After picking up my car from the shop, I wanted to take it for a drive and so I headed out west for some fresh air. After driving along the coast for a bit, we decided to checkout the golf course. Plus I was a bit hungry and of the restaurant was open, we'd dine there. When we first got to the parking lot for Makaha Golf Course we weren't sure if they were open because there were very few cars parked. However, when you ge tour and start walking towards the club house, the view of the mountain range right behind it is spectacular. Upon walking in to the golf course is the Lililoi Lounge with people enjoying a beer and a game and others dining on the patio. We were greeted from the bar and was told we can sit anywhere. We decided to sit in the patio. Before I sat, I headed to the restroom towards the back of the clubhouse. The clubhouse does need a bit of tlc. However walking towards the restroom, I saw the stage and band equipment so it seems they have regular events. But because I'm the area wasn't currently in use, the AC was off and this portion of the clubhouse was a bit stuffy. Interesting enough, the restroom did have the AC on. Although the restroom area is clean, again, it needs modernizing compared to the other golf courses. And it felt a bit eerie in there for some reason so I quickly washed up to get out of there. Despite the clubhouses current condition, I still feel it has its nostalgic charm to it. Walking towards the patio where my sister was seated, you can't help to take in the ocean view, well kept greenery of the golf course with the Waianae Mount range as the backdrop. Browsing the menu, they cater well to the locals and of course it has your golf course morning and afternoon meals. Everything is fairly priced. I got the friend noodle combo with meat jun while my sister got fish and chips, like we didn't have enough of that while we were in Seattle and NZ on the last 3-months. Noodles satisfied my craving. Mac salad was Ono and so was the meat jun. it was a lot of food, so I brought home the meat Jun so i could eat it with rice for dinner. Sister's fish and garlic chips was really good too. When our server brought the check and cleaned up our table, my sister asked her about the instruments. The server said they do have events there and that evening was karaoke night and invited us to join the festivities. But honestly, o just wanted to go home and take a nap. Yup, kanak attack. I was very impressed! I worked in the restaurant industry, and I'm not easily impressed by a lot of the food at restaurants these days. Usually it's overpriced and not very good. But this was the opposite; the burgers (Smash & Shrimp) were both very good and delicious. Fries were on point as well. Lilikoi Lounge is definitely one of our favorite spots in Makaha Valley. We're regulars, and at this point it feels less like going out to a restaurant and more like stopping by to see friends. The staff is a huge part of what keeps us coming back. Summer, Carrie, Reydel, Sadie, Malia, Bishop, Greg, Roz (to name a few) are awesome and always make us feel welcome. Great service, plenty of laughs, and that comfortable local atmosphere that's hard to find. And the food! Some of our favorites are the country smash burger, pupu steak, poke (from fresh caught Ahi) and short ribs. The new pork chops are really good, and the loaded omelette is definitely worth coming in hungry for. Of course, we've also managed to create our own unofficial drink menu. My drink is the "Trish-A-Rita": jalapeño tequila on the rocks with a side of soda water and lime. Spicy, refreshing and perfect. Mike's is the "Mike-Tai": fresh pineapple juice over ice in a tall glass with dark rum floated on top. Simple and dangerous because it goes down way too easily! But what really makes Lilikoi Lounge special is the people. Came on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for lunch, it was a hot day but immediately felt cooler when we drove into the valley. It was my first time here, never been in Makaha Valley before, and I've lived here my entire life...it's beautiful! They have indoor and outdoor seating and there was only one server Sadie, she was so sweet and friendly! Saw someone on IG highlight their Shrimp Burger, so that's what I ordered. It did not disappoint! It was delicious! A deep fried shrimp burger with sauce and cabbage slaw on a big brioche bun. Every bite and I mean every bite to the last bite had shrimp in it and not ground up shrimp but whole pieces of shrimp. Served with fries, I devoured it! My husband had the Lahilahi Special and added the Lilikoi Chicken, it came with Meat Jun, fried noodles, Mac Salad! It was tasty! I was in the area and looked up restaurants and decided to try this place out. It's right on the golf course beautiful view but the only thing is when I ordered my food all I could smell was a wet rag smell which was kind of a turn off. They need to just use sanitizing wipes instead of a dirty rag because that smell was awful. So they lost 1 star because of that. I ordered the shrimp burger because I saw a TikTok about it and it was nice and hot and if it was made right I know it would've been so much better but my shrimp burger was unfortunately slightly burnt which sucks because the bread and sauce was good the fries were amazing but just the shrimp patty itself had a burnt flavor and a little tough because it was overcooked which is why I knocked off another start :( I'll give them another try I wanted to get the Lahilahi special. Went there with my Ohana for lunch today. The ambience was mellow with local contemporary Hawaiian music videos playing, it was great! We ordered some of the items from their menu and everything looked really good. We had the Mauka to Makai Nachos, Spicy Ahi poke bowl, Beachboy Burger and the Kalbi Short Ribs. They were all great tasting. Our server, Jhovana, was very courteous and attentive. She was always checking in on us to see if we needed anything else. We really appreciated her. What didn't go well here? Everything was amazing. We got here shortly after the rush of golfers, os so we were told. But it was nice bc really no one else was there. The servers were still super attentive and helpful with menu selections. What I loved most was that the prices are not outrageous like most places can be. I was surprised that the Tumbleland Special came with a good amount of meat juhn. The shrimp burger also had a huge shrimp patty. The Kim Chee fries are so worth the $2 upgrade and come on some kind of white cheesy sauce that was so bomb. You can earn reward points by providing your phone number which can be also used at Lanterns which we learned is their sister restaurant. Our latest and greatest breakfast/brunch joint on the west side. I've been here a couple times so far and it's an absolute treasure. I have been ordering the breakfast items, such as their Lilikoi pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage. My parents are absolutely raving about the shrimp burgers, which are clearly homemade with giant chunks of shrimp and are a great deal. Compliments: Service is excellent. The girls are on top of it, the kitchen is consistent, and the owner or manager is on site and visible. It's clean. The building is vintage 60s and it's definitely showing it's age in a few places, but they did a great job with cleaning and freshening the place up. The food is GREAT. Everything I have ordered has been fabulous. Parking is easy, even if the parking lot needs to be repaved. I would like to point out some missed opportunities that are not detriment to this place, but could be opportunities for growth: I love the Lilikoi pancakes. I really cannot understand why they are served with (slimy) corn syrup. The missed opportunity here is to serve them with real maple syrup or even Lilikoi syrup. But please, ditch the corn syrup slime. The music. The first time I was there, they were playing some country countdown thing on the television. It was a little loud and made conversation difficult. I know the acoustics in there are not the greatest, but I think they could play some nice background music, such as bossa nova or Hawaiian instrumental or classical guitar to add to the atmosphere. The view is spectacular, some soft, relaxing music would make breakfast or brunch even more enjoyable. Signage. There could definitely be some signage pointing patrons to the proper entrance off of Makaha Valley Road, and from the parking lot. If you've never been there before, it's probably a little difficult to find. The tables. The indoor tables are some sort of perforated/ slotted plastic. They're cute now, but they could get a little funky over the next year or two if food were to get stuck down in the cracks and crevices. A tablecloth would not be the worst idea. and tablecloths would be a nice opportunity to add additional color or a pattern or theme to the cute orange chairs. There are some really fun neon colored Hawaiian prints that are very retro that could make the place even cuter. A more defined hostess stand or entrance signage where it might say, "please wait to be seated" or " pick a spot" etc. you walk in the entryway and it's just not very well defined. Plants!!! Even fake plants would add some color and interest to the pillars in the corners or on the tables. Some nice, fake potted trees, some nice fake potted greenery strategically placed... It adds color and interest. Or real plants are also great. read more

Not mad, just disappointed. We have been wanting to come here as we live Lanterns but as an old school server, I know not to head to a new restaurant until they work out the kinks. I thought we had given it enough time but no. I'll explain the three stars: service is 4 stars, our actual server was amazing. A lady from New Zealand. She was attentive and had great customer service. However there was no hostess stand or sign saying seat yourself so as you walk in, first impression is uncomfortable like you're walking into someone's house uninvited. There is no obvious place to wait until being served so you just stand in the doorway. The food is 3 stars. It was priced surprisingly very well. Three of us got out of there with full bellies for $45 before tip. Two cups of coffee, two virgin bloody Mary's, ramen, pancakes with bacon and a loaded omelet. I had ordered a side of potatoes but when they came not only were the portions super small but it looked over cooked greasy and thrown in the plate. I felt bad but I had to let the server know I wouldn't be eating it. I should have taken a photo. The ramen was ok. I loved the pot it comes in. The pancakes and bacon were really too! Zero complaints. Very happy with the fluffiness, texture and taste. The omelet was closer to dennys than we'd like and the potatoes it came with were cold and tasteless as well. As for the dining experience, it's more cafeteria that restaurant with dirty carpet, lined up rectangular tables, dirty broken overhead fluorescent lighting, clutter everywhere, handprints and mystery smudges all over the windows so you can't even enjoy the view outside. We won't be back. Not mad because the price was aligned with the experience but disappointed in the Lanterns brand. read more

I've been here many times now and have not at all been disappointed. My favorite drink is the watermelon mule, which is just sweet enough and very refreshing. The poke nachos are THE BEST we have ever had. Seriously. As I'm typing this, my mouth is watering thinking of them. The chicken wings, lumpia, and fries are also yummy. We are staying on the leeward side of the island and wanted a nice breakfast. We found this place on yelp and went due to the good reviews. It is located at the local country club. My sister had the steak and potatoes while I had a made-to-order omelette with hash browns. Here potatoes were somewhat charred and they brought her a replacement dish. The staff was very attentive and pleasant and food very good. This appears to be a place frequented mostly by locals (my first clue to finding good food) as we were the only tourists in sight. read more
