Great little spot in Port Townsend to have an authentic Thai meal. Prices are good and service also. I've eaten here a number of times.

I ordered the fried vegetable rolls and the lemongrass tofu. Both are labelled vegan on the menu. The veggie roll and the salad that came with the lemongrass tofu were a bit simple. I think they could use an additional vegetable. The tofu and veggie rolls were fried very well. The rice was perfectly done. The lemongrass sauce was very milky, rich, and sweet. The salad that came with the tofu had these strawlike chutes that tasted very floral and I didn't really care for that. Overall I think it was good food. The restaurant was also well decorated. Also, the menu said "we do not use MSG in our cooking." I think they should include it. It's a great spice. I hate that anti Chinese sentiment made MSG wildly unpopular in the US, but I love MSG. read more

I really dislike writing a negative review, but the lovely restaurant was so disappointing for me. My husband enjoyed his meal, he regularly orders and enjoys a 4 spice level. I don't. I ordered my dinner at the 1 spice level ( though I usually get a 2) and received an otherwise tasty soup that brought tears to my eyes. When I asked the staff if this could be fixed, she reported that it could not. I could reorder at my expense. I was told "you ordered a mild and that is what you got!" We won't be back. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for 20+ years. I had not been for awhile as this town has changed so dramatically the past few years. Yesterday I ordered my go to Tom Yum, Ka Bong and white rice. Besides the exorbitant price for lunch, it was the first time I got physically sick from the food. The soup smelled & tasted so horrible, and had all this inedible pieces in it but I tried to go with it. I ended up being physically sick for over 24 hours. I can no longer recommend this place and the service is equally as awful. read more

This is a very nice Thai restaurant. We arrived on a Sunday night around 5:30pm and were quickly seated. We started with fried vegetable rolls that were one of the best we've had. We also got shrimp fried rice and pork drunken noodles. The shrimp was cooked perfectly but the pork was a little dry. But the flavor of both dishes was terrific. Visiting for the day, wasn't sure what food looked good. The ratings for the area were not high for seafood but this Thai restaurant had solid reviews so we gave it a try. Service was quick and efficient. The young girl was serving 5 tables at once, very knowledgeable and friendly. Great personality and had great recommendations. The food blew away our expectations. We ordered the Pad Thai and a curry. The curry sauce was phenomenal with a spice level of 4. The pad Thai was solid, no complaints. We even had a custom chicken dish not on the menu that the chefs were able to make for us. We've tried Thai food all over the east and west coast. You will not be disappointed. The food here was incredible! We've had Thai food regularly in Seattle but the flavors here were subtle but very satisfying. We ordered the Gai Yang Cornish game hen (2 stars) having never seen it on any other Thai restaurant menu. The first bite was exclamatory from both my wife and I, tender, not dry, the curry sauce blending with succulent meat and crispy skin beautifully. Each subsequent bite was as good as the first. I also ordered the Dungeness Crab fried rice over my wife's protestation. I've made fried rice since high school potluck years ago, having learned from my mother and grandparents. Ive drummed into my kids, never order fried rice at a Chinese restaurant, fried rice is like the Chinese Hamburger Helper. Well, this is not your grandfather's fried rice. There were subtle flavors I still haven't figured out! This Thai fried rice is unlike Chinese fried rice, and my wife had to agree, it was worth it. Had a quiet late lunch here on my own after a day of touring the town. Service was excellent and my food was perfectly tasty, just a cucumber side salad, and a green salad as I was feeling dehydrated on a warm day. Absolutely refreshing and fresh, hit the spot. The room was lively but not overly loud and the decor was traditional and lovely. My parents and I came in for a late-ish lunch on a Monday. It was a bit confusing at first because there are two differently named Thai restaurants next to each other but they're the same and connected by a hallway?? Either way, the table aesthetic was very cute. Our young waiter was nice but was busy enough to forget a few things when asked, but again, he was busy. Coming from Pierce County, yes prices were heftier ($5 for Thai iced coffee??) This was a trend around town so I wasn't too shocked by then. Our food was really good though: fried rice, pad see ewe and the "crispy" garlic chicken breast, although the latter wasn't crispy, and it was packed with citrus flavor, it was the table's favorite! Small town ethnic food can be hit or miss. This is definitely a huge hit, with many vegan options done in an authentically Thai manner. We were stopping the night in Port Townsend and looking to do some takeout. It turns out they can do almost everything on the menu vegan, including all their curries, stir fries, and noodle dishes, with a choice of spice option (1-5), choice of protein (between soft and fried tofu for the vegan options), and a choice of rice (unless a noodle dish). We did a red curry, rad nah, and the cashew stirfy fry (each $15 plus tax, cooked at level 4 out of 5 spiciness). Everything was scintillating. The red curry was rich, complex and had wonderful flavour depth, with lots of vegetables. The rad nah was perfect -- cooked with that light-ish, savoury Thai gravy and wide rice noodles. The cashew dish comes primarily with broccoli, as well as red and green peppers, and mushrooms -- wonderfully done. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this place. This is everything I want in Thai food and more. Highly, highly recommended. read more

I used to come here in high school and it has been many years since I last visited Khu Larb but I am happy to report that it is as good as I remember! The restaurant itself is cozy and romantic with rose leaves at all the tables and the staff is very welcoming and accommodating. For food, you can never go wrong with the pineapple fried rice, pad Thai, or the spicy eggplant. On this trip tried one of their specialty noodle dishes in a curry/coconut milk sauce and topped with crispy noodles and it was delightful! read more

When I go on road trips I try very hard not to visit the same restaurant twice. Seriously, it's part of the foodie protocol, right? But whenever I'm in Port Townsend I'm drawn to Khu Larb by some magical force. The few times I've tried another establishment I've ended up disappointed. So on my most recent trip I didn't even look to Yelp for a lunch alternative. We got off the ferry and headed directly for Khu Larb! It's a leisurely 10 minute stroll from the ferry dock to Khu Larb, assuming you don't get distracted along the way by one of the many adorable shops along the main drag. It's located just a block off of PT's famed Water St., and it's a large place (though I've never seen it packed). The decor is a bit dated, but don't let that scare you away. The food is AMAZING. We sat at a socially distanced table next to the window, ordered some bevvies (including a Thai Iced Tea which my daughter loved), then dove into a couple of plates of appies before the star of the show arrived: their Chicken Pad Thai. Yeah, I know, EVERYBODY orders CPT at a Thai restaurant. But there's a reason: it's freakin' delish. And here, dare I say, it's phenomenal. The noodles are fried to the point of almost being brown (but in a good way) and there's abundant chicken and spices. I literally found myself craving their CPT a couple of nights ago and gave serious consideration to taking another two hour journey to PT! We also got the Cashew Chicken Salad, which was topped by a tasty house-made peanut sauce and featured super fresh veggies. It wasn't my favorite, mostly because I don't really like peanut sauce on a salad, but you can't win 'em all. My parents have been coming here for about 20 years- this place is a must have any time theyre in town. This was my first visit. They were set up for dining in service but weren't super busy, covid and all. A bunch of folks came in for take out while we were there and my mom said it's usually super busy. The ambiance was really nice. The dishes, silverware, tables, were nice and gave you a real Thai feel, not cheap restaurant feel. Our drinks came quickly- water, Thai iced tea and a watermelon bubble tea. All delish. We got a bottle of water with a stopper for the table/ felt very hygienic. I always appreciate having extra water on my table so you're not just at the mercy of your server. We ordered our food at level 2 spice but it wasn't spicy at all. We could have easily gone with a 3. (Menu calls that hot and a 2 medium). We ordered yellow curry with tofu/white rice, drunken noodles with prawns and Rama with chicken/brown rice for our mains and the Thai wings for an appetizer. The wings were super tasty and served with a side of sweet chili sauce, but we only received 4. The menu didn't specify how many you would receive and it doesn't seem like much, esp since they charge $9.50 for it. I know chicken isn't expensive and I feel like for that price you should get like 8 pieces or something. It was crispy and delish, just a super small portion. Of our mains, the yellow curry was my favorite hands down. So yummy and flavorful. I could eat that for days! The drunken noodles were pretty tasty but I could have gone for a few less onions, or maybe cut smaller? I would probably stick with pad Thai next time, but the flavors were still delish! The Rama was good- it's not that exciting of a dish lol, but you can't go wrong with peanut sauce, spinach and chicken. While underwhelming, it was solid and tasty. The leftovers will be great. The rice was fine, although I wish the bowls were a bit larger to match the amount of sauce with the curry and Rama. I will definitely return and look forward to trying more items on the menu! Been here twice now and I so impressed with their menu! Every dish I've had has been perfectly balanced with sweet, salty, creamy and delicious. Our first visit we had the fried cream cheese and crab wontons, Panang Curry (spice level hot), and one of the specialty dishes - Kow Soi. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Food is fantastic. I love Port Townsend, and going and finding new restaurants is so much fun. I haven't been let down yet! I'm a sucker for peanut sauce and pineapple fried rice, so when searching for a new spot, I found both on the Khu Lara menu and knew I'd found our lunch spot! We came in on a Saturday at about 1pm. The restaurant was busy, but not full. As the times with COVID, it looks like they have removed some tables to better allow for social distancing. The inside is dated, but well kept. The staff was kind and helpful, but never came by to refill drinks, which is a bummer. The food was really good. I ordered the chicken salad and it came slathered in peanut sauce and I loved every second of it! The pineapple was good, but not great. Very little pineapple, and it had a strong tomato paste base taste to it, which made it almost sticky. Still good, just really different from the PFR I'm used to. Surprisingly, Port Townsend has a few highly rated Thai restaurants in town. We got there around lunchtime and it was not busy. We were seated right away and it was excellent service. The crispy garlic chicken was good and loved that it came with broccoli. The shrimp pad thai was excellent, very flavorful. The green curry had plenty of veggies and was great with rice. We shared everything between three hungry people and were quite full. If we weren't so hungry, I imagine we would have had leftovers. The dining room has plenty of seating and I felt good eating in since we were able to sit further away from the other parties. I highly recommend Khu Larb Thai. read more

My family is visiting Port Townsend form Northern California. All the food was mediocre at best, but the chicken pad Thai our daughter ordered wasn't edible. No one in our party of 6 enjoyed it. My partner advised our wonderful waitress how disappointed we were and sent that dish back. The manager on staff refused to take the dish off our bill, instead offered 25% off that dish. This was a nice first meal in Port Townsend. We were walking around town and chatted with a local who recommended Khu Larb Thai. I'm always down for Thai food, so we headed over there for dinner. There was a line outside the door, which we realized was for those waiting for their takeout. It seemed like a busy spot for takeout, as the entire time we were there, people kept coming in and out for their grub. Yet, they are offering dine-in services. Since we had our dog with us, we sat at one of the two tables outside. My boyfriend and I shared the larb. For his entree he had the tom yum noodle soup while I had my favorite Thai dish, the khao soi. It didn't take long for our food to arrive. The larb wasn't bad, but it was definitely heavy on the seasonings. Usually when I've had larb, it tends to be a lighter dish, with just ground chicken, lettuce, onions and some veggies on the side, which this dish had as well. Yet, it could've used less of the salt and pepper on it, to really taste more of the meat. But it was good from the lime juice. Pretty much the same deal with my khao soi. It was saltier than I would've preferred. I mean, it wasn't bad in the sense that it was inedible, but definitely would've liked to have tasted more of the curry than the salt. It was a hearty dish though, and did like that I could choose a different protein other than the traditional chicken. Beef is no upcharge, which is what I chose and would recommend, as it was tender. The bowl that the khao soi is served in is split, so it had the toppings of the khao soi on one side, which is fine, but it made for the actual dish harder to eat. I would've liked it better if it was in a regular bowl, to be able to spread the toppings more thoroughly with the meat and noodles. But I enjoyed my dinner. Not too shabby. Everything was flavorful. And I do like that there's a Thai spot in the downtown area of Port Townsend with outdoor seating and friendly staff. Just less seasoning on the dishes and it'll be much better. read more
