My father and I went out to dinner and decided to stop by Kilwins to get some ice cream. I have seen Kilwins all over Indy and never stopped by, so was excited about trying the ice cream for the first time. I decided upon the toasted coconut ice cream and my father picked fudge brownie for his flavor of ice cream. The toasted coconut was absolutely incredible when I first tasted it. It was like a party in my mouth with the coconut flavor instantly touching my tongue. I enjoyed every bite of it and my father loves his fudge brownie ice cream. The ice cream is definitely high quality and high value, so you will definitely get your money's worth. The staff were very friendly and alllowed us to sample other flavors as well. I was on a local foodie page and a recent transplant was asking where they could find an ice cream flavor called Blue Moon. I'd never heard of such a thing and of course was intrigued. Someone mentioned Kilwins had it so I had to go try it. I wish the flavor could be described, but can't really put my finger on it. I love the ice cream and all of the chocolates and other sweets they have look amazing as well.

Kilwins is right on the middle of a 2.5 mile walking loop around our place, so it felt like the kids could use a little treat midway into it. They had a great collection of chocolate and fudge varieties and as a dark chocolate loving family, it helped that almost each variety had a dark counterpart. My kids loves the dark chocolate pretzel and the Rice Krispie covered bar. We picked some dark chocolate caramel pecans for us and they paired well with our bourbon later in the evening! The chocolates are delicious, they have a sanitizing spray counter at entry, everyone is masked. The customer service is truly nonexistent, none of us were acknowledged and it took a few tries for us to get the lady to answer a question. The second person who came to check us out was actually pretty alright but made no offers to help with recommendations or such. Amazing desserts and excellent customer service. After passing this location numerous times, I finally was able to stop in. I was greeted upon arrival by a smiling, patient, and helpful employee. I wish I knew her name since she waited patiently as I looked at all of the delicious chocolates, fudge, caramel apples, and ice cream flavors that they sell. She also answered the questions I had about some of the items. After much contemplation, I decided on a few dark chocolate and coconut covered Oreos, double chocolate fudge, and some ice cream. Their chocolate is definitely good but I especially liked the coconut ice cream and lemon sorbet. The flavors were amazing and the consistency was perfect. If you plan to eat it in the car or later, I recommend getting the ice cream in a waffle bowl since their waffle cones are delicious. Their prices are fairly reasonable, parking is easy, and they package the items nicely. Treats from Kilwins would certainly make a great gift for yourself or someone else. Alright! So, I think I've found my favorite ice cream shop! The ice cream here is so creamy and ever so delicious! I got the mint chocolate chip (which had big chunks of chocolate just the way I like it) and the s'mores ice cream. Half a scoop of each and it was fabulous. We also couldn't resist buying some yummy chocolate cordials and a marshmallow dipped in caramel and salted dark chocolate. Yum! The girls working here are super friendly and they'll let you sample some fudge and ice cream. Also fun to watch them make the fudge while eating your ice cream at the counter. My oh my, how amazing my experience was. First things first I was struggling to get inside. Thank goodness a nice young employee was there to save the day! Oh, how kind he was I sometimes struggle to move around and he was very helpful to me. I asked his name he said Hayden. Well, how kind Hayden. My order kept it simple just plain Jane vanilla. We stopped in Kilwin's after dinner nearby. This was my first time here, I've only been to their location in Charleston SC. We were not so welcomed by a not so friendly and rather unsociable staff. The ice cream they offer however is very delicious. I wish I was able to leave more stars but the staff here prevents me from doing so. I had old fashioned vanilla in a homemade waffle cone. This was to die for! They have outdoor seating on the sidewalk which is where we chose to enjoy our treats. No one in my group had one single complaint of their sweet treats, the only negative to our visit was the very young Kilwin's staff who possibly just needs a little training on proper customer service skills and public interaction. read more

Cary Mud was my consistent go-to for many years, but after sampling their sea salt caramel I've been hooked ever since. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating. With a severe nut allergy in the family, they take the utmost precautions to deliver their scoops from a fresh unopened ice cream container (no matter the flavor) and sanitize their scoopers to avoid any chance of possible cross-contamination. Sometimes you can watch them making their creations in the store which is truly a pleasure to see. Many options and a quick trip in and out as long as you don't stop for hand scooped ice cream from the variety they offer. Do not hold your breath waiting for a sample of anything, evidently that isn't a thing on Wednesday nights less than an hour before closing. Actually customer service was nonexistent. Few things get a 5 star rating from this guy, but Kilwins always does. Kilwins is a specialty chocolate shop with roots in northern Michigan. Don and Kathy Kilwin started the company some time ago and later sold it. New ownership later grew the company with franchises in many states, sprawling from Michigan to Florida and out west to Colorado. Specialty ice cream and chocolates and all so delicious. Try them all! Their specialty is Mackinac Island (Michigan) fudge, which are offered in several flavors. (Tip: Fudge is not chocolate so don't eat large quantity of fudge in a single sitting or you'll be sitting elsewhere with a rumbly in the tummy). Many Kilwin stores create some of their delectable chocolate products in store. You can watch them in action making in-house fudge or other treats. NOTE: Ever want to know what's made in-house and what is shipped in? Just search on products for the Kilwins label. If it lists an address for that local store, then it was likely made there. If the Kilwins label lists a city of "Petoskey, Michigan" then it was likely shipped in - but still delicious. We went to Kilwin's for an afternoon treat and I got a single scoop of the cappuccino chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone. This ice cream was full of coffee flavor and the bits of chocolate were so good, which I guess is to be expected since they are also a really great chocolate place. But what really made this ice cream stand out was the amazing waffle cone. It was perfectly crunchy and was so sturdy that it didn't get soggy towards the bottom like many waffle cones. The selection of ice cream flavors is also really good. While I wouldn't say anything was super crazy, they had a wide variety of fruity flavors, chocolatey flavors, and then some that had a little bit of everything in it. While we only got ice cream during this visit, we saw what a great selection of chocolate covered goodies they have. I definitely eyed the fudge slices super hard and was really tempted. I would definitely consider Kilwin's a great place to come and get gifts for the chocolate lovers in your life or maybe just treat yourself. You deserve it! read more

After tonight's Yelp Cinco de Mayo party at Guacamaya tonight, we walked around the corner to Kilwins Chocolates & Ice Cream and straight into Heaven. Upon my first inhale, I had a big grin on my face. To the left: counters of chocolate, candy, and fudge. To my right, the ice cream counter. We went straight for ice cream. I was too antsy to stand in line for this Heaven so I walked around the line looking at all the ice creams while he stood in line. I was even more excited when I discovered that they had Rocky Road. Cake cone. Rocky Road. No major questioning me about how many scoops I wanted. They just read my mind and gave me two massive scoops. Easy checkout. Boom. We're out into the spring/summer night to enjoy the park benches. Until tonight. I'd never heard of Kilwins. They have many other franchise locations around the country, but none really west of Wisconsin or Arkansas. If you're roaming around the state, you can visit them in Asheville, Black Mountain, Blowing Rock, Cary, Hendersonville, Highlands, Huntersville, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem. I knew I was a goner when I walked into Kilwin's. The aroma of waffle cones and chocolate. It was hopeless. After spending several minutes exploring the available ice cream flavors and the chocolate, I went with the fudge. Sigh. It was a disappointment in that the first bite tasted as though the fudge had been too warm when wrapped in the waxed paper. So I took it to work the next day -- always the place to foist off the leftovers of anything -- and had quite a few thumbs up and requests for where where I got it. So, I decided that perhaps it was me with tainted taste buds considering the rave reviews from coworkers. My next trip was for ice cream. That too, was a disappointment. Not that the ice cream was bad, it wasn't. The ice cream (I tried the cashew toffee) was good, really, but no better than the premium ice cream available at any of the other shops or in the local supermarkets. It was not worth the price. If I'm in the area, I'll stop by Kilwin's, if for nothing more than to inhale the aroma of fresh-made waffle cones but probably will save my money for the Godiva ice cream. read more

This place is tough to find because it's located on a street that's actually WITHIN a parking lot. It was very strange to constantly pass this place, yet the street never seemed to pop up, despite the fact that I was driving between the 2 big streets that sandwiches the intended street. I'm not used to seeing street names inside parking lots, so the GPS totally threw me off! Anyway, once you find this place, you'll discover that there are chocolates and chocolate and MORE chocolates - chocolate everything, everywhere!! However, the reason I came here was not for the chocoalte treats, but rather the ice cream because my aunt had a craving for homemade ice cream. Still, I chose flavors that included chocolate! I had a scoop of Cappuccino Chocolate Chips and a scoop of Kilwins Tracks, both have chocolate, and both taste delicious! There's a big section blocked off for making ice cream and cones, but only one lady seemed to be working. The ice cream has a creamy texture with just the right amount of sweetness. There's a map that shows how far they've expanded -- apparently they have several locations spread out across the country! Love their shirt's motto as well: "Life is uncertain...eat your dessert first." Would've bought one if it wasn't for the front design, where several different types of ice cream flavors are displayed in a variety of colors. I sampled a nice amount of apple pie ice cream with real chunks of baked apple. The fudge brownie ice cream had several pieces of brownie in it. As someone who grew up with local chocolatiers and homemade ice cream parlors, Kilwin's fills a missing part of my sugar loving heart.
