They drank the sodas and i still didnt have my drink. 4.- We could not order appetizers or food until drinks came.. i was wtf is this? 5.- We finally placed the order after my drink came. 3 appetizers and 1 full plate. 1 appetizer came and the server was, how was the food.. i said what food. She went back to check as at this point is kind of obvious they dont talk to each other. 6.- Appetizers came, but we had 0 plates or forks and guess what, we had to ask for them. 2 times to different people there. 7.- Finally, food is out. The Octopus was great and the side it comes was also really good. The Shrimp canastas, we ok. Barely any flavor but not bad. Steamed red snapper looked good but was bland. Still had too many scales which to me its a sign of rushing to serve this. I dont know why as it took so long to get the food. 8.- decided to ask for beer instead and to another person. I was not going to ruin my night. Overall clean and nice location but they need to fix their service and food. I also enjoy the kitchen apps and entrées- the miso eggplant and agedashi tofu are great appetizers. The salmon teriyaki is always perfectly cooked and accompanied by fresh vegetables. As other reviewers have mentioned- the construction of the rolls can suffer at times- for me this usually looks like 1 at most 2 pieces losing their integrity when I pick them up. My friends and I agree that this is Riverdale, not A sushi hotspot desitation and we would rather sacrifice a point on the physical construction /proper sushi technique than go somewhere else that has beautiful perfectly rolled sushi- with less fresh fish or rolls that are more rice than filling. Also- the sushi IS good! I usually go for salmon, tuna and a sweet potato tempura roll The lunch specials (monday-saturday until 3:15 pm) are a really good deal and come with pretty good miso soup and a fresh side salad. I am appreciative that they run a little later in the day as well. Aoyu has always been very reasonable abt modifications- there is no upcharge for brown rice for lunch bento- easy to request veggie instead of pork gyoza, and I really don't like crab- imitation or otherwise- so they always let me sub a cucumber avocado roll instead. The place is smaller, but because of the great weather, we were able to sit outside. Service was okay. It took a while to get our order in and to get water to the table. Then, our appetizer came out and a few mins later, our mains came out, so it felt back to back. Nonetheless, the food was good. In terms of pricing, I thought it was on the higher media price of food in the area, but thought it was delicious nonetheless. I had ordered sushi rice cakes and also got a chicken teriyaki. Other dishes that we had gotten included a garlic shrimp and one of the Dominican rolls, the De Lo Mio Rolls. We all enjoyed our food. Only note that I'll give is that we got the main combination courses for the garlic shrimp and the chicken teriyaki. My dad wanted to sub out the rice for plantains, but ended up not getting the miso soup and we were charged for a whole side of plantains. Oh, and it's BYOB currently (maybe a liquor license is forthcoming; not sure). But I'd be glad if it stayed BYOB. We've now visited 3x (twice dining in and once take out), and everything was outstanding each time. We've tried the ramen (the chicken one and the pork one); both are large and super tasty. We've tried several apps, including the boneless ribs (nom!), wings (also nom!), edamame, and tuna tartare. You can't go wrong with any of these! We've also tried several rolls -- more traditional Japanese ones... but they also have mashup rolls that combine Japanese and Dominican ingredients. We haven't tried the mashup rolls yet yet but plan on it next time. Lastly, we've also tried the Chinese style dishes -- Chicken and Broccoli and Chicken Lo Mein. Both were good. And the egg roll with the Chicken and Broccoli was a nice surprise. The restaurant does A LOT of take out and delivery, so they can get backed up, but that's to be expected.
