    Fill Up Box
    Cyl C.

Date of visit: August 20, 2023 Location: Next to a Starbucks Parking: Free parking in the lot behind the restaurant Seating: Indoor and some outdoor seating available Offerings: Chicken Meals/Combos Sides Desserts Drinks Etc. Selections: Fill Up Box We decided on getting this option since it had chicken piece (one leg, one wing, and two breasts), biscuits, fries, nuggets, and four different sauces, which were BBQ, Ranch, Honey Mustard, and KFC sauce. It was a nice variety to split between the two of us and we definitely had enough leftovers to last for the rest of the week. My only thing was wishing there was more crispy bits or at least crisp to the nuggets just like how crispy the regular chicken pieces were. Chicken Nuggets Combo Included nuggets, biscuit, side of choice, and a drink. Hubby wanted to get some extra nuggets on top of the ones that came in the Fill Up Box and it also gave me a chance to get coleslaw since that is my favorite KFC side and the orange soda that was available there in their soda dispenser. Experience: Finally stopped by this location after the hubby was craving a few hours before the storm was suppose to hit our area after coming from mass. The place was almost empty due to the upcoming storm and we were assisted by a worker that definitely didn't look like he was enjoying being there at the moment. But he took our order and we had our food within a few minutes and were back on our way home to beat the storm.

LOL this is really a low budget KFC place and it definitely does not deserve the area it has. I use to come here and the guy (normally has AirPods in his ear) NEVER messes up. He was very chill. But I guess they hired new people who need to know their menu more efficiently. Anyways I always order the same thing, which is the Big Box Meal #6. I got home and had saw that I was missing colesaw. I called the place back and they said I could come and get. OKAY SWEETHEART THAT ALREADY IS 20 min drive, but I really wanted my colesaw that THEY FORGOT TO INCLUDE, so I went back. The lady said that we ordered the 3pcs Chicken Combo and that it comes with no colesaw. She said that we told her we wanted the 3pcs Chicken Box and she said "yes but we have 2 of that and when I asked u what side did you want, you said mash potatoes." NO GIRL YOU DO NOT HAVE 2 types of the 3pcs Chicken combo. YOU HAVE A "3 pcs chicken BOX" and a "3psc chicken COMBO." How is it that the boy always understood the difference and you cannot?? COMBO AND BOX ARE DIFFERENT WORDS. And yes we did ask for mash potatoes for the extra side, BECAUSE THE BOX COMES WITH COLESAW SO DUH OF COURSE WE WOULD ASSUME IT COMES WITH IT. THAT IS NOT IT. For her inconvenience of knowledge of her own menu, and for us driving BACK for our missing item and their lack of knowledge, she did not warm up our food. We said "could you warm it up because it's been 40 mins and it's all cold." And she said "no I can only warm up one of them, which is the one missing the colesaw." LOLOLOLOL f that so we asked for a refund. It's funny how they can't reheat our food for THEIR INCONVENIENCE and they would rather THROW it in the trash. LOL definitely writing to Corporate about this behavior. The refund took about 10 mins because the manager was no where to be found. The manager didn't even show any sympathy or care. ON TOP OF THAT ALL, a woman came in and told them that she was missing a corn in her item LOL. Like man, yall really suck that much? How is this place still open?? THEY do not know the difference between the word box and combo so just be careful for that and make sure to get a receipt because they don't like to give you one. KFC ON NEW ON ALHAMBRA HAS BETTER SERVICE BECAUSE THEIR ACT COULD NEVER COMPARE TO HERE!! :)

Hot Honey Chicken 3 Tender Basket with cole slaw and biscuit
    Frank O.

I was surprised to see only a 2-star average, but after going there I think 2 is appropriate given the service and lack of bathroom cleanliness. We came at 8 PM on a Friday, and there were a few other parties also there. It was ~4 minutes before we put in an order, and then another 5 before we got our food. Which was a 3-tender basket with the Hot Honey Chicken, a side of Cole Slaw, and a biscuit. Of course the biscuit was delicious, it smelled like butter and tasted like it too, fluffy and warm, just great. The Hot Honey Chicken was fried chicken with a sauce that was part mild hot sauce and part sweet (I would not describe it as honey sweet), slight twang, slight sweetness, with the spiciness being the dominant flavor. The cole slaw is a bit better than at other similar chains (like Popeyes).

I talked to a man at the South Pasadena museum and told us that Gus's is the oldest BBQ establishment in California, serving hungry patrons since 1946. They haven't been in business in over 70 years for nothing! Thought it's been a long time, the place is still well maintained and updated so it still is nice and clean, but still keeping its historic core. The restaurant sells itself as an East meets West, New York Style, California Vibes establishment, and it achieves this effectively. I came by with my daughter on a Saturday afternoon. The inside, see photos, is clean, well organized, filled with TVs playing sporting events, and sporting an open kitchen, and a self-serve beer and wine bar. I especially liked the pizza boxes available to take extras to go, as well as other conveniences easy to grab. After resisting the many delicious looking beer options, I ordered a personal Manhattan Meat lovers pizza ($14), a crisp, well constructed small pizza with excellent crust, no flop, and multiple meaty toppings. My daughter had the Shrimp Scampi with Linguine ($18), which included a trio of garlic knots. The pasta was cooked perfectly el dente, was exceptionally lemony and garlicky which I can appreciate, and included six large shrimp. While the sauce could have been a little thicker I thought this was quite good for a pizza and beer place. Everything was made fresh. The staff was friendly, made good recommendations, helped us get a to go bag, delivered food as it completed with a smile, and overall seemed quite happy to be there. Prices, above, I found to be quite resonance for an independent chain offering food of this quality for sit-down. Mamma's was a surprising hit, offering great food and casual vibes at a great price. No doubt, I'll be returning with the boys for a couple pies and to enjoy the many drinks on self-serve tap - froyo for the old, yo! Food: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 4.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Value: 4.5/5

We ordered a spaghetti and meatballs, and it was delivered without the meatballs. Huh. Got fixed. Meatballs are delicious. Better than Charlie's Trio (where it seemed too heavy on the breadcrumbs, which made the whole meatball soggy and meh, although I prefer the marinara sauce at Charlie's - it's sweeter. Mamma's is more tangy, which my partner prefers. Anyway......saucy tangent aside...). We also got a mushroom/spinach pizza which was delicious, and an appetizer of toasted cheese ravioli. They gave us some free garlic knots to start. Delish. You order at the counter and they give you a number. The tables were moderately clean. The (very nice) staff member who came to our table when we realized there were no meatballs asked us to dig under the noodles to see if the meatballs were...hiding? We earnestly asked him, "Do you see any meatballs?" because, I dunno, maybe they were really tiny meatballs? We collectively concluded that there were no meatballs, so some delicious meatballs was brought to our table posthaste. Solid service. They also have this pay-by-the-ounce system of beers, which I had never seen! I've seen it with wines. It's like pinkberry, but with beers! This seems like a great idea if you want to try a few different beers. Might do that next time.

The outside is iconic as ever; the outer decorations was one of the primary reasons I decided to save this place on my list. The parking situation was a bit hectic, as their primary lot in the front is extremely small. After we found street parking, we found out that there was additional parking for the restaurant in the back. Nevertheless, after parking, we went inside of the restaurant. The inside fit the theme of the outside very nicely, as both were tiki/Hawaiian themed. We had discovered that they offered 15% off of your meal if you're dressed in Hawaiian prints, and we all joked that we could have gotten a big discount! We sat in a booth and placed our order. The restaurant was fairly busy and there was one guy working the floor. I felt bad for him, as he looked like he was running around everywhere. However, when it took about 30-40 minutes for our food to come out, I started to feel fairly impatient. The DineLA menu wasn't extensive but it was a good deal for $25. Also, the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The brussel sprouts were good, the patty melt was equally good, and the pineapple upside down cake was also okay. The sandwich definitely needed something to cut the fattiness, and I opted to use the hot sauce on the table. Would I come back to Canoe House in the future? I think so, but definitely not for DineLA again. I think thats what made the restaurant busy. Either that, or they really need to hire more staff during times like these.
