    Chocolate chip cookie

Almost a year since I last step foot into KFC in Waianae. I had a chicken craving again. As soon as I stepped foot into the establishment I was greeted right away by the friendly female shift manager. I was looking at the menu board deciding on what to order when the shift manager asked if I was ordering for a family or an individual. "Individual," was my response. She said "All the fill up combo meals comes with a drink and a cookie." "May I have the 2pc combo please. Original chicken. Half Mountain Dew and half fruit punch for my drink," was my reply. I paid for my transaction and waited for a few minutes. I received my 2pc combo and drink then left the premises. The 2pc combo consisted of one drumstick, one thigh, biscuit, small mashed potatoe, chocolate chip cookie, and a cup fountain drink. There was a packet of honey and butter for the biscuit. A spork was provided for the mashed potatoe or chicken since it was hot to touch. Big difference from a year ago. I love that the drinks are part of the combo meals now instead of paying $1.00 extra for the drink. 93/200

After driving along the coast for a bit, we decided to checkout the golf course. Plus I was a bit hungry and of the restaurant was open, we'd dine there. When we first got to the parking lot for Makaha Golf Course we weren't sure if they were open because there were very few cars parked. However, when you ge tour and start walking towards the club house, the view of the mountain range right behind it is spectacular. Upon walking in to the golf course is the Lililoi Lounge with people enjoying a beer and a game and others dining on the patio. We were greeted from the bar and was told we can sit anywhere. We decided to sit in the patio. Before I sat, I headed to the restroom towards the back of the clubhouse. The clubhouse does need a bit of tlc. However walking towards the restroom, I saw the stage and band equipment so it seems they have regular events. But because I'm the area wasn't currently in use, the AC was off and this portion of the clubhouse was a bit stuffy. Interesting enough, the restroom did have the AC on. Although the restroom area is clean, again, it needs modernizing compared to the other golf courses. And it felt a bit eerie in there for some reason so I quickly washed up to get out of there. Despite the clubhouses current condition, I still feel it has its nostalgic charm to it. Walking towards the patio where my sister was seated, you can't help to take in the ocean view, well kept greenery of the golf course with the Waianae Mount range as the backdrop. Browsing the menu, they cater well to the locals and of course it has your golf course morning and afternoon meals. Everything is fairly priced. I got the friend noodle combo with meat jun while my sister got fish and chips, like we didn't have enough of that while we were in Seattle and NZ on the last 3-months. Noodles satisfied my craving. Mac salad was Ono and so was the meat jun. it was a lot of food, so I brought home the meat Jun so i could eat it with rice for dinner. Sister's fish and garlic chips was really good too. When our server brought the check and cleaned up our table, my sister asked her about the instruments. The server said they do have events there and that evening was karaoke night and invited us to join the festivities. But honestly, o just wanted to go home and take a nap. Yup, kanak attack. Servers were super sweet and friendly and you know this is on my list of recommendations to family and friends. I'll be back for sure.

But this was the opposite, the burgers (Smash & Shrimp) were both very good and delicious. Fries were on point as well. Our server was hella chill and good on checking in for anything we needed. The drinks were also quite tasty and not overpriced, it's nice to find a good local eating and drinking spot in Makaha. If you're a tourist there are only a few other places out in Waianae with food and alcohol and Lanterns/Lilikoi Lounge are both far better food and service compared to the Beachhouse 604 - this was night and day experience, at 604 the view is great but that's about it.

We dined there for lunch on a Monday, so naturally, they weren't too busy. We were seated right away and our drink orders were once we were seated. I decided on one of the specials of the month, White Wash. It was a refreshing mix of watermelon juice, cucumber, mint, and vodka. The bartender didn't skimp on the vodka! You can get a free kid's meal with every entree. The nachos count as entrees, and I was definitely feeling the nachos so we ordered the Lobster Nachos and the Mauka to Makai Nachos. With the Mauka to Makai Nachos, you get a very generous serving of poke nachos and kalua pig nachos. Neither plates disappointed. There were cheesy chunks of lobster on my nachos with diced jalapenos scattered on top. The poke was so fresh, and what made the nachos even better were the fresh house made tortilla chips. My kids had the mac and cheese, and cheeseburger meals. The mac and cheese was creamy and velvety. The cheeseburgers had that nice char-broiled taste. Kids eat well at Tavern! The customer service was excellent and with a view overlooking the ocean, I am looking forward to dining at Lanterns again.

Unfortunately, they don't have an elevator, which was a little difficult for my grandmother who was with us. However, we were still able to make it up the stairs slowly but surely. It wasn't busy at all but there was only one waiter/bartender. He was very kind and efficient, but I could tell it was a lot for one person to wait on the whole restaurant! It meant ordering was a little slow, but understandably. The food itself was delicious! The burgers were amazing, honestly would be on a list of top five burgers on the island. The mauka to makai (half kalua pig, half poke) nachos were amazing. The won ton chips were to die for. We also grabbed a mini purse drink - which is definitely enough for two to share! Such a fun concept and actually how I heard of the place. Besides the slightly slow service, no elevator (which sometimes, cannot help), and the AI generated menus, this place is amazing! Plus, a nice view while you eat.

To set the tone, a lady walked in just before me with 3 dogs off leash that were better behaved than my children and all calmly waited outside after she walked in. It was fairly empty, and a family was seated, with a couple kids near their table that were running around when we got in, and 2 old guys were at the bar drinking. They sat us immediately at a huge table in the corner, so we had no wait. I ordered the Hawaiian plate and my wife and daughter got some sort of chicken plate that came on skewers. I think my son got the steak. This damn food was the best Hawaiian food I had on my whole trip, and my wife and daughter said it was the best chicken they ever tasted. One of the old guys was friendly and wished me a happy Father's Day and complemented my family. For anyone that's a firm believer of hole in the walls being the best food and/or is sick of chain restaurants with no character, definitely check this place out, the food was incredible and it was oozing with personality. I miss coming to this spot with family to get plate lunches when we lived down in waianae, but since we haven't been to this location in a while we finally made the attempt yesterday from Kapolei to come down to Maili. I'm happy we did because the pastele plates we got was 1/1 mild and spicy with Mac salad and 2 scoop rice. The meat was tender and savory giving you the correct amount of flavor with seasoning and balance. You can tell they put the heart into making these. Although there are many variations to Pasteles this one is my favorite. The Mac salad is good also better than other places I've tried. The opihi I also brought and added my own sauce to it with and enjoyed it with their Hawaiian Style (Inamona) poke on the side. My only recommendation is the panadeja was more of a pulled pork look and of course that's what it is but I was looking for more of a stew consistency of which it was not. Now don't get me wrong the flavor wasn't lacking and was juicy but it was just shredded pork inside and you can see couple of black olives that's it. I will still purchase them but a slight upgrade would be nice to those, just my opinion.

(formerly S&S Thai Kitchen at Ka makana ali') My affection for this restaurant is boundless, and there are countless reasons why it stands out as my favorite island eatery. First and foremost, S&S Thai Mini Mart commitment to quality and sustainability is unparalleled. An impressive 70% of their produce is sourced directly from their own farms in Kahuku, ensuring that every dish is as fresh as it is flavorful. The absence of MSG in their cooking is a testament to their dedication to health and authenticity, making every meal a guilt-free indulgence. As a vegan, dining out can sometimes be a challenge, but S&S Thai Mini Mart has always been exceptionally accommodating. Their willingness to customize meals without hesitation is something I've always appreciated. Whether it's adjusting dishes to suit dietary preferences or experimenting with new flavors, their customer service is top-notch. The soul of S&S Thai Mini Mart is undoubtedly its owners, Tammy and Jason. Their love for the community shines through in everything they do, from the warm welcome they extend to every guest to their efforts to give back to the island. Moving to Nanakuli, they've not only continued to offer their authentically authentic Thai dishes but also expanded their menu to include Korean specialties and a variety of market items. This expansion has only added to the charm and appeal of the restaurant, making it a culinary hub for both locals and visitors alike. Let me add they have a good selection of authentic seasonings, sauces, noodles and such. We picked up a thing or two while we were there. Oh! They also have ox tail and other meats and fish! Fresh (frozen though) and very smartly priced. The food was as delicious as ever. I ordered Yellow Curry and Pad Kee Mao. I ate the curry there and it was so creamy, rich and satisfying. The right balance on onions, carrots, potato's oh, my goodness. The Pad Kee Mao is for tomorrow! Spice level four this time. I opted not to go Thai hot this time around. My husband ordered Chicken Pad Thai, his usual at a level one and he said it was spot on. He also ordered spring rolls which he said were savory, not overly oily and seasoned to perfection. It has to be said - S&S Thai Mini Mart is more than just a restaurant; it's a celebration of Thai cuisine, a testament to sustainable farming, and a beacon of community spirit. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and experience the magic of S&S Thai Mini Mart. You'll leave with a full stomach and a full heart. A couple of things to note, they have one table that can seat six. I didn't think to ask Jason if they were planning on more tables. I will say everyone who came in ordered their food to go. They have online ordering which is a breeze with their QR code or you may go to sandsthatkitchen.com DoorDash and Uber Eats are also available. Their hours are seven days a week 10am-8pm. They are right behind McDonals right on the end of the shopping center. 87-2070 Farmington Hwy When you go tell them Deb sent you and enjoy!
