But the front office staff is a different kettle of fish. I had some work done in April and September 2025 and the practice, as had always been done, billed my dental plan, and I paid the uncovered balance. Some time later I requested that Decatur Smiles review my 2026 dental plan options, as I was thinking of making a change and wanted to know what plans they'd accept. My request was quickly dismissed but I pressed on and asked if Decatur Smiles would at least call Humana, which they did. An inexcusably lengthy VM message and follow up text explained that essentially the practice is not in network with any dental plan but would file for benefits on your behalf. Today I received an email from Humana clarifying the dental coverage in line with a point I had made some weeks earlier; I passed it on routinely as a matter of information. I received the following text in response: "Unfortunately, I spent some quality time with a representative last Thursday, explaining the situation & giving her the dental code programs that you had sent us last week. At this point, because of the continuous discrepancies we are encountering, the only solution would be for you to pay in full as a self pay, and then we will provide you with the documentation & dental codes, so that you may self submit. Your insurance is just that, a contract between you and them. We are only the 3rd party payee. If this is not acceptable, please let us know if you would like to cancel your appointment for November 20th. Thank you!" So basically Decatur Smiles told me to go **** myself. What do you think?

This is a continuation of my dental saga from this morning (see my review for Tend Buckhead written…read moreabout two hours ago- spoiler I walked out because I didn't agree with their terms). I have a chipped tooth and Rebecca at Buckhead Dental Group was kind enough to ask a dentist at this practice to work me in on short notice. Rebecca is a total dear- so kind and sweet. She sets the tone for the office as a point of first contact and gave me every confidence my issue would be addressed. I cannot say enough for my positive experience. Dr. Abera was kind enough to see me and take a look at my mouth prior to extensive cleaning, X-rays, etc. This practice (unlike TEND) did not require extensive X-rays prior to even *speaking* with the dentist (avoid Tend buckhead!!!). My chip, as I suspected, required no filling or X-rays- just a bit of smoothing. I was in and out and the doc made time for me to ensur4e everything was addressed properly. She was kind and attentive, her assistant was absolutely amazing and sweet. I couldn't be happier and will bringing my entire family here for future visits. She even said I had nice teeth which I really appreciated! In a world where massive dental conglomerates buy small family practices and then make it about dollars, this is still a practice that has integrity and puts the welfare of their patients FIRST. They have my business and all of my recommendations moving forward! Twenty stars if I could award that many. I was a patient Dr Lewis Freedman who reconstructed my best friends' fathers mouth so I went. Most unfortunately he passed away recently and his brother Charles has taken over most of his patients. I have been a white knuckle fraidy cat for most of my life. Had fillings when I was little with no Novocain. But everyone there has assured me that the easiest thing they can do is to not hurt me. And it's TRUE. They don't have a big flashy office with a lot of wasted space but it has everything. Their location on Piedmont in Buckhead was established by Dr.s Freedman's father many years ago and at some point DR Weitman was added to the staff. He works closely with their in house ceramicist which is novel in todays world. They are really like a family to me. I go in every 6 months for a cleaning and a review from the Dr. They have fixed broken teeth, done root canals, caps, fillings and pulled a tooth or two. I have the utmost confidence in everyone at this treasure of a find.

The doctors were great, and the front office staff was always clear about costs, insurance coverage, and what I was being charged for. I never felt surprised by a bill because everything was explained upfront. Unfortunately, my recent experience after the office moved to Chamblee was very different. I visited on a weekend in January for a deep cleaning and a painful tooth. I was told that my insurance could not be verified on the weekend and that I would need to pay upfront, but that any insurance-covered amount would be refunded after verification. I decided not to proceed with the deep cleaning, but I did see the doctor, received medication for an infection, and paid $141. The front desk informed me that I would receive a refund once my insurance was verified. I followed up two weeks later and was told they were still waiting for verification. It is now June, and I have still not received a refund or a clear explanation of the delay. I understand that insurance issues can take time, but nearly six months without resolution or communication is disappointing. I hope the office can look into this matter and improve communication regarding billing and refunds.

I have always been satisfied and more, with a joyful experience, as relaxing as possible given the kind of procedure needed. I trust Dr. Shapiro to recommend necessary procedures, rather than promoting unnecessary, expensive dental work. I came in for a root canal and I had insurance well months later in my root canal became very achy where an infection was found. The pain unbearable and I went back to elegant Smilez and they removed my permanent crown and cleaned out the root canal and put a temporary crown in place, but they charge me for an entire new root canal, which is all documented with my insurance. So they proceed to send me to a specialist and I called the specialist and it will be $300 for me to see a specialist. As the months moved on, I became laid off in my job and no longer had insurance so I sacrifice just wearing my temporary crown until that came out just recently and now I have tried to call elegant smiles to see how they can help me because I just went to another dental office who have let me know that I have an infection in my root canal wasn't done properly. So I just called elegant Smilez and they informed me that the Doctor Who did my root canal she's no longer in the office and begin to charge me a new patient $199 fee. I talk to one of the medical doctors on Wednesday Sept 17, put advised me that he would help me and would call back... well he refused to call back and I gave him all day Thursday to call me back and he didn't so I proceeded to call Friday, September 19 and all day my calls were forwarded to a fax line.. I tried calling them a few times Monday, September 22. The phone rang no answer. I tried again Tuesday, September 23. The phone rang no answer. Today is September 24 and I have tried again to contact them and again the phone rang and they continue to send me to a fax machine. These guys know the mistakes that they have made, and they refuse to help me. I have tried to give them a few times to work with me before I escalate the situation to social media and a medical attorney. I am sitting here now with the infection in my tooth#30 which is all documented by another dentist that I went to last week. I would not recommend this place. They are very sketchy with Business. I wouldn't trust them with any detailed dental work maybe a cleaning that's about it but they can't be trusted and they don't even care about the health of their previous patients. Avoiding my calls for days at a time and not returning my call is a clear sign that you guys are very sketchy and shouldn't be in business. I have a huge social media following, the media will hear about this. I am a victim in the situation who have given this dentist office several chances to help with the damages that they have created.
