Before there was Kickys, there was Boston Market. Before Boston market there was Roy Rogers. Having said that, this was a very odd Asian restaurant with the structure of a Boston Market. After deciding to investigate it after 1 year of driving past it on trips back home to celebrate my graduation and getting a job. We were surprised by the nice modern decor inside, which is surprising given the stores past. The menu features a mix of Thai, Malaysian and Southeast Asian dishes. The papaya salad was good as well as the chicken stir fry and pad see ew. Given the modern cuisine, I can't see the restaurant gaining a good following among traditional families. I have passed by this place many times. However, I never paid too much attention to it because it looked like a Burger King converted into a restaurant. Today decided to check it out and I was pleasantly surprised by the decor on the inside. The place has a very contemporary look and it's a nice place to bring your friends and family to. The service was great as you are greeted with a smile and the wait staff is exceptional also. The food is where the place falls short in expectation. The Tiger roll was great, but the Ribs were average and so was their Penang Curry. Still I think the place is worth a visit as it's a BYO and that always helps in this economy. My favorite place in the area is Ganga, if I give Ganga a 9 then I give this place a 7.5. No matter what, the good has to be exceptional! What a really neat Asian-Fusion restaurant. I love the mix of Japanese, Tai, and other asia throughout the menu. Shumai was nice, sushi was fun, some of the apps were really good. Kicky's is one of those places that you might just drive by and not give it a second glance, however...what a surprise once you get inside. I had been meaning to try it for years and just kept passing it by! The evening atmosphere in here is really cool and modern. They have great large round booths that have high sides (for privacy) and you feel like you are the only ones in the restaurant along with another "glass" seating area for a larger party (at the back of the restaurant). The prices are amazing, with dinner specials Mon-Thursday that can't be beat. Portions are large and the food is solid. Love the BYOB as well. Service is "ok" (not terrible) and staff are not super friendly, buy the food,prices and atmosphere outweigh the service and staff, in my opinion. It would be perfect if they could only work on that... If you are in the area, a great choice. They also have lunch specials which are a great value as well! read more

My mom had been raving about this place, so I decided to treat her and my sister to dinner. We ordered the coconut soup. It was actually very tasty... until I bit into a piece of glass. Luckily it didn't cut me but it did hurt my teeth. They took the soup off the bill gave us a discount. I did tip the waiter, who was very nice, because as someone who works in food service, I know it was not the waiter's fault. I will not be going back though. I live nearby and always order here. They don't offer delivery so take out is the only option. I placed an order over the phone and was told it will be 45 minutes. I arrived 45 minutes later and was told it will be a few minutes. The girl asked I wait in the car and she will call me when it's ready, so I agreed. After waiting in the car for 30 minutes and seeing people walk in and get their food, I walked in. The girl didn't say anything and when I asked about my order, she asked who the order was for, and then she told me it will be another 15 to 20 minutes. This is now almost 40 minutes waiting after the initial 45 minutes. Took me 10 minutes just to get a void receipt because she is taking new orders while I am in front of her waiting for the order to be voided. This place lost a loyal customer. No respect for my time and the attitude/lack of respect is completely unacceptable. Not even an apology. Regret giving them business over the years. I suggest if you are looking, save yourself the disappointment. There are other good places in the area. read more

I've only started going here more frequently for sushi within the past year. For what it is, I'd say it's only really worth going here for sushi on their 40% off days (Mon and Wed). I ordered a spicy crunchy salmon and a regular salmon roll. In terms of quality, the rolls seemed pretty standard for this area- not so incredibly amazing, but also not bad at all... and for 40% off it's pretty worth it! But on any other day a spicy salmon/tuna/yellowtail is 6.95 when in most sushi places around this area serves those rolls for usually 5.50 for pretty much the same quality. My friend ordered their chicken fried rice (which was also 40% off along with noodles on these days). She loves it, but I found it to be too salty and the rice seemed too saturated. The food is very much satisfactory but I would only really come here for my sushi fix on Monday's or Wednesday's. read more

Ehh, what's to rant & rave about? I tried this place out because of the rating on Yelp, but I was deceived. The other reviewers make a big stink about exterior being a turnoff, but it's typical of asian establishments around here. There aren't many that actually look nice on the outside. The outside could stand to be improved I guess, but the inside is clean and modern. The reason behind the 2 stars is the service, or lack thereof, and the food. First, I walked in the restaurant and had to wait at the front to be acknowledged despite the place being approximately 800 sq. ft and 6-7 servers. I was tempted to leave, but I stuck it out because of the reviews. Somebody finally came over and I requested to sit in a certain spot and the waiter/host/bus boy flat out said. "No." Again, I should've left, but I didn't. When we got to the table we were given menus and out drink orders were not taken for 5 minutes...and when the waiter came they tried to rush us to order entrees and appetizers. As always, when trying new asian places I stick to the basics -- I ordered chicken spring rolls, salmon tartare, thai ice tea and pad thai. The spring rolls, while greasy, were no better than the ones I can pick up from the supermarket. The pad thai was a little sweet, but was decent. While the food wasn't terrible, it's definitely not on par with their Yelp ratings. If I want Thai around here I'll stick to Thai Shangri-La. read more

We've eaten at this restaurant many times over several years. It seems to go from OK to very good, then back to terrible. Tonight was terrible. It's a heat wave and they didn't bother to warn us that their A/C was not working - it was an oven! The woman who greeted us needed several prompts to figure out that you can't seat 5-adults and a baby in a highchair at a table for four. After we got past that, we ordered apps. and food. The apps. were just fine. They came on-time and were tasty. Two of us ordered main courses with shrimp in them. The shrimp was marginal at best, one barely edible, the other returned the food because the shrimp tasted spoiled. The baby refused to eat the food - he's got a good palate. When we asked the server if she could make the place cooler, she said no. Not that the A/C was broken - which they should have warned us before we sat down. When we asked the hostess at the front, she said the A/C was broken. The place was unbearable. We all go out very early. There weren't many people in the restaurant and our server kept disappearing. Not what I'd call responsive - maybe she figured out that we were not real happy and just didn't want to deal with it. The manager was not around - I think on purpose. Overall, a very BAD dining experience. The management needs to wake up - they are at the bottom again. Coupons or not, we won't be back to Kickys for a very long time. read more

For starters, the chicken was practically raw and the manager did not feel the need to apologize after we confronted him on it. The pad Thai was incredibly fishy, with no taste whatsoever. This is the first time we have been here at their new location opposite Wyndham Place on route 34 in Aberdeen. Right off the bat the restaurant was rather empty for an early Saturday evening (6:00 pm) and it took them 5 minutes to seat us. The waitress did not automatically bring us waters as I guess that is the new standard now?. It was BYOB and they seemed like requesting an ice bucket was a big deal. On the plus side, we had a 2 for 1 entree coupon. The four of us ordered Gyoza (app), Shumai (app), ultimate roll combo, teriyaki chicken, and tempura chicken. We had no complaints with the food. Getting the check was delayed and by the time we left at about 7:30, the restaurant was completely empty. Really shocking. As result of the poor service, it will be awhile until we return. We had a wonderful Saturday night family dinner here last night. The setting was very trendy with private spaces for family. The service was superb. The food came out fast and the waitress was very attentive. The menu was vast with a great selection and good value. The food itself was delicious and the sushi was high quality. Came here about two months ago. The food was terrible and so was the service. We know how it can be at a restaurant so we decided tonight to give it another chance. We went in and more than half the restaurant was empty and they tried to sit two of us in a table neither of us could fit in. We were two big guys (athletes) and couldn't fit in the seats or the table. The hostess refused to sit us anywhere else despite more than half the restaurant being empty. So we left. Like the other reviewers, I too had decided to stop by this place after passing it by so many times. The decor is surprisingly nice and modern (not at all what you would expect from looking at the outside), and I wish they would update the structure of the building or even add some decor, it's not a fast food place anymore! But meh I'm not here to describe the looks of the place. My friend and I ordered sushi which was very good, and I also had the tom yum soup as an appetizer. I really like the variety of food that the restaurant offers. The service was average, not stellar and definitely not bad. November 2007 New comer restaurateur Po (no relationship with the Teletubbies, but equally adorable), a friend of mine, together with Chef Robert Coll, CEC and master sushi chef Ming Yu bring culinary excellence and fine dining on route 34. It offers a very clean modern French-American and Japanese menu, with an equally impressive decor to match, that aims to please and satisfy the most demanding diners. We ordered the Atlantic Salmon, Chicken Teriyaki, Salmon Skin hand roll, and Sushi for two. And for dessert, we opted for Creme Brulee, a cup of Cappuccino and some ice cream. The salmon is moist and nicely crusted. The Chicken Teriyaki is Chef Robert's reinterpretation of this Japanese staple, quarter chicken with bones fused with a hint of ginger and mixed with vegetables and Teriyaki sauce. The sushi is on par with some of the best sushi I have had in the city. This is not your also-run sushi joint. And my 8-year old Alex's verdict on the Salmon skin roll is "I like it," and that's from one of the toughest and pickiest eater. Alex also likes the bathroom experience, he has fun with the automatic soap dispenser. I digress. Since I know and love THE GUY, what I review might be biased, I don't know and I hope not. But the whole dining experience meets and exceeds our expectation. Po, don't hate me, but I do think you can use a bigger mug for the cappuccino and fill it to the top, for a second I thought that was an espresso. Except for the cappuccino, all the dishes are of ample size and generous portions, and more importantly they use fresh organic hormone-free ingredients, health nuts rejoice. Back then it was an American French slash Japanese restaurant with a lot of promise. Shortly after the New Year, Kickys dropped the French beret and put on the Pan-Asian hat, offering mostly Japanese and Thai dishes, probably as a response to the general clientle in the area. So I decided to visit Kickys and see what restaurateur Po is up to. The first time I stepped in Kickys I was really wowed by the interior design, the glass housed dining table in the center of the dining area, the circular booths, the giant projection screen. After three months, I am still fascinated by its stylish decor, I mean you don't see those things too often, do you? I know I don't. This time, our table ordered some traditional Thai and Japanese staples from the menu, like Pad Thai, Sushi, Shrimp Tempura, Chicken Teriyaki. And I ordered the Chicken with Thai Spicy Mango Sauce. I can tell the ingredients were fresh and the dishes were pretty well prepared. Of all the dishes, I like the Sushi and Chicken Teriyaki the best. The Sushi were fresh and tasteful and the chicken was grilled and had the unmistakable smoky flavor that I like. As to the Thai Spicy Mango Sauce dish, I like it all right, but I think the chef can use a bit more spice and more heat. For me, Thai means spice and heat, the more the merrier. Kickys has been kicking some serious butt in the Aberdeen area ever since it debuted late last year. After some initial hiccup with the menu, I am happy to see that they are settling down with an all Asian menu. Kickys is still a diamond in the rough, like the staff seems a bit inexperienced or simply a bit short staffed. But what they lack in experience, they more than make up in their youthful enthusiasm and courtesy. I am still very much excited by the whole Kickys experience and will definitely go back to try out some of their other dishes. read more

My family moved in town a few years ago from North Jersey, I know what good sushi should be. Lunch here is always good and inexpensive, real great deal! However, dinner entrees can be tricky. They offer all kinds of discounts throughout the week. As confused as I can get, I managed to only remember the Sushi discount (40%) on Mondays and Wednesdays and Kitchen entrees on Tuesdays and Thursdays ...also a generous 40% discount. At times, I found that some prices were set on the high side in the area, but with the 40% on the right day of the week, the prices quickly become way below what the competitors have to offer. There was a time that I went to dinner by myself, depressed with not much appetite and I ordered a Sushi combo, to my pleasant surprise, when the check came, it was only $9 and change. I rubbed my eyes and looked again, jackpot, it was a sushi day! It was just amazing for the quality and amount of food. I saw some other comments complaining about the time it took them to serve the food; admittedly, the services are hit or miss. But heck, I come for good food. If there is choice of half star, I would've given 4 1/2 stars with that half a point deducted for occasional tardy services. read more

As most people have said, this place is quite random on the outside - you wouldn't even know it's an Asian place by the name. But the inside is very well-decorated. You almost feel like you're in NYC when you go inside - very contemporary and stylish decor. As for the food, their sushi is def the BEST in the area - their special rolls are incredibly good, esp the Godzilla roll. They also have great Thai dishes, and they've lowered their prices significantly by offering specials 4-5 times/week (including 30% off all sushi on certain days). Their prices are incredible on these days....you can get a special roll for the same price as a regular roll at other places. First I have to thank all for the posts because they all really helped this newbie family in making the choices that they made last night. That said, we had a WONDERFUL experience. Living in the vicinity for 12 yrs., I can tell you that the restaurant selections in the area is VERY BLEAK, so this was a true surprise and really major for us. I have wanted to go since they opened, and for some reason never made it in, even though I pass this place on a daily basis (kick myself now for all the lost opportunities!!). Anyway, the place is beautiful inside. We sat at one of the round, enclosed tables off to the right when you walk in, (having two children, one that is small and a little rambunctious, I really liked the semi- privacy that this table offered). We started off w the beef negimaki and roti starters. Both excellent! Roti pancakes had a little crunch on the outside and that signature "gumminess" to the pancake, but the accompanying sauce w veggies was so good. It had just the right amt. of heat. and spices in a peanut based sauce. The negimaki was also excellent- thin sliced beef wrapped around scallions and then doused in a thick, rich, sweet sauce- excellent! It came on a bed of field greens. My daughter was even eating the greens w the residual sauce from the beef, lol! Dinner was def. the star here. The kids had the chicken teriyaki and the chicken katsu. My husband and I were shocked at how generous the portions were and at a very reasonable price of $4.95 each. He even remarked that it would be a perfect lunch portion for an adult. They both came w a choice of fried rice or french fries- both kids could not finish their meals. I tried a little of both and they were delicious! Even the rice that my daughter opted for was excellent- and I don't like fried rice! On to ours, we ordered the kicky's boatie. Yes it is huge and we barely finished it (our daughter helped w the cooked items), but it was by far the best sushi we have had IN ALL THE YEARS THAT WE LIVE HERE! So fresh and cool (but the perfect amt. of chill to the fish), and such generous portions. The sashimi pieces were cut at least twice the size of any sushi from anywhere else we have been to. The rolls were also enormous and very creative, (lobster roll and the chefs "special roll"- the one w the fried shrimp inside, were incredible!!). I also had as a drink, (as one reviewer recommended), the tea w honey and orange and it was excellent! It came in a glass, hot w orange rind and sweet w honey. It was unusual and PERFECT for the cold winter night. If there was one complaint, it would be the vietnamese coffee that my husband had. He has it often in the city and this was not that great (didn't have the sweetened, condensed milk in it like it should have had). Overall, we obviously had a GREAT experience,...FINALLY!! read more

A friend of mine recommended me to come here because they have discounts during the week. So i came in for dinner on a wednesday night with my husband, and I had a male waiter, who was completely rude and brought our food out completely late. By the time I got my sushi rolls and appetizer, I noticed a piece of plastic in my Godzilla roll i had ordered. I told the waiter and he didn't believe me, so I asked to speak to a manager, and he said there is no manager is here. What kind of restaurant doesn't have a manager or supervisor on staff especially on a busy night where the restaurant was completely packed? I was so extremely disappointed. I don't know why people would ever eat here, the food was not even that good especially with plastic in it. I will never come here again and recommend everyone to go else where for sushi and noodles. read more

Oh Kickys, you disappoint me. We live within seconds of this place, and spent a ton of time and money here... at least, in the beginning. They were so good, eager to please and always accommodating to special requests. After a few months of menu tweaks and inconsistencies, we gave up. This place has gone the way of Aligado - too ambitious, without the quality or kitchen staff to back it up. Don't think I'll be giving Kickys another try. read more
