Needed a transponder key, was quoted $160 +. Asked if they would cut and program a key purchased online. They said yes, $67. I returned a week later with my own key. I was told it would be $113 to cut and program the key. I asked how much to just cut the key? I was quoted $46! I took the key to another locksmith and had the key cut for under $3.00! A transponder key, cut, and programmed at the other locksmith is under $90! Not recommended. Will never use or recommend Key Evidence Lock & Safe. read more

Really disappointed. After researching an inexpensive alternative to paying Nissan for a new key I found that ordering a key online to match my truck would work as long as you still have the original key in the truck. I brought the keys to key evidence thinking that it would be a simple job to copy my original key. Apparently it is very labor intensive because it was going to cost $40 per key. I asked why it was so expensive and was told that since I brought my own key blanks in they had to charge more because, and I quote "the labor involved and then not guaranteeing it would work" $80 to copy two keys. That seems criminal. I wish I could give them no stars. I ended up going to a local hardware store that copied my key for free because they wanted to see if it would work with the original key in the truck. It worked and they still didn't want to charge me. I will never go to key evidence again and I hope this review helps others choose to go elsewhere. read more

I took a Schlage door key to be copied. It was the door key to my apartment. He said the key was a "high security" key and asked if I had a note from my landlord giving permission to copy it. Let me make it clear that the key has no stamp stating it should not or cannot be copied such as you might find on a key issued by your employer etc. In fact, my landlord actually advised me to have a few extra keys made because if I lost both keys and they had to remake them, it would cost me $25. My landlord did not mention anything about needing her permission or a note. So, I had to argue with the guy who only acquiesced because I got a bit rude with him. Strangely, when I went to a locksmith in San Ramon to have a key for my Prius made, I asked to have a key made for my apartment; he did not bat an eye. He made it for free as part of the key reprogramming for my Prius. Weird right? Go figure. But I guess you could argue KEY EVIDENCE was just being careful, but what a pain in the butt for the customer--me! I should not have had to argue to get a key made. read more

Great Service! I had a key that I brought in myself and needed cut. Although they can't guarantee that it will work (since it was not their product that I brought in) they were super helpful and were able to cut the key just right! I definitely recommend going to them. They also have a huge variety of keys, unlike the chain stores that only have 5 to chose from. read more

My family and I and my mother in-law were on our way to Auburn for a high school graduation. I packed everything in our new Yakima cargo carrier that sits on top of our suv. Left Thursday night from Southern California and arrived in Tulare for the night. As I was about to unlock the carrier I discovered I left the key to it on the kitchen table at home, I didn't attach it to the car keys. Real genius. It was about 10:30 pm and I Called all local locksmiths but no one answered or could come. We had to shop for toiletries and pj's. In the morning I tried again and called another locksmith and he referred me to Key Evidence but said it was further north in Visalia. I said we were heading north so I'd give them a try. If they couldn't open it then we probably try Sacramento. We arrived and they had just opened and I could see they were real pros. It was a big office with keys and locks everywhere. I saw a team of about 5 guys all working. I was quickly helped. I was referred to the boss and he called another worker and they checked out my lock on the cargo carrier right away. I'd say after studying it they had it unlocked in like 5 minutes. Then they had to make a key. Theses guys were good and fast. The boss charged me a good price, even knocked off a few bucks. I was very thankful as it wasn't just a unlocking or making a spare key, he made the rest of the trip enjoyable and everyone was in good spirits. I bought a blank key for my 2005 Toyota Highlander online. I programmed the transponder key by watching a YouTube video. Key Evidence said they would charge me $50 to cut it. I had Lowe's cut it for me instead for free. After 25 years of using them, I'll never take any business to Key Evidence again. read more

I would like to give it zero stars if possible !!!!!!!! Took my car there because the key would not turn the engine off, was there at 11:00 am, was told to return at 1:30 pm even though my car was running during this time, returned at the requested time, because they could not turn the key either way I was told there was nothing they could do, to take it to the dealer, the young guys working there seemed to want to help but the older one appeared to have an attitude problem. I brought my car home, got some vice grips, attached it to the key, wiggled it up and down and all right I was able to turn the key off, I could now by wiggling the key up and down I was able to start the car on and off, came inside , called them up hoping they would tell me, great, bring the car in and we"ll put in a new ignition switch, I was put on hold, and then I was told due to the circumstances they would not work on it, I"m sorry what BS !!!!!!!!!! read more

Terrible customer service. Workers don't even want to acknowledge that I was in the store and both employees stared at me for few seconds before asking to see what I needed. Basically I went in to ask if they had a patio sliding door lock that's similar to my broken lock and they didn't so I was told to leave my broken lock there so that they can call some of their suppliers. A few days had gone by and I called in to check up on the status, but was told that they will call their suppliers and get back to me asap. A week after I first took the broken lock in, I went back the store and asked if any calls have been made to their suppliers yet and obviously none has been done. My broken lock was still left sitting/ignored on their work counter. One employee finally took the broken lock and the cut sheet that I provided to the back to make the phone calls to their suppliers, but I was out of patience by that time and just told them that I just want to take my broken lock back and forget that I even came in to ask for help. After some online researching I was lucky to locate the part that I needed (in Canada). What a waste of my time to drive to their store twice. read more
