The host was so sweet and accommodating! We asked to sit outside and she made sure we got the perfect spot with a great view, which made the whole experience even better. The food came out fresh and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. Such a cute brunch spot with great vibes, I'll definitely be back again soon

Great brunch spot near Mother's Beach (we parked in that lot and walked to the restaurant). I don't like shrimp, but since their sister restaurant is "Killer Shrimp" and they have their own special shrimp rub (similar, I imagine, to Old Bay seasoning), I figured I should try a shrimp dish. I ordered the Shrimp Benedict, a typical benny (English muffin, poached egg, perfect Hollandaise) plus small, easy-to-eat shrimp. I loved it, especially topped with the unusual hot sauce on the table. I chose a hashbrown as my side - a good-sized, well-cooked patty. My boyfriend surprised the server, and likely the kitchen, by ordering the Thanksgiving turkey dinner (in July). It was a hearty platter with nice breast meat, chunky homemade dressing, tangy cranberry sauce, and a sautéed veg medley (carrots, zucchini, summer squash). We also enjoyed strong, properly made mai tais. We sat outside with a lovely view of a nearby marina. We'll be back!

I live very close by in MDR and have been to Killer Shrimp before so really wanted to check out their breakfast restaurant attached on the south side of the building called Killer Café. I will say that the food taste and quality is pretty good although the service was horrible. Inside is very large with a large counter area and booth seating and each booth is very large and could comfortably sit at least six people. There is also a free parking lot attached so parking is really easy. The issue that we had was we arrived at 10:30 for a Saturday brunch. When we walked in the server said have a seat anywhere you like. So we sat in the very first booth, among many other open booths. Many servers passed by us and as well as other employees but no one came to take our drink or food order or even check in with us for over 25 minutes. Finally, the older woman working there came over and said there was a mixup in how they are assigning tables and tried to explain it away, but she didn't even say sorry or offer any consolidation or even make the issue right. One of the other servers overheard this and came over and took our order after waiting about 30 minutes. After that they expedited the order but everything took much longer than it should have. Also, pricing is more expensive here because you are paying for proximity to the water. However, the food quality is not to par with what they charge. I started off with a slice of the Cinnamon Roll Cake and it felt much more like a piece of cake versus a traditional cinnamon roll. It was pretty dense so I would not recommend or order it again. For my breakfast I chose the Killer Shrimp Benedict, which I enjoyed for the most part although my eggs were a bit overcooked and the few pieces of shrimp just really did not fill me up. Overall, I would give this place another try to see if the service was a one time issue given how close it is to where I live. I will say that it is not my favorite breakfast restaurant in the area, but I am going to give it a one more try in the future to see if I just got unlucky during my visit.

It was 17 dollars for basic af 2 scrambled eggs. Very overpriced for breakfast. I do not recommend.

Killer Cafe/shrimp is right in the heart of the Marina, great views, open clean floor plan, attentive staff. I'm not a seafood guy so we went to the cafe for brunch. This was the go to breakfast place for my friend group in the "BC" (Before Covid) but I wasn't very impressed with the food. For $20 the Chicken and waffles were expensive for the quality. Chicken was small, stringy, and kinda soggy. Waffle was disappointing as well. Shrimp and grits was not up to par with a place that has "shrimp" in the name. The shrimp were rubbery, and it wasn't the normal killer shrimp seasoning, Grits were tasteless and the broth broke & separated. This $20 meal just was sad and sat unfinished. Mimosas apparently were on point though. Everyone in our group got one. Always topped off and glasses stayed filled with a splash of OJ for color. Eaten here a couple of times now I live in area. Dont know if I'll be back.

Food was amazing! Service was good but they needed more waiters. The waiter was handling all of the people outside busy morning. But he was great!Ambiance was great! Ocean and boats . My father in law from out of town and he loved it!

Had a great breakfast on the Marina. Food was good and the staff were pleasant. The owner stopped by and visited with us. Just a pleasant welcome to a new place

Everything comes together at Killer Cafe in Marina Del Rey. Location on the water with quality indoor and outdoor seating options. Service, with attention to detail- our water glass was always full. Home fries are well seasoned and delish. Salmon Benedict with perfectly cooked eggs, yummy hollandaise sauce, smoked salmon, and a thin slice of melted soft mozzarella was off the charts amazing. After breakfast walk along the Marina bike path was the perfect dessert.

Beware that the online price notes as $15 for bottomless Mamosia, but it is really $18 as of today 1/18/26!!! See attached online pic. I asked for the Manager and the guy said he was the Manager and would NOT honor the online price. So beware!!!

Huge plate comes with three eggs, black beans, fried tortillas, with a dollop each of sour cream and guacamole. The tomato-based salsa is well-seasoned and just spicy enough. The carne asada was cooked medium/medium rare and moist. Very satisfying. I was also happy that our server gave me the option on how I wanted my eggs. I felt scrambled was the call today, and was happy with my choice. Did not partake in coffee (shocker!) because I was already fully caffeinated. The ice-water was fresh and cold. Parking was out front - tons of metered parking, and probably some opportunities around the corner. I'm a fan.

This was recommended to me by someone who is local to the diner and it is the kind of spot that you go to when you want to be treated like family or like neighbors and eat good food. To be honest, I don't know how long it has been here. It has the feel of diners that have been around for a while but is cleaner and brighter. They have tons of seating inside and outside. Our server was amazing and told us that he started working there as a part-time job decades ago, but he loved it and stayed because he loved the people that come through here. And because he loves his job that also comes through in the service and food. I ordered huevos rancheros and a black coffee. I could seriously sit there and drink the coffee all day. It is so smooth and it does the job of waking me up! I just love the mug that they serve it in with the thick ceramic walls. The rancheros were delicious and exactly as I hoped and the perfect amount that I did not feel overly heavy. I promise I will go back just so I can make sure to take food pictures next time. I'm an Americana fan, so I was excited to learn that Route 66 turns 100 this year. That's when I…read morediscovered that the historic western end of Route 66 is right here in my neck of the woods--Mel's Diner in Santa Monica. I finally visited earlier this week with one of my nieces, who was in town from Kauai. For a Monday evening, I was pleasantly surprised to see the restaurant had a healthy crowd. AMBIANCE This isn't a cozy, homey diner. The concrete floors and walls give it more of an industrial feel. That said, each table has its own jukebox, which instantly gives the place that classic American diner atmosphere. SERVICE Our server reminded me of the old-school diner waitresses from movies set in the 1950s and 1960s--efficient, brisk, and focused on getting the job done. I was curious whether that image reflected reality or was simply a Hollywood stereotype, so I looked it up afterward. It turns out that traditional diner service really was known for being fast, efficient, and no-nonsense: seating customers quickly, taking orders, serving hot food promptly, keeping coffee cups full, collecting payment, and moving on to the next table. Our server was certainly speedy, but he was also more accommodating than those classic diner stereotypes. He pointed out to my niece that ordering fries with her sandwich might be too much since we were already ordered a type of fries as an appetizer. He also patiently answered my questions about the Slow-Braised Short Rib Dinner, which I had my eye on. At the end of our meal, my niece mentioned something about her own experience as a restaurant server. By then, though, he was clearly ready to move on to his next table. Fair enough-- it made the experience feel even more like an old-school diner. Haha! DRINKS One pleasant surprise: they serve Spiked Milkshakes. My niece was thrilled! As for me, I ordered a glass of Chardonnay, and -- it easily held its own against glasses I've paid considerably more at upscale restaurants. APPETIZER Bacon Ranch Cheese Fries -- Need I say more? MAIN COURSES Reuben Sandwich (with colesalw instead of fries, thanks to our server's suggestion). My niece loved it. Slow-Braised Short Rib Dinner -- Absolutely delicious! The meat was incredibly tender. I ordered the demi glace (sauce) on the side because I wasn't familiar with it. I asked our server whether it was sweet, and he said kind of. So I decided to try it separately and requested it on the side. It turned out to be rich, savory, and the perfect complement to the short rib. I'm glad I ordered it that way. I highly recommend the Slow-Braised Short Rib Dinner. DESSERT We skipped dessert because my nieces' spiked milkshake was practically dessert on its own. PARKING The restaurant has its own parking lot immediately next door. I got lucky and found an open space as soon as I drove in--just a few steps from the entrance. It reminded me of those movie scenes where the main character somehow always finds the perfect parking spot right in front of where they're going. BOTTOM LINE Overall, we had a very enjoyable dinner. If you're looking for a classic American diner experience -- especially if you're a Route 66 enthusiast -- Mel's Diner is definitely worth a visit.
