Updating this review a month later. On 5/22 we had both locks on our security door and both locks on our front door replaced. Totally newly installed hardware, repositioned to sit better in the doors, the whole deal. At the end of the day, we went to shut the front door, and noticed that the door could not be shut because the new hardware hit the hardware from the security door. It just knocked up against the security door doorknob and the doorframe and would not actually close. I messaged Cory and he came back out and fixed it. Awesome. A few days later, we noticed that the deadbolts were difficult. They were just not easy to use, they felt "sticky," especially when being locked from the outside. Then we realized the issue was they could not be locked at the same time as the regular lock on both doors. We only were able to use the regular lock on botht he front door and the security door. I did not message Cory this time. It wasn't ideal, but we figured two out of four locks was fine. And you know when you just move and you have so many things to do and you just don't want to deal with something else (especially when it's already had to be fixed one time before)? So I take responsibility for that one. I didn't notify him, he had no opportunity to fix it. But, then, the crux of the issue: on Friday 6/28, just about a month after the initial installation, I got home around 5:30, went to lock the front door behind me, thought, "Huh, the knob feels kind of loose," and no sooner did I think that than the entire doorknob was dangling down out of the door in my hand. We had to go out again that night, so we had no choice but to carefully remove the entire knob from the other side, or else the door would not be able to be opened and we would be stuck inside the house. (The front door is our only entry point into the house, there is no back door, just for added context.) So now we were left with a security door where only one lock could be used and a front door with a completely missing doorknob. I messaged Cory the next morning at about 7:30 AM. He quoted me a fee. I said I didn't think it was reasonable to pay a fee when this brand new hardware was just installed a month ago. He said I should have reached out immediately and that since the entire knob was removed he couldn't evaluate what had happened. He was notified about 12 hours later and wouldn't have been able to evaluate anything as the knob would need to be removed for him to get inside and see the issue anyway. I guess I complicated things by bringing up the issue with the deadbolts (as stated, I should have brought that up earlier or not at all, sorry about that) but I stand by the fact that a newly installed doorknob should not simply fall out a month later, and if it does, you should be able to expect that any cost for the repair and labor is covered by the original installation fee. I have 30+ years experience using doorknobs, locks, and deadbolts and have never experienced any of the issues I did in the five weeks after these brand-new ones were installed, so I can confidently deduce it was the installation and not the use that caused any issues. We had a new locksmith come out and he showed us how the hardware was misaligned. He fixed everything, it works great now, and his work has a six-month warranty. It's a bummer when you hire someone to come to your home and you pay $287 for something that doesn't work the day of, a few dates later, and then a month later. People make mistakes and I understand that time and services cost money, but I think the consumer should also have an expectation that when a service is performed, you are getting what you paid for and it will continue to last. So why am I writing this very long review for a locksmith? I was going to just delete my review. In fact, I went to do just that, but then I looked through the reviews and read another one from a person who had the same exact problem as we did with their doorknob falling out. I personally go to Yelp first for almost everything (it's where I found Keynnections in the first place) so I think it's worth updating and not simply deleting. I hope it's clear I thought a lot about this because I hate to write a negative review for a small business, but I also think my time, money (again, $287), and trust is valuable and it's only fair to people looking for similar services to have a full picture. I got keys copied for my office and they did not work. I was out of office for a couple days and returned to my coworkers telling me their key copies didn't work. It had a feeling it was NOT Cory's fault so I wanted to have him come check out the lock to see why it was not working. I asked him what his policy was on returns/refunds/faulty keys and he accused me of scamming him. I sent him the address to have him come out and take a look so this mistake doesn't happen again to other customers. He continuously told me how I just wanted a refund, which was not the case whatsoever. I would never want to take an advantage of a business like that, especially a small one. I tried to explain my self and reassure that I just wanted to figure out why the keys didn't work and I suggested that as a business owner he should want to know for his own sake. If I could give 10 stars, I would. Let me start by saying this gentleman (sorry, I'm horrible with names) was the second person/company I had called to get me and my child back into our home. The first person, from a different company, was a nightmare which I won't get into, but I was already feeling wary and my daughter was scared. When this gentleman showed up, he was kind and prepared. He had a whole van with every kind of key mechanism you might need. Next, he advised me that we wouldn't even have to drill out my broken front door latch. He was able to get into my garage, made sure my garage door still functioned properly, then picked the garage lock, and we were back inside! Then, he offered to see if he could repair my latch. He took the latch off and showed me the mechanism that was getting stuck. He could have repaired it, but I didn't trust the latch (long story). He also could have replaced it, but then I asked if we could just remove the inner piece of the latch so I could just use the handle with my deadbolt. He thought this was a decent idea given all the latch issues I'd had. He removed the inner piece and I was now missing a door plate, so he let me choose a replacement. All in all, he was very personable, humored my questions, talked me through each step, and even amused my child and I with a video of his dogs. On top of that, he was honest. He quoted me one flat rate over the phone, promised no hidden fees, and stuck to it. I don't always believe in tips, despite paying them, since they've become more mandatory than a representation of someone going above and beyond your expectations. However, in this case, it was well deserved. I thought my lock was going to have to be drilled out, which would have required me to find an HOA approved replacement, wait months for approval, and then finally install it. He saved me money and a significant amount of time. I couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome, and absolutely recommend him. read more
