Wowwwww!!!! Apparently this is under new management now, and wow... you can absolutely tell! I've been back four times in the past week because the food is just that good. Honestly, it's a 10/10 every single time. My current favorites are the fritters, the homemade soups (always amazing), and the Shack Fried FishI'm completely obsessed! The fish dip is also incredible, and what makes it even better is that the fish is fresh, locally caught, and never frozen. You can truly taste the difference. The atmosphere is one of my favorite parts. There's a great bar area if you're coming to relax, but there's also a separate family-friendly section, so it's perfect whether I'm dining alone or bringing my kids!!!! . I've already brought five different people here, and every single one of them has loved it. The service has been outstanding every visit. Everyone is genuinely kind and welcoming, and the owner is right there working alongside the staff, making sure guests are taken care of. It's refreshing to see someone so hands-on and passionate about their restaurant. As someone who absolutely loves food, I can honestly say there hasn't been a single thing I've tried that I didn't enjoy. Great food, fresh local seafood, wonderful people, and an awesome atmosphere. The Shrimp Shack was a 5 out of 5 on all points. This feels more like a place the locals would eat and also has a dive bar feel to it, but WOW! The food was outstanding. We started with the shrimp fritters, then I had the BEST coconut shrimp I have truly ever eaten. It was served with a pina colada "secret sauce " that tasted like the tropics. I chose the veggie of the day which was fresh steamed yellow squash with a garlic butter seasoning and it also came with two perfectly cooked hush puppies and a small side of fantastic Cole slaw. My husband had the shrimp po boy and the breading and seasoning were perfect. The service was really good, despite them only having one server. Overall, our experience at Islamorada Shrimp Shack was just okay. Some of the food was good, but a couple of items were disappointing. The coleslaw was very bland, and the coconut shrimp was greasy. We had heard about this place while were in town and found out it was a good place to get clam strips (my husband was craving some). When we got there, we also learned that Guy Fieri had visited there so that definitely gave it more value too! I had seen on the menu that they had She Crab Soup and it was a chilly morning (for this Florida girl) and it was the perfect choice. I really enjoyed it! This place has become famous partly due to the fact that in December 2015 they were discovered by Guy Fieri. The episode is called, ""Smoke and Seafood." I have not seen the episode but the other people I was with at the time were excited to be there. The place is casual with super friendly service. The drinks are generous--at least the Arnold Palmer was! The GATOR BITES - FLORIDA ALLIGATOR, CAJUN FRIED WITH REMOULADE are worth a try. The "famous" SHRIMP FRITTERS were just okay. The real hit for me was the Fish sandwich. Grouper - blackened. Lettuce, tomato, and spicy mayo. Wow! Yes, there was an upcharge for the grouper, but this was the best version of a blackened grouper sandwich I have experienced thus far while staying in the area. They bring you mini warm rolls with whipped butter--not sure if the rolls or the butter was slightly sweet, but it was lovely--and a mini banana bread which includes walnuts and coconut in it. We had the Goombay Punch and Guava Mojito, both were sweet and excellent. My partner had the cracked conch appetizer, and the shrimp po'boy with a side of cheesy grits. He loved all of it. I had the chicken continental with a side of mac and cheese. Divine, divine. So good. This is our 2 nd time here. The employees and the food are great. I had the blackened shrimp basket and honestly this is the best shrimp I have ever had! They give you complimentary banana bread and little rolls w yummy butter. The hush puppies are yummy. I like the Shrimp Shack and have eaten here several times. The only issue I had there is they don't want you sitting at the bar without first waiting in the lobby. The problem with this is 1 - It's weird. 2 - You might be standing in the lobby for 10min waiting for "permission" to sit at the bar even if it's empty. The boys got baby back ribs which they devoured. Cole slaw was bland but fries were perfectly cooked. My friend ordered shrimp and grits which she loved. I got the Fish Continental style and could not believe how large the portion size was. The nice size pieces of fish with a panko crust. I'm not sure what the fish was. We arrived early on a Friday for dinner....there was a slight wait at the front until someone greeted us. We did not manage to score outdoor seating, so we were placed in the bar. Service was friendly and prompt from that point on. The decor had this sort of rustic/nautical feel. I ordered a spicy Margarita (which was tasty and spicy enough for me), while my husband ordered red wine, which was okay. I ordered the Shrimp Key West, which involved a tomato/basil cream sauce over Angel hair pasta and sautéed shrimp. It was delicious and so generous a portion that I wished my husband and I had split a dish. He ordered the Shrimper, which came with 3 each of coconut shrimp, bacon wrapped shrimp and fried shrimp with various sauces and one side (he chose Mac n' cheese). His portion was pretty generous too, as I could not convince him to eat any of my dish!! I would likely try to convince my husband to split a dish the next time around. So Guy Fieri was wrong. This place isn't very good. We had great hopes for the shrimp shack because the Twisted Shrimp place nearby was knock your socks off excellent. But this shack underperformed and everyone in the family agreed that it was probably the worst meal we've had in Islamorada. Gator bites - ugh. Terrible. Unless you like generic overcrusted chicken tenders. Really no flavor or seasoning to speak of. We also tried the fried and Cajun fried shrimp varieties. If I was a Cajun, I'd be a ragin' at the misuse of my namesake. Bland, as were the regular fried shrimp. They come with hush puppies, which my wife described as worse than Long John Silver's. You don't have to take my advice. I'm sure this place is perfect for you if you're allergic to flavor. Feel free to waste your money as you see fit.
