Omg!! I've been waiting to find a fish camp style restaurant since moving to Connecticut/NY and when I tell you that Kevin's is the stop of choice for a good ole southern style seafood restaurant!! I had the fish and shrimp combination plate and it was amazing and seasoned to perfection with the fries and onion rings!! The portions are ridiculously great and its definitely more bang ‼ for your buck!!! They also have amazing desserts from Hanna pudding, apple crumble cheese cake and more!!! Been coming to Kevin's faithfully since moving to CT. I like the no-frills aspect of the restaurant I just wish it were a bit bigger for more seating. I typically get a combo box with shrimp which is always fresh and fried to perfection. My most recent visit I brought my mom and tried the hush puppies for the first time. They were light and moist, the perfect density! I do have to rate Kevin's 4 stars because of the service. My favorite spot to get Catfish from, they never miss! You're not getting catfish at this price and portion any where else! You can definitely share the dinner platter, devour it all or save the leftovers and reheat in an air fryer the next day! I had this place book marked for some time. I went with a friend who wanted seafood. The ladies at the register were very patient. We really did ask so many questions. Thankfully it was empty when we got there but as soon as we sat down to wait for our order, the place just started filling up. So I ordered a fish sandwich, shrimp and onion rings, and 2 combos of fish and shrimp with onion rings (onion rings are $0.75 more). Firstly, the portions are huge. We definitely did not need 2 combo orders. We could have shared 1 order and would still have leftovers. Everything was delicious, fried perfectly and packed nicely. Each order came with a small bag of condiments. There were 2 tartar sauces 2 hot sauces, ketchup, utensils and napkins. The tartar is delicious! I loved the various dessert options but was very disappointed that they had no desserts that day. Ohhhh, how could I forget the coleslaw ha ha ha. Let's just say I'll be needing a separate side order of coleslaw on my next visit. Ok first, I've tried clam strips all over CT- hands down my favorite place for clam strips is The Clam Castle in Madison. But, it's almost an hour away, so I can't get that all the time. Locally, I read reviews here and they were mixed but I thought I'd try it. My first impression was wow, the location is pretty sketchy and doesn't look like a safe place. I ran in, got my take out and went to town in the car. It al had a good batter, good seasoning, nicely fried- but some strips were a little gritty/sandy and I was biting into pieces of sand and didn't like that. The onion rings were good and they give you a good dinner portion, not stingy at all and worth the amount you pay. Over all, I'd suggest they thoroughly clean their clams before breading and frying. Only a hop, skip and a jump from Union Station in New Haven, Kevin's Seafood is a gem for hot, freshly breaded, deep fried food. I tried it for the first time, last night, after picking up my wife from the train. Based on online reviews and photos, I ordered the shrimp and filet combination box with both onion rings and French fries from Kevin himself. While we waited for our food to be prepared, we took a seat at one of the tables. The girl at the cash register came out and asked, "Are you going to eat here?" Although the restaurant is definitely more of a take-out kind of place (it doesn't even offer a customer restroom), fried food is best eaten fresh and hot, so we said, "Yes." After a couple of pumps of hand sanitizer from the big bottles on the counter, we were ready to dig into the massive, heavy box of freshly prepared fish, shrimp, onion rings and French fries. Everything was seasoned with salt and pepper after emerging from the fryer, so I didn't bother with any of the hot sauce, cocktail sauce, tartar sauce or fresh lemon wedges in the generous bag of condiments that Kevin brought to our table. In a word, everything was delicious. The breading was fresh, crispy and light, and perfectly seasoned. The fish filet, which I think was whiting, was white-fleshed, light, moist and tasty. The shrimp still had the tails on and were as good as the fish. The onion rings tasted like what they were; freshly cut, breaded and fried onions. The French fries were, well, just crinkle-cut French fries. LOL I gotta say, although Kevin's Seafood is definitely not fine dining, the service was friendly and, more importantly, sincerely kind. They obviously care as much about their customers as they do the quality of their food. I WILL be back for more. I'm dying to try their calamari, clam strips, whole clams and scallops. read more

The gentleman and later on the lady were so gracious and polite to me. You see, I was raised in the city point neighborhood and was visiting from Los Angeles, and it had been many years since I moved out of the old neighborhood. Love it. I happened to be in New Haven with the family and we had a craving for seafood. A quick Yelp search brought up several places, but we were closest to Kevin... and I am glad we were. The portions are huge!!! I got the fish & shrimp box which had to weigh nearly 2 lbs. There were at least 4-5 pieces of fish, 12+ shrimps, fries, bread, and coleslaw. Everything was delicious down to the spicy cocktail sauce & Louisiana style hot sauce. Also worth mentioning is that they were not stingy at all with the condiments.
