Some of the individual doctors at Keystone are just fantastic, but they are all too busy to provide a consistent standard of care. My last doctor was randomly assigned to me based on our mutual schedules. He lectured me about my sexual habits when I visited for a sleep problem. He accused me of being addicted to pain killers on the next visit, then acknowledged that I had no access to pain killers. (He was fired. Fancy that.) Sure, Keystone can get you in and out; but they can't and don't offer much by way of personal or preventative care. If you don't have insurance, mention it when you get to the billing counter. Keystone offers a discount for the uninsured. Also, if you need to see a doctor URGENTLY but not ER URGENTLY, call at 7:30a when they open and request a same-day. Ask nicely, and the receptionist will probably take pity and give you an appointment. But only if you are nice. (I'm serious.) read more

I'm so relieved to see that I'm not alone in my opinions. I've been dealing with Keystone for the last 20 years. My first encounter was the result of debilitating back pain that caused me to lay across my desk at work in tears. He told me that I had a pulled muscle, despite the fact that the condition had existed for nearly a year. His EXACT words were "Suck it up"!!! Turns out that I have Scoliosis. And he still works there. More recently, I started seeing a woman at Behavioral Health I believed to be a psychiatrist, when in fact, she was a Nurse Practitioner. After several extremely negative experiences with those folks, I'll NEVER do it again. I've been involved with the mental health system since I was 20, and I worked in the field for ten years; I'm now 65. I've been prescribed life-sustaining meds since I was 35, without side-effects. This person refused to refill them for reasons that I knew were ridiculous, but I tried to work with her. I suffered intense withdrawal and became nearly catatonic as a result, at which point I changed providers. I have severe PTSD and went on their waiting list for nearly six months. I was very lucky to get a specialist who was wonderful! I saw her twice, and she quit. Never once was I seen less than 20 minutes late and often rescheduled because my time is just as valuable as theirs; HOWEVER, I arrived five minutes early and was berated by the receptionist for being late after I stood in line for ten minutes. Most of the providers that I've seen have been condescending, rude and insulting. I've NEVER used illegal drugs in my life, nor have I ever abused prescription meds. Regardless, after I fractured my spine, the pain was out of this world. I was denied pain killers because Opioids have become the drug du jour. I now have a dual-disability due to my back injury and PTSD. My only insurance is Medicare, which is pathetic, and I can't help but think my treatment (and that of others) is based on the fact that I don't have private insurance. Where can I begin with Keystone? I went to them, Behavioral Services Unit, because I suffer from, among other things, chronic depression. I have many physical illnesses and take a lot of medications. I have been in an out of therapy since I was 16, I'm now 65. All of my physical problems are handled at Hershey so the doctors can coordinate not only my conditions but my medications. I went to Keystone because of the weekly therapy sessions, and the cost going to Hershey weekly would be prohibitive. At Keystone, I needed a psychiatrist for my medication and a therapist for my counseling sessions. What I was looking for in a therapist was a Christian with certain areas of expertise. It was a bumpy road. The psychiatrist would ask me what medications I wanted. If I said something wasn't working he asked what I wanted the dosage changed to! I kept telling him it was his job as the doctor to prescribe and change dosage not mine. Then, on one occasion, we begin arguing quite vocally. When I challenge him on it, he was Indian, he said it was his culture and I should learn to accept it. He then said he could have me committed for 72 hour hold because of my behavior. I challenged him to do it. I told him I would do a dance while I was there and they have to let me go. After that they would never see me again, my depression and suicidal tendencies with go untreated, and he would never see me again. The therapist was not much better. She consistently got information wrong and forgot things that I had said were important to me. It really hit home one day when I told her about an appointment I had with my doctor. I had not seen him in 6 months and yet he remembered to ask how my father, who was dying of cancer, was doing. Her response was, "Well, some people just remember things better than others." This from a woman I have been seeing me weekly for over 6 months and she had problems remembering the most important things to me that I was sharing with her? She did do one thing right however. She put me into a PTSD group which was very beneficial. Suddenly, without any warning, I showed up one day and was told that I was cancelled out of all services because I had been late 3 times in 6 months. This was one of the things I was seeing a therapist about. So, don't bother treating somebody with depression, where one of the problems and side effects of depression is never being able to get to places on time, just get rid of them. Leave then hanging with no support. Isn't it the first rule of doctors to do no harm? My recommendation: Go somewhere else if you need therapeutic help. read more

The Behavioral Health services can be a pain to deal with. I've come to the realization that waiting lists for behavioral health services anywhere are a doozy, and Keystone is no exception. My son waited months to even be seen initially. Explaining that his issues were getting him kicked out of daycares and after school programs among other things was not enough to condone a sense of urgency. Mind you, he had a diagnoses from Hershey already and we were seeking treatment. The wait times for appointments are long as well. We are typically 10 minutes early for appointments and tend to be taken to see his doctor 20-30 minutes after the appointment time. I understand people may need more time discussing issues, and I'm sympathetic to that but some sort of "we'll be right with you, we're running late" or any sort of acknowledgement that we were there would have been helpful. In one instance the doctor came out 10 min past our appointment time, saw us, then proceeded to make arrangements to see another patient instead. She looked at us and seemed to suddenly remember we were there before reluctantly proceeding with our appointment. The biggest issue I have is that last year we asked to see a behavioral therapist (we see a psychologist now and my son is in need of therapy). She told me she was referring him to the waiting list. Eight months go by and I was assured the waiting lists were simply just long. Finally, a year later I asked the doctor again and it seems he was never referred in the first place. I know this because this time they called the next day to confirm that he was placed on the waiting list. We never received such a call after the first alleged referral. read more

if you have Chip -geisinger kids health plan do not waste your time. 3 months ago I called keystone and they told me they accept my plan. it took 2 months to process my sons paper work from one doctor to another and then another month to book an appointment. 2 days before the appointment they call and tell me they do not accept my insurance! i called chip and they said keystone is in their system and they even called their selfs to get nowhere. I was on the other line and they just kept beating around the bush. I waited 3 months for nothing. very upset. read more

Billing department is shady. Doctors are condescending and the office staff is rude. They have no regard for patient privacy. They continued to call my work even after I asked them not to and each time identified themselves to our receptionist while asking for me personally. Most doctors offices just call and say "its a private matter".. Twice I called in for test results and was put on speaker phone not know who else was around to hear my personal information. At one point I received conflicting test results from different nurses at the same office! I have so many other examples but I hope this was enough to save others the time. PS all of the Keystone medical offices are like this. Summit is slightly better but I have been very happy with Pinnacle so far. read more

I do not recommend going here if you want to be treated as a human being. All they seem to be is cookie cutter, They want you in and out, they don't always provide you with information you need, and sometime won't answer any of your questions. When calling, you will not get a person, only what seems to be an endless menu, to which, if you dial any extension, you get a voice mail. Most of the times, I never received a call back. I now drive there if I have any questions, and sit and wait until someone actually gives me an answer to what I need. What ever happened to Doctor/Patient interaction. This is an example of corporate medical care. They make you jump through so many hoops to get care. I am leaving the area and can not get in for an appointment so guess what, I have no meds! I have had the blood work done but because I cannot get into the office, they will not help me even though they have the results. read more

Emily Hoger is by far the best female doctor I have ever dealt with. Female check ups can be a nuisance but she makes them so simple, comforting and you leave feeling confident in whatever she may have you doing. She makes you feel you are her only patient for the day, carefully and thoroughly explains everything to you. I highly recommend her to all my family and friends as their main OBGYN practitioner. read more

Leaving a very negative review for a very good reason; I noticed my hearing going bad just shy of two years ago. I started visiting here about two years ago and the lady who gave my hearing test was AWFUL. She was extremely rude and not very understanding of my issue, she pretty much told me that she couldn't help and sent me right across the complex to another questionable lady who had told me she felt maybe it came from stress? WRONG. I practically had to beg to visit another office with different doctors which is something you should NEVER have to do. I have now visited Hershey medical center and have been told that I do have a pretty severe hearing issues that could've been solved TWO YEARS AGO. I'm now a freshman in college struggling with so so many other issues and this on top of it has only made things worse. Don't trust these people, your body will tell you when you have an issue and stop at nothing to get it solved. We all deserve to be happy and healthy. Most of the Dr. get you in and out. You will spend more time with the nurses and receptionist. They don't have the time to listen. Or maybe they just don't care. I Have been asked about MEDS that I have never taken and about conditions I've never been seen for. You would think things like that are important to get right. read more

Patients beware! After several visits for myself and family members, their services just digressed. As a health care professional, I was both shocked and disappointed at the impersonal care, rude staff and treatment as if you are a "clinic" patient. Once I requested records, you would have thought I was trying to "pull their teeth". Do yourself a favor & check out other health care practices in this area. read more
