back on). Just got a pedicure here. She was very precise in picking off all of my dead skin and trimming down my cuticles. It was only 5 bucks more for dead skin removal, and man was it worth it! My feet are good as new. Also, the finish was beautiful and she shaped my nails naturally, but they still look so good! Definitely coming back, requesting the same nail technician. I would not recommend Kevin's nails to anyone. A couple of people have warned me not to go this place but I didn't believe them and wanted to give them a chance. I went in and the lady immediately told me she would do my nails and i put my stuff at her table and she told me to pick a color while she was setting up. Another lady walks in ( she didn't have an appointment) and my nail technician starts doing her nails after she specifically told me she was going to do mine. I had to wait 30 minutes for someone else to do them and she kept changing the prices. I paid the exact amount and the lady got mad because I didn't leave a tip and did my nails really sloppy. She kept breathing hard out of anger and it was uncalled for. Please save your money and find someone else. read more

This was my first time visiting this establishment. Let me say, It will not be my last. I enjoy the pleasures of receiving excellent service. I was not disappointed. I decided to get a pedicure and wax for my chin. (I did not need a manicure at the time) It is almost a week later and my feet still look fantastic. The lady really took her time and paid very close attention to detail. I would recommend them for all services. Next time and there will be a next time. I will be back. Oh yeah. I have been here multiple times but this will be the last time! I work in the area and am a good tipper - 20% plus. The rudeness exhibited by the tech today was crazy. She huffed and puffed the whole time - wanted my toes down, then up,etc. I am not a mind reader just say what you want!! Then she wanted me to hold my leg about a foot in the air and would get annoyed after my leg would lower down. Sorry but holding my leg in the air for 5 minutes is not my idea of a relaxing pedicure. This is the best $20 pedicure in the area. There are no frills with this service, its a basic pedicure and the techs are fast. My color lasted a full month without any flaking on chips. Absolutely WORST manicure I have ever gotten. DO NOT GO HERE. My visit started when I was told that the wait would only be ten minutes, after 20 I was seated with my first (of many) technicians. They began the process of removing my old gel manicure and proceeded to have my move my seat to three different technicians (three different times) to finish the job. The final technician was an older gentleman who was rough and rude. I showed him a picture of the shape I wanted which he said he could do. I came in with very long, natural nails and left with a botch job. My nails are now short and stubby, do not match each other in length or shape, and do not look anything like the picture I showed. He also cut me twice until I was BLEEDING with the nail file and insisted on continuing when I was flinching in pain. After he was finished I politely asked the manager if I could speak with him. I explained how I was unhappy with the service and result and he proceeded to get angry and start yelling at me and telling me that my request for shape was unreasonable (which it absolutely was not considering I have had someone else do the exact same thing). I was in no way seeking a "freebie" or anything of the sort I just wanted to explain why I was upset. Then the man that did my nails starting yelling in an different language (unknown by me). They were both EXTREMELY rude and did not handle the situation well at all. The customer service was terrible and I will never return. I even made this yelp account just so I could post about how terrible the experience was. I went to get a manicure to relax and ended up leaving extremely upset. I decided to visit based on the reviews here at yelp! When I first stepped into the nail salon, it seemed very disorganized I'm not sure if there was some type of event at UMD but the place was packed and the staff members had a hard time keeping up with the sign in sheet. After about a 15 min wait I was finally seated in the pedi chair, my nail tech was eh at best, kind of rude and short but did a decent job on my mani/pedi, nothing home to write about but for $25 for both (non-student) that's pretty good and what more can u expect? read more
