My wife did not eat all of her truffle burger, which was delicious, and a person. not our server, asked if hr could box it up and we said yes. it was not brought back to our table, and when I asked for it when we were leaving, he looked as if he did not know what I was talking about and mumbled something about he thought we were through with it. Very expensive burger, and I was very disappointed with this circumstance. Everything else was very nice and we will return. However, next time I will ask for a box and do it myself. if not for this situation, I would have given it five stars. read more

We decided to come here on a weekday around 11:30AM due to the good reviews online. Big mistake. We wanted a straight forward yummy brunch but what we got was far from that. First off, they were not very busy yet it took about 35 minutes for someone to come by to take our order which was the first red flag. Second, not sure if they are a french cafe or what because the food is definitely not french nor is it american. The decor was more greek which was interesting. The substitutions for their brunch menu items was zero which was a second red flag (they didn't have any chicken substitutions for breakfast meats). It then took another 45-50 minutes for us to actually get our food. When we did get our food, the guy said the toast is coming out momentarily but it took 15 extra minutes. When the toast finally came out, I will let the picture speak for itself. That was our final straw. Let's talk about the food. Honestly, one of the most disgusting brunch food we've ever had. The only reason I am rating this one star is because the pancake wasn't half bad. I ordered the Breakfast Special with fried eggs and turkey sausage only because they did not offer any pancakes as a side. Y'all the turkey sausage was NOT EDIBLE. It was the grossest thing we've ever tasted. It was as if it had freezer burn and they took it straight out the freezer and put it in the microwave for 15 seconds. The eggs were extremely bland and the potatoes gratin were not potatoes gratin. I've gone to France and eaten authentic potatoes gratin and yeah... these were far from it. The fruit bowl was just apples and 1 slice of an orange that we halved. The service was extremely slow and underwhelming. Not sure how the lunch menu is but do not go here for brunch. We've been coming here for years, both on overland and now on Venice boulevard. Our hosts Robbie and Ryan always greet us as friends and are very welcoming. How was server, Julio, took great care of us today. I forgot to take pics, apologies as what we had looks spectacular. We both ordered Le Croque Madame, his with salad and potatoes gratin, mine with a double order of potatoes gratin, both of ours topped with and over easy egg. I got the leeks and goat cheese quiche which had plenty of flavor. Asked for the salad and potatoes and the waiter misunderstood me and thought I wanted a double salad. That was alright. OMG! The "Shrimp Pomodoro Pasta" is to almost die for! Soooooo delicious and a nice size portion! I highly recommend it! At first when you walk up it looks like a teeny tiny place and then you find out there is a whole hidden covered patio, which is where I sat. Service was great and I was checked on by two people to make sure that I was happy, which I was. I really like the atmosphere in the patio which is airy, roomy, colorful, and comfortable. I think the price of the food was commensurate to how good it tasted so I didn't mind paying $24 for my dish. I wanted to try desert but I had eaten too much pasta. LOL. Sunday morning breakfast at Cafe Laurent! This is such a cute French themed cafe, with a great menu, great ambiance and excellent service. I had the L'Atlantique omelette with the potatoes gratin and fresh fruit. It was very good and an excellent size portion, I couldn't even finish it all. Nothing but good things to say about this casual, quaint cafe. Just remember that the Mar Vista Farmer's Market is nearby on Sundays, which can make parking a tad bit more challenging. Will I be back? Definitely. Would like to try the lunch menu. Bonus: laid back, easy cafe eatery. Bogus: they did have a few huge dogs out on the covered patio. While I am a dog lover and generally don't mind, my friend is not. It's ok to leave the fur babies at home sometimes. read more

I've been meaning to stop by for brunch, but saw their windows taped up and thought they closed. Was happy to find out they actually just relocated from Culver City to Mar Vista. Cafe Laurant can now be found along Venice Boulevard, close to the library and post office. Most of the nearby streets are paid parking, but there are free spots if you drive into the residential areas. The meter was 25 cents every 15 minutes so honestly I didn't think it was a big deal paying a dollar for a spot out front. They have seats outside by the sidewalk, inside, at the bar, and in this sort of enclosed patio area. Complimentary bread was served before the meal. On the breakfast menu you'll find quiches, crepes, omelettes, pastries, and other typical dishes. You can even build your own crepe or omelet by choosing from their ingredients list. Lunch has a hodgepodge of different things like salmon, pasta, Croque Monsieur, Croque Madame, desserts, and more. Burgers and sandwiches come with your preferred bun (sesame or brioche). They serve Lavazza coffee. Brunch was enjoyable. The Pain Perdu (French toast with brioche, butter croissants, raisins, cranberries, Canadian maple syrup) had interesting textures and flavors. The La Carnaval Crêpe came with fresh strawberries and bananas. My Soleil pancakes were kind of bland but the Nutella spread made it palatable. I haven't been to this space since Atmosphere Café had closed down, so it was nice to see how Café Laurent redecorated the space. The quiche aux olives was a generous portion and I enjoyed every bite. The side salad and potato gratin were both delicious as well. The only critique is that the potato gratin had a tad too much cheese for my taste. It was more cheese than potato. There is NO shortage of cheese on the menu, so rest assured you are taken care of, cheese lovers! Great brunch spot that has since moved from the last time I ate here. This spot used to be in Culver City next to a high school, and a small restaurant that had a nice outdoor patio. I'm sure they moved into a location that is just as nice, but I can focus on the service and food. The staff was very friendly, and most importantly, efficient and fast, especially with how many people were in this restaurant having brunch. The brunch food was amazing. The breakfast sandwiches, the different sides, the amount of choices they had for our two-year-old. It was a very good experience with fresh and tasty ingredients. So sad!!!! This is the last day for this fabulous, iconic Culver City eatery. I have been coming here since they opened in the 90s. The landlord wouldnt renew the lease so they're out. For loyal and new customers, they will be opening Sept 29 at 12034 Venice Blvd LA 90066 (Mar Vista, between Bundy and Inglewood). They will be at that location for 18 months, after which they are moving to their new, permanent place on Centinela near La Tijera (Westchester), in an upcoming neighborhood. The food was hot and delicious! Hot chocolate had light and tasty whipped cream that tastes freshly made. Portions were ample size and meals ranged $15-$25. This is a new location for them, but it's sweet. A great date spot. It was a cool morning and the room with the larger tables was chilly. We were seated at the outdoor patio area, and right away, we had two waiters taking our drink and food order! I've never had tqo waiters before. Since we were prepared with our order, as soon as we placed it, within 5 minutes we received our food. They were so quick, and they constantly filled our waters and made sure we were always attended to. Now the food. I ordered the grilled shrimp salad and arugula salad. The portion size was big with an ample amount of perfectly grilled shrimp. The simple olive oil vinegrette was an excellent dressing to showcase the fresh ingredients. What a wonderful find. That Lady and I were on our way back to our pied a terre when, that Lady found a recommendation online for lunch , right on our way. It is on Venice Blvd. with street parking. It has the feel of a French bistro from the moment you walk in. There is boulevard seating for people watching, interior seating and a cozy romantic patio on the side. The service is great. Food is definitely French inspired with salads, sandwiches, omelets, pastries and desserts. That Lady opted for a shrimp salad and my selection was delicious Niçoise salad with an espresso soda. The finale was a shared chocolate tart and we sneak home croissants. Definitely old Left Bank ambiance. All that is missing is some French accordion music in the background. We went around 12:30pm on a Sunday and we waited about 15-20 mins then got sat and ordered food and got food around 1:30pm (took about 30-40mins to get food) I think as a diner, it shouldn't make customers wait for brunch for an hour because it's more for quick dine and leave atmosphere. As for food, Le New Yorker was really good as a baguette sandwich but as for Le Croque-Madame was way too greasy and cheesy. My sister and I decided to have an early breakfast here. The restaurant itself has a nice outside seating area as well as a dining area and a side patio, which to us was the best part. We were warmly greeted by the staff upon entering, but that's about as far as the good service goes. When the waiter took our order, he appeared to be unhappy to be doing so. I ordered the eggs Benedict, which comes with two sides, I asked for two sides of potatoes. I was immediately asked if I wasn't sure I needed a salad instead. To which I replied that I wanted my potatoes. Determine not to let that ruin our breakfast together my sister ordered her breakfast, and I proceeded to order a to go breakfast Paris Sandwich for my husband. Which he enjoyed even after my hour drive home with it. Once we received our food, my eggs Benedict were very good. I asked to have them with avocado versus ham. And my potatoes were absolutely delicious. My sister's breakfast that came with eggs, bacon, sausage and a pancake, was OK.. The pancake itself had no flavor whatsoever and tasted extremely undercooked. She ended up adding a croissant to her order to have with her eggs since she couldn't eat the pancakes. I know I'm not a small person, but to have a waiter say something like that to me was just uncalled for and down right hurtful and rude. But maybe he wasn't have a good day and took it out on me? Omg.. whyyyy have I not stopped in before? France would envy the beautiful French pastries. My brothers had a tuna sandwich pilled high in a high flaky croissant. The other had a chicken salad stuffed croissant , mine was like a fluffy omelette croissant . The came with fresh field green salads and / or fresh sweet fruit. What an un expected treat. Wonderful, creative, and delicious. I've driven by for years and will drive by no longer. Such an unassuming place from the outside, but a mighty force of awesomeness awaits inside. At least four stars. Further research will be eagerly pursued. With brunch on the weekends and breakfast served all day during the week, one has plenty of opportunity to explore their menus. Crepes? Omelets? Quiches? Or many other options. In my party, for instance, one of us ordered and loved the L'Espagnole Omelet (Potatoes, caramelized onions, Spanish paprika, pork chorizo, and mozzarella). One of us had and loved Soleil Pancakes (Three butter pancakes with a choice of organic strawberries, bananas, Nutella, dark chocolate chips, lemon-sugar, raspberries or blueberries. Served with seasonal fruits and whipped cream). A word on their poached eggs: Perfect. The shape was rounded, almost voluptuous. Expertly cooked, and all you enjoy is the egg. I have lamented that some other places rely on a heavy-handed vinegar flavor. Not here. Praise Laurent. A side of eggs is a great complement if you order the pancakes, for example. Or, with what I ordered: the French Toast. This is not your typical French Toast, and that's a good thing. While I love the more traditional puffy doughy triangles and squares at some other restaurants, it's a different world here. Pain Perdu (French toast) is their own French toast recipe, made of brioche, butter homemade croissants, raisins, cranberries, and a touch of Canadian maple syrup. Mon Dieu! Served with fresh fruit and whipped cream. I submit that though there are many worthy items on the menu, this was exactly what I wanted --- without even knowing it. Pain Perdu arrives as a large disk of eggy, imperceptively bready Heaven with the aforementioned dried fruit. This was so satisfying. And the poached eggs merely sent it higher. Strong recommendation. I enjoyed the coffee, too. Service was smart and helpful. Clearly, details matter at Cafe Laurent.
