At first glance, it's exactly what you expect in the Keys: a dockside seafood operation with an open-air café attached. Boats, traps, pelicans, tourists -- all of it. And during spring break, that café turns into complete chaos. Packed tables, long lines, people hovering, the raw bar shoulder-to-shoulder. You're not settling in -- you're cycling through. The food is solid. Stone crabs, conch chowder, fried oysters, tacos -- all competently done, with the chowder being the standout. And to be clear, the seafood market inside Key Largo Fisheries itself is legit. The cases are full, the product looks fresh, pricing is in line with what you'd expect in the Keys. The catch is: to get to it, you have to run the gauntlet. Parking lot chaos. Lines spilling out. People everywhere. It's all part of the same machine. Now here's where it shifts. If you keep walking -- past the main operation, past the traps -- you end up at a completely separate group of vendors around the corner. Different business, different setup, different energy. Same kind of product. Same general pricing. But none of the friction. Coolers on ice. Handwritten boards. No lines, no crowd, no pressure. You walk up, you look, you buy. That's it. A must visit if in Key Largo. Huge menu of fresh items from the sea to pick from. We had yellowtail fish tacos, and my wife had Cobia fish tacos. They were excellent highly recommend both. Cobia had a little bit of fishy taste but the spices they used in the blackened seemed to be hotter in that fish, but not too hot. The restaurant atmosphere is laid back and staff is very helpful with recommendations. We sat under cover outside closer to the marina and were able to watch boats come back in from their fishing charters. They caught a bunch, see pic. The market had a sign advertising yellow tail fish for $5 dollars a piece if you wanted to buy some and make it at home. We are so glad we found this gem and will be back. read more

Our experience at Key Largo Fisheries was a mix of disappointing and excellent. The restaurant side unfortunately got off to a rough start. The person taking our food order was unfriendly and made the ordering process feel more frustrating than welcoming. Customer service can really set the tone for a visit, and that interaction left a poor first impression. On the other hand, the fish market staff completely turned our experience around. They were incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely happy to help. My husband decided to buy some stone crab to try, and they took the time to answer our questions and even gave us a brochure so we could order more in the future since we live a few hours away. While we hope the restaurant customer service improves, the outstanding staff in the fish market definitely earned our business. I love this place. Chill, laidback, and as fresh as it gets. I come here every time in by the Key Largo area, especially during stone crab season because their prices are extremely reasonable. I had high hopes for Key Largo Fisheries since their stone crabs are quite famous. The place was packed especially the parking lot. To try a little bit of everything my group got the conch fritters, fried scallops, coconut shrimp and stone crabs. The stone crabs were good but unfortunately they weren't cracked enough making it impossible to get a lot of the meat. The coconut shrimp was cooked well but the sauce wasn't memorable. The breading on the fried scallops was undercooked and the scallops themselves were very briny meaning they were not of good quality. The texture of the conch fritters were not my favorite but I did want to try it since it's a staple in the Keys. Overall, it wasn't worth the fairly hefty price tag. We were on our way to Key West to meet up with other relatives when we stopped at Key West Fisheries for lunch. I don't know if there is an indoor seating area (never looked) but we have a great table on the outside deck. This is a location were you order at the window and they call when your food is ready. You order from a window and go find your own table out on the deck. The food was excellent and fresh. The service was pretty decent considering we went during the day on a Saturday. The ambiance was pretty cool cause they had a live band playing classic rock songs. A friend and I went for the stone crab happy hour special - 5 medium claws for $18. Claws were yummy, but a little mushy indicating they had been previously frozen. Living here, we are spoiled when we get fresh crab claws. The claws and oysters are on their "raw bar" by their big bar. Order with the bartender and they are brought to you. My friend had a couple drinks (watermelon margarita) and said it was really good. There was live music and hardly any people. This spot is one of our go-to visits when staying in Key Largo. Not only is it a solid spot to grab a waterfront lunch and frozen adult beverage, but it also has a seafood market with some of the most fresh, locally caught catch around. I usually stop by for a beer the day I arrive, and then pick up some fish to enjoy during my stay. They usually have Mahi, Grouper, Yellowtail, Tuna and other local favorites in addition to a variety of pre-made salads, sauces, and frozen seafood. The fish mongers are super knowledgable and can guide you with serving sizes and also debone the fish you select if that is necessary. If you want to dine there, you order at the counter and wait for your food. Seating is ample, with a good amount of tables and also a large wrap around bar. Both the seating and bar look at the water and boats, so its the perfect keys vibe. We find ourselves coming here visit after visit, because there is nothing like fresh seafood to enjoy while you're staying in the keys. For the quality, I think pricing is fair. This week I picked up 2 lbs of Yellowtail for $18.99/lb and the grouper was $29.99/lb (that's about $5-7 cheaper per pound than at my Miami-based grocery store). read more

I've watched a couple YouTube videos about this place and the one thing I've been wanting to try is stone crab. Finally, ITS IN SEASON!!!!! So of course, we went ahead and ordered 3 lbs. We got 2 lbs of medium, which are originally $27 but since they had a valentines special, if you bought 2 pounds of medium, it would be 15% off. So we did 2 pounds of medium....and one pound of large claws. The stone crab is on a sweeter flavor profile. The stone crab mustard sauce......it's so delicious. It complimented the crab so so well. We were stuffed with 2 pounds but of course we had to finish our plate. We also bought a souvineer mallet, $3.99. In total we spent $100. Which is an amazing price. Usually in other restaurants, 2 jumbos are like $60. It is so worth it to buy it from this location. The service was great, she asked if we wanted to eat there or for take out. We said we were going to eat it there, and they cracked the crab for us and it was so easy to eat. The ambiance is great. After leaving Key West, I needed to stop in Key Largo because The Beach Boys song has played in my head for years (key largo, montego, ooh I wanna take you to Bermuda Bahama...) We find the prices to be reasonable. You can sit right on the marina dock, surrounded by boats, pelicans, and even some nurse sharks! STONE CRAB DELIVERY... Tonight we were celebrating a family event and got a surprise online delivery from Key Largo Fisheries (Market). They have a waterfront restaurant and a separate market that serves fresh stone crabs, homemade key lime tarts in addition to a full seafood dominant menu including of course sweet lobster. Six pounds of Stone Crabs were delivered in a thick styrofoam cooler with ice packs in addition to several Key Lime Tarts and the sacred Mustard Sauce. Excitedly, I placed six stone crabs at a time into a large freezer bag and smacked them with a wooden mallet. Cracking all of them perfectly and served chilled. FYI always order them uncracked so that the salty ocean water is preserved within each one. OMG... I ate probably three pounds and could barely move but holy moly it was an unexpected treat. Now painfully full, I still had the need to remove the tart from it's aluminum wrapping and quickly devoured it dropping deep into my engorged stomach. 24 hour shipping price from Key Largo to Ft Lauderdale is $30.00 through UPS. The last two times I've visited have been disappointing. On our first visit had the lobster bisque which was oily and lacked any noticeable lobster... just not what you'd expect. My son ordered the mahi fingers which were greasy, chewy, and overloaded with breading barely any actual fish inside. I also had the grilled grouper platter which didn't seem fresh so sent it back and got a credit. Despite that we gave the place a second chance. This time we ordered a variety to sample... conch fritters, mahi fingers (again), fried shrimp, and even bought 4 lbs of stone crab from the market next door. Unfortunately, most of it was just like before overcooked, greasy, or lacking flavor. The only thing that didn't end up in the trash was the stone crab. For a place that's connected to a seafood market and charges premium prices, you expect much better quality. Sadly, we won't be coming back. read more
