I've never eaten vegan food before, I'm usually a medium rare steak man. My wife and I found this gem she needed a veggie fix, and they did not disappoint. Friendly service smack in the middle of everything. Food was flavorful and we stuffed our faces. I didn't even realize I enjoyed my first fully vegan dinning experience. It was amazing.

My husband and I were on a date night in the old city and we are opposites when it comes to food; so we decided to come to Marble City so we could each get something we enjoyed for dinner. I knew I was coming to Kianga's Kitchen because I was here once before and LOVED every bite of my meal. I knew I had to get the collard greens again, and I knew I wanted to try new dishes, but I loved the three choice I had before--so that was difficult! I walked up to the counter to look at the menu and the young man standing there asked if he could help. I told him my situation and the two dishes I was debating between (the walnut meat and the cabbage). The man was so nice and said "I'll just give you samples of each so you can taste them." I love that they not only do this, be encourage it too so you can try their food to know you're getting something you want. I got my two samples and knew I had to get both. So I ended up creating a small plate with cabbage, walnut meat and collard greens. I admire the bold flavors this restaurant uses to showcase vegan fare and just how delicious it can be! The only downside to this visit was that I am allergic to gluten and mushrooms--I completely forgot to ask if any of the dishes I got contain either so getting sick was on me. I looked up the dishes and saw that walnut meat is often cooked with mushrooms and/or soy sauce (which has gluten) so I'm sure that's the dish that was the culprit for me. However, that will not cause me to avoid coming back. I just will remember to ask about my allergies next time ;)

First of all the young man at the counter was great! He seemed happy to work there. He was pleasant knew about the food and was happy to make recommendations... I got to try the greens, cabbage, sweet potatoes, mac & cheese, and black beans and rice. Also had the sweetened hibiscus tea... Everything was good but my favorite was the red beans and rice and vegetables. The portions are large and the flavor tastes good and you can tell it's healthy, not too much oil and just enough seasonings. Nothing was overly salty or overly sweet. Definitely must try your vegan or even just trying to eat some good comfort foodand not feel way down and heavy afterwards. I would definitely stop by when I'm in the area again. The ambience is like a mall food hall/cafeteria... Perfect to stop by with friends or kids as there's plenty of space for little ones to walk around. There's also a full service bar attached and lots of other options to eat if others want to try a different type of cuisine. 5/5!

Delicious!!! I met one of the owners of the restaurant-- he shared with me the way the restaurant came to be and his journey into veganism. Biting into this food felt like coming home. I had a wonderful experience eating the food from here. I ordered Mac and not cheese, ground neat, fried polenta, sweet potatoes, akara patties, and hot sauce on the side.

Thankful to have a reservation, we were promptly seated while others with no reservation were being told three hour wait times. I loved the vibe of Tupelo, the hanging lush green plants on the side of the bustling kitchen, the cheerful staff and the lively music. Lizette was our server and she was just a darling. It was our first time here, and she was so helpful with her all of her recommendations. One of Lizette's favorites was the "Peach, don't kill my vibe" sangria. Which I just loved. I nice mix of peach and pineapple in a sangria. For our mains, we had the grilled harvest chicken and the chicken tenders. Both mains came with two sides. With my grilled harvest chicken, I got the mashed potatoes and the braised bacon green beans. The green beans were to die for, even my hubby was saying he should've ordered that as his side. The harvest chicken I loved--especially the sautéed spinach, red peppers and tomatoes on top. But if you can't handle spicy, this dish does have some heat to it. And we ended my birthday celebration with the heavenly banana pudding. It was heavenly in every way. Made in house, and so delicious that even my hubby ate it and he never cares for this dessert. If I could've licked that little bowl, I would've. We already cannot wait to come back and try some of the brunch items on their menu. We loved everything about Tupelo and hats off to Lizette for making our night even more special!!

When we made a reservation on the website there was no mention of a pre fixe menu. Not on the website, and not with the reservation. We went intending to get light appetizers, but when we arrived we were told that the only option was a 55 dollar per person menu. While we were annoyed by the bait and switch we decided to stay because there was no chance of getting a table anywhere else. I'll start by saying that I Know that Valentine's Day is historically very busy, but over half the tables in the restaurant were empty, and I've been in significantly busier environments where I still received a high level of service. In this instance, saying that we were dismissed by the staff was an understatement. My wife was sat while I was parking, and when I joined her I wasn't even acknowledged by the staff. We asked one question the server who was dropping off the food snapped at us and acted extremely irritated that we even addressed her while she dropped the food off. We asked for tea because we knew that was one of their specialties. The response that was snapped back was "no tea tonight, if you want drinks go pay at the bar, it's separate." The table beside us seemed to clearly be VIPs as the were in fact served several pots of tea. All in all the staff made us feel like we were an inconvenience and they didn't want us to be in the restaurant. The exception was a very nice server wearing a light colored dress, she was very kind, which only made everyone else's disdain all the more evident by contrast. The food itself was just ok. Course 1: salads, it had fruit and fresh vegetables. It was excellent. Course 2: zucchini and eggplant with beef. It was well cooked but the sauce was extremely bland. Course 3: chicken stuffed with liver. This was gross, not even edible. Course 4: leg of lamb with rice. Once again the meat was well prepared, but it here was almost no seasoning. The rice that came with it was undercooked and kinda tough. Course 5: It was listed as braised beef brisket, but it was just an unseasoned pot roast. I expected Mediterranean food to be presented with a significantly more interesting range of flavor profiles. Course 6: Baklava, really great! The layers were crisp and the flavor was smooth. All that to say, it wasn't anywhere near worth the cost, I went for a light dinner and only had the option of buying a heavy 6 course menu. Other tables were given service and we were treated as an annoyance. The location was very convenient, so they have that going for them... which is nice.
