The Spiciest level - Reaper 1 slider and 1 tender
Yong C.

We couldn't leave Dorchester without trying Dave's Hot Chicken. As first-time visitors, my partner and I decided to go all in and order the spiciest option the Reaper so we could determine our preferred heat level for future visits. I have to say, it was easily one of the spiciest meals we've ever had. The cashier even had us sign a waiver for legal purposes, which added to the experience. Despite the intense heat, the chicken was flavorful and well-balanced, not just spicy for the sake of it. The restaurant's airbrushed graffiti-style design created a cool, energetic vibe that made the visit even more enjoyable. We will definitely be back again.

Came here again on my way home from making a work trip out to little Compton and the employees here are always super friendly and just amazing! I felt bad for the staff because they had a whole baseball team show up in a bus and I hope they called ahead to give the employees a heads up lol. We all come for the amazing and delicious chicken and the chill vibes and incredible hospitality is just a plus! I always tell people to go there and eat because they won't be disappointed or they won't leave hungry!

40 Chicken Bites

Dave's Hot Chicken is probably the island's best fast food restaurant. We came here for dinner after I left my day job for the last time. It was late, and we didn't know if it was going to be open. To my surprise, it was. Most places outside of downtown Newport seem to close pretty early. These guys have the spot where Plant City used to be. When we walked inside, it was pretty spacious, and there were a couple of customers. High ceilings, so it's kind of echo-ey inside. I'm a big eater, so when I saw the menu full of things like 2 chicken tenders and the like, I was a bit worried. Turns out, I needn't be. My friend ordered 2 chicken tenders, and they must've came off the largest chickens in existence. I ordered the 40 chicken bites, which must've been hilarious to some people back there, since it's under the "Feed a Crowd" section of their menu. Anyway, I think they make the food to order, because it took several minutes before our order was ready. It wasn't a long time. And honestly, I got impressed by that. You don't find a lot of fast food places that are making the food to order. Second thing that I found impressive... they serve their chicken on top of toasted bread. Why do I find that impressive? Because the toast absorbs extra moisture, and because toast is mostly air, it provides a layer of heat insulation. 40 bites. At the end of the last chicken bite, the chicken was still hot. It's a beautiful and genius move. I got mine with the medium hot sauce. It's not burning hot, but it still builds up pretty well over the course of 40 pieces, and honestly, I like tasting my food underneath the heat anyway. This is currently my favorite fast food spot on the island. My only regret is that they don't have a location close to where I live.

Came for one thing, and that was the Fallout collab as seen in social media! Unfortunately they were sold out. Plenty of parking and very hard to miss building. Artwork was interesting and caught my eye. It even continued inside and the menu is clear~ staff was friendly and explained our options, and answered all my chicken questions~ the saucy bites can't be mixed in flavors, which was my question. Got some Hot Honey flavor and it was crunch, savory, and filled with meat! My favorite! My partner got the number 3, that included a sandwich, and one tender with fries. I ate the tender, and glad I didn't order the tenders meal. Although meaty and flavorful, it was a tad too dry and definitely needed the sauce addition to give it some moisture back! It was on the salty side~ the fries were good, and crunchy. My highlight was the saucy bites because it does have a good amount! Would I reach for this? This place is far for me, but I do see myself coming here for the urge or some saucy bites every once in a while~ or in the area and prefer a meal versus some fancy Newport restaurants around.

When I checked out their Rhode Island location, I had the intention of doing what I do best---sampling beverages. I heard they have new top loaded shakes and burstin' slushers, but I was told that I had to try the hot chicken too. Well duh, that's what they're known for. So here's the thing about me. I love anything sweet, and the mango slusher with strawberry popping boba and the Oreo top loaded shake def met that need. I am however not a spicy girly. Anything more than mid BBQ is too much for me. However, I reallllly loved Dave's Hot Chicken! Their chicken slider is perfectly balanced with slaw and when eaten with some fries, left me as one happy girly. This all paired with a sweet bevvy, well it's perfect. You gotta get to Dave's. This location is bright and inviting and the staff is very sweet and helpful. I had a great experience. I might have gone for their cool beverages, but man did I stay for that chicken. Now I understand the hype and why they're popping up everywhere.

I've been wanting to try this place since they announced they were opening. My first Nashville Hot experience being in Nashville has tainted me on every version I've had since, so I wasn't coming in with high hopes. The place is brightly colored inside and out, so no fear of missing it. The people working there were very helpful and nice. I read a couple of reviews here critiquing the service, but this was not the case for me. I got a hot and extra hot sandwich to test the waters, particularly after learning their reaper option required a waiver. I have a pretty good heat tolerance, but figured I'd play it safe. Spoiler alert, I could have done the reaper and will try it next time. The chicken was cooked well, the fries were nice and seasoned and they came out pretty quickly. One of the workers there recommended trying some honey on the chicken and the balance of sweet and heat worked really well. I'll definitely try them again. While the establishments in Nashville don't have much to worry about, this was as good a Nashville hot as I've had in southern New England so far.

Yeah, ok... it's not Gus's Nashville Hot... Breading a bit heavy and dense, chicken was succulent and juicy as any brined chicken would be but very salty... fries were ok crinkle cut... dave sauce, tasty but turned my stomach a little (high fructose corn syrup, caramel color and soybean oil --I generally try to stay away from) ... it's not something I'm going to go out of my way to get... 3 stars

The juiciest tender within 3 counties!

Ok, first timer here and it did NOT disappoint. I wasn't expecting the tenders to have a dry seasoning on them, opposed to the regularly sauced tenders I'm used to. The rub was very good, and kept you going back for another bite. The price is a bit high, but the portion size really makes up for that. As a portly guy who enjoys a self deprecating large portion, the two tenders and fries were more than enough. I had half a tender and enough fries left over to enjoy later. The fries are crinkle cut that are crisp, hot and lovingly sprinkled with the same seasoning as the tenders. Give this place a shot even if you don't enjoy spice. They have options for no spice all the way up to reaper. I'll be back for sure!

I've heard about the hype on. place when I was in Hawaii. Finally got to try it and the wait did not disappoint. I got the number 3 combo that comes with a sandwich and a slider. The heat level was good. Some places will claim spicy but fail to deliver. I can handle spicy, I ate the hot with no issues but the extra spicy had me sweating. Chicken is seasoned well, food is cooked when you order, so there a bit of a wait but you're getting a fresh product. Inside is clean and spacious. Order a slushy to tame that heat. I'll be back to try their hottest level the reaper.

Stopped here for a late lunch-- been very curious to try this chicken! It did not disappoint. The guy at the counter (guessing a manager) was patient and helpful since it was our first visit. Hubs and I shared a meal, got medium heat on the tenders-- great heat level for us and nice size! Pickles are nice, fries are decent. I'd definitely drop in again!

Solid chicken sandwich, not a ton of options, kind of big space with VERY SLIPPERY FLOORS and graffiti-style decor for (seemingly) buttoned-up, old-money Newport? I will say the value ain't bad - the "sliders" are large chicken tenders on a hamburger bun. Medium spice level equates (to me) like other fast food places "spicy chicken" sandwiches, so if you're expecting actual HOT chicken, go hot on up. Fries were fine, I like crinkle cut but I know I'm the minority. Mac & cheese was also fine - grabbed it as a fallback for my 5 year old and he liked it a lot. It was creamy, not aggressively flavored. Pickles were good. Sauce was good. Wish there was more of the kale slaw, it seemed to be the only thing that makes Dave's standout? Totally fine - not amazing, not awful.

Had to make a quick stop throughout our travels to enjoy Dave's! The drive alone is gorgeous with the sparkling waters, rolling waves, warm sand bars, screaming gulls...we ordered a #4 solder with fries and a lemonade. The street art is gorgeous, hometown nod to the US Navy and windmills and farming industry makes this haunt a must for dine-in! Music is targeted for my age group, VH1 specials - we ate every bite! Service was a bit slow taking 25 minutes to make 1 meal :(

Heard good things but quickly realized otherwise. Ordered a #3 and both sandwich and tender were unappetizing. Chicken was almost raw.

I'm a spicy type of girl, and they definitely put a lot of spice on their chicken. It is very, very seasoned. It can definitely give you heartburn, but it's worth it lol. I'm also obsessed with their slushy's. They're so delicious! Location: This location is super casual, mainly a grab-and-go, but you can also sit down and eat there, similar to most fast food joints. The inside has a lot of character. When I came in there was no one making the front. We ordered online and the order was ready when I pulled into this location. It took someone about 5 minutes to even show, and they immediately started ringing up people in the order line rather than address those waiting to pick up. Another 2 minutes later. Someone else shows up, fetches the bag behind the counter with minimal interaction. The chicken was still warm, but was overcooked. The reaper ranch was light on the ranch and was hot but lacking any real flavor other than the burn. The daves sauce was overly sweet, and the French fries topped with Mac and cheese were good but really lacking in toppings. It was like a tablespoon of Mac n cheese to a handful of fries and two chicken nuggets on top. At the price we paid, the quality does not justify the price point. It's expensive small chicken tenders with lacking sauce and indifferent staff. When your menu is limited, you need to execute properly and this location is not executing. Not sure if it's true across the brand, but there's many chicken tender spots to try and this one missed the mark

As an A Christmas Story fan I was happy to see the location decked out in themes from the movie. The restaurant itself was well done and spacious. I ordered the three finger combo and it was excellent! Texas toast was standard but toasted well, fries were nice and crispy, and the chicken itself was slightly crunchy and very juicy. I will say that the star of the show was the Cane's sauce. It was super peppery but also had a nice flavor to it. This was coupled with a super sweet but tasty sweet tea. None of hte workers knew what to do about the machine and lack of a receipt but it didn't bother my order. This location also has a new tv screen with order status based on the platform you ordered from. Helpful. We got the usual, a couple of #2 combos. One of them I got one sandiwch mild and the other spicy but both of them tasted mild or something...it had zero heat at all. Funny thing is, the color of the sandwiches looked normal from all of my many previous orders, but flavor wise, they tasted the same. Weird. Still enjoyed them. The mozzarella sticks - I ordered a 5 pack. I can tell you size wise, they are very similar to the Chili's sticks. The crunch on these from Dave's was crunchier IMHO. However, the cheese is packed less densely here vs Chilis. The cheese pull is just as good on this first try, despite less cheese inside. When I ordered the 5 pack, it allowed only ONE spice level option. I wish I could've gotten some medium and some spicy etc. Not very sharing friendly. The staff was super friendly as usual. Dave's is a lot like Raising Cane's, but with the ability to customize the spice level of the chicken. I opted for Dave's #3 ($13.99) so I could try both a slider and a solo tender. The pieces of chicken were very good. They had a nice exterior crisp covered in a flavorful heat, with a juicy, tender, pull apart inside. While I preferred the sandwich, it definitely could have used more slaw. As far as portions...for me, two sliders is likely too much, but I think I'd be unsatisfied with one, so the #3 was a good option. Similar to Cane's, the fries are crinkle cut. I prefer the dusting of seasoning on the Dave's fries, as I find Cane's to be overly salty. I do wish they had more options for sides...for instance, a nice refreshing cucumber salad, potato salad, cold bean salad, etc. would be great with that chicken. I happily dipped my extra tender and fries in the Dave's side sauce...no need for ketchup, though they do offer it.
