Salesman broke my scope and refused to admit it, even when I had to come in the next day to tell the store. Came in to buy a rail and rings the salesman offered to mount my scope ($800 vortex strike eagle) and zero it in for free so I thought I was getting an amazing deal, the rail and rings only totaled out to $120. After he hands it back to me, I told him that now the scope looks blurry and he know it does because he broke it but I'm sure he didn't mean to (his response was "oh high power scopes, just have that issue maybe try playing with the noble on the side"). I didn't realize he completely twisted off my top turret and that it was barely sitting in there because if the guy tells me he's zeroing it in of course I'm not going to mess with it. I didn't realize until I got home and tried looking around outside with it. I tried adjusting it to see if maybe that's the reason why it was blurry but no my scope was broken (which I've only had for two days), in a box not even on the rifle. Clearly I was upset such a careless mistake but in general no big deal, it's a vortex they have my back and I still have the receipt. So I just go back to the shop I got it at and exchange it. Today when I went to Kevin's to explain my issue to a manager, the same salesman was there and as he heard me explain my issue. The salesman became very upset and defensive "Man, I didn't break your scope" is what he said to me. I should have replied "well it didn't break itself" instead I thought better of it and decided to say "I didn't mean to offend you" trying to avoid a more dramatic conversation. I'm not sure if the guy I was talking to was actually a manager or not if anyone cares but the older gentleman hearing me out was much more polite and understanding. I could tell he was really trying to help me (which is great) because he offered to look at the broken scope and mount the new one. I just left the store and I'll never come back because I just don't want to deal with the drama. To them it's not a big deal because I'm just another guy but I'll make sure to tell people this story whenever the subject comes up. Had the salesman just owned up to the mistake, I wouldn't even care because it was just such an easy fix. I never asked for anything for free and I never said anything rude. Kevin's is a store with awesome stuff and some nice people but some people need a reality check. read more

My partner and his brother visited Kevin's to find a gun for me for a birthday present. They were met with extremely uncomfortable gazes by not only customers but also staff. Evidently the one man behind the counter was cordial enough and spent time actually talking to and providing the expected customer service that staff in a retail establishment should provide. However, his brother got dead panned for an uncomfortable 20 seconds by the staff member in the fishing department after asking a question about fishing line.... And then was told "we don't have that here".... Fishing line? Not the ability to answer a simple question regarding issues with line breaks due to salinity and type of catch? Perhaps he should either not be working in the fishing department, or maybe he should try to not be uncomfortable assisting a black man, or both. My partner did end up finding a gun he liked for me and one for him, since I needed to be present he informed the one helpful staff member that he would be back with me. My partner isn't confrontational at all nor is he one to even discuss or complain about scenarios that should make him upset. So when he asked me to go to the store to get gift, the incident came up and I refused. I would never give my money to any establishment that treats anyone that way. We went elsewhere and received excellent service and I'm very happy with my new gun. If you support that type of behavior well than Kevin's is for you and please continue to go there so that the rest of us who don't support that can contently shop in establishments that treat everyone equally. read more

I wouldn't send your firearms to be FFL here. My brand new gun was fired and used without my permission and when I had it transferred to another shop it arrived broken. One person in this shop was pretty cool, everyone else seemed unwelcoming and had very bad attitudes. They told me it would take 30 days to get a serial number for my NFA gun. Guess they thought I was dumb and stupid. I was referred to this shop by other military members due to the price of the guns I was looking for. Having my gun sent here was a huge mistake!!! read more

Excellent upscale sporting goods store. They have their own luxury brand of goods as well as carrying top brands yeti, pelican etc. Local business with excellent selection and staff who live the outdoors lifestyle and work here to support it. These are professional outdoorsmen not some high school kid telling you about the guns he shoots on Xbox. They can also help with anything from rifle set up, gunsmithing, permitting for ccw, suppressor tax stamps etc. Excellent range of weapons on the wall and will work with distributors to find what you want which whom they are on a first name basis. Had an issue with a pistol a few days after I bought it and they immediately took care of the issue in house with a new firearm. I have since purchased at least five firearms here. read more

Went in to buy a handgun and I told the sales person wanted to know more about trigger and firing mechanisms. I said, "So I read there are single action, double action and striker fire." He said, "Yep." I asked what he could tell me about them and he said, "Different people like different ones." I tried asking a couple of different ways and he said no one cares about the trigger mechanism! read more

Keven's is a store for the wealthy. They treat the rich regulars like royalty, the rest, not so much. Read the other reviews about customer service. Rated low for a reason. Also, their prices are very high (hence the rich only mentality). Not your friendly come all neighborhood store. read more

Kevin's is a quality, upscale hunting and outdoors store. That being said they have their pros and cons. For their pros, it would be their expertise, and high-quality products. They can tell you specifically what are some things you'll need for whatever it is you're trying to accomplish, and in their store, they have some of the best quality products available. For their cons, it's customer service. True, they may give off the appearance that they have no interest in selling anything or that they're annoyed, but the reality is they're just blown out from working in customer service. (if you've worked in customer service before, you know the "helpful, but IDGAF" attitude) So if you don't mind paying a little bit more money for some of the highest quality products, and want to be helped by some of the most knowledgeable "outdoors" people in Tallahassee (Who seem like they'd rather be doing ANYTHING else), Kevin's is perfect. If you want the opposite, you can go to Bass Pro, where they are super friendly, but a lot of the time, have no idea what they're talking about. For example, I had questions about my compound bow, and the staff at Bass Pro literally told me they had no idea what certain attachments were for. At Kevins however, they have a bow specialist Jayme, who not only can tell you what every attachment is for, but could probably also put together your bow blindfolded, with one arm behind his back. read more

My husband and I walked in their store in Tallahassee with full intentions of purchasing a hunting rifle. Walked back to the gun section and stood there waiting for someone to acknowledge us. When one of the associates finally come up to us I asked a question regarding the stuffed animals on the wall just out of curiosity. The reply I got back was extremely rude and patronizing. Then my husband is talking to this young fella regarding the guns and his attitude towards him was extremely unprofessional and very condescending. There is absolutely no way these people would get a dime of money from us nor would I recommend them to anyone after the very unprofessional way we were treated. read more

Joe can't pass up a gun shop, whether it's in Wakulla County or Leon County or anywhere we visit. We have purchased several guns from Kevin's of Tallahassee over the last decade. The salesmen have always been very informative, supportive and helpful. I end up talking to the salespeople when they're not too busy, since I enjoy shooting. Picking their brains helps me consider what I want to do next. As a woman, I'm impressed that they treat questions seriously and courteously. It's been about 10+ years since I've been to Kevin's in Tallahassee. I have purchased 2 firearms and don't remember having any issues. With my interest in firearms rejuvenated recently, I decided to give them a visit... Until I started reading their reviews. The reviews are not favorable. After debated wether to go during my next trip to Tallahassee (I live in Thomasville, GA), I decided to stop by and found that I arrived about 20 minutes before they open. As I was backing up to pull away, one the associates opened the door and motioned for me to come in. He was very helpful, helping my find what I was looking for, and offering suggestions based on my other purchases. The visit was not worthy of 5 stars as the gun counter staff was helpful, but not overly friendly. This may be in part to the fact that they just got there on a Monday morning. We all know what that is like. It appears to me that they are making an effort to correct their reputation. This was a good enough experience for me to return the next time I'm in Tallahassee and need something for my AR-15. Went into Kevin's looking to get a firearm, stood there waiting to be helped while workers just stared at me. Finally, someone came over to help. I asked simply if they carried a product and got rude response of "why would we carry that when its on the internet" to which I responded that "I can get most everything in this store for much cheaper on the internet." This has been one of several negative experiences and certainly will be the last of them. I will no longer be doing any business with Kevin's because of their condescending and rude attitude towards not only me but other customers I've observed around me. read more

nice looking store,but thats about it. after extended wait for help,salesclerk treated me like complete idiot, i wanted to trade like new glock baby 26 and 60svintage smith&wesson m37 38 snub(in excellent shape) torwards a $1100 springfield 45 auto,i was only wanting maybe 350-400 trade value for both,clerk first tells me that glocks are junk (in spite of fact they had at least 10 new-used glocks for sale and overheard them moments earlier telling customer glocks were the best!) and only worth about $100 cash or about $60trade value(used most glocks are $400-$450 resale-at least 200 -225 trade)next tells me that NO ONE wants s&w 38 snubs anymore-that he will do me a favor and give me $40 trade value torwards it.i looked at the clerk and laughed,gathered up my pistols and left.a ratty sw revolver is worth $200-this one was a 90-95% gun,that i sold later easily for $500,also sold the glock at tally gun and pawn for $350 easily and they were super nice(i will buy a gun from them)Kevins won;t have to worry about me being their fool,or interupting 3 clerks falling all over some attractive blonde wanting to fondle 2 dozen pistols while i waited 20 minutes to be insulted.by the way i got that $1100 springfield 45 at the gun vault for $875. read more
