First off I HATE DENTISTS!!! I've seen sooooo many different dentist in my lifetime and I'm only in my 40s. Dr. Sugiki is the most gentle dentist. He talks quietly to you explains things, asks if you need anything special to help with being comfortable, or if i need a quick breather. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It also extends to his workers. They are loving and make you feel safe. They ask if I wanted a blanket to keep me warm, which really surprised me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I also had a health concern and a medication that he was unfamiliar with and left to research it to see how it would affect my cleaning process. He was thorough and precise. I was ashamed going in to see a new dentist since my last dentist was terribly rough, I hadn't gone to see a dentist for 2 years. Now, I have to say I have finally found a dentist that I dont have to take anxiety medication before going, and believe me, this speaks volumes!!! I have been a patient of some less-than-satisfactory dental offices before, and this is by far the worst one. I called to make an appointment asking if I was able to come in for a new patient exam and a cleaning. I asked for January since that was when I was due for my six months. They said I could come in December after I had supplied my insurance information, so, I assumed they wouldn't offer something that wasn't covered to me. I was wrong and they said nothing. I have worked for dental offices, and it takes less than a minute to look up someone's eligibility. Are they that careless? Greedy? Both? They said nothing at the appointment, and at the end of the appointment they charged me just the tax. Without a word, I got a bill in my email for way more than my insurance fees saying my insurance wouldn't cover due to frequency. I called, and the lady rudely told me "well you asked for an appointment". I asked if they even sent the insurance claim to my secondary insurance which I had provided them, and she said they didn't even have it on file. More carelessness, I guess. And that doesn't even begin to describe the lack of professionalism I experienced from the dental hygienist and dentist. First of all, the dentist is supposed to do the exam first (legally) because how else do you diagnose what type of cleaning your patient needs?! The hygienist was lackluster, and although she had a full set of tools, she only used one scaler on me and didn't even apply any pressure or angles to actually clean my teeth. I wasn't even salivating that much and she kept shoving the suction down my throat making me gag, which has never happened before. She didn't even hardly polish my teeth and gave me the suction to close my mouth around to spit! Gross, don't you know better? Then she brought Dr. Sugiki in who barely looked in my teeth before saying they looked fine and asked what concerns I had. Didn't I write all of those out in the new patient form?! I guess he didn't bother to read it. I talked about my tooth sensitivity, and he dismissed it saying there was nothing I could do, but I could get fillings to cover the sensitive areas? No, thanks. The whole appointment was barely 30 minutes, which was insulting and neglectful. The overall experience, plus the random bill made me so upset that I know I will never come back. It feels so disrespectful that they took advantage of me like this. read more

After visiting many dentists over the years (in Europe, on the mainland and here in Honolulu), Dr. Sugiki is easily the best dentist I have ever had. He has been our family dentist for the last 15 years and has always taken care of us. From major to minor problems, Dr. Sugiki can't be beat. He is friendly, super gentle (almost too much, if there is such a thing) and gives you his honest and best opinion about treatment options (even if he has to refer you to a specialist like a periodontist, etc.). Dr. Kevin Sugiki has been my dentist for several years. I found his office through google and yelp reviews. I recently had a wisdom tooth removed, and developed a dry socket which is extremely painful. Dr. Sugiki came in on Sunday, when they aren't even open to give me a follow up appointment. I was super lucky because I'm off Sundays and Thursday. So if he didn't see me Sunday I probably would have suffered for a week! Amazing care and awesome staff. I have been a patient of Dr Sugiki for many years, but I recently had the most horrific experience with his office staff. I made plans to come in for myt regular cleaning, but the office staff sidelined the time reserved for my cleaning service to discuss some billing matters. Once the billing matters were resolved, they then claimed that there is no more time for the cleaning and that I would need to reschedule and that the next available appointment was 2 weeks later! Dr Sugiki's office has been my primary dental care provider for the past year since I moved from Maui. They have been ready to see my for my appointment times with little wait time. The staff from reception to the dentists are all professionally pleasant.
