Videri is on the right serving $$$ non-coffee drinks - soft-serve, confections/ chocolates and other trinkets. You can get a sample (smaller than Kisses, maybe 1/3 of it) if you answer the questionnaire about stuff you'll find inside the museum, which is at the back portion of the building. Imagine doing a u-shape walk in a small room with frames on the wall. There wasn't a production when we came, would have been sweet! Kind of didn't feel as welcoming because they all looked plain and somehow serious (maybe tired at noon-ish). Would I recommend for first-timers? Yes, if you are already in the area. I'll definitely be back in Raleigh but 50/50 if I want to bring guests there again. You know that you are in a chocolate store when you walk in. It smells heavenly! We wanted to do the self-guided tour of the chocolate factory. It was a little confusing when we walked in and we didn't know where to go. There was a crowd of people when we walked in but then we realized that they are waiting to buy chocolates or get samples. We figured out where to go for the tour. The "tour" was literally less than 5 minutes unless you scanned the QR codes that were posted on the windows at each station and watched the videos. (I missed the QR codes for Steps 2 & 3.) We came in a Sunday and no one was working in the factory. Maybe it would have been a little more interesting if there was activity going on back there. I'm not the biggest chocolate fan so my main purpose of visiting Videri was to buy souvenirs for my family. Nevertheless, the samples got me. We went up to the counter to sample the chocolate bars and the samples came in the form of chocolate chips. I ended up loving them. I bought the 70% classic dark chocolate as a souvenir and the 55% dark milk vesta for myself because of the slight spicy kick that it had. The whole place smelled amazing because they have the chocolate factory in-house and you can even take a tour of it. I wasn't in the mood for coffee or desserts but they have a small cafe where you can sit down and enjoy a variety of bonbons or soft serve made from their chocolate. We took a self guided tour and they make it easy to follow along. There are QR codes at each station that provide text and videos. The chocolate is truly exceptional tasting. It isn't the most inexpensive option, but if you appreciate chocolate, this knocks the socks of store bought chocolate, even the higher end varieties at a typical food market. Premium chocolate=premium price. The Deets: I had a chance to visit Videri Chocolate Factory before heading over to dine out in downtown Raleigh. I really cannot believe I have not popped into here before now. The Videri in the name comes from the North Carolina state motto "Esse Quam Videri" or "to be rather than to seem" in English. There's kind of an old school flair to the aesthetic that lets it blend into the Warehouse District look well. Parking in that area beyond the paid lot next to it can be a challenge as always. Once inside, there's a lot to take in with the chocolate available as well as coffee shop, ice cream, and Videri merchandising items for sale. Once inside, you can take the self-guided tour of the factory which we did and answering the list of questions given along the way with a promise of a chocolate treat prize at the end when answering all of them. I liked this part of answering the questions to learn more about the process and Videri itself. We did get our prize, pretty tasty bite-size piece of chocolate candy with sprinkles on it. There is a display where their samples are offered in small packs as well a display of what chocolate candies are available for purchase. If it is premium chocolate then expect a premium price. What a fun place! Protip - before you come here, make sure you follow the instructions on the website regarding getting your parking validated. If you don't, they won't. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about their products. I learned quite a bit about cocoa nibs during my chocolate bar tasting experience. As I waited for my order, I felt that the decor is welcoming. I was especially surprised to see a disco ball. It added a little sparkle to the ambience. I chose to try the sand cup and I have to say it didn't disappoint. The sand cup includes vanilla soft serve, toffee, delicious granola and caramel sauce. It seems to be quite popular as there were lines to buy chocolate as well as lines to buy coffee. It's a bit small inside, and it was crowded yesterday.
