The Slow Rhode has been on my radar since stumbling on a pop-up brunch there a few years ago. I've been drooling over their social media posts ever since & was thrilled to finally get here. On a busy Saturday night, we were prepared to not find space, but gave it a shot. Luckily, there was a perfect corner of the bar had just opened & we grabbed the seats. The atmosphere was convivial, upbeat & super comfortable, despite the crowd. Service was fabulously friendly & competent - the bartender handling the packed house with ease. We decided to go with an array of small plates to try as much as possible. The menu it designed perfectly for grazing & the prices are super reasonable! The selections are definitely on the comfort-food side with a strong southern hint. Ingredients are often locally sourced - something I greatly admire. We began with the a small plate of Pimento Cheese Toast. Just a few bites each but a nice start. Duck Drumettes. The horseradish-y white sauce was delectable! Even my non-duck loving partner was blown away. I was happy to hear that the salad was available in a half portion - enough for a light fresh break to our heavy selections. Next came a much heavier choice - the gravy fries with duck confit. We left off the cheese, but it wasn't missed at all. These were decadent, delicious & super filling! Next time we'd get a half portion - that would have been plenty! Our final dish was the Shrimp & Grits, but we'd already filled up on the other dishes & ended up asking for this to go. Even reheated, it was a perfectly delicious accompaniment to our brunch the next day! I'd be tempted to order this to-go again for just that purpose. While we didn't imbibe, the cocktail list looked wonderful & the bar was very well stocked. We did enjoy a nice selection from the interesting beer list. First time here. Maybe we came on an off night (Tuesday). It was super nice weather last week, the door was open. But the vibe was just not there. We ordered soup, green beans, jalapeño cornbread frites. We came because we were going to get the fish sandwich but after our apps we decided it wasn't worth it to possibly be let down. The soup was nice, very delicate but lacking something. The green beans had so many ingredients on the plate but no flavor. Been coming to Providence for years and always meant to eat here, however as they do not take reservations it was always left off the list. Finally made it and it did not disappoint. The wait was worth it and Slow Rhode is now on my must stop list everytime I visit. Our server was great and we love that they have later hours with a full menu. Hard to pick a favorite but probably goes to the Shrimp and Grits. Crazy low price for the portion it was. The Duck Drumettes were killer and the side of Chedder polenta fries were killer. I was looking for somewhere not too fancy but with great reviews to grab a quick bite while on business travel. I came access The Slow Rhode by searching Yelp near me. The place is in a small collection of restaurants- it looks like some sort of concept for this that is cute. But it's not a food hall as each place has its own individual location with one shared parking lot. It's small inside with just a bar with seating and tables along one back wall. It's cute and intimate with wooden chairs and benches and a nice bar wall with bottle. Ambiance is dark and candle lit and there is a nice music selection playing in the background. It is loud, so don't go here if you want or need somewhere quiet. The menu is small but seems intentional. There are several small plates to choose from and here were mine: - Duck fat confit toast - this was not a fav of mine. I didn't actually enjoy the consistency of the fat on top of the toast - Duck drummettes - best thing on the menu! The duck was so tender it fell off the bone and the sauce is awesome! - Fried fish sandwich - it was a solid choice. The jalapeño was spicy, but once I removed that, it was good. I wish the slaw was a bit more creamy, but it was a large and fried fresh piece of fish, so I recommend it - zero proof cocktail - not a favorite; it was too sweet or something for me was off. It may be because I love a good alcoholic cocktail, but for someone who doesn't drink, it's well made The prices are good; all 4 items total came to $38 before taxes and tip. My dearest friend moved from Atlanta to Providence about three months ago. It has been an adjustment for him so I decided to leave the city a bit and keep him company for Labor Day. The train ride was dreadful, but as soon as I got there I was hungry and thirsty (for an adult drink). This was my first meal in Providence and I will say it was quite a cute little spot. I always think of grits when I see my southern friend so I got some dish that gave me the vibe. Unfortunately they sprinkled green onions after I requested it not to have any onions or green onions, but it was fine. The drinks were fine, but weak for my likings so I ordered a double. May or may not end up here again when I go back, but it will be because my friend wants to more so than me requesting it. read more

Small restaurant, big flavors! Food first. The spicy chicken sandwich was a great combination of tangy and spicy. The chicken was especially tender and juicy. The fries it came with were seasoned with a delicious Cajun style seasoning that made me wish they would never end. The fisherman's pie was a delicious take on a chicken pot pie, but with fish. The crust was flaky and the filling savory. The only thing I didn't care for was the room temp water served with no offer of ice. I prefer my water cold. The place is smaller than I remember--a little more unkempt. BJ the bartender was affable as was Bobby sitting next to me. The food was scrumptious. Moroccan meatballs over cous cous--very different, delicious. (I've since made them at home--outrageous) Duck drumettes with a white sauce--fab! My wife had the fish sandwich of which I had a bite. Paired my meal with tequila on the rocks. Good portion for the prices and service was quick and friendly. This is my third time coming here and I will say the food here has gone downhill. The place is very aesthetically pleasing inside and its a good private spot to hang out at. The service was good the food came out quickly. I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was honestly the most mid meal I probably ever had it tasted only like ketchup and sausage and the serving was tiny (which im glad cause I really did not enjoy it at all). What's up with the waitstaff? Stars taken off purely for the service. One host/server in particular that was there. For one, a group shows up and asks a simple question that any front of the house staff at any other restaurant would be able to answer: what's the wait time for a table? This host/server straight up says "yeah I don't know, couldn't tell you". What? The next thing this guy did was when ordering food: One of our people asked if a couple items could be removed from a dish. Server then turns it around and is like "Why? Is there a food allergy or something? Let me ask the chef if this is even possible". We were like ok, no big deal we'll order it as is. Server comes back and says the cooks have no problem making the dish as requested but "I just don't know why it would be ordered like that, what else is even left?". First night in providence and this place really made an impression. Never thought I could get southern food all the way up here in RI, yet alone good southern food. Great ambience and atmosphere. Very quaint and mellow. You would think the vibe is more of a bar but I think it would be the food. Everything we ordered had such wonderful flavors separate of their own. Such tense flavors. The staff are friendly and food comes out quick. Portions, I think, are perfect in size. I would compare them to tapas. Goes so well with a cocktail or beer. Adorable vibes in this spot. The ambiance is warm, dimly lit, cozy, and always playing great music. The menu skews new-American and a little southern. I've had some great meals here. The mushroom risotto at Slow Rhode might be the best mushroom risotto I've had. The texture was perfect, and the mushrooms were a little acidic in a way that beautifully contrasted the richness of the dish. I would recommend that off their menu the most. Their spicy chicken sandwich is also extra crispy and worth a try. The servers here are incredibly kind and accommodating. My friend threw her birthday party here and the waitstaff went out of their way to help us arrange tables for a larger crowd, despite the small space (and gifted her a birthday shot).
