Fat Sal & Philly cheesesteak were probably the best subs we've had in a while. We arrived perfect timing the restaurant was empty while we enjoyed our meal. An the team was very friendly.

This place definitely lives up to its name. My fiancé and I were vacationing in Los Angeles recently and we heard about this place through the show Triple D. So we went and it was amazing. The food was so delicious and filling that we both could only eat half of our sandwiches. And I decided to have a shake as well take home one of their fat cookies. The service was great because the girl was super nice. The ambiance was pretty good considering it was nighttime when we went. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants an awesome sandwich in L.A. Two thumbs up

Walking south past Venice beach and was feeling for some smash burger. Service here was better than the typical fast food restaurant. Double smash with fries - Fries were only okay, would wish it was more crispy! The smash was some oily beef with crispy edges well seasoned with some good sauce. Defintely had better smash burgers, but better than the larger chains like 5 guys or shake shack. Nice to try.

As my better half had a hair appointment close by and it was Superbowl Sunday (and no, we're no US Football fans), we thought of making it a West L.A. day and walk over to this well-rated hangout.... and we actually Waymo'd ourselves over which was an interesting experience. Our server had some good suggestions, and we went with the Fat Cug sandwich, bacon cheeseburger fries and a vegan shake. I'll start with the fact that these orders are quite generous... we're not huge eaters and could have been happy enough to either share the sandwich or the salad. Nice thing is that the salad is already in a plastic container, so easy to take home with you. The shake was OK, definitely had flavor but so does a peanut butter milkshake from for example Fice Guys. Sandwich OK as well, for the ones that do not mind having fries packed in, which will make it harder to reheat if you'd decide to eat half and take the other half home with you. As mentioned, the salad is probably the best bet as it mixes in some greens with the carbs. All in all, nice but, unfortunately for us Californians, cost of doing business here is atrocious and I would not expect to pay over 50 Bucks for the 3 items.... we got spoiled in the southern states and on the east coast with their large meals for less.

Another great meal from Fat Sals. This time I tried the Albacore Tuna Wrap and it was delicious. They really packed the tortilla with tons of Tuna. Their portions are always Huge and basically two meals for me. Not sure what I like better the Chicken Caesar wrap or the Albacore Tuna wrap as both are delicious. I will definitely be ordering this again.

Just flew into LAX from SFO, and the reviews and pictures of the food doesn't do this place justice! Andrew was awesome he walked us through on the menu and did a great job of temping us on the food AND the shakes! Which look freaking decadent, my kid Dean is the beneficiary of a delicious concoction! I definitely found my LA burger/sandwich spot!!

I don't remember the name but this is an open faced view of a large sand which; it was delicious

This place from entrance to exit is so cool and the food is definitely signature only to Fat Sals! We've been here quite a few times before and this Sunday we walked over and I forget the names of sandwiches we ordered (I know, lame sorry) but here's a picture of what my boyfriend got along with his cheesy fries that he devoured with the sauce that comes with it before I could take a pic. Also worth mentioning the staff here are younger, high school or college but always extremely respectful, AWARE, conscious of everything going on and on point with cleaning tables after people leave and the surrounding restaurant area. Always smiles and good energy from the staff here. 10/10 recommend and if you're into merch they have the hands down coolest merch I've ever seen a food establishment have haha! Really cool renditions of punk bands and all kind of cool stuff. Thanks guys! This was Sunday 11/16 around noon or 1pm. And they are dog friendly :)

Fat Sal's sandwiches are FAT (in the best way possible)! This was the perfect food for the drunk munchies with their hefty sandwiches that are packed with flavor and well worth the price! I got the Fat Texas (5/5!!!) and it was filled with bbq pastrami brisket, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, crispy bacon, grilled onions, fries, melted cheddar and mozzarella cheese topped with honey bbq and mayo on a garlic sub. Every bite had the perfect amount of meat, carbs, and cheesy goodness! It was so flavorful and I could only finish half. I also got the bacon cheeseburger fries (4/5) and it was huge portions for the cost! I love the fresh shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and onion on it that cut out the heaviness of the hamburger chunks, fries, and the melted cheddar and mozzarella cheese. Perfect meal to end the night!

I loved: Fat Texas I liked: Fat Sal I haven't stumbled upon a Fat Sal's since college but this place is just as #goodeats as I remember each sandwich is just stuffed with everything you wish you had in a sandwich when you're young. Mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, bacon, eggs, brisket, fries, and pastrami? Insane combo! The service was pretty quick and quick to take things off if you ask. The most impressive thing here is the actual decor of the place. I'm used to the original location by UCLA. This place is so much nicer and cleaner as well

Love their burgers. They have a decent variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads and wraps. Very reasonably priced. Usually go to Hollywood location but it recently burned so venturing to Venice was a good option. Nice friendly staff too

If you are ravenous from a day at the beach definitely hit up Fat Sal's for a carby, cheesy sandwich. They are open late but only a couple other people were dining in around 6 on a Saturday night - I'm sure it is busier during the summer! I ordered the Fat Cug (FYI: it is pronounced queue-g and not kug, don't embarrass yourself like I did) with chicken, mozzarella sticks, and parm truffle fries. The cashier accidentally gave me an order of fries but let me keep them even though I tried to correct him! The sandwich was perfection - loved the garlic bread, and vodka sauce is always a winner in my book! I think it was pretty pricey ($20 for a sandwich) but I'm pretty sure that's par for the course in Venice. You will definitely leave satisfied!

Food is always good. Fresh ingredients. Good staff. Cashier Daniela gave great customer service. The area is well maintained.

I have lived and worked in the area since 2020, and I have driven by Great Western Steak and Hoagie…read moremany, many times. Every time I pass it, I say, "Make a U-turn and head back!" But something always kept me at bay, and I think it was the pizza sauce. Yes, you can ask for no pizza sauce, but maybe that's the magic that keeps folks coming back? Who knows? For transparency, I ordered my first cheesesteak from them online, not in person. For me, a cheesesteak needs three things: cheese, chopped beef, and grilled onions -- and maybe a squirt of mayo. Don't come down on me, but that's how I like 'em. The sandwich had good weight in my hand, although it was a little smaller compared to some others I have had. It smelled great, but honestly, it was just OK. Nothing really stood out. The cheese disappeared into the meat and bread, and the steak could have used a little more seasoning. I ate half and decided to put the rest aside for later. Why? Because my other favorite thing to eat is hot dogs -- and I ordered one of those too! So let's talk about what comes to mind when you hear "hot dogs." You picture a plump hot dog in a bun with mustard, relish, maybe some onions, all served on a steamed bun -- maybe with sesame or poppy seeds if you're lucky. Nope. This hot dog was served in the same type of roll as the cheesesteak, with two hot dogs split in half, trying to look like they were cooked on the flattop. I think they may have just been boiled. Then, on top of that, you get lettuce, tomatoes, and maybe a squirt of mustard. I thought, "OK, this is different. It still has hot dogs in it!" So I removed the lettuce and tomatoes and gave it another try. Unfortunately, the flavor just wasn't there for me. I didn't check if they were labeled as ALL-BEEF hot dogs or if they were simply "hot dogs," which could be a blend of beef, turkey, pork, and chicken. I pulled one of the dogs out and took a bite -- and I just couldn't finish it. Sorry guys, but this one was a pass for me. I went back to the other half of my cheesesteak and happily finished it off. Would I go back? I'm not sure. Maybe I'll try it again with the pizza sauce? Many other reviewers love their sandwiches, so maybe I just caught them on an off day. We'll see. If I do go back, I'll come back and let everyone know how it went. Happy eating, everyone! What have you eaten today?

I'm going to be the 10th dentist here and lead with the fact that I think the cheesesteak is…read moreincredibly overrated. I can confidently say I'll never order it again. Now, let me explain. We came to Matū for the Dinner for Two, and everything we were served was impeccable. The seasoning was spot on, the salt level was perfect, and every cut of meat was cooked beautifully. I'm a big fan of my steak on the rarer side, and Matū absolutely delivered. The braised beef cheek was probably the highlight of the night for me. It was unbelievably tender, rich, and one of the most memorable bites of the meal. After finishing the Dinner for Two, which really showcased the quality of the meat, we decided to split a cheesesteak since "that's what they're known for." When it arrived, it looked incredible. Unfortunately, that's where the excitement ended for me. The meat tasted oddly oily. I'm not sure if it was the cut, the preparation, or even the cheese, but it came across as heavy and greasy compared to the beautifully simple, clean flavors of the steak dinner. It was also underseasoned, and I found myself tasting the sesame seeds on the bread more than the filling itself. The chips were fresh and crunchy at first, but they lost their texture surprisingly quickly, so eat those immediately. Overall, I absolutely loved the steaks, sides, and cocktails, and I'll happily be back for those. But as for the cheesesteak? Once was more than enough.

Matu is a dream for meat lovers, with a menu centred entirely around Australian wagyu. Nothing…read moreshowcases that commitment better than the Matu dinner ($87 per person; minimum 2 persons), a multi-course meal that highlights different cuts of the cow in every single dish. Things begin with a 24-hour bone broth shooter, looking like a glass of gravy but tasting like concentrated umami. Rich, warm, and deeply comforting, it's remarkable how delicious it is despite containing only broth. The steak tartare follows with freshly chopped beef, egg yolk, and what the menu describes as a "Japanese accent," possibly togarashi. Whatever the seasoning blend is, it works beautifully. The tartare is incredibly flavourful despite its minimalist presentation. Thin, lightly toasted crostini accompany it without overpowering the beef, though I did ask for extra slices just to finish every bite. The eight-hour braised beef cheek was one of my favourite courses. So tender and moist that you could practically eat it with a spoon, the richness is balanced by a silky celeriac purée that ties everything together beautifully. It's the kind of dish that immediately makes you want another serving. Even their '47' salad leans heavily into the restaurant's beef-first philosophy, featuring more steak than greens. The 3-ounce centre-cut filet was impressively tender for such a lean cut, and although it arrived rarer than I'd typically order, it worked perfectly. At Matu, diners aren't asked how they'd like their steak cooked. The kitchen prepares it to the chef's specifications, trusting the quality of the beef and their technique. As for the romaine leaves underneath, they're coated in a signature dressing that tastes remarkably similar to Caesar, despite being made without dairy or eggs, then finished with a generous showering of Parmigiano. After all that beef, you'd think sharing a 12-ounce ribeye would feel excessive. Somehow, it didn't. The steak is prepared simply, allowing the quality of the wagyu to speak for itself, with crispy grilled broccolini providing a garlicky contrast alongside it. A small dish of salt is presented at the beginning of the meal, though Matu intentionally keeps the seasoning restrained. Personally, I appreciated the lighter touch and never felt the need to add more. Dessert arrives in the form of Scott's flourless chocolate cake ($12), dense and rich without being overly sweet beyond a dusting of powdered sugar. After an entire menu devoted to beef, I almost found myself jokingly wondering whether wagyu somehow made its way into dessert too.

I did, and this one absolutely was telling the truth! I was only in the mood for a half sandwich, and for about $9 it was an easy choice. The first thing I noticed was how packed it was with thinly sliced steak, grilled onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and lots of melted provolone cheese. Everything came off the grill hot, steaming and fresh, and every bite was loaded. One thing I thought was interesting was they asked if I wanted lettuce and tomatoes on it. That's not something you normally hear when ordering a Philly cheesesteak, but I decided to try the tomatoes. It actually gave the sandwich a different texture and a little freshness that worked better than I expected. The bread was soft and held everything together, and there was plenty of melted cheese mixed throughout the steak, and exactly how a loaded cheesesteak should be. This is one of those sandwiches where you keep taking bites because every bite is just as good as the last. If the half was this filling, I can only imagine how big the full size is. I'll definitely be back for another one. If you're in the area and looking for a really good cheesesteak, this one is worth checking out.

I got the cheesesteak with cheese, onions, and mayo. Bread and cheese were good but the onions were barely cooked and the steak is 100% a cheap cut. It's extremely bland, almost no flavor. I had to apply a good amount of salt on this sub. That said, I ate the whole thing and was satisfied but I think Victor Jrs in Culver makes a far superior cheesesteak. I do like this place but you pretty much get what you see. I'll be back to try the chicken teriyaki sub.
