This salon advertises that they specialize in working with autistic children, which is exactly why my sister chose to bring her 5-year-old autistic son there. He was able to get his haircut, although, like many children with autism, he cried and struggled during the process. After they left, my sister received a text from someone at the salon saying they would no longer cut her son's hair because another customer complained and described him as "one of the worst clients" they've had. I find this incredibly disappointing and upsetting. If you specifically advertise that you specialize in working with autistic children, you should understand that haircuts can be overwhelming and that some children may cry, become distressed, or need extra patience and understanding. He is FIVE years old. He wasn't being intentionally difficult--he was overwhelmed and needed compassion. Instead of showing understanding, the salon chose to shame him and refuse him service. I would strongly encourage parents of autistic children to think twice before choosing this place. Advertising that you specialize in autistic children means more than just saying it--it means actually having the patience, compassion, and understanding to work with them. read more

I made the appointment through Yelp and explained what kind of cut I wanted and how short. The lady's name is Rita. My husband said she knew how to interact with kids. She had an iPad and asked what show my daughter wanted to watch. My daughter was able to watch trash truck during her haircut which I'm sure she enjoyed. Her first haircut was a success. She did not cry and she willingly got in the fire truck chair. She even got a certificate for having her first haircut. Brought my 5 year old son for a haircut today. I was informed they specialize with autistic kids, I reached out to rita and she said yes and she was aware of his autism. My son cries and screams every time he has a haircut. After the appointment I recieved a text saying she can no longer cut my sons hair because of complaints. This is unfortunate & heartbreaking. I have never felt so unsupported. There was another lady cutting hair besides rita who had such a mad face, no smiles, just looked annoyed and disgusted from my son. Shame on her. Businesses have the right to serve people that they choose. Hair salons that cater to special needs kids are few and far in between, which is why my family was overjoyed that this salon advertises as such. The last thing we expected was for our nephew to be treated as a burden rather than a welcomed guest the day he got his haircut. Not all stylists are equipped to deal with children on the autism spectrum and that's ok. What's not ok is agreeing to cut his hair and then requesting he not come back because other customers complained. That's called ableism and this shop is guilty of it. And on top of that, another hairstylist was scowling at him as he struggled with his emotions. He is five yet it's this particular hairstylist that is the one that needs to "grow up." read more

I called in the morning because it was time for my daughter to have her first haircut. Her hair was constantly in her eyes and she refused to let us put bows or do anything with it. She's very sensitive and hates anyone touching her face and head. Rita had availability the same day and told us to come on by. Took my 18 month old here today after I saw a few suggestions on Facebook for the best kids haircut place. I was really nervous because He's not great with strangers, especially with strangers trying to touch him and I didn't want to traumatize him and have him hate haircuts forever. I was surprised with our visit because it went so much better than I thought it would. He had a few moments here and there but Rita was SO patient and friendly with him. She knew when to give him breaks and how to redirect his focus onto something else when he was starting to get overwhelmed. I called and asked if they still had the cute chairs that were cars or motorcycles for the kids to get their haircuts in and was told that the original place had them but had closed down and now has a new owner but she did say she had a fire truck one and we went ahead and schedule an appointment that same day. I'm not one to leave 1 star reviews lightly. But got my daughters first haircut today. And not sure if they forgot how to cut hair in the stay at home shut downs but her hair is so uneven. The left side is about half a inch longer then the right. I'll never go here again..... and because it was cut as a bob it's already short so I don't want to get it cut shorter to fix it. Tammy the owner is great. She is why I gave 2 stars instead of just one. Recently she has raised prices and hired (or rented stations to) some people who are NOT good. It doesn't look good for the future of KCC. Tammy doesn't seem to be around much any more. The last few times I went Tammy was not there. It was different women each time and each was worse than the last. The final straw was an older woman who has zero patience with my 4 year old. Didn't listen to what we wanted. Rushed through the cut as if she needed to go smoke or something cause her hands were shaking bad It's very sad to see a small business that has been around for so long go downhill so fast. Worst experience ever. I took my 14 month old for his first haircut. Seeing this place had decent reviews I decided to give them a try. My son was very cooperative and his haircut came out as if a lawnmower lost control. So choppy and uneven. He has some really long hairs around his ears while the rest is way to short, even bald spots. I am so disappointed. Then to top it off, when we were leaving my other boy goes to move the seat they sit children on and a HUGE cockroach goes crawling to the other side of the salon. My son asked me what that was and I just grabbed him and walked away. I couldn't tell you the name of the person that did his hair because she didn't introduce herself. Very unfriendly. You would think for being a kids place they would be more friendly. My sons haircut took over an hour. He was crying and screaming by the end and she still wasn't done while the other lady was on her third kid. I would not recommend this place at all. I've taken my toddler son to get his hair cut more then a few times at kid's places. Normally he fusses, moves, and cries a little to a lot depending on the day. I do my best to calm him and hold his hands away from the scissors (if needed) and eventually he sits still and eats his snacks. Anywhere we've gone, they have been pretty understanding of his fear. They have always handled things calmly and gently. Just like they have worked with other kids who have been upset, which happens. I've seen it. It can be scary for a young child until they get used to it. We've always walked away with a good haircut. Yesterday, we walked away with a very choppy haircut and with a feeling of being rushed through the cut and rushed out. I don't expect a half hour hair appointment for a toddler, but I do expect some time to make sure that people walk away with a haircut that won't make stranger stop and ask me if my toddler cut his own hair. (This happened yesterday!) Also, someone calm who won't get visibly stressed and upset over a child who is crying. This is why we go to children's places. The environment, experience, and skill when working with children. I tried to do the things that normally would calm him down in just a few minutes. I also did all the things the hairstylist suggested because I felt she was very stressed over the crying and hoping it would help the situation and help her focus. Me going back and forth getting things, didn't help. It made things worse and made for more fearful toddler. Rushing because he was crying, didn't help anything either. It just created a really bad haircut. Since he was upset and we were on our way to a funeral, I asked if I could use their sink to spray off his head quickly since he was a mess after. Nope! Couldn't do that because he's too small. (At other places, they have washed his hair at the big sink with his cut. I didn't even need to ask) Plus, I was told that there were other people waiting. Our cut was less then ten minutes! They actually took us earlier then our appointment time and the other people had not been waiting long. I cleaned him up as good as I could and asked her to fix the back a little. I got an "I'll try." She didn't seem to care, even if he was finally holding still. She didn't ask me if it was ok...nothing. It felt like she just wanted us to leave. I thought I was very kind to her and tried not to be rude myself so I don't understand her lack of caring. I would think that when working with children, you know that crying and struggling are just part of the job and eventually they grow and are excited for hair cuts. read more

The person cutting her hair was holding the scissors without any regard where it was pointing. So I had to watch very closely. The person that cut my daughter's hair was moving very slow. It was so slow that it didn't even seem normal. She finished the haircut and one side was longer than the other so I asked her to fix it. My son has always gotten his haircut at the bx on base but I decided to try a place that was more kid friendly. Even though we were the only ones there the whole experience felt rushed. The hairstylist was kind enough to show him the clippers but didn't seem to have patience when he was moving around which led to her butchering his cut. So I used to go here and see Jamie, she did an amazing job with my sons hair and my son liked her. We brought him here a month or so back and an older woman was working and said Jamie was no longer there then continued to talk poorly about Jamie infront of my 3 year old for the duration of the haircut. Only to be followed by complaining about my son and then giving him a terrible haircut. We go back again because my son loves the cars chairs and there is a different older woman who is grumpy and rude. Not ever coming back, this place is really terrible now. read more
