We went to Maaz's Chicken as part of the Rhode Island Food Fights Sandwich Showdown. When a place…read morestands out so far ahead of the competition, I pay attention. This was the case today. The interior is clean--almost startlingly so. White subway tile, wood-look floors, and that sprawling menu wall broadcasting "Fresh," "Spicy," and "Halal" like they actually mean something here. The young lady behind the counter had that genuine warmth you can't train into people. Not the "corporate manual says smile" routine, but someone who's actually invested in what they're serving. The sandwich arrived still hot. First bite tells the whole story--that perfect orange-colored crust breaks up properly, giving way to chicken that's fantastically seasoned all the way through. The bun holds everything without getting soggy or falling apart halfway through. It's the quick precision of fast food with the soul of something homemade. Those fries deserve their own paragraph--skinny, crisp, and seasoned with something that makes standard salt and pepper seem like amateur hour. Someone in that kitchen actually cares about the potatoes. What sets Maaz's apart is execution. They're not trying to create some wild new flavor profile or Instagram-bait sandwiches. They're just doing the basics perfectly, consistently, one serving at a time. Providence keeps turning up these gems--places that don't need fancy locations or PR campaigns, just seriously great food that creates its own word-of-mouth buzz. I'd open one of these in my hometown tomorrow if I could. The place would print money, not because it's revolutionary, but because it delivers exactly what it promises: the best version of a fast food chicken sandwich you've ever had. Worth the drive to Providence. Worth the tight parking. Worth every penny.

The person working the counter was friendly and the inside of the restaurant was clean and bright. There are a few tables available if you prefer to eat at the restaurant. They have a very small parking lot plus there is on street parking available. The sandwiches are made to order, so it took a little longer than we had expected, but we were happy with what we received - a fried chicken breast on a soft roll with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and mayo. However, the macaroni and cheese was not something I would order a second time. Be sure to check out their dessert case, which was full of delicious looking items.

Love that you get to choose your spice level. We both did hot and it was actually hot. The strips came on top of bread slices which was a bit confusing as it was plan sandwich bread.. not toasted or buttered or anything. I was thinking it was going to be a raising canes situation but wondering if the bread was just under the chicken to soak up grease?? Idk man. The fries were crispy and had some seasoning on them which was decent but they were not fresh, was dried out. There were some small slices of pickles and they were good. Also came with a sauce that was like a Chick-fil-A type vibe to it.

Long story short, it hit the spot lol Food: I ordered the leg quarter with fries (medium spicy) with a side of corn bread. The chicken was nice and juicy and the outside was crispy. Cooked perfectly! The spice level was good and I could've gotten it hotter. The corn bread was so good! Felt like biting into clouds! lol Service: There's a kiosk to place in your order in the front. It's self seating. Then they call out your name and place to give it to you. Staff was nice and fast. Ambiance: It's spacious. Lots of seating. It was also clean. Good spot to get a quick bite!

Slow Rhode, little spot open late for food, and hijinx. Foo love hijinx…read more "Antonio, best bartender, how you been my homes?" Foo says. "Hey Foo, good to see you, have a seat." said Antonio. "Menu please?" "Of course. Specials are on the board, what will you have for a drink?" "I'll have a Canadian Club Manhattan." "How about Rittenhouse Foo?" "Sounds good Antonio, best bartender but how about Crown Royal?" "Foo, relax, I'll make you a nice drink," said Antonio. "Hey Antonio," Foo says, "I'll have a cheeseburger, medium, no bacon, fries is okay." As Antonio put down my Manhattan I told him that I was at 22 Bowen's and ran into Chef Eric. Antonio said Eric invented the grind ratios for the Slow Rhode burgers. "Well, Foo believes you best burger in city. Not in state but in city," said Foo. Antonio said, "Who best in state?" Foo, me, the reviewer of the review leaned back in the barstool, looked around the funky ambiance space, and stroked the long scraggly beard Foo tries to grow and said, "I believe best burger is Clarke Cooke House on English muffin with the Gorgonzola." "Really?" "Yes, but one that beats that is Newport Creamery Big Beef patty melt!" "Yo homes, that's a tasty burger," said Antonio. "Righteous!" Foo yelled while giving daps and hugs to Antonio all while jamming a massive stack of grat, all tens, into his pocket and yelling, "My name Foo!" and disturbing the nice people at Slow Rhode. Foo loves Slow Rhode.

I've…read morebeen drooling over their social media posts ever since & was thrilled to finally get here. On a busy Saturday night, we were prepared to not find space, but gave it a shot. Luckily, there was a perfect corner of the bar had just opened & we grabbed the seats. The atmosphere was convivial, upbeat & super comfortable, despite the crowd. Service was fabulously friendly & competent - the bartender handling the packed house with ease. We decided to go with an array of small plates to try as much as possible. The menu it designed perfectly for grazing & the prices are super reasonable! The selections are definitely on the comfort-food side with a strong southern hint. Ingredients are often locally sourced - something I greatly admire. We began with the a small plate of Pimento Cheese Toast. Just a few bites each but a nice start. Duck Drumettes. The horseradish-y white sauce was delectable! Even my non-duck loving partner was blown away. I was happy to hear that the salad was available in a half portion - enough for a light fresh break to our heavy selections. Next came a much heavier choice - the gravy fries with duck confit. We left off the cheese, but it wasn't missed at all. These were decadent, delicious & super filling! Next time we'd get a half portion - that would have been plenty! Our final dish was the Shrimp & Grits, but we'd already filled up on the other dishes & ended up asking for this to go. Even reheated, it was a perfectly delicious accompaniment to our brunch the next day! I'd be tempted to order this to-go again for just that purpose. While we didn't imbibe, the cocktail list looked wonderful & the bar was very well stocked. We did enjoy a nice selection from the interesting beer list. The sandwiches that we saw come out looked delicious & huge! We'd love to try them as well. We will be back - this is certainly a new favorite for us!
