KickStand Kafe is perfect for anyone on their way to Arizona Snowbowl or the Flagstaff Nordic Center since you can't help but pass by it. Parking is limited and it gets busy during winter mornings when there is snow on the ground. Fortunately for me, we haven't had snow in a while and the mood is pretty mellow this morning. From local art on the walls to leather couches to furniture branded with the Kickstand logo, this place is totally Flagstaff. They support local business, partner with the Nordic Center, and the space is big and open. Weekday mornings will typically see a bunch of business people having coffee meetings. Its proximity to one of the local high schools also means it is a favorite haunt for those students willing to venture off-campus. My guess is that the art on the walls is mostly from high school students. The staff is friendly, smiling, and bustling with the drive-through as I walk in and take a seat at one of the fantastically comfortable leather chairs. Think La-Z-Boy. Stools and regular tables are also offered and most of those seats are cushioned as well. The music is a light hipster-pop kind of thing going on. I don't know the artist, but it is catchy. They keep the volume low enough that it doesn't disturb my thoughts and no headphones are needed. The dark roast is indeed a dark, full bodied coffee. Perhaps a little on the lighter side, but pretty tasty. - I am NOT a coffee aficionado. Just a guy writing about a coffee shop. - Though it comes in a nondescript to-go cup that leaves a little to be desired, especially since I am not taking my beverage to-go with me. I enjoy the various types of mugs that a lot of places will use. The cheap option works too, I guess. Not a big deal. A small coffee will set you back $2.41, which puts it in the higher end of the range in town; typically I expect $2 or less for a small. Not a big deal for me, since I won a $10 gift card from The Framing Department on one of their email promos, my coffee is free! The food/pastry selection is pretty light today - it looks like they import their foods from local catering services and bakeries. My guess is that they are due for a delivery today or tomorrow. Foods include Breakfast burritos of several varieties, nachos, fruit & yogurt, and those tasty little sandwich-roll-things. They also serve Gelato - though I am not clear on where it comes from, it is pretty likely it is done somewhere in town. The windows face mostly East, which means I can sort-of watch the sun rise over the neighboring buildings. The place goes from completely empty to busy in about 30 seconds when a large group wanders in from the cold outside and takes over. The open layout of the space makes for excellent people watching and evesdropping, not that I would do that... ;-) Wifi is free and the password is posted for all to see. It's snappy - especially with just me using it. Combined with the comfortable seating, this place is absolutely a great place to kill some quality time surfing, writing, reading, whatever. There are also strategically placed power strips to keep your various devices powered up and connected. Kudos! Overall, definitely a classic Flagstaff coffee shop and recommended. read more

This was my spot every time I was in, our near, Flag (we even made special trips to visit), all because of their veggie burrito. They used to make it vegan for us (subtract egg and cheese), but we were told today that they will no longer "customize" our burrito to make it vegan-friendly. We were told they are now pre-made. I assume that also means they microwave them. They lost two loyal customers today. We have recommended so many friends to visit there and even brought several friends. The coffee is good, I guess, but I take mine black so any coffee will do. There are several other coffee shops in Flag we've been wanting to try, but always remained loyal to Kickstand. So now, the hunt is on to our new go-to spot. read more

I have been here twice as it is close to my office. I love the ambience and the concept. However twice now the item has not come as stated. Either provolone but menu stated it was cheddar. The noise level can get pretty high because the ceilings are vaulted and everyone echos in there as they try and talk about the noise being made by everyone else speaking loudly to be heard over the loudness... it's a never ending cycle! I would not have cared if I had headphones or wasn't trying to focus on an online test for my classes, but I had no headphones and I was taking a test so that was sadness. The coffee however was DELICIOUS. So good. Free wifi is also fantastic, but the coffee was seriously very, very good. I used to love this place but the past few times I've been there the services SUCKS!! Today I ordered the turkey and Brie sandwich when I pulled up to the window the brunette behind the counter looked annoyed was rude and carried on a conversation with a coworker the whole time I was in the window totally ignoring me. When I didn't tip her because her service sucked she giggled the tip can hanging in the window. The boy who made my sandwich and gave it to me was just as rude opening the window and saying "here" as he handed me my sandwich which cost 8.25 for only a sandwich. I'll never go there again! Came into this cute coffee shop and was greeted warmly. I asked about their "frozen frappes" and was described each flavor possible, which is perfect for me. This frappe cost about $5 which is expensive, but was worth it to me at the time. There was a cute water station and the overall decoration was cozy enough. They close at 6pm, which is too early for many college students, so maybe their target group are older people...overall I'll be coming back though! read more

This place was walking distance from my friend's house so I stopped in. I wish I hadn't. I arrived around 7:30 am and only a few people occupied the tables, which I felt was odd for the time. The cashier wasn't very welcoming and gave the impression I was interrupting her. I asked for half decaf and half regular coffee but was told they don't have decaf. What coffee shop doesn't carry decaf?! I was offered half Americano instead which is no where near decaf. I told her black and waited nearly 5 minutes. When I got it the barista put half and half in it but I said, "BLACK." I had to wait another 5 minutes for her to re-make it. The cashier thought I said half and half. Mind you it was quiet and slow. While I was waiting I watched the cashier play of her phone, completely disengaged from her work. Overall, the place and cashier left a bad taste in my mouth or maybe it was the coffee? What a great place! We are in town for the weekend, and needed some coffee. (Being on the wrong time zone..... coffee was a must this morning!) We stopped in here and loved it. The barista was lovely. She answered our questions and was very personable and welcoming. Kickstand Kafe has something for everyone, whether you like traditional dairy products or alternative.... they offer many different varieties to suit your needs. The baked goods looked scrumptious. They have traditional baked items and gluten free options as well, made by local people in town. I splurged and got a gluten free muffin and a large cafe ole, and was extremely pleased. Would absolutely go back! As a matter of fact..... I'm sure we will go again tomorrow morning. read more

Originally we were heading to firecreek cafe but they were closed. Good for us because we came here for our caffeine fix. We were not disappointed either. Parking wasn't much of a issue. Service was fast and we were greeted by a very lovely young woman with platinum short hair. She was incredibly beautiful. But back to the delicious coffee. I like my coffee dark, bold and flavorful. That is exactly what I got. Made my trip to Albuquerque that much more better. Definitely will be coming back on my next trip for more coffee....I also bought a bag of whole bean Danger Monkey....absolutely delicious. read more

I have been coming here multiple times each week during the summer and have LOVED the coffee, burritos, and breakfast sandwiches. Overall I have seen a major decline in customer service. The first few times service was outstanding with friendly engaging staff. The past two weeks staff is unpleasant. If you're going to charge a 12% additional charge for service make sure it is up to par all the time not just sometimes. I have been visiting less due to inflated prices because of the undeserved service charge. read more

However they don't use local beans besides one drip variety from Single Speed which is great but when serving they automatically use the Illy (not local) without asking for preference. I hate to give this only one star, because I used to really love this place years ago. My primary complaint is about the staff, or some of it anyway. Horrible millennials being employed to run places (into the ground), are the reason I've had to give bad reviews of other places as well. Businesses, PLEASE stop hiring 20-somethings to wait on or deal with the public in ANY WAY! They're just awful. While having my bagel and coffee at Kickstand I sat and had to overhear the bubble headed counter girl chatting loudly with a customer, presumably a regular, about her menstrual cycle and how she had to remove her tampon through her shorts! I mean WTF! I can't stand these horrible kids. They have no concept of customer service or any earthly idea how to conduct themselves professionally. She also talked about which customers she liked and didn't like, etc. I won't be going there anymore. As a professional writer and as someone who has been employed to travel and reviews restaurants and hotels, all I can say is you never know who may be a customer, or secret shopper, etc. Not good. I'll never return to this place, which is unfortunate, because their food and beverages are decent. Stop hiring idiot millennials!! Very nice place to hang out after going to the snow with the twins. It has nice comfortable couches and a cool space. We actually stopped there twice, before and after sledding. The coffee was good, one of the scones was not very good. My little boy didn't eat it, I tried it and it was way too dry, he devoured his gelato, yes the boy wanted ice cream after being in the snow. Service was ok, sometimes a little dismissive. It is nice to know we have a good spot, where we can stop anytime we go to Flagstaff. read more

I am not super impressed with this place. I have been there twice. First time the employees were nothing but nice, this second time the guy who took my order (beard) thought he was the coolest thing since sliced bread. I asked for a capp with soy. His response, you know the soy does not produce a lot of foam. I said, thank you I realize that but that's ok. Just do your best to make me a damn capp with soy and make as much foam as possible. I can make plenty of foam at home on my espresso machine. Shit. His response, so you want a latte then. I said, NO, I asked for a capp. There is a difference between them and I prefer the Italian way even if it has less foam due to the soy. Sorry kid, I know my coffee, shit I have even lived in Italy. Although I asked for a capp with Soy and a 20oz (so not Italian) do not change my order and pretend you know what you are talking about. I like my capps not Latte's which have MORE milk. Capps are 1/3 of each espresso/milk/micro-foam. Basically a drink of 3rds. Latte: 1 part espresso to 3 parts milk. I like capps regardless if I am not 100% proper with it. So don't change my order without asking. The coffee was mediocre at best and not really HOT, it was lukewarm. My guess is all the extra milk for the Latte not properly heated to 160F. Not sure I will be back due to his cocky attitude and less than fabulous personality. The soy foam in my drink had more personality than he did! Sorry I came in to bother you with my coffee order, crazy me thought it was a coffee place. That's ok dude, won't happen again!!!!! read more

What a great place to come and study! Kickstand is seldom packed, always friendly, and the noise is pleasant. Raegee fdiday? It's more than a thing at kickstand. The art on the wall Is consistently changing and intriguing. The drive thru is super convenient and surprisingly fast for a ma and pop coffee shop. You can even ride your bike through when it's slow enough. The owner is around more often than not, and the manager is always smiling. It's easy to get to know the employee body, mostly because they are regular people like me and you. The coffee is changing always as well, as far as their drip goes. But you can always count on the classic illy medium Italian roast. If you are a creature of habit, then you can always count on their specialty drinks being consistent. I recommend the fixie varieties, or the endo, or the Marley. Have a nice day! Bang Bang! read more
