Dave's Hot Chicken is probably the island's best fast food restaurant. We came here for dinner after I left my day job for the last time. It was late, and we didn't know if it was going to be open. To my surprise, it was. Most places outside of downtown Newport seem to close pretty early. These guys have the spot where Plant City used to be. When we walked inside, it was pretty spacious, and there were a couple of customers. High ceilings, so it's kind of echo-ey inside. I'm a big eater, so when I saw the menu full of things like 2 chicken tenders and the like, I was a bit worried. Turns out, I needn't be. My friend ordered 2 chicken tenders, and they must've came off the largest chickens in existence. I ordered the 40 chicken bites, which must've been hilarious to some people back there, since it's under the "Feed a Crowd" section of their menu. Anyway, I think they make the food to order, because it took several minutes before our order was ready. It wasn't a long time. And honestly, I got impressed by that. You don't find a lot of fast food places that are making the food to order. Second thing that I found impressive... they serve their chicken on top of toasted bread. Why do I find that impressive? Because the toast absorbs extra moisture, and because toast is mostly air, it provides a layer of heat insulation. 40 bites. At the end of the last chicken bite, the chicken was still hot. It's a beautiful and genius move. I got mine with the medium hot sauce. It's not burning hot, but it still builds up pretty well over the course of 40 pieces, and honestly, I like tasting my food underneath the heat anyway. This is currently my favorite fast food spot on the island. My only regret is that they don't have a location close to where I live. read more

I ate the tender, and glad I didn't order the tenders meal. Although meaty and flavorful, it was a tad too dry and definitely needed the sauce addition to give it some moisture back! Since the closest one was in middletown, RI we visited this location. The exterior of the store has interesting graffiti style art work so you won't miss it. They have a good size parking lot for parking. Inside is pretty spacious and clean and their logo of rubber chicken is shown. There was no one there so we went to order our food at the counter. Unfortunately they didn't have the fallout collaboration goods anymore at the time we went. We got a combo with their 1 tender and 1 sandwich with fries and chicken bites with mike's hot honey sauce and a drink. They give you multiple level of spiciness option and I chose mild spiciness. Drink we got was from a fountain so we went to get some noticed that some weren't restocked even though the place just opened when we went. Probably they don't maintain the fountain drinks that much. The combo came with one hot chicken sandwich, one tender with a bread, pickles and sauces. The chicken was well seasoned, tender and right amount if spice. Their signature sauce was good as well. Everything else was pretty average. The chicken bites were ok. It was 18 piece but had bunch of crumbs that didn't even have any chicken in there. Service was quick and relatively good. Overall it's a decent fast food joint. Could use more work on maintaining the fountain machine and fix the chicken bites to actually include some chicken meat in all of its pieces. If i were to come back i'll stick with the combos and take it to go. read more

When I checked out their Rhode Island location, I had the intention of doing what I do best---sampling beverages. I heard they have new top loaded shakes and burstin' slushers, but I was told that I had to try the hot chicken too. Well duh, that's what they're known for. So here's the thing about me. I love anything sweet, and the mango slusher with strawberry popping boba and the Oreo top loaded shake def met that need. I am however not a spicy girly. Anything more than mid BBQ is too much for me. However, I reallllly loved Dave's Hot Chicken! Their chicken slider is perfectly balanced with slaw and when eaten with some fries, left me as one happy girly. This all paired with a sweet bevvy, well it's perfect. You gotta get to Dave's. This location is bright and inviting and the staff is very sweet and helpful. I had a great experience. I might have gone for their cool beverages, but man did I stay for that chicken. I've been wanting to try this place since they announced they were opening. My first Nashville Hot experience being in Nashville has tainted me on every version I've had since, so I wasn't coming in with high hopes. The place is brightly colored inside and out, so no fear of missing it. The people working there were very helpful and nice. I read a couple of reviews here critiquing the service, but this was not the case for me. I got a hot and extra hot sandwich to test the waters, particularly after learning their reaper option required a waiver. I have a pretty good heat tolerance, but figured I'd play it safe. Spoiler alert, I could have done the reaper and will try it next time. The chicken was cooked well, the fries were nice and seasoned and they came out pretty quickly. One of the workers there recommended trying some honey on the chicken and the balance of sweet and heat worked really well. I'll definitely try them again. While the establishments in Nashville don't have much to worry about, this was as good a Nashville hot as I've had in southern New England so far. read more

As a portly guy who enjoys a self deprecating large portion, the two tenders and fries were more than enough. I had half a tender and enough fries left over to enjoy later. The heat level was good. Some places will claim spicy but fail to deliver. I can handle spicy, I ate the hot with no issues but the extra spicy had me sweating. The street art is gorgeous, hometown nod to the US Navy and windmills and farming industry makes this haunt a must for dine-in! Music is targeted for my age group, VH1 specials - we ate every bite! Was super excited to try Dave's for the first time and it was awesome! Service was excellent especially for a fast food spot, the manager was excellent, gave us extra Dave's sauce and even brought our food to the table. The inside was very clean and spacious with a really cool vibe going on! They have a drive thru and offer online ordering on their app to review reward points! Surprisingly Great Spot! I had no idea this was a fast food place, it felt way better than that. The food was super seasoned and full of flavor. I loved the chicken, though it was a lot! Delicious, but I definitely needed a nap afterward. The combos are solid, and everything tasted better than I expected. Prices were a little on the higher side, but they give you plenty of food, so it's hard to complain. Service was generally quick, and the place is open a little later, which is a big plus. He seemed to be the type of person that actually cares for their job and tries to actually do their job to the best of their ability, something I don't see too much of where I live (hint, it's not Rhode Island). In typical Dave's fashion, the food was good but not spicy at all. I got the two sandwiches with the fries, one sandwich being mild and one medium. Despite my weak spice tolerance, it was about as spicy as a banana. The Oreo milkshake I got was really good and the chicken nuggets were good too. That Dave's sauce in general pairs well with most of the things on the menu. Food is pricey in typical Dave's fashion but for good food in a clean establishment with friendly service, I can't complain about the price. All I'm saying is that the bathroom was very clean when I went there. They even had those little scented balls in the container and you could tell they actually care about trying to keep the place clean and pleasant. 10/10 would come back but I live hours away so it's not likely. read more

Slow service, inedible food. It took over 25 minutes on a Weds. night to get two fingers and a slider. The back seemed fully staffed and there were no deliveries listed on the order board, nor any drive-throughs. The few people inside also seemed to have long waits. The fries had a ton of salt on them; anyone on salt restriction should skip them. The chicken seasoning (both mild and medium) was also too salty to enjoy. We asked for pickles on the side, but they overlapped the fingers and added more saltiness. The "kale slaw" was cole slaw with a single piece of kale on it. On a positive note, the servings of chicken were a good size, and the chicken was both crunchy and juicy, just too salty to enjoy. For people who like super salty food, and are prepared to wait for it, this might work, but not for us. read more
