I've been hearing a lot of great things about Kihei Fourth Friday and finally decided to go last week for the first time. This fourth Friday celebration is bigger than the other Friday celebrations on island. They close down the end of Lipoa St. and have a ton of food options from food trucks to brick & mortar restaurants/cafes, one of which hosts a beer garden. The food truck lot behind Azeka's is opened as well which adds even more to the lineup. They also have a lot of different vendors from candies to apparel and different stores in the marketplace. They also provide a variety of entertainment throughout the night and you'll find people singing and dancing and just having a lot of fun. When we got there we immediately checked out all the different food options. There are so many that we couldn't decide! Naturally, we did like foodies do and went with multiple different vendors. We got a taco assortment from Horhitos Mobile Taqueria, some steak from Teppanyaki 2 go and for dessert we had soft-serves from Aloha Kettle Corn. The steak was a bust and definitely regret that decision. The tacos were pretty good, but they didn't have the one that I was hoping for. Aloha Kettle Corn, they just have the best self-serve ever so that's definitely always a good choice. There are tables scattered throughout the street so we quickly found a table and sat down. While we ate there was a singer playing in the background which was nice. If you're scared of bugs, don't sit too close to the street lights because there are A LOT of them. Overall, we had a really good time and I would definitely recommend checking it out if you get a chance. There is something for everyone and that's a nice option for something to do on a Friday night. If your on Island on a Friday be sure to check out the Friday street festivals. The best one is on the 4th Friday of every month in Kihei bring your own chair (if you get there around 6 or so you can snag one that's provided). Lots of free parking across S Kihei road or down by the craft mall(no free parking in the Longs drug center) They usually have 20 food trucks/close to 40 craft booths/kid zone area/car show & local entertainment on their one stage. No alcohol is allowed but Diamonds bar is right next to the stage & you can order drinks there and sit on their patio & enjoy. It is a wonderful evening. read more

Returning to Maui, I felt like I did a lot of touring and there was a part of me that wanted to be a part of the community enjoying myself. I heard about this place and decided to volunteer, here's how my experience went. AMBIANCE: Parking: It is right across from the plaza, it gets pretty competitive so be sure to come early. Seating: There are a lot of seats provided. From the bench for foods or seats to watch the performances. Unfortunately, there's no lounge to lay your feet and relax. Feels: There are other plazas around with other eateries but one plaza is strictly closed down for this event. There's a children section with lots of games and activities with a pretty awesome DJ playing good 80's and 90's music. The live stage has great musicians and if you're lucky, some dances as well. There are plenty of food vendors with a wide range selections. The boutiques are great if you're doing some souvenir shopping. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Friendly and happy people all around. Don't be shy to ask for help! Judy is a great coordinator TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. A solid highlight to my stay here in Maui. Like your local vendor fair with Maui flavor. The food was delicious, art was beautiful, music was soothing, and the people were great. Apparently, I was in luck as these were one of the better Friday festivals. Till next time! 4th Friday is a gathering of local food trucks, shave ice and small biz selling food and crafts. I've been to a few times and you'll see the same stuff most of the time. However great evening adventure if your lucky enough to be around. Great mix of locals and tourist mingling in the early evening either shopping or listening to live music. Most tourists won't get this experience so take advantage of the island spirit. read more

Since the Maui Fair was later this year, it wasn't during our stay so being able to come to the Kihei Fourth Friday community party was exactly what I needed. Since it's in Kihei, there are probably more tourists than the county fair but a great way to hang out with the locals as well which we love. Parking is a bit of a pain and you will most likely have to park in a gravel lot about 2 blocks away so a small mag lite might be helpful to find your way through the dark lot back to your car. There are food trucks, nearby brick and mortar eateries, and local vendors for arts and crafts and some other food items, although I didn't see the pickled mango that someone else found a few months ago. The music onstage really adds to a block party feel and the Kihei Friday is probably one of the larger ones. read more

This is a great way to spend a Friday night and it's FREE! It can be challenging to find inexpensive things to do in Hawaii, this free admission and can be entertaining for your whole family. When we attended there were plenty of food trucks, clothing and jewelry vendors, arts and crafts as well as live music. I'm not sure what the venue is at the other towns but in Kihei it's in a strip mall parking lot, there isn't a lot of seating available but it's not too difficult to grab a spot on the curb or wall around the lot. Kehei is mostly a sleepy town but if your lucky enough to be there on the fourth Friday of the month, they throw a pretty good party! They have a whole row of food trucks ranging from slow smoked BBQ to fish tacos to gourmet monster grilled cheese sandwiches to shave ice and the list doesn't stop there. We opted for some street tacos that were exactly that, no truck, just street! The tacos were quite good and at three for $5 a great deal. The ceviche however was terrible and had no fish in it and it cost $7 from the same vendor. I ended up not eating it so my wife did and she got really sick and threw up all night. My advice is look for the health permits before you order, I thought it was weird this place didn't have one and now I see the connection. If I had to do it again, the grilled cheese looked 5 stars plus! The line and people's reactions collaborated that but I didn't try it myself. As we were leaving another band took the stage playing more of a honky tonk style. Lots of local vendors selling all sorts of "stuff & junk" as I like to call it. Examples are soaps, candles, jewelry, clothing... and most of it seemed to be made in Hawaii. They had games for the kids like mega-trampolines and blow up balls you could climb inside of and spin around in a shallow pool of water. My favorite was the live music stage. When we arrived there was a duo playing ukulele and bass together. They were REALLY good. Great community fair. Several booths with a lot of homemade type craft things. Shirts, hats, bikinis, shorts and lots of jewelry. The food situation is all food trucks of various items. Awesome fun! Each Friday on the island a different town hosts a Friday Party, except for that lonely step-child Fifth Friday where I assume everyone sits at home grumpy. First Friday of the month - Wailuku Second Friday - Lāhainā Third Friday - Makawao Fourth Friday - Kīhei We've only been to the Kihei party once and we hope to come to it in future trips! They have a ton of food trucks out (at least 8-10 I bet), lots of vendors and activities going on as well. The Police were also out directing traffic on South Kihei Rd so that pedestrians and vehicles were safe. These are family parties so you see lots of adults and kids hanging out and having fun. All in all this is a great idea and we might hit the Wailuku party this Friday! read more

Hmm... Something seems to be happening to Kihei Fourth Friday, for the worse. As of September 2013, almost half the food vendors have stopped coming and have been replaced by more seating, the craft vendor area is way less occupied, and the crowds have thinned out too. The beer gardens are still going strong, but the food is just as important, so we probably won't be back for October 2013. read more

I've been to First Friday in Wailuku and Third Friday in Makawao but Fourth Friday in Kihei is bigger and better than those other two. There's a lot of vendors selling local made good like clothes, soap, and jewelry. I really like how many food trucks are there (maybe 20) so there's a LOT of food to choose from. Note: Teppanyaki2go is one of the food vendors so if you always miss them (they got crazy hours) in Kaanapali you can finally get them here on Fourth Friday. read more

Ok, well a couple of things happened to me with this whole 'fourth friday' thing that really chapped my hide. So it's written up in Maui's local paper as a big deal. I'm a mainlander and I want some local flavor. I read all this stuff about how it's supposed to be a really big deal.....great food, great music, kiddie entertainment. So me, Mrs. Nacho and little Nachito roll down. First, I followed senor garmin to the mall where they hold this thing. It is PO-DUNK. In the middle of nowhere of some windy little back road. The mall isn't even a mall. Isn't even a strip mall. So we start looking around. Don't see anything. Go into the coffee shop and the two girls working there have no idea. Go into several other stores and finally get the story that the whole 'Fourth Friday' event has been CANCELLED!!! Why?? Because of rain. Two hours ago...at 4pm, there was rain. They cancelled the high school marching band. They cancelled Amy Hanai'ali'i Gillium. They cancelled the radio DJ. They cancelled the face painting. They cancelled the balloon making clown. They cancelled the roach coach food tasting caravan...because two hours ago...THERE WAS RAIN?!?!? I wanted to tell these Mauians...it's Hawaii...there's rain! It's warm. Get over it. So the rented flood lights were left in the parkinglot. The tents were folded in a corner. Cuz it rained. We wanted to get something to eat at some of the fabulous restaurants featured on the website...but they were all PO-DUNK. I didn't wanna ruin little Nachito's vacation with food poisoning, so we were forced to get back into the 8-4' Impala and roll over to the Shops at Wailea where there is food that adheres to the health codes. You really should put a disclaimer on your website and flyer. If it rains, we are cancelling, because we are Po-Dunk. Then people could plan accordingly. read more

My boyfriend and I hit up Kihei Fourth Friday after a day of beach hopping. I found out about the event when researching things to do on Maui and took a look at their website. The event is free, family friendly, and there is a large variety of local food trucks, vendors, and live music on site. We arrived around 7pm and found parking at a lot across the street. For food, we tried Sumo Dog's guava hot dog. We were disappointed by Jaws' fish taco, but luckily Coconuts Fish Tacos (also on our must-visit list), was just around the corner. There was a donut vendor we wanted to try too, but they ran out of the flavors we wanted by the time we went back for dessert. Since there's not much night life on Maui, I would recommend Fourth Fridays if you're looking to stay out for some local fun. Went to Kihei Fourth Friday last night. What a blast. Great for the entire family. Kids enjoyed the Rainbow Bubble Guy... HUGE bubbles, how fun is that?! Also DJ cranking the tunes with 30 plus hula hoops for the kids, face painting, games, bronco bull riding and more. Plenty of local vendors for arts & crafts, jewelry etc. Many food trucks and food vendors. 2 stages with live music and a Hula show. We have been to all the Fridays and the one in Kihei is the largest with the biggest turn out. Found parking just south of Times grocery store near church. This event is really cool. I love to come and get food here . The event i feel should be longer however . It all seems so rushed . Also my favorite food truck aloha thai fusion isnt there anymore for some reason . Maybe there to busy now but sure do wish they would come back. I'm so glad the lady we rented the condo from told us about this!! Tons of great local food and art vendors as well. This was the last night in Hawaii for me, and I had still not found a place for pickled mango (we had some at the start of the trip) Thankfully there was a stand here, so glad I did! The Kihei fourth Friday festival is the place where I did most of my shopping for gifts to take home. If you are looking for some great gifts to take home for your family and friends there is a vendor at 4th Friday Kihei town party who sells beautiful sea glass necklaces and fabulous charm bracelets for $5. They also have Maui leather bracelets for 5 dollars. Hand carved bone turtle, dolphin and fish hook necklaces and for $10 each! These guys have the best prices on Maui. You can find them in the second row over from the stage. Just look for the yellow table skirts. Also, the ice cream bars from the hula cookies cart are sooo sooo good! read more

We're visiting from off island and was recommended by a friend to check out the fourth Friday in Kihei. We walked around and got to see a lot of different craft vendors, unfortunately majority of them were very expensive. Live music was great!The food trucks were awesome! Great place to buy small gifts for friends and family. The Kronosada donut from Dynamite Donuts is delicious!! I kind of felt sorry for my family that they didn't order one. It's not that the maple bacon or Oreo donut weren't good it's just that the Kronosada is in a league of its own read more

Too bad, it is no longer a nice evening due to screaming toddlers that run back and forth in front of the band, then the Stage Moms with their young girls trying to 'dance' in front of the stage, ick. So impossible to enjoy or even Hear the bands. Fewer and fewer craft and food venders each month too. I can see why, it has become weird and a bit creepy. We and our friends won't go again unless we hear some changes have been made. read more

K4F is great. We have 22 food trucks/tents and 60+ vendors selling their wares. There are 2 beer gardens and 9 restaurants and great entertainment. Food regulars are Smoke & Spice - wonderful smoked meats, Jini's Fijian Curry, Coconut's Fish Tacos, 808 Street Grindz - THE best grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever had. I can't name them all. Not enough time. There is a huge Keiki Zone with the own DJ. One of the best town parties on Maui. read more
